  • We recently made brush piles out of PVC pipe and irrigation hose. Today we put them in the lake and viewed with Livescope. Interesting things happened.

    The first part of this is making the brush piles, then dropping them in the lake. What is interesting is seeing what the fish do right after these are put into position. Check it out!!

    Thanks for the video, as a plumber it looked like y’all used orange glue which is for cpvc piping instead of pvc pipe, but also if you will use primer along with glue made for pvc pipe it will actually melt and bond the pipe and fittings together. Hopefully this might be something that you can try.

    fun tip for you -if you get a copper pipe cleaning tool of the right size or take apart a battery cleaning tool you can run the black tubing through the tool and scrap it witch lets algae grow faster!

    Suggestions: Fill those legs 1/2 way with sand. It's not as heavy as cement but is cheaper and quicker. On that bucket brush pile use 2 4' 3/8 rebar set in a cross through the bottom of the bucket to stabilize it.
    The plastic bottle in ingenious by the way.

    THAT'S NOT A CRAPPIE CONDO THAT'S AN "AMUSEMENT PARK"..LOL....I'm not sure if you sanded the PVC..but I have read and heard that the algae and zooplankton can attach to the PVC if it's sanded..just would be a better ECOSYSTEM..THE CIRCLE OF LIFE...Nice video..THUMBS-UP!!!!!!

    • @AsleepAtTheReel

      Thanks. Did not sand it. BUT on that note, I see many docks that have PVC water pipes and they have algae all over them so sanding might make it easier for them to attach but I do not think it is required. Ha Ha it is an amusement park. I plan to find them again soon. I made the mistake of not verifying that I had the way points downloaded for the new graph I put on. I just need to figure out which of the helix 7's I have it on and hook it up when on the lake. I replaced them with Helix 12's and well, the points did not back up like I thought.

    • @AsleepAtTheReel
      @AsleepAtTheReel  Рік тому

      I do not remember the exact depth, but it was in roughly 14 foot of water. With that said, it was in the middle of the lake so I did not have to worry about it being out of water at any point in time. They were about 100 ft from the river channel which is also key as the crappie use that river channel to move during the different seasons. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Wouldn't it have been better to make cuts in the tubing halfway between the white pipe branches on the larger structure after you wove the tubes, so that you would be less likely to have fish wrap your line around them? They could still wrap you around the larger pipe, but I would think it would happen less often this way.

    • @AsleepAtTheReel

    • @AsleepAtTheReel

      I agree, unfortunately I could not do that with that particular tubing. The reason is the hole was a little bigger than that pipe which meant that it automatically turned downward. when you stand away from the camera and talk you sound just like johnny cash.
    I appreciate the scale of your design very much
    i wonder if structure could be made by using dead limbs from the local woods, a drill, a bit of concrete and a roll of bank line to tie it all together through drilled holes in the limbs. Im thinking of a structure made from 100 or so 2" x 4' long branches, alternatingly stacked and fastened into a pyramid/box shape.
    The dead wood might rot faster than fresh cut but I think it would serve its purpose well enough.
    I was also thinking about a few pairs of large, discarded christmas trees wrapped loosely in chicken wire with plastic vines/plants ziptied around the exterior.
    I always intend to resource materials at low or no cost. I can often get by with the lone purchase of screws

    • @AsleepAtTheReel
      @AsleepAtTheReel  3 роки тому

      LOL Thanks on the sounding like Johnny Cash. ha ha. On the structure, yes you can use branches, just need a good weight on it. If you use Christmas trees put a small bottle on the top with the cap installed and it will cause it to float. There are about 40 in one area on my lake. Many people do use a drill bit, drill a hole then wire them together. Rope will rot before the trees do. Thicket tree limbs will last longer. Honestly I do not think you need to wrap anything around it as if it is to tight, the fish cannot get in, so you want to have it branch out like a Christmas tree. I know guys here that use bamboo. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @AsleepAtTheReel
      @AsleepAtTheReel  3 роки тому +2

      No I take the string off. Basically it I am dropping it in 10 ft of water I have twice as much rope. This way I get it to the bottom and with Livescope I am make sure it is in the position I want. Once I do that I simply pull one end of the rope out. For easy use, 20 ft water have a 40-50 ft rope, put it through a handle or something drop it in, once set let go of one end and pull the other. Hope that helps. Good luck on getting your brush out. If you have several different brush piles you are dropping in, I would put them in different water levels so you have a pile to fish for each time of the year.
