I was actually looking for metal detector instructions but once you started talking something told me to sit down, be quiet and listen. im glad I did . thank you for the video.
Another great place to detect is beneath old clotheslines. Yes, there are some of the metals from clothespins, but coins fell from pockets, too. Feel above the door jam over & inside the closet beneath the stairway, or in bedroom closets built after the turn of the century. They would build convenient empty trays above the doors. I actually found a "girley" mag inside one of them in an old house. :) Thank you Mr. Garrett. A delightful tour of this Victorian home.
Wow, an awesome video, sucked me right in. I am always willing to learn the ropes of professional hunting. This was a 10 in rank for detecting videos. Thanks for sharing these secrets with us.
We don't have too many homes like that here on Long Island but I enjoyed that tour. Thanks and you did a great job. you're the type a guy a anyone would love as a neighbor.
I have learned so much watching this video! Things I never would have thought of! I am so excited to get my hands on an old property to detect at! Thank you!!!
Thanks for the history lesson. The home looks very nice for 1882. Good video! I love history, and historic sites are great to search. Preserving history is of great importance to everyone.
Thanks for the great info. Old timers have such great insight into things. I hope you make a few more of these videos because this one is great : " ) ....
Not sure why I really enjoy watching videos of older men and women explaining things than I do any other age hmm. Maybe I just think well this person has decades of experience , teach me show me let me be your student ( in my nerdy voice lol)
Loved this video and the gentleman was so helpful with all those tips. Have a house in our field that's over 100 years old. Although not victorian, the original owners were of the wealthier ones and I will certainly put those tips to use. The lady of the house was known to drink and have fits at times, and had a chicken business and was very stingy with her money. Maybe she buried or his some of it, and forgot where she put it.
note that the square curb method does not apply everywhere. In california, where I live, it's still the go-to curbing used, with new sidewalks etc being build this way quite often.
Beutifull house ,interesting commentary thanks for doing this very interesting , I understand now why nugget noggin likes house hunting all the best ant from Wales UK
When I was 9, I found 6 $20 silver certificates wrapped inside about 12 different types of paper inside a fruit jar placed inside a dutch oven buried under the sawdust beneath a pile of crate lids in the attic of a potato house on a farm my parents bought from my great aunt years after her husband died. Should have never shown them to my mom, never saw them again.
3 + people can't find silver ! I've watched a few Garrett Detectors videos... Some of the guys you have working for you are freaking Idiots. This guy is different, he is a genius and I'd love to talk to him, but will likely never happen. So I'm blessed to watch this informative educational video! Thanks Garrett PS I bought an AT Pro and LOVE It, I find a good deal and would love to make videos with/for you guys, having film making experience and detect experience. I think you would be pleased.
I have watched loads of metal detecting videos now and it looks like a cool hobby so I think I will get me one. I have loads of land around where I live that could be holding treasures. Just the other side of my garden fence lies a Roman Fort. It's a raised area of land thats about 40x40 meters and 2 meters high with a moat round it which you can clearly see on Google Earth. These are the coordinates to the center of it 51degrees56'29.28"North 0degrees14'01.32"West. Just to the north is a 700 year old church with a graveyard. I cant do any detecting on the graveyard but around it will be ok. I just cant wait to see if I can unearth some treasures like the Staffordshire hoard where some guy found Saxon gold worth £3 Million or about $5.5 Million. Can some one tell me what detector I should get as a beginner? I dont want one that is for a beginner but is user friendly. Thanx fellow detectors.
My granddaddy kept his $$ in a tin can under the floorboards of his house. My father told me that this money (paper) would smell really musty after a while and some people would smell the money after he used it to pay for something.
Or a friend, relative, co-worker, etc. may have an old property and would be willing to let one have a go at it. I don't own a Victorian yet (or even a metal detector for that manner), but I keep my options open. The main thing is to have a positive attitude. Happy hunting!
Why are stones comming up through the soil on a farmers field? (And it's a FACT that they do). I've been told that ice forms under the stone forcing it up - millimeters at a time. Now, IF that is true could the same happen to artifacts?
I wonder who would vacate an old home like this one? Doesn't make much sense to me? Excuse me may I look for treasures in your old home?? Not likely....
Thats the thing though.I dont really care for 1800 coins. i toss them in the hedge lol. all the saxon/roman i like to dig are deep down. the only thing that brings it up is the farmers plough. ive never heard of coins working there way back up through the soil. only sinking down.

Super information.. Thank you for the information. SUPER Interesting.
The info about the tree is amazing!
Tip, look for the area where the "old out house was located" they would lose
coins from their pockets while their pants were down.
Interesting !-Thank you Sir .

The parlor was usually the fanciest room in the house often only used for special occasions.
thank you

LOL!
I have the Flextrex 37,000,000,000 VIP Whipsnake metal detector, it has an Old house setting on it.
My granddaddy kept his $$ in a tin can under the floorboards of his house. My father told me that this money (paper) would smell really musty after a while and some people would smell the money after he used it to pay for something.
good info.good vid
they rise and fall with the seasons....thats why out in the middle of the woods you can find a coin from the 1800s just an inch down.........
The only roud to the town next to ours went through our property so I hope to make some cool finds.
Ive never seen it happen here in the uk.
Mind you we dont get that much serious frost.
Only frikken rain lol.
Or a friend, relative, co-worker, etc. may have an old property and would be willing to let one have a go at it. I don't own a Victorian yet (or even a metal detector for that manner), but I keep my options open. The main thing is to have a positive attitude. Happy hunting!
is that house in dublin texas? it looks familiar.
artifacts working there way back up through the soil??!
never heard that before.
Great vid - now all I have to do is find someones Victorian mansion to pull apart
great video, I added it to my site, you can google it 'Geo Detecting Treasure'. I just hate hunting out on curbs, feels like everyone is watching me.
lol ...through freezes and heat, rain, etc....coins and smalls don't go too far down unless buried several feet...
Why are stones comming up through the soil on a farmers field? (And it's a FACT that they do). I've been told that ice forms under the stone forcing it up - millimeters at a time. Now, IF that is true could the same happen to artifacts?
You could also find a dead body! :( lol! Nice home but creepy as well. Would be a good setting for a haunted house theme movie. GET OUT!! :) LOL!
I don't have an old house setting on my detector!
I wonder who would vacate an old home like this one? Doesn't make much sense to me? Excuse me may I look for treasures in your old home?? Not likely....
All I found was someone's cremated remains buried in my yard. I buried them down deeper.
i think that the farmers plough does that mate.
I was terrified he was going to knock that painting off the wall.
So if you got no history you have to hunt horseshoes...hahaha!!
Thats the thing though.I dont really care for 1800 coins.
i toss them in the hedge lol.
all the saxon/roman i like to dig are deep down.
the only thing that brings it up is the farmers plough.
ive never heard of coins working there way back up through the soil.
only sinking down.
I wish I had a maid.
A pretty one.
:)
back in his prime he was a professional thief!
I found the treasure!! It's all around your waist!.
