Idea map flood patterns for region. Build little beaver type dams and big holes in path of flood waters to slow water and to help it soak into the soil. Short term i suspect above soil lakes will suffer but long term as the soil gets saturated the lakes will probably make a comeback as the ground is already saturated the water will build up in the lakes. May take a few years or a decade or 2 to see good result considering possible drought periods

La Grande Muraille Verte seems like a fantastic accomplishment so far, all credit to Senegal. "It's a warzone ... when whole populations are on the move, we have to find ways to keep them in place ... otherwise millions more will join the crowds of desperate people beating on the doors of Europe..."
I note that burning off this newly established vegetation has been stopped (as a relatively recent "traditional" practice?). But how many animals are actually needed to keep the soil fertile with droppings? And otherwise, is animal herding really the best use of this barely productive land, reclaimed from the advancing desert at such effort and cost?

Earth survive several near extinction lvl event. Some 50% to 80% of life gone.
The Earth recover and always made new biosphere. The next biosphere might not be a friendly environment for humanity, if we do not take care of the current one

Man didn't turn the Sahara into a desert. The climate does whatever it wants. It's the height of hubris to think that humans can change the climate. We can't even predict the climate. Now every time there is a drought people cry about climate change instead of asking "Is it deforestation? Is it overgrazing? Is it undergrazing?" Etc etc
In the 80s and 90s they used to talk about global warming causing an ice age. Why did they stop talking about that? It's because in the 80s/90s we were reaching a cyclical temperature minimum, just like today we are reaching a cyclical temperature maximum.
As soon as 2030 hits, the temperature will begin to go back down, just as it did in the 80s. These are the natural cycles of the environment. But climate change radicals ignore whatever disagrees with them so they only believe delusions.

Almost all the experts were European, this shouldn't be the case. There needs to be a well funded scholarship program and strengthen local Universities and local knowledge.

VERY depressing viewing....But things are happening....Loved the look at that Green wall...but no cactuses or grasses or shrubs....Could they plant some of it as well?..?...some places in Africa made water catchments in a shape of a half moons getting amazing results in holding water and re greening land...people are doing amazing work...they need more support...more money...AND maybe they should asked Chinese for help? Chinese doing pure magic in stopping the desertification.....

We need to build inflatable Mountains from the Earth to outer space and they will accumulate endless amounts of water and ice inside of the upper atmosphere which is why on the space station where the sun is not shining ice accumulates because there is an endless amount of water that is available to us but we just need to build artificial mountains in order to get this endless amount of water that is available to us
    There is endless water
    We need to build mountains

    •  Місяць тому

No. You are right on that increasing albedo and altitude unevenness lowers temperatures, but we don't have infinite water either, it's not yet plausible to build such mountains, and it would lead to the planet leaking even more atmosphere than it already does, which will be another major problem in a few million years for us.
We should install more turbines, that's the most efficient way to transist.Turbines transform kinetic energy and atmoespheric and oceanic heat into electricity which we can use.

the eurocentric ideals of conquering and everyone speaking french instead of native tongues at the end is a bit offputting but i like the focus on solving desertification issues. just a tad bit less eurocentrism would be nice. thanks
