how would you go about removing the strut to replace the strut mounts without air tools or a pass through socket? I just keep spinning the shaft of the strut
Will caster or camber be off if you didn't mark exactly where the struts were sitting? Never dealt with caster. Just camber and toe. Mine have come completely loose from the strut mounts and freely moving at the top. Thanks!
This was a poor procedure. The proper way is as follows: 1. Take the plastic caps off the top of the struts 2. 19 wrench and a 10mm socket will be needed to loosen/remove the nut and black metal plate from the top of the strut. 10mm sits on top of hex head bolt with 19mm wrench turning the nut. Just loosen it for now. 3. Break the lug nuts on the tire, THEN raise vehicle. 4. Remove tire 5. Remove sway bar link...think it's a 15 or 17mm socket on front until it loosens then place a 14 or 15mm wrench behind the link to keep it from turning and remove and let hang to the side. 6. Pull out rubber break hose tab. 7. Remove 2 17mm nuts from hub assembly holding strut. 8. Remove top nut of strut and black metal plate 9. Push strut assembly off hub assembly and pull out. 10. Reversal
Georgia is correct. I had to suck it up and buy more wrenches (and an impact wrench) for this job. Totally worth it. Also pay close attention to his step 5. That nut behind the sway bar link has to have the perfect size wrench or it will strip like-mine did and you will spend an hour trying to remove it before getting ridiculously frustrated and having no choice but to go buy new sway bar links. :-) I think 14mm was the correct size.
So I won't be able to use an impact to take off the first nut that mounts the assembly to the car?.. Because I'll need to hold the hex head bolt/ shaft so that I can remove the nut that is actually holding it in the car or the shaft will spin? .. Just need some clarity on this..... Thanks.....👍
i went to a local shop and had them loosen that top bolt. he had to get a large wrench that could fit around the diameter of the black disk then he held it tight while getting an impact wrench to that top bolt and it worked
You can hire a much cheaper spring compresser from AutoZone. When you try the take the nut off of the rod which is attached to the strut the whole thing turns unless you apply a 15 mm open ended spanner to a nut behind the tab.
Cool! I -hate- my sway bar end links... RATTLE RATTLE. New ones (OEM) rattled after only a few K miles. Does anyone make sway bar end links for Aveo that don't suck?
how do you tighten or loosen top nut once on the car?

so when removing the top bolt did you use a air gun or something because my shaft just keeps spinning inside the strut
you have to use go through socket to take out top nut or you can use air gun.

your step by step comments were so helpful thabks!
i have problems with mine. i need a 9mm socket and a 19mm wrench. is there any other way?

I don't get it. You read the Alldata manual it says remove the tie rods, some driveshaft, etc. Not this easy for sure. Did we skip some steps???
What's the top nut torqued to? For the mount not the cap
Could you give a ball park figure on the cost and would you recommend a place like Pep Boys?
You showed nothing. You just showed a strut out of a car and the machine pressing the struts.
Positive battery terminal replacement?
A1 auto 👍
LOL I got all of that plus like 6 different pairs of spring compressors
hey how come you dont show how you took off top nuts and install top nuts?? lol hmmm
How do you get the top strut nut off on these dam car???? I’m fighting it right now. F my life!!!
I was lucky with the drivers side one but the passengers side is not fuecken coming off it just keeps spinning with the top hat. Wtf!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@MrCneo me too bud did you ever get it off? Been fighting.mine all night. Dont know why they dont use standard 3 nut/bolt mounts
Air or impact tools zip it off quick
mine gets broken twice dont know why?
