  • This week brings the Speysider that is Glen Moray 12. A whisky that is 40% abv and doesn’t have any crazy cask finishes but is just an honest first fill bourbon its whole life, can this still be good whisky? , can it still hit the spot? Let’s check it out and see what we think.
This is the the first video using the mic so let me know if you think it works or not and as always let’s talk whisky

The Mrs. enjoys the Glen Morey 12 Chardonnay cask finish; is an easy drinking dram. All of the 12 year expressions can be had for under $35 making them quite a bargain. Thanks for the review Kev.

Kevin, wonderful review! GM 12 was my first SM 9 plus years ago. Still enjoy it! The 18 is a killer! 47% NCF! Around 100! The Travel Exclusive 12 and 15 are 47 % NCF too!

Audio was fine for me before but really thought this mic improved it even more 👍. This sounds like a good choice for relaxing after a good day at the course. I have had a Glen Moray before at the GWF but it was the Warehouse 1 Oloroso I believe, which was a good one. Cheers!

Excellent with the audio upgrade, I don't know if anything was downright wrong with the quality before, but the volume was indeed so low compared to other YT videos, so I always had to adjust the volume on my tv when listening to your reviews. Not anymore, works perfectly 👍
Excellent review, Glen Moray not exactly a distillery that I'm very familiar with, and I haven't tried the 12 yo.
    Cheers!

Good, honest review Kevin. Just picked up the sherry cask this week as a “daily drinker” for £28 & I have to say it’s really good!

I was at the clacks festival on the Saturday afternoon - tried the Glen Moray Port finish and Amarone - Cracking drams. Enjoyed your review 🥃👍🏼

Having worked in the Moray area for 20 years, it’s pronounced in the same way as the surname ‘Murray’. Their higher abv expressions and more unusual cask finishes are great. Their three handfills are ridiculously good value especially the £60 ones, around a quid for each percent before you get on to the cask. Peated sauternes was a particular favourite of mine.

Just FYI: La Martiniquaise is pronounced ~"la martinikayz" (the "e" on the end means the "s" is not silent, but is silent itself). (Wasn't sure whether to go with "ay" or "eh", as the sound is somewhere between the two...)
The hand-fill I got when I did the tour (back in 2013!) fits what you said you'd like: 11 years old, first fill bourbon and 58.5%.

Glen Moray for me is an excellent starter/in-between whisky, especially the lower value ones. Haven't had a bad dram from them. Also check out their phoenix rising bottle hitting the shelves in roughly 6 weeks time(managed to have a wee try of it before going on sale).Cracking dram, as long as it stays under the £40 mark.

The lower value stuff is perfectly ok but they also do a few more interesting bottles with higher abv including cask strength particularly if you visit their distillery shop…
