- I've got a single malt scotch whisky from the Glenglassaugh distillery in the highlands. This is the Sandend release. It's the last of their updated core range for me to review. I'll taste it and give you my thoughts. Cheers!

I am a big Arran and Bunnahabhain fan and went into my local whisky shop in Oxford UK last week to pick up a bottle of Arran, but was offered a Glenglassaugh taster from the manager. Needless to say I was very impressed and picked up a bottle, so he was a good salesman. Your review was spot on - thank you.
Nice one. Thanks for watching, Buggsy! 🥃
Been waiting for this one! The Sandend really surprised me as well when I was in a local shop and they had a taster. After that, I purchased a bottle for a party, and even the whisky beginners thought it tasted great. The bottle didn't last, and I ended up buying another one for the shelf.
It definitely punches above its weight given its modest price tag, and with the very nicely styled bottle, would even make a great gift for the whisky curious in your life. Extremely drinkable even with the high ABV.
Another great review @Gwhisky!
Yeah this one is definitely special. Hopes were low after the other two, which were decent, but not impressive. For the price this one is a banger. I should have listened to you sooner! 😉🥃
Enjoyed the review. I was gifted this and very grateful for that, it's an excellent whisky and the contents of my bottle is disappearing far too quickly! Thanks for sharing 🥃🥃
Very strong competitor to the Classic Laddie.
Good timing, I just had a glass last night! Excellent dram and pretty reasonably priced
Huzzah! I can actually get a bottle of Sanend from my dealer.😄
This is a great whiskey. I get the “coastal” notes, but I’d lean more towards ‘clean” more than thick or buttery. We agree it’s a very good expression for the price. We all use different words and references to describe flavors.
Totally agree. Descriptors aside, the bottom line is do we enjoy it! 🥃
Just tasted the whole line yesterday at a Whiskey Show. Could not agree more with you comments and Sandend is by far the best.
Come on Old Pultney step up your game.
I absolutely adore this one. My bottle is draining dangerously fast and even despite the higher local price I might need to get another. The salty and sweet taste with the buttery mouthfeel is one of my favorites from this decade
"Bubble milk tea"? Definitely an interesting tasting note. 🙂 I haven't seen these new Glenglassaugh whiskies for sale here yet. Hopefully when they do arrive, they won't be overpriced. Cheers!
Not available here, but luckily I'm off to Europe in a week where selection and prices are much better. As always, appreciate your observations on whisky and sci-fi, two of my fave pastimes. Cheers from sunny Vancouver!
Great review Geoff! This review convinced me to picked up a bottle of the Sandend because I hear coastal and I’m in!!!
It’s nice and I’m not mad at the purchase but I’m not feeling like it’s something I would buy again. I tried it side by side with the Classic Laddie and I preferred the Sandend. Side by side with the Islay Barley 2013 I preferred the Islay Barley. Side by side with the Old Pulteney Huddart I prefer the Huddart.
Bought a bottle of this expression about 6 months ago. I remember being quite impressed (and the bottle looks good in my collection!) I need to get it out again soon and have another taste. Slainte, Geoff!
I'm quite impressed myself. Definitely worth a revisit, I think. Cheers Victor! 🥃
I’m waiting for the new bottles to show up here in Norway. Have only tried Torfa, and I liked that one a lot.
This one is very different to the Torfa and has zero peat. I haven't tried the Portsoy yet but that one does have a peat profile from what I've heard.
I always think of Longrow NAS for salted butter
Manzanilla is a type of Sherry. No idea why the needed to add that info. I might pick up once I finish a few bottles of other whiskies I have
I think it's "officially" different from sherry because of regions, but not technically different from Fino. I'd guess the sherry cask they're alluding to here is an Oloroso, so it makes sense for them to distinguish between that and the Manzanilla. 🥃
Thanks for reviewing this Geoff.
Not a Star Wars fan... trying to loose me?
O, and not tried any of this new Glenglassaugh line...lost me on that already.
Slàinte mhath
Forever hard to please, you are. Cheers my friend! 🥃
here in the uk it ranges from 49.50 to 65.00 quite a variation ;;
I'm looking forward to this arriving in Japan, though the pricing may be a bit high at $80 (which is the current price of the Portsoy). Maybe it will drop as more gets imported he said thinking wishfully. Thanks for the fine review Geoff!
Thanks for watching. Hopefully the price is more reasonable than $80. Cheers! 🥃
Hmm. Very interesting. In the big liquor store chain by me Glenglassaugh 12 year is $59 USD before tax. Portsoy sold out and Sanded is $70 before tax. I’ll wait for the sale as these don’t seem to be moving.
🖖
I have tried both the 12 and the Port soy and none of them had packed a punch to my discerning palate, however I'm willing to give this one a chance because of that very thick texture, coastal and buttery tasting notes in your decription. When you say "very thick", is it viscously clingy that lingers to the finish?
Viscously clingy is a good description. Love the texture on this. I'd say the finish is medium. Really good stuff! 🥃
I think you need a bigger shelf, cause bottles are popping like mushrooms in the forest. Thanks for review 😊
I actually do need more shelf space. The ultimate first world problem? 🥃
Are you hung over?
Good review, I was wondering about this one.
Bladnoch Liora the ultimate butter bomb so this one tickles my fancy...
Hi Geoff, good review. (Did I say this before on a review of you?)
You surprise me with this one.
After your other reviews, I thought I will let this pass for some years.
But now you are triggering me for the Sandend. Maybe I should put this one on my list for trying out ....
It's recommended. Have you tried any of the others? 🥃
@@Gwhisky No, based on your reviews I chose not to try those out. 😇
These are $70-$80 near me, and I’m on the fence. The reviews have been good but not super exciting. The fact that I can get Arran 10 or Craigellachie 13 for $20 less makes these less appealing, but I may have to bite the bullet and give it a shot.
Loved the Sandend but cost near $80 here in Kansas so very pricey.
Ah yeah that's a lot. 😬
sounds good , good mark , but would you buy it ,;;
I mean I did buy it. But I'd buy it again for sure.
Hmmmmmm…I’ve never found a Glenglassaugh that was very interesting. Admittedly I’ve only had about half a dozen expressions over the decades. Maybe this one will change my mind about this distillery. Not a bad value so I’ll give it a try soon. Thanks Geoff.
Hope you enjoy. I think it's the best they've got at the moment. Cheers! 🥃
.
This video timing is a surprise, but a welcomed one.
Lol cheers. 🥃
So given your style and it’s description it appears that - everything is proceeding as I have foreseen ha ha ha! Sorry May the force be with you whisky Jedi 😬
Thanks for the review Geoff, will put this on my radar, so Rachel is back in her cauldron again ;-)
Mr G
Love your channel , long term fan as you know 👍
But
IMO ..this is just ok whisky , high ABV end of and not a lot of subtlety Manzanilla cask 🙈where , just sledge hammer and in ya face ..of course It’s all opinion .
Is this worth £50 maybe it’s not bad , is it better than Deanston 12 at £38 ..no way 👍
Hah we're not supposed to agree on everything, my friend. Agree it's not a subtle whisky, but I really like the overall profile. Cheers! 🥃
