Hey Fellas, Master Blender Nancy Fraley here. Glad you all really enjoyed our Still Austin Bourbon expressions! I think your review was once again fair and honest about the Bourbons. As a technical FYI, the BiB High Rye Bourbon is actually about 5 years and 2 months old, so a good year + older than the BiB requirement. Also, the other 2 Bourbon expressions (the Musician and Cask Strength Musician) are much closer to 3 years old than to 2 years old.
The cask strength has been one of my favorites for more than a year. I can get them at total wine in Delaware for $49.
The Blue Corn variety rocks!
Love Still Austin. Best Texas whiskey made that I have had.
There's a reason you are enjoying the Still Austin...It's blended to drink a Kentucky Bourbon. Yeah it's made in Texas, but to me and a few others that's about it. It's to similar, it's not Texas to me and the group I drink with. No other distillery in Texas tastes the same or remotely like something from Kentucky. Nancy is blending stuff over there and is a resident single barrel picker for Still Austin as well. Makes sense why it's so different than anything else in Texas. For 2 year old bourbon it's not terrible, but that's Texas for you...can age for short amount of time and get product out that is similar to a 6-8 year product from other states.
Just curious…does anyone else in Texas use anything other than a pot still? I can’t think of anything close to another 50’ column still. To me, that’s the big difference.
@@89sooner It could be the column still for sure. A lot has to do with blending though too and they've got one of the most well renowned blender in their pocket with Nancy Fraley. I personally just think that they are blending things out to make it more appealing to everyone. People gravitate towards weaker/less flavorful whiskeys easier than say Balcones or Garrison Brothers. I've tasted a few single barrels she has picked and they are dang close to say something like a Ironroot, 1845 or Bendt product. The final end product to their stuff though just goes back to being mellow and "Kentucky-like" to me.
I love Still Austin Cask Strength Single Barrels. I’m in VA so it’s not distributed around me to my knowledge but I’ve been to other states and picked these up.
My Red Corn is arriving today. Can't wait.
To me, the high rye BiB isn’t that far afield from its mash bill brethren…your other two bottles. The red and then blue corn BiBs are my faves. It amazes me that they had the foresight/courage to lay down two unique mash bills 4+ years ago…before the first Musician reviews that I can find.
Cask strength single barrels are hitters also!
Love the videos, gotta switch up that background music. Keep up the great videos!!!
we do, we switch it around to different things
I had a pour of their straight bourbon in San Antonio and I’ll say no thank you. Young, grainy notes, poor finish. Hard hard pass at 50 🦴 for me. At least it was better than Garrison Bros small batch.
Of The 6 you tried which is your favorite- first you would buy?
the straight rye, and the new Bib Rye
With that many options available (including the ryes), which is the single best bottle to purchase, taking price/value into consideration?
i actually think i like the rye, and the new BiB rye that came out, David
@@bourbonkingdomExcellent, thank you
13:20 Disclosure of free samples would be better placed at the beginning of the video not at the end.
I would agree that is at 1:02 we discussed how they sent us these bottles.
@bourbonkingdom I stand corrected. Thanks for doing that. My apologies.
@@DBTdad it is no big deal bud. We always want to be transparent with everyone because we don't do the whole pay to play thing. Not saying anyone does but we won't do that. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🍻!
My cask strength bourbon has a cedar nose…
