My experience is the opposite, the sun makes me sweat and that makes the condition much worse, it almost goes away in the winter and always comes back in the summer.

My first seborrhea flare up was when I was 18. It was absolutely horrible, my face was red, itchy, scaly, and over the course of a year it got worse and worse. Then I started using a zinc pyrithione cream/spray and it worked wonders - after a week of using it my skin was clear, I genuinely couldn't believe it. As time went on I discovered that humidity was a major trigger for me. Another trigger is dust in the air, I found that the skin areas where I typically have a flare up are very sensitive to dust, also avoid touching those areas with your fingers or clothes/bed sheets/etc. as this makes it worse. I have tried many different facial skin cleaning products but all made my condition worse - I find that simply washing my face with water is the best thing to do for me. I also found that scrubbing your face disrupts the skin barrier and for me this again causes a flare up. Also don't overwash your face as this will lead to skin dryness which again triggers a flare up. Another trigger for me is using any cream that contains any type of oil - I only ever use my zinc pyrithione cream and nothing else as anything else causes itchiness and often a flare up. The sun definitely clears the seborrhea away, it is very very effective, but obviously this only works in the summer months and is therefore temporary. This is coming form my own experience but I think for the people who say that the sun aggravates their condition is because if you have very oily skin (like me), a lot of oil is being released from your skin when you sunbathe for the first time in the year (like May/June time when it starts to get hotter in northern Europe), and the build up of oil initially makes the condition worse. However, any subsequent exposure to the sun makes the condition a lot better and there is noticeable improvement. So unless you are super pale and/or sunburn easily, staying in the sun will very likely improve your condition.
I'd say to everyone please don't scrub your face skin lol Even a not soft face cloth is too much for face skin. Chemicial exfoliation is the way. Now I'll go wild scrubbing my body skin.
Omg the stuff for babies butt? That stuff , I keep meaning to get some because I noticed it was so soothing to me when I used to on my baby. And my baby never ever got diaper rash. She definitely had the cradle cap.
So you can't use any oils like nut or seed oils? I find those , when skin barrier damage occurs and even moisturizers sting that they are the only things that don't hurt and are very soothing.. If i could remember to get the zinc cream , I know it would be as good , probably even better than oils.

1st. chronic stress. 2nd is the food we intake.. avoid any kind of alum it triggers.. 3rd only wash your face with water only..last is exercise or always move your body daily
Washing your face only with water ends up drying it much more than washing once a day with a medicated soap. Using a gentle medicated soap really helps preventing the skin from getting really dry and following it with a moisturizer (applying it while your skin is still damp) works wonders.

Things that I've found to help over the years, maybe they'll help someone: - sunscreen itself makes a big difference, not the sun, - definitely washing hair regularly, - mixing powdered "Amla" (gooseberry from India) with the shampoo before using and leaving in for a few mins. Originally I started talking this as a study showed that it was as potent at preventing hair loss as prescription drugs (preventing the conversation of testosterone to DHT), however it's also anti-inflammatory and helps with collagen health. Bonus effects that I've had lots of compliments on how healthy my hair looks and it also gives a temporary thickness, - being weird here, but in the interests of science, as a teen a started to wash my face like a cat. Yes. With my saliva. Every time I test this, it causes a significant reduction in symptoms. Obviously don't do it if you have something on your skin or after food :P Much love.
Obviously anecdotal, but I've noticed a decrease in flare ups after starting to shave my head with a safety razor. I had pretty bad inflammation and flakes above my eyebrows for years, and it's been subsiding within the past few months now. The downside to this potential solution is that being bald is not for everyone, but I actually like it.

An interesting hypothesis that I just read a study on suggests that up to half of Parkinson’s patients may have a problem in their gut biome that causes them to fail at metabolizing B vitamins, such a Biotin folate and Niacin. It seems like if your gut biome is messed up and your B vitamins aren’t being properly utilized in your body, that might explain why it could be more common in Parkinson’s patients.

I have dandruff and seborrheic dermatities, and used nizoral for about 5 years. Until i learned that coconut oil worked better for me than Nizoral. When i used Nizoral, i was to apply it twice a day. Same goes with coconut oil. I apply it once or twice a day, or two to three times a day, during a flare up period. For my dandruff, it is usually enough to shampoo regularly (three times a week), but if my dandruff is flaring up, i mix coconut oil into my scalp, and let it sit there for about 20-30 minutes, before i wash it out. (remember it is easier to wash out oil from your hair, if you apply the shampoo before putting water in your hair. And then again after you have washed/rinsed the first round of oil and shampoo out of your hair). Thanks a lot for making this video, it was very informative, and have some good advice.

I’m currently pregnant and am having an embarrassing flare up. 😭😭 I have suffered from flare ups since I was a teen. I really appreciate that you went over the ingredients that cause skin irritation and dryness. I always wondered why that would happen to me and if it was an allergy to certain shampoos. Today I’m gonna try using the Head and Shoulders Supreme and Nourish brand since is uses the less harsh form of SLS (sodium cocoyl isethionate) and also has pyrithione zinc. Although it’s a little more expensive, I have used it in the past and it worked before. The one thing I wonder is how often I should wash my hair, as a person with kinky-coily hair it’s such a hassle but once the flakes show up, there is no ‘combing them out’ they just cluster and have a party. So, I’m going for every three days for now. Wish me luck! 😅
i told my dermatologist that ketoconazole treats my acne, and he thought I was nuts. I told him I get these skin conditions when my scalp condition is not well managed.
I have been dealing with this issue since 2013, following my diagnosis with IBS. Certain spices, vegetables, beef, and eggs trigger my symptoms. Despite consulting numerous dermatologists and gastroenterologists, I found no relief. Consequently, I took matters into my own hands, adjusting my diet as necessary. During flare-ups, I apply black hair dye to my scalp, which alleviates dandruff and itchiness for two to three months. Additionally, I use a mixture of apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, and water to massage my face for one to two minutes before rinsing with a face wash, providing relief for about two to three weeks. Despite trying ketoconazole shampoo, tablets, and various other medications and ointments, none have been effective. Now, I cook for myself using only coriander and turmeric, avoiding all other spices.
This popped up on my feed for some inexplicable reason, but I'm glad it did. The explanations fit my symptoms to a tee, and explains a lot. Hopefully this will stop my face falling off from now on!
Also have it. Started as small patches around the scalp and eventually spread throughout the entire scalp, behind ears, between the eyebrows, sides of the nose and a few other spots. What really helps is constantly use an ointment called Cetobeta (I'm from Brazil), which has ketoconazole, betamethasone and neomycin. Also it comes as ointment or cream, but only the ointment works for me. I have long hair and losing a handfull of it everytime I wash really has taken a toll on my mental health and anxiety.

What I've learned is that because I was shampooing too regularly, I was stripping away the natural oils and so my body compensated but upregulating how much oil it was producing. Once I cut out the shampoo, my body gradually decreased how much oil it was making because I wasn't drying out my scalp any more. Like others have said, cutting out sugar makes a bit of a difference as well.
For me it was fruits, vegetables, and processed foods cause it. I only eat animal proteins, oats, and potatoes now. as a bonus my acne went away. I will be testing blueberries and King Arthur keto flour soon. I can't even have the additives they put in most pills.
@@dewilton7712 I've tried this. I eat good food, exactly as you explained it, it doesn't matter, it doesn't help. For me only the minimum stress level helps, that's it. Also I don't take any tills, don't drink/smoke... I don't have any illnesses. The only factor is the stress.
The only upside to the flare up is that when I have it there are no pimples. There are a few things I found that works for me over years of trial and error 1. gotta shower and wash your hair everyday with shampoo. 2. I Find the skin products that works for me and continuously use it. I don't do one brand set. I might use this brand facewash or that other brand bodywash 3. I rub coconut oil on my skin and hair a few minutes before I shower. You might think that is more grease, yes but in hot water it dissolves sebum better than soap and soap wash away coconut oil better than it does sebum so leaves the skin cleaner after washing. 4. I put a few drops of mint oil in my face moisturizer bottle. Mint has anti inflammatory properties and maybe some anti fungal. it does sting for a bit then becomes cool you get use to it over time .but keep in mind to some people it can cause irritation so don't use a lot. 5. Flare up can be caused by stress so be aware of your triggers. 6. It can be caused by non skin allergies that you have so if you have respiratory or food allergies/sensitivity it can cause flare up on your face. Allergies medicine helps me out sometimes.
I get it only when I’m being ridiculous with a bad diet. If I’m eating clean and I don’t get excessive with sugar it disappears for years. But when my birthday or something comes around and I eat 3 cakes in a week I’ll fight with it for a couple months until I eat good again.

My guess is that the cause is insulin resistance, I have dt2 and ate no carb diet and the skin became so much better. Now I ate bread as test, total flareup, ain't doing that again. I think this skin condition is a symptom of insulin resistance.
People also say the skin is your third kidney. If you detox your kidneys, the skin should heal. A lot of people talking about shampoo and external products to apply but a lot could benefit from healing the body at the source level
The annoying thing is I’ve only ever been prescribed ketoconazole and it is not very effective in either shampoo or cream form. I’ve had sebdem in my scalp for decades and as of two summers ago I’m getting awful flare ups on top of my feet and it’s super annoying because I can’t wear flip flops because the strap contact aggravates it and I can’t wear regular shoes because they’re not letting the skin breathe. Hydrocortisone helped 2 years ago hopefully that’s all I need now. Colloidal oat cream also recovered my skin from being very badly scarred by the cocktail of lotions I had used last time.
Food is clearly a culprit. Lots of fat + sugar in one meal is surely a trigger. Things like pizza, baked goods etc. Wheat itself seem to be a trigger. If you sleep enough and have a low fat, high carb diet, there will be no outbreaks.
I prefer to use benzoyl peroxide gel. It solved my problem and if it shows signs of returning, benzoyl cuts it like nothing. Its a harmless chemical compared to most of these other things.
@@Deffine Ketoconazol shampoo did work great but my skin and hair felt very strange after washing and I didnt like it being a serious chemical. Also, I remember it felt very short term. Subsided.
Thanks for all this info. I like zinc cream too.
Thanks for the info, especially the washing face with water only. What brand of zinc pyrithione cream do you use? Your regimen sounds promising.

1st. chronic stress.

Things that I've found to help over the years, maybe they'll help someone:
- sunscreen itself makes a big difference, not the sun,
- definitely washing hair regularly,
- mixing powdered "Amla" (gooseberry from India) with the shampoo before using and leaving in for a few mins. Originally I started talking this as a study showed that it was as potent at preventing hair loss as prescription drugs (preventing the conversation of testosterone to DHT), however it's also anti-inflammatory and helps with collagen health. Bonus effects that I've had lots of compliments on how healthy my hair looks and it also gives a temporary thickness,
- being weird here, but in the interests of science, as a teen a started to wash my face like a cat. Yes. With my saliva. Every time I test this, it causes a significant reduction in symptoms. Obviously don't do it if you have something on your skin or after food :P

Seed oils are a big factor. Castor oil mixed with coconut oil has helped.

@dewilton7712 processed food should but vegies and fruits shouldn't unless your getting too much sugar from the fruit. Sometimes its hard to tell because the flare up might not happen straight away or it might happens during ur next meal and you be blame that food for causing it.
Ive had it for a few years now. And i stressed alot making it worse.. sent me mental.
Only thing ironically that helped me was a moisturiser which fella in video doesnt suggest. Its fragrance free and i have a body wash version too. Otherwise it gets a lot worse. I believe it acts like a barrier feom dry or humid air. I randomly came across this video and found it interesting. The doctor i went too was absolutely useless in comparison.
I completely cured my Seborrheic Dematitis by using Pyrithione Zinc Bar Soap (must moisturize face after) and Nizoral (Ketoconozal) Shampoo. It's something I struggle with for over a decade of my life trying to figure out. These absolutely solved my problems. My red patches and dandruff disappeared in a week. I've tried absolutely everything. This is what works for me. Hope it works for you.

My cousin had this condition as well as rosatia, she got rid of it by changing what she ate, moving to a ketogenic completely cleared her skin in around 7 months. If she starts to try to introduce non keto foods back in, the conditions start to to come back.

Had dermatitis like two years ago...
It tortured me for years. Specially while I was a college student.
Remember waking up every day to go to my morning classes and after washing my face and heading out, from my eyebrows down to my chin, my face was full of this stuff.
Remember being so ashamed of it.
Had an expert look at it and wasn't much of a help.
And one day, headed into a local pharmacy in my hometown for something for my mother, and out of curiosity asked a woman clerk if she knew anything that could help with that.
Without skipping a beat, she turned around and grabbed a tube of Sinoderm.
Small and cheap, so decided to give it a shot, there's nothing to lose.
So, that day, I applied the gel after washing my face before bed and after the next day, the dermatitis never returned.
Was in disbelief.
I struggled with this for years and thought it was Psoriasis. Thank you. This will make my life easier.
The timing is insane
I have this and use nizoral shampoo on my forehead and scalp and it has helped a lot!
I used it and it was amazing for about a year. Now it works, but not nearly as good as before.

Have you tried eliminating sugar and dairy and stuff like people mentioned in the comments? Curious if that helped or not. Good luck! I know water instead of sugar drinks helps me. When I drink anything fermented or sugary like Kombucha it is pretty much an instant reaction. I get patches every few months or when I get sick or worn down physically. Makes me think most of this is diet and exercise and sleep related.

Had really bad case of this on my brows and and beard. started washing my face with Syrian olive oil soap, instantly went away. Redness still present but at least no more flakes and dryness
MCT oil has been a literal game changer.
How do you use it??? Like on your scalp or what?
MCT?
@@dylansolis_26 wherever you have sub derm. For example, if dandruff, suggest rubbing it all over your scalp before bed and wash off in morning. Do it a few nights in a row at beginning, then you’ll be dandruff free for a while. Maybe then just do it once every few weeks after that just for maintenance.
I take it for the brain benefits and I am definitely going to try it on my skin. Thanks for the info!
I'll give my MCT oil a try on my face! I love it in my lattes, maybe I'll love this, too!

Same, does it trigger after washing your face wth a normal bar of soap? Im embarassed of my eyebrows, ears, and middle of the nose :(
Same. I also get it on my chest when it gets real bad.
Showering daily with a selenium sulfide shampoo is the only thing that helps.
Yeah, eyebrows and beard, tho i got pretty dry skin in general. So it's hard to judge what's causing the flakes 😮💨

So much information that I wasn't able to find anywhere else.
Thank you.
Thank you for this video. I have visited both GPs and dermatologist with this chronic issue and no one ever explained it this well to me.
i told my dermatologist that ketoconazole treats my acne, and he thought I was nuts. I told him I get these skin conditions when my scalp condition is not well managed.
Your acne must be fungal if ketoconazole works for it
I have been dealing with this issue since 2013, following my diagnosis with IBS.
I have long hair and losing a handfull of it everytime I wash really has taken a toll on my mental health and anxiety.
doc, is there no correlation with gut issues and/or eating habits/allergies and so forth? as far as i know, usually there's a strict connection between skin conditions and gut health
there is, but he cant sell you products if he tells you that. Doctors have conflict of interest, if he cures you then you dont need him anymore. Read Kevin Trudeau's book Natural Cures They Dont Want You to Know About
Yes there is, it's an autoimmune disease.

Yeh I'm surprised too; I don't think I heard him mention making diet changes once. Lots of people have changed their diets (carbs, processed food etc) and reduced or eliminated this condition.
@@lisacho2725 It was found out by accident by people on carnivore or low oxalate diets. There is so much about diet and nutrition and how it affects the body that they still do not understand.
In my experience washing your face early morning after waking up and at night before you sleep is helpful. I also take a bath everyday and I use anti dandruff shampoo specifically the ones with Zinc perithione!
For me, plain white vinegar on my face just 1 minute before the shower a few days a week. Symptoms vanish in like 3 days it's magic. Costs $2 a year. The dandruff shampoo slightly helped. But vinegar eliminates the symptoms completely. Gotta do it forever though

What saved me was applying humble vinegar. Fasting also helped.
Why most people that have AGA also are present with seborrheic dermatitis? I heard DHT can cause overproduction of sebum which makes seborrheic dermatitis more prone to happen. You didn’t mention this correlation on the video.
I had this issue mostly in my scalp and some occasionally in my beard and eyebrows. I use the shampoo and conditioner Jupiter and my scalp has healed 100%
Thank you for the comprehensive video, I really appreciate it
This was very informative, I've had this condition for many years and I finally have some understanding of it, very grateful!
Thank you for the great information in a very well-produced video!
Im still struggling. According to doctors previously i thought i had psoriasis. Your analysis was on point to my case
If you have had issues with it on your scalp, you can try to zinc shampoos or possibly the selenium sulfide shampoos.
Selenium sulfide was the only thing to help mine. It's a shame I only found it after high school. I had terribly since late elementary school.
Which product do you use exactly
I'm using a selenium sulfide shampoo from a compounding pharmacy and it works well but only for a day or two. I'm looking for something that lasts longer. Its frustrating having to wash your head every single day or the dandruff start to grow again.
That did not help it go completely away for me. For me it is fruits, vegetables, and processed foods that cause it. I only eat animal proteins, oats, and potatoes now. as a bonus my acne went away. I can't even have the additives they put in most pills. I will be testing blueberries and King Arthur keto flour soon.
I've stopped using shampoo and it has helped me.
Ever since I have been on Finasteride my seb derm has gone, its been nearly 2 years since an outbreak!
Short hair and jojoba oil is the only thing that has kept it in check for me so far.

Have you tried topical MCT C8 oil?

Pyrithione zinc is life changing for seb derm. Product name is Brylcreem, think it is from Australia
Thank you 🙏 I live in Aus I’m gonna go down to woolies and buy it
we have 2% ketoconazole over-the-counter in Canada. i usually put it on my face also when i shower and it helps!
In Germany too. Doesn't seem dangerous.
Does it reduces your redness
The only upside to the flare up is that when I have it there are no pimples.
There are a few things I found that works for me over years of trial and error
1. gotta shower and wash your hair everyday with shampoo.
2. I Find the skin products that works for me and continuously use it. I don't do one brand set. I might use this brand facewash or that other brand bodywash
Nizoral is the only thing that fixes my flare ups. I use the cream as well .
You use the cream on scalp too?!
I get it only when I’m being ridiculous with a bad diet. If I’m eating clean and I don’t get excessive with sugar it disappears for years. But when my birthday or something comes around and I eat 3 cakes in a week I’ll fight with it for a couple months until I eat good again.
For me it is fruits, vegetables, and processed foods that cause it. I only eat animal proteins, oats, and potatoes now. as a bonus my acne went away. I will be testing blueberries and King Arthur keto flour soon. I can't even have the additives they put in most pills.
My guess is that the cause is insulin resistance, I have dt2 and ate no carb diet and the skin became so much better. Now I ate bread as test, total flareup, ain't doing that again. I think this skin condition is a symptom of insulin resistance.
I agree
what do you eat instead of bread?

Same dude. Ketoconazole as shampoo or cream is awful.
Food is clearly a culprit. Lots of fat + sugar in one meal is surely a trigger. Things like pizza, baked goods etc. Wheat itself seem to be a trigger.
If you sleep enough and have a low fat, high carb diet, there will be no outbreaks.
Yup.
I prefer to use benzoyl peroxide gel. It solved my problem and if it shows signs of returning, benzoyl cuts it like nothing. Its a harmless chemical compared to most of these other things.
@@MarkoKraguljac I will try it. Have you tried Castor oil? It stops the inflammation reaction at once too. Ketoconazol shampoo also keeps it in check.
@@Deffine Ketoconazol shampoo did work great but my skin and hair felt very strange after washing and I didnt like it being a serious chemical. Also, I remember it felt very short term. Like its not solving the problem but just thoroughly cleaning.

I use Selsun , it contains seleniumsulfide as well.
I think climate, foods, water and just overall dna affects this condition. My husband didn’t suffer until he moved from south Louisiana to North Texas.
