Many refractometers are not designed specifically with the SG scale for standard wort. These SABRE refractometers are made with standard beer wort in mind so they are more accurate.
These also include a LED light, magnetic charging cable and are more water resistant than other models.
Great for home brewing and all grain brewing in particular. Can be used for wine, cider, distillation and many other types of sugar readings.

👍 Cool but but would like a standard charging cable or standard wireless charging, don't like a special cable that could get lost or damaged
I kinda agree but we were having issues getting a standard charging cable plug in the waterproof design to work in this shape so we went with this magnetic design.

Is this non-adjustable? I've got the old one and I have to calibrate it every time I use it, as it's always wildly out of whack. It's like it's so fragile that the slightest bump knocks it out by several points. And it's a pain having to find the distilled water on brewday to calibrate before every sample. Can you calibrate this one? And how fragile is it? That's why I still mostly use my hydrometer as its pre calibrated and never changes unless it's dropped!
Yes this is adjustable. You just turn the screw and you can zero it.
If we measure the value when the temperature is more than 20 degrees Celsius, we can refer to the value we can see, right?

When is the digital refractometer available? Hopefully it will have alcohol correction like easydens.

So the scale shows @20c, the refrac is unaffected by temp though yeah? I have one but I am not convinced of it's accuracy... It would be a shame if something happened to it just before I put my next KegLand order in!
Haha. Thanks for your support. You really need to check with the manufacturer to make sure the SG scale is made for wort.
@@KegLand I meant the example you guys showed has @20c on it around 1:50, at the bottom, does that mean it's calibrated for that temp and we have to adjust?
It would be great to have a refractometer with a smaller range, something like 1.005 to 1.080 for example. I mean, who is brewing 1.130 wort anyways? Most batches are probably even under 1.065
That is a fair point. I think a high accuracy unit that is easier to read is a good idea. I will talk to the others about this.
We are also going to have a new digital model available soon too so this is another option.
Had some lactose in a high ABV brew I did the other day at 1.122, fair point that it's the only one I've ever done with that SG but there is merit in it in some cases.
Does it read Final gravity after fermentation?..
Once you have alcohol in the beer I think it's just easier to use your old fassioned hydrometer. It can be done with this device but you have to use a claculator or tables to calculate the value.
This might be a silly question, but is this accurate when alcohol is present ?
From my understanding (and my refrac) no, it's great pre chilling but once there's any yeast and alcohol involved I still use the hydrometer. I have been known to be wrong and maybe it's just my unit though
Yes once you have yeast and alcohol I would also use the conventional hydrometer.
Is the Brix scale calibrated for beer wort of for a sucrose solution?
Brix is brix. The wort scale is calibrated to be accurate for worts of a fairly standard colour
@@KegLand Maltose and sucrose have different refraction indices. Brix is Brix only when measured with a hydrometer

Thanks for the support. So sorry Andy. Well the older model still works great and to be honest the accuracy of our SG reading on the old model was also quite good. The issue that we found was mostly with other refractometers that were not sold by us so realistically you should be fine and you are not missing out on too much
Fooling around with a hydrometer is no fun. I got a refractometer 5yrs ago, a few drops and never looked back !
