Cliff, not only is this the level of craftsmanship I have come to expect from you, the design is exceptional. I was completely blown away by the column of light that extends downward from the pupil to the culet. Magnificent!
Bravo, Cliff! I think this is your best one yet (both the video and the gem!) I like the 3D animations you made to illustrate the faceting plan before diving into the real thing. Beautiful music, too. :)
The design is really interesting! I think it would suit lighter gems because of how much deeper it makes the sapphire look from the front. Amazing work!
I've been watching a lot of your newer videos and seeing you talk about the pharaohs eye in this video and seeing you do exactly what you said has never been done in future videos is just fantastic. Love the progression 💪💯
Wow Cliff. For so few facets in the crown, there is really a lot of depth to this piece. The "pupil" actually looks three dimensional, as though it goes deep into the gem. Very interesting outcome. I think I could look at this one for hours. :D I"m really excited to know that you got a herkimer diamond. I've been trying to order a specimen for you that you can cut. I'll keep trying, as you seem content to let that one hang out on a shelf. LOL
The stones cut is beautiful ..it has enhances its colour so much and helped the light shine through to bring the radiance out..it’s unusual but I really like this one 😀
It all looks like a miracle to me. In particular, I'm puzzled by the apparent distribution of colour. It seems to be a deeper blue around the outside of the boule and almost white in the middle. Is that right and if it is does that come into the decision of how to cut it ?
It might be good for Dart Vador, but usually, we want to get the exact opposite effet isn't? At exactly 16:54 (when the gemme is right in top front) We see that there is no refraction (rainbow effect) at all. The stone is now totally obscure... The cut are very precise and polished and I'm curious to se a video with ruby boule that get the "super shinny effect like in diamond". Thumb up, as usual.
Thank you. I’m new to faceting and have not yet bought a machine, although I have more than a dozen synthetic sapphire boules in various colors. What machine would you recommend? (I am a lapidary & silversmith.)
Thats very pretty , my brother and father were both jewelers & lapidaries , the sound of the wheels is forever engraved on my mind They did cabs mostly though my brother was going to go into faceting but he left the business before he did Whats a gem like that go for ? I like the eye concept
I won this piece of boule at a faceting workshop. So I have no idea what it's worth. I do know that some of these colors can be expensive. I think the reds and pinks are the cheapest.
About how thick do you leave your finished girdle at? I know the smaller the stone the smaller the girdle. But is there a standard that you go by? Would a girdle on a 1/4 caret round be the same as a 1/4 caret princess cut or a oval of the same weight? Is there a way to figure what the girdle is going to be on different weighted sones or is it just by guess and hope you don't get it wrong. I do know that if the girdle is wrong your stone is worthless and it has to be cut again. It is not fun to cut a stone a second time because you have to cut everything again and doing that you loose a lot of size and weight. Now its time to go watch another one of your videos and learn something knew. Thank you
I usually go 0.025 to 0.028 gauge thick on 6mm to 10mm gems. Buying a gauge to measure thickness would be handy. If you are setting a gem always go for a thicker girdle to avoid chipping. Cheers Cliff
As of yet, I've never seen a truly deep blue synthetic Sapphire that also has that hint of green in it as the natural stones have. Particularly the Australian ones from the Inverell region. However, they have successfully produced true deep red synthetic Rubies.
I. Would love to get your pattern but I have an old faceting machine and it wanders more than an ex girl friend I had in High School. I getting anew machine in April maybe I will contact you then Thanks Jim
it'S strange, the center of the gem on the bottom seem to concentrate a lot of light, but seen from the table it gets pretty dark in the center. the name fits perfectly.
Actually, infact the super glue is a stronger glue. I used it on the first transfer of the "bling bling" video then the devcon. Didn't use it on the Opal as the super glue is harder to remove so I didn't want to chip the soft Opal. Apart from the difficult removal I use it to glue flat head nails on gems to make cabs out of at my gem club every week. So I'm saving the super glue for my cab work. It's a easy product to use, apart from the extra heat needed to detach it.
Dear cliff thank you so much you must be sent from heaven I wish to see in my lifetime sooner or later whereabouts in the world do you live so i can visit you
I care less about what it’s made of, and more about the design. Usually if something jumps out at me and gets my attention, that is what matters. If a thing can make me feel something then it has value to me.
Interesting shape. Thanks for including more of the design process in your recent videos
Thanks Paul.
Cliff, not only is this the level of craftsmanship I have come to expect from you, the design is exceptional. I was completely blown away by the column of light that extends downward from the pupil to the culet. Magnificent!
Manuel, I think design really works. It looks better in real life, It has more sparkle.
Bravo, Cliff! I think this is your best one yet (both the video and the gem!) I like the 3D animations you made to illustrate the faceting plan before diving into the real thing. Beautiful music, too. :)
Thanks. I think the 3 D animation gives the viewer a better perspective of what's going on before I facet. Cheers
The design is superb, that inner column of light is a show stopper the music perfect background to watch the craftsman at work.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Oh wow. The effect of this cut is amazing. I am in absolute awe.
The design is really interesting! I think it would suit lighter gems because of how much deeper it makes the sapphire look from the front. Amazing work!
Thanks. I think this would also look good with lighter gems.
I've been watching a lot of your newer videos and seeing you talk about the pharaohs eye in this video and seeing you do exactly what you said has never been done in future videos is just fantastic. Love the progression 💪💯
Thanks James for your interest. Cheers Cliff
Lovely job mate and an excellent addition to the "Eye" group of designs.

Wow!!! I love it! Sapphire is my birthstone!
Thanks Todd.
Absolutely beautiful!!!!!

Thanks John.
I couldn't have clicked any faster! I love your videos!
Thanks WhiteSythie, Hope you enjoy the video. Cheers
Very nice result. Well done Cliff.
Thanks Chris
It's a beautiful design. It makes the stone look even more blue.
Thanks Rufus.
Straight from Brazil, watching your channel
Greetings from Australia. Brazil has some beautiful gems.
I love the 3D explaining
I thought the 3D scenes would give the viewer a better idea of the process.
Lovely cut! Blue is my favorite color!!
Thank you Jo Ann

Hi Tempus, I was very happy with the outcome of this gem. I think it looks better in real life. Cheers
Love it so much
Thanks
Very nice design. The cut and polish are great. I rewatched this as I am getting ready to facet some blue sapphire myself.
Have fun!
Vintage Time thanks - I always have fun. Faceting is a peaceful activity.
You are a great teacher.
Beautiful
Thank you.
Mate that is stunning, i think I would rather have man made because I’d be too frightened of loosing it. Thank you for sharing 👍👍👏👏
Wow! This is really cool.
Beautiful. Love the design.
Thanks Featherdude.
Amazing video as always. It's such a pleasure to watch your videos and to see the wonderful things you do! A hug from Italy.
Thanks arTeo. Italy is doing it tough at the moment...Wishing you all the best.
Brilliant videos. I watch them all. :-)
I glad that you enjoy them. Cheers
Love the design
This is just beautiful!
Thanks
the reflections on the crown are beautiful
Thanks....
I'm so pleased that you like the crystals Cliff! There are more and facet-able Herks coming soon to a postbox near you..,
Thank ypu. I look forward to faceting a Herk. Regards Cliff
The stones cut is beautiful ..it has enhances its colour so much and helped the light shine through to bring the radiance out..it’s unusual but I really like this one 😀
Thank you Christine.
what a beautiful work! thank you, i'm definitely subscribing
Lovely design, suits the colour of the gem very well. The name is truly inspired, if there were a sea god I'm sure it would have that kind of eyes.
Thanks Kathy. I thought the design and the colour suited the name of the gem.

Bonita gema, belo trabalho...
Thank you.
Great video

Beautiful that's all I can say!
Glad you like it!
Thank you. I’m new to faceting and have not yet bought a machine, although I have more than a dozen synthetic sapphire boules in various colors. What machine would you recommend? (I am a lapidary & silversmith.)
Hi Mike, I'd but a machine manufactured in the country you live in. But first I'd join a gem club and learn on their machines....Cheers
Very nice 🙂👍💯
Nice cutting
Interesting. How much would this stone cost to purchase?
You should try to reproduce the Heart of the Ocean from Titanic (1997)
It would be nice to have design sheet.
looks a little bit like cleos eye, but different sparkle...nice job!
Turned out beautiful! What is the make and model of the facet cutter you are using?
I use a Australian machine called a "Facetstar"
Cliff, after the gem is finished do sell them off, collect them in a box hand them over to a Jeweler?
Usually my wife ends up with them, or in a display box or cabinet. I've only sold a few as I enjoy cutting gems for a hobby and enjoyment.
that valve oil is it redilly avaliable here in Australia ?
Thats very pretty , my brother and father were both jewelers & lapidaries , the sound of the wheels is forever engraved on my mind
They did cabs mostly though my brother was going to go into faceting but he left the business before he did
Whats a gem like that go for ? I like the eye concept
I have know idea what it's worth. I'd say about $200 plus US. I've noticed the Cleopatra's Eye is selling at $500 plus in synth Ruby. Cheers
If you put the apex point of the pupil further from the stone that would change the angles..wouldn t that change the pupil to horizontal?
The table is level.
hello my friend good afternoon, what is the name of this 3d program? Is he his own jewelry?
How can I as a buyer tell labgrown gemstones from glass? Is there a test I do?
How much was the boule and where did you order from?
I won this piece of boule at a faceting workshop. So I have no idea what it's worth. I do know that some of these colors can be expensive. I think the reds and pinks are the cheapest.
are there any specific laps to use for faceting and polishing saphires. from heavy to fine.?
600- 1200 grit topper lap, then 8000 grit diamond on copper for a prepolish then a final polish on tin with 50,000 diamond grit for small sapphires.

Synthetic sapphire has a huge advantage in offering far more material for the price. Which means more fun faceting new designs. :)
The other advantage is will be the only larger Sapphire i can afford to facet in my life.
I. Would love to get your pattern but I have an old faceting machine and it wanders more than an ex girl friend I had in High School. I getting anew machine in April maybe I will contact you then Thanks Jim

The gem looks so much better in real life.
I ment to ask a while back , but it looks like you went back to Devcon epoxy the superglue must have been to hard to work with
Actually, infact the super glue is a stronger glue. I used it on the first transfer of the "bling bling" video then the devcon. @@VintageTimeGems gluing a nail for making cabs? That's such a neat idea!
Where i can get diamond like you sir?or any good australian online shop?
*Diamond paste like you use sir
Why specifically is the "Pharaohs Eye Facet" impossible?
This is blue sapphire or ?
Top gostei.
if you time travel two years you will facet the Pharaoh's Eye . this may be the first 'EYE' I cut . thanks for the insight
Dear cliff thank you so much you must be sent from heaven I wish to see in my lifetime sooner or later whereabouts in the world do you live so i can visit you
Do you sell your cut stones?
Hi Gary, I don't sell my cut gems. Maybe someday I sell a few to cover cost of materials. Cheers
💪
Tuyêt vời
why is it called “how to facet” and not “how to cut”? not a problem i’m just curious
Just thought I'd change up the title that's all. Cheers
Vintage Time gorgeous cut, by the way! you’re really inspiring me to want to get into faceting myself!
@Vernon Perdue You are correct, it's grinding process.
I care less about what it’s made of, and more about the design. Usually if something jumps out at me and gets my attention, that is what matters. If a thing can make me feel something then it has value to me.
No dont like synthetic but i watch you faucted it
