We came across your non-dairy butter review today. (We are always on the lookout for anything that references any of our milkadamia products and are excited to learn how they stack up). We are happy you enjoyed our butta taste as much as we do. We laughed when you said you consumed the rest of the Baggett using our Butta; we are always doing that! For us, bread is just an excuse to eat more butta. Thank you for such an honest appraisal of the vegan butter world - we are okay with bougie. We know our choice to avoid using Palm Oil adds to the manufacturing complexity and thus price. While milkadamia Butta Bing Butta Bloom may feel like it cost an arm and a leg, using Palm Oil is costing us the Earth. Keep up the impartial objectivity and authenticity!
Myokyos butter (not oat) is so close to butter i love it. Not great for sauteeing, high heat kills its good flavor, just for toast and melted on top of or mixed in things potatoes/popcorn. Smart balance makes weird texture in cookies for me. Pure blend makes a great frosting I thought smart balance had added off flavor in frosting
Yeah, not to be negative or anything, but some of us can’t spend 42 minutes of our lives watching two cute millennials eat vegan butter. Please consider editing your content for time.
Miyoko’s is the best. I use it on all my parents’ meat-eating friends and NOBODY can tell the difference. The only thing that happens is their eyeballs get big and almost fall out of their head when I tell them it’s vegan, lol. It’s awesome because then they are enthusiastic to try OTHER vegan delights right after💚
Y'all are both looking really cute with the colored hair, love the red on you Sarah :)! I was using earth balance but I recently got really inexpensive dairy free butter at aldi! It's called countryside creamery ~ haven't used it much/for baking yet though
For those concerned about buying organic and/or ethical palm oil, I’d recommend getting Earth Balance’s organic buttery spread. Last I read, the organic palm fruit is sourced from a region where orangutans don’t live. It doesn’t come in sticks but bakes just fine. The flavor is still classic Earth Balance imo.
Oh my gosh .. I almost fell out of my chair when Sarah said “it tastes like the bird aisle smells in the pet store”.. I bought the Forager Project buttery spread and didn’t like it and wasn’t sure what it reminded me of... I am a fan of the organic Earth Balance ..thanks for sharing .. love your videos
I live in Finland, so I'm not going to find any of these products in the stores nearby - yet here I am, watching a 40-minute long video describing different types of butter just bc I love you guys
"This tastes like something.." "Garbage?" Lmao I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't care for Califia farms. Only thing I like is their one black cold brew..daaaaassssit! Nothing else from them does it for me lol
WOW! Hi Sarah & Eric. I can't believe I haven't come across this video before now. I love this comparison, including a nice variety of vegan butters, and I also enjoyed how some of these tastes brought back memories from your childhood. I hope you can try your cookie recipe again with our Baking Sticks. The sticks formulation is made without Canola, and Flaxseed Oil. This reduction in liquid oils makes the % of solid oils (Organic Coconut and Organic Palm Fruit Shortening) greater, allowing for it to remain a bit more solid, and your cookies might bake a little bit taller? Thanks for posting a fun and informative video to watch. I Subscribed now, so I won't be missing out for so long any more. :)
Earth balance is by far my favorite. I threw the tub of Melt I bought in the trash. I really don't want butter that tastes like coconut. I also hated that Pure Blends avocado oil one. I need to try the Milkadamia and Califia Farms butter.
Wow, that's a big choice. I live in country Australia and have very limited options but I can get Naturli, which is a Danish brand and really good. It has shea butter, almond butter and carrot juice amongst others. It tastes like dairy butter to me, but it has been a long time.
I'm in NB, Canada! Becel makes a vegan margarine which tastes identical to the real thing. Earth Balance I think can be found at Sobeys & is also really good!
Eric's salt rant speaks to me soul. Love this taste test. So comprehensive. I'm an og earth balance girl myself. Partial to the red container, soy free...I just like the flavor a bit better than the yellow. Also I want to by Forager butter just to see what PetCo tastes like. Bravo guys!
Miyoko’s garlic parm spread is incredible! I was literally eating it with a spoon! Love her plain butter as well, and I always have Earth Balance on hand, love to bake with it.
Earth Balance has always been my favorite. I've tried a couple of other ones but Earth Balance was my the first vegan butter I've tried & I've been hooked ever since.
That's funny, you all were not impressed with the Pure Blends avocado butter, which is my favorite. I've tried a lot of these, and we do always keep the country crock for baking, but I specifically buy the Pure Blends for just spreading on bread. I love it!
For anyone living in the UK, Naturli vegan butter is great and palm oil free. There is a spread and a stick version and you can find it in Sainsbury's :)
This was useful and entertaining, thank you. I’d love to hear your vegan mayo thoughts. I’ve been using veganaise for ever but am wondering if there is any others that are good and perhaps cheaper !
I want to like Melt because I find it's pretty decent for SOME baking (since it's quite solid at fridge temp) but I found it tastes SO much like coconut. I couldn't enjoy it on toast! Earth Balance is a staple in my house bc it just tastes so dang good. Also, all vegan butters are so expensive in Canada lol. Earth Balance is usually between $4.99 and $6.50 rip
Sounds like Melt might be good for a precooked pastry crust, for a pie of similar profile, like coconut cream, or banana cream. Might be good for brownies or chocolate cake, as well. And frosting, in cool weather.
I live in Ontario Canada and we have Melt and Earth Balance. You can get Miyokos at health food and specialty stores but it is like $10. It's about $5 for the mainstream ones. Becel also makes vegan margarine.
I’m able to get the Melt sticks where I live!! They’re definitely convenient. Melt is by far my favorite overall for spreading and sautéing. Flavor is so good, and I especially love them since they use ethically and sustainably sourced palm oil, and are rainforest alliance certified. I could never go back to any other. :) I don’t bake nearly as often as I cook, and a lot of the time the recipes I use don’t call for a butter substitute lol.
very excited about this being a serious, i’ve been curious about vegan ground meat substitute, my local kroger stocks about 3 or 4 different kinds and i’m very indecisive haha
Thanks for doing the baking portion, that helps a lot! I love baking but was having a hard time finding the right one to bake with. I live in HI so there's not a big selection of vegan butters available. I just bought my first Melt and found it saltier than the Earth Balance and Country Crock. Those are the top ones for me.
I use the Earth Balance (all flavors), Country Crock Avocado & Olive OiI (sticks & tub), and the Pure Blends Avocado Oil tub. My options are limited because of food allergies, but to have all of these when they weren't available to me as a kid - I love it. The only vegan butter I've ever tried & absolutely HATED was the vegan I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spread. It took me FOREVER to finish that.
Old video but I'm in Austria and my go-to butter is a brand called Flora. I'm not entirely plant based myself but this product is awesome for baking but also on bread or waffles. It's also pretty cheap compared to dairy butter. I've recommended it to people before and it's on sale every once in a while, so sometimes I get two blocks. They keep great, while dairy butter can start tasting a bit rancid-y after some time.
I personally prefer Earth Balance and it does come in sticks. It's around $4.00 per tub at my local Kroger but it goes on sale at least once every 2 months when I buy 2 and freeze the 2nd one until I need it defrosted to use when I run low of the one I'm using.
Earth Balance is my go to but I do enjoy trying different ones too. The Miyoko's Oat milk spread was probably the least favorite I have bought but I haven't tried all the ones you tried. I think a taste test of chicken nuggs/patties would be awesome and vegan bacons!
hmmm im gonna try adding water to my cookie dough. Also since im cooking with erythritol I want it to melt since it is thermophillic and also since im allergic to sugar too I'll see what happens. You said that the butter with the water as first ingredient was the softest cookie so...maybe... I'll see. Might update if any of y'all remind me. Thanks for the vid!
I use A LOT of vegan butter so I generally switch between Earth Balance (which I can buy in a massive tub), Melt (which typically always has coupons inside), and more recently Country Crock sticks when they go on sale. Earth balance is my favorite for pie crust since it holds up better, melt is good for sweet baked goods since it’s more coconut tasting and country crock has been my go to for other baking/cooking and spreading on stuff like cornbread and toast since it spreads the best and like you said is basic tasting. While I love more expensive butters I just can’t afford them since butter is a staple for me! Super informative video though, it was cool seeing your thoughts and reviews.
Earth balance is my favorite. To me it tastes the most like butter. Glad you guys did this. Thought about trying some different ones, will have to try some of the top recommended.
I'm so glad I came across your video. Someone had given me a package of the Country Crock butter. But it has kosher salt instead of the avocado oil. I was afraid it wouldn't taste any good. Good to know that it is very similar to regular butter. But my question is how well does it melt when cooking with it?
for anyone in Germany, I'd recommend Alsan if you cannot find a organic grocery store which carries vegan butter. It is margarine but it is quite firm and firms up when cooled so it works well for backing
I really like you two, real and funny. Loved the comment about one of the butters tasting like the bird aisle smell in a pet shop! Hilarious. You also don't wave the product about when showing it, so we can actually read the label. I could relate to your comments about flavours so they were well described and very helpful. Overall, a throughly likeable couple doing a great taste test on a wide range of vegan butters, both spread on bread and next baked in cookies. Excellent and thank you for all the work you put into this. Recommended.
For burgers, a recipe (from "Ten Talents" vegetarian cookbook by Hurd): Hi-Protein Millet Patties 2 cups raw millet, cooked (making ~4 cups, after being cooked) 1/2 cup nut butter (peanuts, almond, cashew, etc.) 1 Tbs. oil + 1 Tbs. soy sauce 2 Tbs. onion powder 1 tsp. veg. salt Celery seed, rosemary and thyme to taste Form into patties and brown in lightly oiled pan.
Melt is great, very buttery-tasting, and it cooks well. Let it cook off some of the water. I haven't tried it in baking. Does the Country Crock have omegas in it? I find that some things, like flax oil, can have a slight fishy taste, and I think it's from the omega in it.
It's an old Video but my favorite plant based battery is called "Flora" and it's available in Austria and Germany. 250g for 1,79. I never liked margarine but Flora tastet like real butter.
Here in Austria, we have Alsan and tastes excellent. The mouthfeel is just like butter. But it’s primarily palm oil :(. I also buy Flora Plant which is also excellent. Alsan is 1.39€ for 250g (.5 lb) and Flora is 1.69€ for 250g.
This Video: How many carbs yall want to consume today? Sarah and Eric: YES!!!! On a side note, there are not many you tubers I will watch content over 25 minutes. This is one of them I will proudly and sit through the ads.
My husband and I like the Miyoko's Oatmilk butter, buuuut, my son doesnt. He likes the Country Crock. We get both, but I do find myself using the Country Crock more in general.
I've used the Country Crock olive oil butter sticks and found they worked quite well. Used them in making cinnamon rolls and in making cookies and both desserts turned out great!
Wonderful video! I haven’t tried some of the newer ones, and now won’t even bother. Earth Balance has always been my favorite for baking and cooking, so I’m really glad that it is still the best budget choice overall.
Great video! When I was looking for a non-animal butter the other day, the only one I could find with no palm oil was the Simple Truth Buttery Spread, which, it turns out, I like a lot. NO PALM OIL in Simple Truth Buttery Spread! Butter beans for the win!
I don't comment much on videos but I absolutely adored this video and I'd love to see more like this in the future! I feel like you guys have really good insights and also can we just appreciate the amount of effort and all that went in to this?!?! Love it; thanks guys!
I would love to see a cream cheese episode. It is the only thing I haven't found the perfect substitute for. I generally go to daiya or violife but it just doesn't have the acidic quality I'm looking for.
I admire your dedication here. After watching, I, of course, had to go eat a piece of sourdough bread with butter. For the record, my current butter is the Country Crock plant butter tub made with almond oil. I like Country Crock, Melt, & Earth Balance.
Love cooking with the country crock butter. I've tried the almond and olive oil one and it pretty much has the same consistency as regular butter! It's so good!!
Great video. Thanks! My first foray into plant-based butter last week (Kerrygold butter & Brie cheese were my last holdouts😭), I picked up some Miyoko. For $1.99. After watching this I’m heading to the store to stock up if it’s still on sale!😄 It’s not Kerrygold, but it’s good.
Agree, califia farms is a miss for me...I think I like their black+white coffee but I'm not totally sure so I refuse to purchase (dont want to be wasteful!) Milkadenia milks/creamers are SO watery 😔
The Natural Grocers plant based butter is like reeeall. Try it! Feels like dairy butter! Softens quick but holds up like Earth Balance. I was a Myokos user for a good while before discovering the Grocers brand!
I pretty much buy the Country Crock and I Can't Believe at this point because they're so cheap and always on sale in comparison to the others. I really only use them anyway to spread on bread and to bake with, since I don't cook much with oil (just not my thing lol). I think the burger's taste test is a great idea, especially if you have so many of them already! I think I would like a vegan ice cream test too.
I loved this! I purchased forager butter a couple of weeks ago, it sucked. I`m really loving the country crock almond oil butter right now. I`m glad you mentioned that earth balance might have refined their recipe I`ll be trying that one again soon.
becel has a vegan margarine now that ive been buying because it goes on the same sales as becel does (99c a tub usually is when i stock up) and it freezes well! i usually buy at least 4 tubs at a time cause i use it for everything and im not even vegan
I have NONE of these available in Europe. I have never liked butter so I do not miss it at all. However, I love your videos so much, I decided to watch it anyways. You guys are just so great! Fantastic sense of humor, lovely approach towards life and the content is always so entertaining! . Anyways, sending you lots of love guys! Have a great week!
as a non-vegan I find Earth Balance very good. I've made vegan cookies for work events and no one could tell and really enjoyed them. I think this video proves that there is more variety for differing tastes and dietary choices. I often times use Earth Balance over regular butter unless I'm doing something like butter basting a steak.... milk solid really help brown the meat. More of my friends are reducing their meat consumption and I think that is a reflection of de-stigmatizing of vegan/vegetarian culture. Most people want to be healthier and leave a more sustainable earth. I've been watching his channel for a while and wanted to say I've enjoyed the content and gives even non-vegans options and healthy ideas.
Earth balance sticks are great for baking, use them every week, but having a problem finding them lately, in Tampa florida. Sticks are different than the tub for some reason
Melt has been my go to for buttered toast, it doesn’t taste exactly like butter, but I actually prefer the flavor to earth balance. Miyoko’s is my favorite for baking or something like buttered pasta where you want to taste it, just wish it was a bit more affordable! Forager’s sour cream is the best I have found, I’d be interested in a sour cream taste test!
I was looking for an alternative to Nutella to avoid eating palm oil. I discovered CHOCO SQUASH, it is made with pumpkin seed butter and cacao. It keep very well and taste delicious, better than Nutella. It is vegan and better health wise.
I'm from Canada and we have Becel vegan margarine! Works so well in cookies and is really affordable 😊 I like Earth Balance and Miyoko's too but they're more expensive than the Becel one
This was great! Thanks for doing all that work. I've only used Earth Balance and OG regular Miyokos and for baking I like to use Miyokos. I find that it's less greasy, the consistency is better and finished products taste better than Earth Balance. 💞🧁🍰🍪
this is so incredibly helpful i am very sensitive to that 'fishy' taste, which especially comes out when baking butter-forward recipes, like toffee. my research shows that it is omega-3-heavy oils/nuts that cause this flavor, but i've yet to find one that doesn't have that problem looks like califia was a contender, but it is discontinued. still looking for 'the one' with no fishy flavor thank you for this!
The Flora Buttery spread in the UK is really good. I’m not vegan and I can’t tell the difference and actually prefer it to regular dairy butter/spread tbh.
My husband and I stick to Earth Balance because it’s delicious but also because of the omega 3’s in it. I really want country crock to incorporate omega 3’s as well because I like the taste more to be honest.
Newbie🌱 . So glad I found you on my feed! I just bought the country crock plant butter and thought it wasn’t vegan after all. Only because I’m new at this and read the 75% plant based so I haven’t used it. Definitely will now. I Love Miyokos butter but yes, definitely pricier here in L.A as well. I need your cookie recipe!!! 😋
Miyokos butter is my fav. I don't eat vegan butter too often but I always use it when I have non vegans over and they like it. My parents aren't vegan but they try to eat as little dairy as possible. They love this one. 10 outta 10 would but every time
My favourite vegan butter spread is Naturli which is from Denmark. It's rich, creamy and delicious! My second choice is Flora plant based butter which also has a nice buttery taste. ❤
THEY'RE ALL GOOD , AS NO ANIMALS WERE ABUSED OR KILLED TO MAKE THEM - AND AS A SIDE NOTE , I'VE BEEN A VEGAN FOR A LOT LONGER THAN FIVE YEARS , AND HAVE TASTED THEM ALL , AND THEY ARE ALL DELICIOUS , AS WELL AS HEALTHY FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED ! BRAVO ALL VEGANS ! BRAVO !
This was so awesome and helpful! I love that it wasn't just a butter taste test but also a baking challenge and WHO EVER THOUGHT of only making two chocolate chip cookies? Genius.
Love your channel! I am wondering about you telling Eric that he shouldn’t rate the Earth Balance an A-plus just because it was the first one… You could theoretically have all of them be A-plus if that’s what you thought… I’d rather see the butters rated based on what you think as opposed to as a comparison to the others. Now, numbering them in order of best to least desired can take place afterwards. 🌻

I appreciate the level of detail... can you do: cream cheese? Sausages? Cheese shreds? Mac and cheese
Yes! All these please 😍
I feel like they did Mac and cheese before, but I could be wrong
And sour cream
Violife’s vegan cheese shreds are the best. Simple Truth’s vegan sour cream is the worst.
Myokyos butter (not oat) is so close to butter i love it. Not great for sauteeing, high heat kills its good flavor, just for toast and melted on top of or mixed in things potatoes/popcorn. Smart balance makes weird texture in cookies for me. Pure blend makes a great frosting I thought smart balance had added off flavor in frosting
y'all are amazing lol. i cant believe i watched yall eat butter for 45 minutes and was PURELY entertained the whole time
Wow. Me too.
You weirdo. 😉
ME TOO
yep
Yeah, not to be negative or anything, but some of us can’t spend 42 minutes of our lives watching two cute millennials eat vegan butter. Please consider editing your content for time.
TheWarrrenator read the blog post then.
Also, let's appreciate how much time Sarah spent baking all these cookies. Guys, she puts her heart into making these videos!
Miyoko’s is the best. I use it on all my parents’ meat-eating friends and NOBODY can tell the difference. The only thing that happens is their eyeballs get big and almost fall out of their head when I tell them it’s vegan, lol. It’s awesome because then they are enthusiastic to try OTHER vegan delights right after💚
Totally my FAV too. Uncanny how much Miyokos’ European-style it tastes like dairy butter.
It's so funny to me how many people love her products in general. I really don't like any of them. :)
that’s because it has oat milk! the best non dairy milk!❤️
thank you for your service omg so many butters! I thought we were doing pretty good in Canada but the selection you're getting is amazing!
Can you post the recipe for the single-serving cookies?? I would love to just be able to make two cookies!
what you can also do is put cookie dough in the freezer and bake them as you want
Yes pleaseeee
Yes, please!
If you go on pinterest and search 2 cookie recipe, you'll find it! Just have to find something to substitute the egg.
Y'all are both looking really cute with the colored hair, love the red on you Sarah :)! I was using earth balance but I recently got really inexpensive dairy free butter at aldi! It's called countryside creamery ~ haven't used it much/for baking yet though
Oh that's awesome! I don't have an Aldi's near me -- I have to make it to one next time I'm visiting my family.
Unnatural Vegan made a video on this, apparently there’s no such thing as ethical palm :( it’s all marketing
I was JUST trying to figure out if it was the butter that was messing with my cookies thank you so much 😭❤️
I’d suggest melt! I just made snickerdoodles with it last week. Just leave out the extra salt since vegan butter is usually salted.
Tbh for baking coconut oil is probably better than any vegan butter. Just our opinion 😁🌱
Something to definitely look out for is the % fat. Some spreads have a lot of water and not enough fat to work in baking.
Myokos is my personal fav!
Comes in a box rather than plastic container and minimal clean ingredients! Plus tastes amazing. ♥️♥️😍
The country crock almond oil one is my fav of the three country crock butters!! Tastes the most like butter to me!
Agreed!
I totally agree. It’s my favorite!
Gotta give this a try.
"This tastes like something.." "Garbage?" Lmao I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't care for Califia farms. Only thing I like is their one black cold brew..daaaaassssit! Nothing else from them does it for me lol
ALL of their products have the strangest artificial flavor!!!!

The audio is crisp. Video quality looks really good too. Love this type of video AND over 45 minutes. Good day. Love you guys
Thank you for complimenting the audio 😇😇
Did anyone else have to pause half way through to make buttered toast? 😂
Earth balance is by far my favorite. I threw the tub of Melt I bought in the trash. I really don't want butter that tastes like coconut. I also hated that Pure Blends avocado oil one. I need to try the Milkadamia and Califia Farms butter.

arielle.paige yes!! I love the vegan margarine, it’s super cheap too
We always get the Crystal margarine from Costco -NB Canada

I'm so glad I came across your video. Someone had given me a package of the Country Crock butter. But it has kosher salt instead of the avocado oil. I was afraid it wouldn't taste any good. Good to know that it is very similar to regular butter. But my question is how well does it melt when cooking with it?
Is there a recipe on your blog for the single(ish) serve cookies?
for anyone in Germany, I'd recommend Alsan if you cannot find a organic grocery store which carries vegan butter.
I love vitalite dairy free...I’m from the UK and most of the supermarkets carry it ♥️
For burgers, a recipe (from "Ten Talents" vegetarian cookbook by Hurd):
Hi-Protein Millet Patties
2 cups raw millet, cooked (making ~4 cups, after being cooked)
1/2 cup nut butter (peanuts, almond, cashew, etc.)
1 Tbs. oil + 1 Tbs. soy sauce
2 Tbs. onion powder
1 tsp. veg. salt
Celery seed, rosemary and thyme to taste
Form into patties and brown in lightly oiled pan.
Best ones here in the uk are..naturli (made with Shea butter) and Flora buttery.
I really like the Miyoko's Oat Milk spread! Country Crock Almond Oil spread is a cheaper but still very good alternative.
Definitely does come down to preference taste-wise. her original butter will always be one of my faves!
And I’ve made 10/10 cinnamon rolls with the country crock though I try and be conscious of buying palm oil products
Melt is great, very buttery-tasting, and it cooks well. Let it cook off some of the water. I haven't tried it in baking.
Does the Country Crock have omegas in it? I find that some things, like flax oil, can have a slight fishy taste, and I think it's from the omega in it.
love the life size movie reference! haha, gosh our generation movies were iconic lol
I love melt! I'm rooting for it. Sending love to you both, thanks for the video!
We need that cookie recipe!! They looked so crispy and perfect 😮
Props for such attention to detail! I appreciate how much time, effort and energy (and cash) that you put into this! 🧡
My husband and I like the Miyoko's Oatmilk butter, buuuut, my son doesnt. He likes the Country Crock. We get both, but I do find myself using the Country Crock more in general.
I've used the Country Crock olive oil butter sticks and found they worked quite well. Used them in making cinnamon rolls and in making cookies and both desserts turned out great!
i love when you do these! thank you! Earth Balance is like the nice guy that you always go back to. :)
I buy the Country Crock Olive Oil and Almond Oil plant butters and I enjoy them a lot. I use them in a ton of meals/recipes.
I like the earth balance. It’s not overly soft and it taste natural not plasticky or artificial.
What is your recipe for your single serve cookies??
I love this. Such a great resource!
Thank you!!
Great video. Thanks! My first foray into plant-based butter last week (Kerrygold butter & Brie cheese were my last holdouts😭), I picked up some
Miyoko. For $1.99. After watching this I’m heading to the store to stock up if it’s still on sale!😄
It’s not Kerrygold, but it’s good.
You guys did a great job, especially Sarah for putting all of this together!
Get you a man that calls you "Butter Goddess"
This was great! Thanks for doing all that work. I've only used Earth Balance and OG regular Miyokos and for baking I like to use Miyokos. I find that it's less greasy, the consistency is better and finished products taste better than Earth Balance. 💞🧁🍰🍪
this is so incredibly helpful
i am very sensitive to that 'fishy' taste, which especially comes out when baking butter-forward recipes, like toffee. my research shows that it is omega-3-heavy oils/nuts that cause this flavor, but i've yet to find one that doesn't have that problem
looks like califia was a contender, but it is discontinued. still looking for 'the one' with no fishy flavor
thank you for this!
Tbh for baking coconut oil is probably better than any vegan butter. Just our opinion 😁🌱
Can watch you guys taste testing anything for any period of time. Looooove it!!
I'm so glad you went all out and even baked with all of them! Very helpful!
