you can't just let rebellious vassals go, you need to make an example of them. revoke their titles first so they have less resources then ransom them off so you can bulk yourself up.
The last Basilius was actually a chad. Gets blinded by measles as a kid, loses his grandmother as she acts as his guardian, has a random Bedouin Manichean replace her, and somehow becomes the most beloved ruler in generations
@@TotallyNotASIO but as you can see playing as the byzantine is a huge pain as your vassals (even if they like you, unless they are your friend or allied to you) would always join a claimant faction no matter what because of the greek culture.
@@mirkcurry5532 I really hopr in the byzantine dlc they split greek up, not only is it just not true all of anatolia was greek, its just bad to play. Oh and you cant make a divergent culture as a byzantine vassal without 50 other people converting for no reason which is not fun
Your first combat victory was the most historically accurate portrayal of The Battle of Thermopylae. Your 10 knights killed 1,000 enemies and the only vassal/knight that died was governor of historical Sparta.
This is the true byzantine experience every time I play there every 5 years like 6 factions will declare war on me, its pain but worth it to create the roman empire
this is my first playthrough in ck3 and the easiest solution on the Seljuk problem is just marrying your family member for alliance with HRE or France, or Poles just do all options to defeat Seljuks as fast as you can, make sure to defeat them on the enforce demand because that'll make Alp Arslan unpopular and the Seljuks oftentimes implode after those predicaments
That looks just like my casual ck3 gameplay - always the people in my realm declare war on me and then poof- 20 ingame years are passing with revolts into revolts and maybe 2 or 3 characters later
As a longtime fan this might just be your funniest video haha amazing. Also as an Avid East Roman fan, this is a pretty typical experience, they can be a lot of fun to play especially in CK2 where this is the norm every generation
30:04 lmao I always check in on Byzantium and either the Abassids or the Seljuks periodically throughout my runs and I swear like 70% of my games there’s a half Nubian basileus at some point
playing as the Byzantines is intimidating to me... until I remember that I can continuously max out my dread by castrating a few nobodies in my prison. then im playing as the Byzantines AS intimidating to THEM
i died laughing on this one. damm the challenge of the byzantines always betraying each other endlessly was so damm funny to me. one of the best video you have made in a long time koifish.
I actually loved the first half of the episode and I was really rooting for ya.... as much as I enjoy your viking adventures this was fun... till you broke.... sad face.
Koi as a Greek i really enjoyed your video pal , amazing work and i would suggest you go have a look at 1202 A.D regarding the civil war in Byzantine Empire , same as your video 🤣🤣
Going through a horrible set of civil wars for ages until reaching a golden age of expansion and peace under a charismatic and young blind emperor is pretty kino, Koifish
That's one way to play Byzantium. Should've created kingdoms with the German blackmail money and given the titles to Dukes with good stats that also like you. That way all the factions disappear and you get powerful counselors with good stats.
Chagri means "call" in Turkish as in "you have a call". It is also my middle name (Çağrı with Turkish letters, ç -> ch, I don't know how to explain ğ, it is like soft g).
Play as a Seljuk Beg Suleyman and conquer Anatolia and create the Kingdom of Rum. İt is historically accurate and a hard chalenge. His lands near to border of Byzantium north of the Syria.
So no shameful battle of Manzikert in this timeline, just the battle of Theodosiopolis for the history books One that future historians will use to make doom alternative scenarios of the conflict
I’ve never played a lengthy campaign starting as the byzantines I always got bored in 867 coz there was nothing to do but I did start as wales and end up being the emperor by accident I think I married into the family matrilineally and when that guy was up to be the basilleus it switched or something 😂
Being a Swede, I respect your knowledge of the USA nuances like Bama cousins and what not lol although it is a joke, it is true as well 😂 hello from the heart of America; Missouri!

Not playing Hastings is pain...
what about the hæstening saga mr fish 😢
I usually surrender on that, the lord holding the duchies is pain to the ass and will rebel anyway😂😂
it seems to me that koifish is one step closer to relapsing on the haesteinn addiction after this video
you can't just let rebellious vassals go, you need to make an example of them. revoke their titles first so they have less resources then ransom them off so you can bulk yourself up.
2 years of fight with seldjuk
7658 years whit his vassals
The player-led Byzantine experience
Least eventful Byzantine game
Classic Eastern Rome
Bro survived the Seljuks as Byzantium, while I can't survive the Seljuks even when I am the Seljuks 😭
This is such a vibe
Tbh i think thts harder 😂
Dude was doing God's work
What the hell
Literally I played the Seljuks as the First Nation I played and it literally took 4 minutes and my realm revolted and I lost
Koifish: Now is the best time to play as the Byzantine Empire.
Byzantium DLC:
he knows Paradox will make it as bad as Legends & Lesions
@@matveykurland7012 It'll probably be at least a bit better, I hope. Also Legends and Lesions is a way better name imo.
today 631 years ago the byzantine empire fell

I was about to say, isn’t this the first time Koifish plays as the byzantines, and yeah immediately confirmed
I was about to say that I don’t like starting as large nations and I like counts and very small dukes but he just said it then.
@@TotallyNotASIO but as you can see playing as the byzantine is a huge pain as your vassals (even if they like you, unless they are your friend or allied to you) would always join a claimant faction no matter what because of the greek culture.
Didn’t he become the Byzantines as Kyiv?
@@Hugo_Mendez never _started_ as the byzantines, but yes he did become emperor as dyre (or his son, cant remember which)

Smart of you to upload this video because today 571 years ago the Byzantine Empire fell
Feels like yesterday 😢
that chaotic civil war in the middle is the average byzantine ck3 experience
The biggest enemy of the Byzantine is the Byzantine
Or CK2 experience lol
Yeah when he was saying how fun it was i knew this would end up happening 😭
Your first combat victory was the most historically accurate portrayal of The Battle of Thermopylae. Your 10 knights killed 1,000 enemies and the only vassal/knight that died was governor of historical Sparta.
That's crazy
The thing most people don't know about it is that inside problem is much more than seljuks in 1066 Byzantium
This is the true byzantine experience every time I play there every 5 years like 6 factions will declare war on me, its pain but worth it to create the roman empire
Glory to the Empire!
Here I was expecting the Byzantines begging Hæsteinn to be saved.

The desperation in Koifish's voice at 28:36 is so damn hilarious i'm laughing my ass off 😂😂
My man funded 5 civil wars with german gold he got from blackmail. I love ck3.
That looks just like my casual ck3 gameplay - always the people in my realm declare war on me and then poof- 20 ingame years are passing with revolts into revolts and maybe 2 or 3 characters later
It happened to all of us.
A lost civil war is not the end.
You can always lick your wounds and reclaim the empire later.
And that why you always take away the land of rebellious vassels. Otherwise it never stops.
*goes on a pilgrimage with 8billion danger*
Why I die? :(
As a longtime fan this might just be your funniest video haha amazing.
Also as an Avid East Roman fan, this is a pretty typical experience, they can be a lot of fun to play especially in CK2 where this is the norm every generation
How fucking dope would it be, to still have a state today that is straight up the continuation of the Roman Empire?
30:04 lmao I always check in on Byzantium and either the Abassids or the Seljuks periodically throughout my runs and I swear like 70% of my games there’s a half Nubian basileus at some point
Koifish really made a video where all he did was essentially just survive and leave the realm close to where he found it 😭
This is already a pretty big achievement for a Byzantine ruler.
That was great! I hope you'll continue this adventure by retaking some old roman lands!
playing as the Byzantines is intimidating to me... until I remember that I can continuously max out my dread by castrating a few nobodies in my prison. then im playing as the Byzantines AS intimidating to THEM
This is the most severe punishment haesteinn put on you
just the average byzantine experience
29:57 Maximos Doukas, the Hellenic Homeboy
Now play as Hæsteinn and become the Byzantine Emperor.
i died laughing on this one. damm the challenge of the byzantines always betraying each other endlessly was so damm funny to me. one of the best video you have made in a long time koifish.
The best games seem to attract the best UA-camrs, awesome stuff!
I was expecting him to take over the Eastern Roman via Viking conquest XD
True Byzantine experience right here 😂😂. Great video, Koifish!
So… will we see Koifish start as Byzantines in 867 and speedrun restoring Rome? Maybe play as a Roman culture custom count or Duke in Athens?
Excellent as always.
“My name is Koifish, and I literally cannot wait for the Eastern Roman/Landless DLC in Q3”
Same, my fish….same
Hello Koifish Could you form the Ottoman Empire in your video. I think that would be fun to watch. Love your work man
I literally thought this was promo for the upcoming Byzantine DLC 😭😭

It is a true historical fact that the Byzantine Empire has never had any troubles capturing or keeping hold of Rome
I would love to hear Koifish do the “Yale-Yob” joke😆
Thank you for the video koifish
oof I actually thought this was an ad for the new CK3 byzantium DLC :y but that probably wont release until autumn huh
Half the fun of CK3 is going from rags to riches
The other hald is to become a witch and eat the pope :)
This was fun! Thanks!
Kip played as Haesteinn so much he referred the Fatimids as the Tulunids lol
Every time when i hear a greek word from non-greek, I'm having heart attack.
its first time ive seen Koifish tweaking 😂
This almost broke Koifish, and it was a riot watching it happen 🤣
hold control when you raise your forces instead of trying to unite them after.....

Survived the Seljuk Invasion. Can not survived the Greek Revolutions.
What is that menu at 7:25 is that a mod or part of a dlc?
"why do the gods curse me"
Maybe cuz there's one, and He's angry with you
Is the screen we see at 6:42 a mod or something? :O
This video should be named "I heard you like war" :D
hey baby I heard you like war, well I'm a byzantine succession
11:36 Would you do this for one million dollars? 🎅🎅🎅🥕🐡🐡
I was just playing a matilda of tuscany to roman empire run and the Byzantines survived on their own (the seljuks collapsed, possibly my fault)
In classic Roman fashion, the Roman's greatest enemies are, in fact, other Romans
Koifish does not play Haestinn?
Is Koifish safe? Is he alright?
Haesting is still lost in the future. May take him a while to find his way back,
Form the seljuk Empire from 867 with Haesting ? I know its not an actual choice but man that would be dope .
The most important thing, it's says the Cuk instead of Seljuk in subtitles.

The end shot with the book tho... xD
31:30 something about the sins of the father?
OHHHHHHHHHH I UNDERSTAND...I ALWAYS PLAY AS BASILEUS AND I USED TO THINK THAT EVERY VASSAL WOULD JOIN FACTIONS NO MATTER WHAT COUNTRY YOU PLAY AS...

Is it a mod that allows you to see battle details during the battle or is it a setting I'm missing?
How do you get the screen at 6m39? I've always wanted to see who's doing what in battles.
Truly the Golden Disaster Empire.
So no shameful battle of Manzikert in this timeline, just the battle of Theodosiopolis for the history books

I survived the Seljuks as Byzantines 1 month after CK3 release
Did this guy just remake history

I'm currently in the midst of a campaign as the Komnenoi and oh my fucking god playing as the Byzantines SUCKS
The Doukas dynasty gave me SO MUCH FUCKING TROUBLE constantly claiming the Byzantine throne it was such a pain.
