- In "Junk In The Trunk", local tree cutter Tim Burr arrives for his snowblower only to find out he has too much junk in his trunk! After the intro and before the ending, Taryl goes over the proper way to replace the ring gear on your Briggs & Stratton flywheel. This works for the single cylinder as well as the opposed twin flywheel. I didn't think you could get parts for the opposed"L"-head twins anymore Taryl and Junior, excellent video guys!!.
Ebay or Briggs. Just get the numbers.
Thank you some much for these videos. I have successfully removed the ring gear and have the kit on order to replace. I really appreciate your humor as well, you make it fun and informative. I didn't have the correct disc for my "whizzer-wheel", which is totally what I am calling it from now on, but I found a good flat head or chisel and a hammer knocked the ends off cleanly as well.
Another great video Taryl keep em coming
Well enjoyed!
I need to replace the top magneto pulley on my dads Honda HRU217D lawnmower (GSV190 engine) because I accidentally cracked it,I was trying to check the compression with the exhaust rocker arm removed by winding it over with an impact wrench & it cracked because it was aluminium & I didn't realize it had that much compression.
Luckily, they don't cost that much to order from New York (about $30 AUD),I did order a set of 014 rings for a later model engine as the original ones are the 004 rings, his is the very first of the GSV190 engines (2003) & the rings are not interchangeable between pistons.
I still may give it a leakdown test when I buy the tester online as it sometimes burns oil,but I think it will need new rings as they still may be a bit worn, the leakdown tester will come in handy on my Briggs 3hp mower as it smokes a tiny bit.
I'll need to order the newer piston & oil seals when I get a job which makes it cheaper than trying to chase up the original 004 rings which are no longer available from Honda, only whatever of the 004's are old stock & more expensive.
I had to be careful ordering the magneto pulley because the horizontal shaft GSV190 engines came with a cast iron magneto whereas the vertical shaft models have an aluminium one.
Nice job guys! =)
Do you have a video on rebuilding the carb. on a B&S 16 HP. Vanguard V Twin engine . Very expensive carb !
This can't be my dinner,... Cause I'm eating breakfast n drinkin coffee. Dinner ain't till 6:00 or so ..lol

The last time I came this quickly, I ended up with a child support payment.
But hurt a little 😂😂😂 have some humor!
Hello thanks for the flywheel removal info. I have a 14 h p vanguard motor with a big nut on top of the flywheel. What size socket do they mostly take?
I deal with customers like that all of the time. They either never bring the proper vehicle for what they’re wanting to load or it’s crammed full of crap. Common sense isn’t so common any more. 🤦♂️
Another very informative and hilarious video all packed into one! I enjoyed this one a lot!
Sir, Taryl. There is a need, for a piece, of railroad track, 3 feet long, UNDER YOUR BENCH. Weld 2 inch pipe, onto it, at an angle, so to make a sawhorse type of thing. Re-design, the bench, over this on the FRONT edge. NO more 'bouncing betties'. i got several, as well as other track stuff. Handy for stands, for lights, grinders, etc.
When the snowblower fell out of the car. That made my day
With all those numbers, I got Ring Gear Bingo... What do I win?
How'd Jasmine get there! Lol. Looks just like her years ago. Thanks for the vid.

Great episode as always Taryl, hilarious when the snowblower fell out of the car!
I had a fella one time he tied a rope to the snowblower and hauled it with his car to my shop
Pry bar and hammer is the way we’ve always done it. Is it the space shuttle and we’re going to the moon. The best.
Like he says ,its a taper, haha ,the space shuttle
LMAO. Taryl and the gang do the best short comedy videos. My family and I love you guys.
If you’re replacing a plastic ring gear on a Briggs Intek V-twin there’s a real likelihood that you’ll break the thing getting it on. While contemplating why Briggs ignored the decades-long practice of machining a reliable flywheel/ring gear out of steel, do this with your Intek gear job:
1. With a wire wheel in a mini grinder, clean the place where the gear sits until it shines.
2. With a sanding disk in the grinder, chamfer the edge the gear must fit over.
3. Using a dead-blow hammer, start to CAREFULLY tap the gear into place on one edge while making sure it is aligned over the holes on the flywheel. Install one of the attaching screws to ensure correct alignment.
4. With a heat gun, warm the gear while slowly tapping it into place until it is fully seated.
Naturally, you can use hand tools (wire brush, file, emery cloth) in lieu of a grinder. And maybe your gear will slip off and on. But mine didn’t, and safely getting it on required all the above steps, during which I had a better idea of why Briggs filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July 2020.
clean the flywheel and freeze overnight that helps alot
Taryl! Stop beating on the flywheel! Stop It! Stop It! Stop It! You're going to ruin the engine by beating on it. Stop It!
And, you asked to show you just what happens when you go beating on the flywheel. Well, here it is: ua-cam.com/video/noY-Sd0DZqM/v-deo.html

what is the recoil rope length on a sears craftsman snow trower
Can the ring gear be replaced on a v twin briggs and stratton?
Leaving the trash don’t surprise me at all
I’m currently doing this job and I’ve stabbed my left hand three times taking off that c clip. I got it done though. Thanks Taryl
Those clips really suck for sure
In NZ that kit would cost $150
Its 9am...and theres your breakfast!
A sharp chisel cuts those rivets with a whack or two. Great video.
could you use a used one off another flywheel?
If it's the same size and teeth. Count the teeth on the old one and measure it good.
HaHaHa....I saw that ending coming. Great job, Guys.
Gotta love when every customer thinks you have an extra hour to waist
Now, I wonder can you buy the bolts separately, I have a good fly wheel gear, but the bolts filled.
Do you lay awake at night thinking of this stuff ?
Taryl, can you replace a flywheel on a john deere 826 snow king engine? My JD dealer say no.
Working retail I couldn't tell ya how many times I've had to help someone load something only to see their car or truck full of crap and they'd be looking at me like something is wrong on my end.
Taryl Steven Spielberg better watch out !!! love you man keep up good work !!!!!
People who are afraid of whacking a part in mechanical work don't know ford wrenches come in multiple weights.
You don't use the BFH where the MFH is suited.
The LFH is for light tapping.
If its electronic, you use the handle of a _ucking Snap-on screwdriver.
You help it understand you're not playing, but you don't need to pummel it into a new shape.
Whack!
Like TARYLS crankshaft videos.
Its not rocket science.
Good Instructional. Owner needs a new starter bendix now.
👍
Recently found your channel ! Really enjoying the vids it must take ages to film and edit great work !
It does take time editing. Terrible tragedy this year one of taryl dear family members died. He use to do editing for the taryl show. Anyway they carried on.
@@brianw4brian how did you know this i dony remember hearing this
@@hunter7476 it was posted and had a memorial to him. poor guy sudden death thing
Just $.50 a day could keep this from happening? Poor Ernie the snowblower.😢
Do they makum for Tecumseh 10hp, from about mid 90's I need to put electric starter on generator!! Can I just put a ring gear on the stock flywheel! I have seen 120v starters for snow blower engines like this, bit I'm not interested in that, if I need to start it. I don't have 120v!!
Hi,I'm looking for a flywheel for Kohler 26hp number on bottom 20-300-04 H, (some doorknob tried brazing ring gear together )
Ain't no problem, I once put a ducati 350 street bike in the trunk of my 71 plymouth fury. Get er done......course the trunk on the fury is bout as big as a short bed pick up, lol.......
7:13 the inspector is inspecting Taryls work 🤔
Thank you. I was just given an old LawnBoy that is in fantastic condition except the old plastic ring gear is completely shot.
I got a 22hp kawasaki off a cubcadet rtz 50 in zero turn the ring gear is split in half I can't find a ring gear anywhere help me Terry!!
How much you spent for special tools for B&S engines?? They sponsored you or not?? Taryl??
And nexttime, how to replace the flywhile on a briggs Ringgear? 🤣🤣🤣
That trick to remove the flywheel never works, I pried and banged and it didn't budge, I suspect they remove it first then put it back on and then record it to make it look easy.
I don’t actually live too far away from your shop, I just learned how to fix my own equipment by videos thank you
another classic for the vault
Is there a music video for the background hillbilly jam?
Poor little blade man. You scared it. Taryl bad, real scary. :)
What's the part number for the clip you didn't mention in case we're just replacing starter gear
What up T ...
Good video as always
any ideals on a motor blowing fuse after starting kohler motor
The reason why my starter gear brakes is because I have too much tension on the engine pulley! Because the snow blower!
Breakfast time! 🍳
I have a problem with my riding lawn mower attached a snowblower I have it working but when I go to start it it breaks the starter gear 16 tooth ! Could I change the ring gear to a steal and the starter to steal 14 tooth
Should'nt do that Taryl! Your gonna wreck it!!!
When did all the snow go? Your front looks nice in the sunshine.
I was laughing pretty good at the end of this one! Take care guys.
thanks for that video your a lifesaver much appreciated.
I have a friend who owns an armature shop if I can't manage the starter gear I'm sure he can do it for me, it would be worth it.
What advice can you give me on choosing alternative carburetors to run a twin carburettor setup on the Briggs 20HP opposed twin engine. My engine has had engine porting and i would like to increase the intake airflow over the restrictive standard carburettor.
I couldn't breathe just put bolts in it to start with be way easier than doing all that but I guess it's there cheapness
The wood roach sucks bad skit good info on the flywheel and starter
Awesome video as always. Seems like it just started and is over already, hate waiting another week. Hey it looks like wood roach is with my ex now, sure looks like her car these days. Lol
I was able to reproduce these results using two kittens. Came out the same.
PMSL !!!
I'm watching this in case at some point in the next 50 years I have to do this
That guys car is just like mine lol
You'll also want to clean the alternator/stator magnets after you clean the mating surface and make sure no magnets are damaged or loose wile you're at it.
Should have strapped it to the top or hood! I have seen people do it at Home depot!!🤓
Great video thanks taryl and the gang
i sure love them taryl vids . keep up the good work !
I think you're talking about a boxer style engine at the start of the video.
Or a VW 1600cc
@@jhitt79 that's a boxer style engine.
Sid Walker I had to look it up, as I never knew that the horizontal opposed piston engine was a "boxer style." I thought you were referring to the Porsche Boxer.
Interesting.

The lawnmower repair shop here in Elmira, NY should be watching this video, for good reasons
I clicked on this this afternoon, and there were 90 views. Paused the video, and just came back to it, then clicked LIKE and refreshed the vid. It's 11:30pm and it's up to 11k views now, WOW.
They should just use screws in the first place
Taryl, I'm a long time subscriber. I know I set the governor the right way when I rebuilt the engine, but now I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between a governor noise and a surging carburetor. They seem to do the same thing. CAN that governor arm going to the slinger be replace? I need HELP
The question is could I flywheel from plastic to metal? Is there a kit to convert plastic to metal? And if have the part number kit! Thanks for your video I have learned a lot!
That's it Taryl, you can sell a line of attaching utility platforms for carrying power equipment that install in a small drawbar hitch at their rear bumper !
Awesome !
You can get everybody hooked up with the right accessories to do their job, they can remove them from the hitch when not in use !
That's it ! Eureka ! I can see it all now.
hey, yall do a skit like counting cars
good job grass rats
You don't need torque specs.. All you need to know is that you keep tightening until the bolt goes from hard to turn to easy to turn, when you feel that transition. Stop. It's easy.
I've never seen a snow blower before
Did that ring gear have a very shiny nose?
🤣🤣🤣🤣 The Wood Roach 😀👍🏼 There’s My Brunch Taryl 🤤🤤🤤🤤 Ummmm Yummy
could you press those out or would be a pain
Taryl is the one smart man!!!!
