    Great points. Some feedback? All the loud sound effects really distracted me from what you were saying. Maybe lower volume on those and less obnoxious sounds? Sensitive folks might not be able to watch at all. I’ve loved your other videos though

    Thank you for this video. I've used Squarespace and Wix for a long time and prefer the chic look of Squarespace. I've also waited years for them to create this drag & drop feature that comes with Engine, which makes building so much simpler.
    I really hate, however, the fact that you basically have to start from scratch to switch your current site to 7.1 and edit with Engine. I chatted with a customer service rep earlier who basically said "your only option is to start over." I really want to know who was in that room when planning this upgrade. I'm hoping they change how 7.0 sites upgrade to 7.1.

      I know, I wish they did this better!!!! Def. check out the www.squarewebsites.org/ extension, it can copy/paste nearly all your content to 7.1 with a few clicks and a small fee! :)

    Thank you for this video! I'm intrigued as to why nobody is being transparent about the cost jump and what that cost actually is between 7.0 and 7.1. I would love to know this before even considering the switch, notably because the costs for Canadians are higher with conversion which is brutal!

    • @meetdavidalex
      @meetdavidalex  2 роки тому +1

      Glad it was helpful! And yes, it is more expensive for yah with the Canadian dollar! Best of luck

    I'm glad I watched this video again. I've been wanting to niche down my photography portfolios and I may create 2 new 7.1 sites so I can niche down some of my photography or if I can just figure out a way for each portfolio/gallery to get as much traffic as the index page I had on my 7.0 Flatiron. I think I like the versatility that Bedford had rather than Flatiron. What I discovered from my analytics and from feedback from other people that when they see the Flatiron index page, they think that is your entire portfolio and they don't click on the thumbnails to view the gallery each thumbnail represents. I actually designed a site better for my Dad than I did for myself because I had to learn 7.0 first and then I helped him with his site 😆

    There used to be a blog import function where you could import from a non-squarespace blog to your new site. Does that exist in 7.1 and can it be used to move your version 7 blog to 7.1?

    • @meetdavidalex
      @meetdavidalex  2 роки тому +1

      Great question. I believe it still exists in 7.1, but it doesn't work to import from 7.0... I know, not the best user experience. BUT, try this plugin... you can use the subscription for a month and import your blog: www.squarewebsites.org/squarespacewebsites-tools-extension-pro

      I saw where someone on a UA-cam video exported their 7.0 blog to I think it was Word Press that Squarespace allows you to export to, so they exported to a free WP site and then they imported it from Word Press to 7.1

    Hey there, thank you for the tips! I have checked the squarewebsite link but cannot find the specific plugin you were speaking of. Would you be so kind as to send the exact link? or maybe that plugin doesn't exist anymore? My website on 7.0 has over 200 pages and complex index landing pages so we are sweating thinking about the conversion, but feel it's about time! Thanks again!

    • @meetdavidalex

      Yes! Once you click on the link - click on Chrome Extension (Pro) in the main navigation!! That is the plugin I'm referring to!

    Thank you for this helpful video. Although I've had my Squarespace 7.0 website for 6yrs now, I'm only just beginning my business so I'm happy to migrate manually to build my website from scratch on 7.1. I'm a little confused how it works. If I start a trial on 7.1, do I still have access to my 7.0 website? Once the trial has ended and I choose a plan, I'm assuming I move my domain to the 7.1 version and will no longer have access to the 7.0 website? And I'm assuming I need to cancel my previous plan? Sorry for the questions lol. I really appreciate your video and help.

    It's absolute insanity that Squarespace didn't build a 7->7.1 migration feature for us. I can't even imagine what they are thinking.

    This was some great insight into this topic!!
    We have our website on Squarespace right now, and have been considering refreshing it, so maybe this is the sign for us to do that!
    The task of having to recreate everything manually is a bit of a drag though for sure!! 😔
    We have about 10~ pages on our site, plus a little over 30 blog posts.
    Is there no way to copy say some html/code or even an RSS feed (for the blog stuff) to make the "migration process easier? Squarespace missed a big opportunity here!

      Glad it was helpful! Yes, we are going to write an article on this soon and with the new fluid engine update, it's more important than ever to move from 7.0 to 7.1! Use this plugin to do the move: www.squarewebsites.org/squarespacewebsites-tools-extension-pro You can get the subscrpition for a month and do the move and go from there, espeically for your blog. For your pages, I'd recommend recreating them all as the new style editor is amazing and gives you more options.

      Manually- there is no way to do to autoantically. You can use the square websites extension to do it if you have a lot of content.

I thought 7.1 might be the answer. My site is www.KarenVaismanPhotography.com if you have any suggestions. Thanks 🙏

    QUESTION: my biggest concern (aside from all the work to migrate 7.0 site to 7.1) is LOSS OF SEO, I have lots of older pages that I don't really use anymore but I keep live because they do still draw in decent google search traffic -- SHOULD I BE CONCERNED ABOUT LOSING THIS if I migrate to 7.1??? 🤷‍♂

      No, just recreate them with the SAME URL on the new site and you should be good :)

    I think is really shitty what squarespace did, on creating a whole new platform and hey didn't even bother to migrate the customers that already have a plan with them. There is no technical justification to do that. And they not only didn't updated the old platform, they removed a lot of capabilities silently. i just have an issue with a client that I have designed their site in Squarespace by my recommendation, and now that they asked me to redesign it, everything is changed and now my client has to spend again more money to move to the new platform, that's just shitty business, I wont recommend Squarespace at all

    • @meetdavidalex
      @meetdavidalex  Рік тому +1

      Hi Bob! Totally understand your frustration. I'm not Squarespace and can't tell you why they did it but there is another side to this - they didn't force everyone to change. It's very demanding for software companies just to continually change their user experience, especially for people who do have everything they need. Also, I have a few videos on this but the migration literally can be done in 30 minutes. It's not expensive and it's quite worthwhile for businesses to do it manually, as the look and feel and options are way more customizable. Here is a video that helps you walk through it: ua-cam.com/video/PtS54TUTG_M/v-deo.html

    I've watched a few of your videos now and your audio is so bad. Please watch some videos on recording audio so your videos aren't so hard to watch. I mean that in a constructive way. People will put up with bad video but they won't put up with bad audio which is why I'm clicking off this video early. There are some amazing tutorials on recording clear audio on UA-cam :)

    And when Squarespace moves to 7.2? And 7.3, etc? You’ll do it all over again and lose all your comments all over again. WP and Ghost don’t have this issue.

    • @meetdavidalex
      @meetdavidalex  Рік тому

      Sure, fair point. I see 7.1 being the platform of choice for the next 3-5 years for sure as it's just way more robust than any older platforms they built in terms of scalability for the size of the company and it's growth strategy.
