Wow, this is helpful. I was petrified to try a different theme because I didn't want it to blow away all my content. Reassuring to know that I can try out the new template without it losing my content.

One question : while we set up the new template, it is not live until we click on the button, so during the change, our readers can still see the old template ? I was so afraid changing my template all alone, really. But now I'm enough confident to do that alone, but I will play this video at each stage :p Thank you so much for this content
Great video, Thanks for your help. See, the big problem I have with this is that you have to download a separate thing in order to save it all. Squarespace should have a demo version of your website where you can fix everything, save draft, etc. Then when you're ready to make it live for everything, have a button that allows that. Instead of farting around like this. I mean it isn't rocket science, you'd think they'd know that! XD
Hey Laia! It isn't the same process! For 7.1, all templates have the same features and abilities so it's more a matter of changing the design and customizing the site in "site styles" 🙂With 7.0, not all templates had the same features which is why there had to e a switch! Essentially, now it's easier 🙌 I hope that helps clarify!
Hi, Nice tutorial, I have question as I am new to squarespace. Can we import template as zip file to squarespace 7.0? Is there is something like this in squarespace? I have design template (UNEARTH_TEMPLATE DESIGN PACK_7.0.zip) with inner folder 1. Step 03 2. Step 04 3. Step 05 4. Step 07
Hey there! Unfortunately I don't believe this is possible at this time! However, you can reach out to Squarespace to double-check this or to see if they have a workaround! You can jump on a live chat with them here: support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/requests/new#choose-topic 😃
Hi Laurie! Squarespace has updated so this may look a little different if you are using Squarespace 7.1! However, once your site goes live you can still make edits to your site. 🙂
I don't want to switch templates. I want to start with the one I've chosen - from scratch. Is this possible? I've messed up and can't find a way to start over : (
Hey! Yes, this is possible! You have a few different options 🙂You can learn more here: support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/205815378-Starting-over xx
Do you know if switching templates alters the google result placement for a website? I've spent a lot of time getting mine to appear the first result for certain keywords, so I don't want to mess things up by making a switch.
Thank you for this and all your helpful tips! If I'm tweaking the new template over a few days (vs doing it all at once), will Squarespace save the settings in Preview Mode?
I wish you posted this earlier. I spent all day doing things "the hard way" with no guide to show me what to do. If you're thinking of switching templates just get this PDF. It'll save you hours of work and guessing
Oh no!! Okay, sorry for the terrible timing! But thank you for the kind words about the PDF. Let me know if there is anything else you need help with :)
Do you know if it's possible to have unique sidebars to appear on different blogs? I have several blogs on my site and any change I make to one sidebar carries over to the others =\
logan walsh Some of templates have multiple sidebars! What pages are you trying to use a sidebar on? Because that is pretty easy to "fake" with blocks! Let me know :)
Hey! Unfortunately this tutorial is only for 7.0 sites! All new Squarespace sites are on Squarespace 7.1 and it's not possible to change templates with those. Instead, all Squarespace templates are made from the same "family" which means that you can piece them together using Squarespace's pre-made "sections" 🙂 Alternatively, if you haven't done much work with you website yet, then you could start over simply by going to Squarespace's homepage and selecting a new site to have on your dashboard! I hope this helps!!
@@louisehenryMy site is live and published so I don't really want to go the route of starting again if it means paying more money for a different template. My issue is I want my website to have a navigation bar that's vertical on the left hand side like the Wells style template from 7.0. Can't seem to find a good guide on editing my homepage to implement this feature. Someone offered a plugin for such but didn't want to pay what they were asking and the ghostplugin vertical navigation didn't work for me.
Hi Kimberly! You can definitely change the colours on your Squarespace template! Go to design > colors and from here you can change the colour palette to whatever 3 colours best suit your brand! Then, as you are editing your site, you can edit each section individually to match the colour palette. You can do all of this in the preview mode before going live, too. I hope this helps! 🙂
In version 7.1 you can't switch templates but you can use page layouts to design your page extensively. Here's a pages tutorial for version 7.1 ua-cam.com/video/agOsdilhZVY/v-deo.html

I believe it will yes. Maybe do a few checks w/ a few small changes first just to be sure!

Excellent. Thank you. Very helpful.
You're very welcome!!

Can you revert back to your old page if things do not work out?
Some settings will have changed on the original version, so no. If you're unsure of the switch, I would play around with the preview mode first.
Thank for this tutorial, so great for me !! :D
