I'm with you on that. But we're more global now than ever....so at the same time, it makes sense to consider the now wider audience around the world. Still...I didn't think converting them into an "International" force for the live action movie was really necessary.
well done, and good work bro I started with AT early 70s, and was 13 in 82, when you start to care more about your things I got the mobat and Stalker, then, got the rest of the catalog - collection Cobra was officers and troopers, CC only available by mail man, they had no chance. but I piled them up and they mostly stole Joes vehicles - weapons 83 arrived new stuff, and made things more equal I thought it completed the line well, I had no idea that Hasbro would release more, and kill characters over time, I figured those poor guys that can t get Hawk, the leader, and others... now I m in classified, and those are 'expansive enterprises' here in Can, $40 - 50 a pop... so I m going for the original 82 - 83 + exceptions, Nunchuk , Shooter. my vision of the Joes is more tv A - team - mission impossible, but military elite, heroic 10 - 1 battle ratios, and why I needed so big a Cobra army in the 80s by buying all - completist this time, I m going for essential Cobras, CC, Baroness, Mindbender, Stormy, Firefly, Scrap iron, reg officers, troops, vipers, bats iron grenadier Destro and troops I like Cesspool, Overkill v - 1, and Headmaster and headhunters I suggested Hasbro for loose rams, jump packs sold in pairs on a charger, ferrets, snakes, and claws, + battle stations at fig price point like the old days affordable, refreshing, complementary for 6' figs so now you know... good show bro
Thanks so much! I myself m so tempted to move onto Classified and just like you concentrate on the OG13 mostly but I know myself and I know that I won't just stop there 😅
9:24 my husband who grew up and still owns classical stalker hated this update. He kit bashed the classified figure My husband who was 9 when the new stalker came out was severely unhappy with it. Living on air force bases most of his young life he said this figure was always in stocked at the BX (base shopping center) because other kids like himself hated it. My husband served in the military and earned his Green Beret serving in South Africa 🇿🇦 and to me he is my life size stalker. But this tundra stalker is still hated by my husband
I think i have to agree with my husband on this because when he kitbashed Stalker 1/12 he made him look very realistic even going as far as giving a rifle 1/12 scale my husband used during his service. All the new figures classified line he purchased along with valaverse him and our son made look like real world soldiers. Both versions of stalker released in 1989 didn’t peak my husband’s interests and talking to his friends who also joined the military didn’t really like the new designs too.
My first Joe was Short Fuze as well, loved that figure to death and when he broke, wasn't able to replace him. One of my favorite cartoon episodes is the two-parter with him and Grunt in it. I'd really like to see him return - in fact, I'd like to see the whole 3 3/4" line return (with the vehicles!) rather than continuing the Classified line.
My biggest regret was missing out on an opportunity the try and bid on a complete set of 82/83 OG figs on eBay long before vintage figs became so pricey. I believe it eventually sold for a little over 100USD 😭😭😭
Great video! I've always been surprised Rock 'N Roll got that many versions. And although Flash and Grand-Slam disappeared, I think their influence was seen throughout the entire line, with the XMLR-1A evolving into the XMLR-3A, becoming pretty much the standard G.I. Joe weapon in the animated shows.
I prefer Scarlett with Snake-Eyes. Their story in the comics and how they met and fell for each other is just fascinating and tragic. In fact Snake-Eyes origin story is intertwined with that relationship...@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf
@@KronnangDunn Yup! I also appreciate that relationship, and will readily admit is more developed and "real" than Duke and Scarlett, still...I'm a Duke guy ha ha so I'll ship and and Scarlett all day :)
Of the original 13?? My favorite would be Flash. He was the second figure that I got. He would be in contention with Grand Slam, but I never owned either of the two versions.
Hey same! Flash was also the second fig I got after Short Fuze! Sad he became kinda obsolete in the cartoons with everyone else sporting lasers as well 😅
Sorry, I know you love you some Stalker, but I’m a huge Beachhead fan. I too have been collecting since the beginning in ‘82 (first figure was Breaker). I’m generally fans of the originals more than there replacements (Clutch in particular) but Beachhead will always be my favorite. No offense to Stalker who was a very cool character in his own right
nice! I'm sure Ihe would've been one of mine had I still been collecting at that point. And I don't know..the term "mortar man" just sounds cooler than just plain old "mortar soldier" :)
If they do that, it would be game over for me! As a 3.75inch Joe collector, I’ve so far been able to resist the Classified temptation...the Original 13 would completely push me over the edge into another collecting rabbit hole 😅
When GI Joe first started until the mid 80’s were the best of times for them. Maybe there were some decent ones into the later 80s. Early on the looked like an actual fighting force. The started coming up with all of the stupid bright colors for the joes and cobra. So of the weapons were huge and brightly colored. It was so dumb. It was like they just got tired of making money. The first GIJoe thing I got was an accessory pack. My dad brought it home because my Star Wars figures someone gave me needed weapons. I had the second version of Snake Eyes. I dropped Timber on the sidewalk and his back foot broke off.
Yeah the toyline was a victim of it's own success, but in their quest to try and keep things fresh and exciting as well as keep up with all the new toys coming in, they definitely overdid it. Thing is looking back we can scoff at all the neon ninjas and oversized weapons, but at the time, that seemed like the way to go :)
Yup! that’s probably the reason :) still I believe he was killed off towards the later part of the series, so technically there was still time before that to release an update. But I guess the communications officer wasn’t exciting enough to update ha ha
What have been some of your favorite updates or replacements to the original thirteen Joes?
I loved that they were a real American hero. They will never do that in the movies because they focus on trying to cater to everyone.
I'm with you on that. But we're more global now than ever....so at the same time, it makes sense to consider the now wider audience around the world. Still...I didn't think converting them into an "International" force for the live action movie was really necessary.
I always liked the more realistic looking Joes. Grunt, Stalker, Clutch, Rock and Roll, and Snake Eyes were my favorites of the original 13.
While I was a fan, my favorite was Flash who added a little flair to the traditional "green man' with his red padding :)

Thanks! It's a nice notion to think that Flash's legacy carried on in the cartoon at the very least :)
In the comics continuity Scarlett is Snake-Eyes girlfriend. In the cartoon continuity is Duke.
Yup! And I belong to the less popular group of people who prefer Scarlett with Duke :) How about you?

I have Breaker and Dial-Tone hanging out together in my collection atm. And Flash and Sci-Fi. And Short-Fuse and Down Town. ;-P. XD

Great video brother, but let me be perfectly clear on this, goofy looking Sci-Fi version 1, could NEVER replace Flash, my first G.I. Joe!👍🏾
But but...all that neon! I just cannot resist! 😅😅😅

Alot of these are explained through the comics. For example, Breaker was killed off, hence no more figures

Does anyone remember having to mail order Duke? I got 2 of them
I believe he was initially offered as a mail in exclusive in 1983. I got him a year later when he came out in retail :)
im sure they have been recycled by now
