I’m glad she mentioned TTNG one of my favourite bands ever
Preach
The term “math rock” developed in the 1990s post-punk, post-hardcore underground. Just like the term “emo,” the label “math rock” was a pejorative; a diss. The singer of Dag Nasty mocked Rites of Spring for being “emo,” which meant that their lyrics and singing weren’t tough and macho like most 80s hardcore punk.
Similarly, “math rock” was used to describe post- punk and hardcore bands that were using complex time signatures and song structures. Emo kids would be like, “oh, you’re one of those ‘math rock’ bands. Do I need to get out my calculator to listen to your Music?”
Thus, original math rock was a species of 90s post-hardcore. Most of the bands today who call themselves math rock are not coming from that perspective, and really are more like jazz fusion.
If you want to check out original 1990s math rock, Don Caballero is a good place to begin. But also check out: Slint, Rodan, June of 44, Hoover, the Crownhate Ruin, Kerosene 454, Drive Like Jehu, Regulator Watts, Rumah Sakit, Glendale, and Lincoln. And Drill For Absentee (shameless self-promotion.) We were not a major band in that scene. But we were there and we played with nearly all of the great bands.
damn, just checked out DrillForAbsentee, great stuff.
Facts great comment
Im starting to know more about hardcore history, arent bands from the 90s already inspired by jazz? Not necessarily with jazz fusion sound but some songs that i listened have a lot of noise disonant melodies and odd times, theres even some trumpets "solos" in some songs
I listen more to pop math rock (more clean and melodic with long melodies) so if anyone can recomend me more bands that are more agrresive and dark

So she hates hard music, lame, she's definitely not a keeper.
How did you possibly get that from this
@zechs5079 She claims indie is more pleasant to listen to amd knocks harder music. She's a joke.
@@zechs5079sadly wierd incel comments are to expected on innocuous videos like this
@@zechs5079OP is why Yvette keeps making parody videos of men in the business.
She started talking and I got a headache.
