To me, the Klingon boy band was why they were so angry about their dishonor… if it made them sing Klingon Opera they shouldn’t have been so violently bothered
I found myself crying too, and I am a 61 year ole original fan. This episode like the whole of SNW is the best Trek in decades... It truly has the heart of what Trek is...
In TWOK Carol and Kirk briefly discuss why Carol ultimately chose not to have Kirk involved and from that scene it is made clear that Kirk knew all along about Carol’s pregnancy and David but chose to respect Carol’s wishes
@@JustSomeBodisOpinion It's implied in TWOK when Kirk said "Is that David?" to Carol before she had even introduced him after David attacked him and he only said that he was "Dr. Marcus". Also when he and Carol are talking he says to Carol "Why didn't you tell him?" (in regards to Carol not telling David that Kirk was his father) rather than "Why didn't you tell me?" (that she was pregnant) Basically she got pregnant, told Kirk to stay away from her and her son David as they weren't together and never told David that Kirk was his father until TWOK.
Because the writers and generally people on the show - unlike what some grumpy old fans proclaim - actually did an amazing job here. They still do... well, not right now, but you know what I mean. 😅
I'm an old fan. Ant like 20 years ago I would probably have hated it. I was confused by the idea, but I feel you. I was blown away by it. It's illogical. I know logically I shouldn't like the show as much as I do, but it just clicks with me. And this episode was fantastic.
Thats how I've felt lately I shouldn't love this show as much but its already feeling like TNG did. I can pop an episode on at anytime especially around bed time. I've missed this so much but it FEELS like star trek.
@@jordancrass4527 I love how much willing they are to experiment. That's what made Star Trek so fun to watch in the past (apart from the characters and the utopian vision); you could get anything with the next episode... a sci fi mystery, a courtroom drama, a submarine battle, a romance, a comedy, a tragedy, a coming of age story, an adventure,... you Name it. In a 2012 interview former Trek writer Said "Science Fiction isn't a subset of Storytelling, but a superset. You can tell almost any story in a science fiction setting."
I really liked this episode. Even if, as a German, I often had to pay attention to the subtitles of the English songs. I liked Uhura's song the best and I still whistle it to myself. 🥰🎶
This is literally the first soundtrack album I've purchased since Moulin Rouge! in 2001. Is this how people who actually like musicals feel all the time? I also started crying about halfway through and also didn't really understand why. SNW keeps knocking it out of the park.
Honestly I wasn't sure about it at first but as it went on some parts sold me on it. The Captain, OMG THE KLINGONS LOL I lost it so funny. Some ppl really surprised me with their beautiful voices...
@@JustSomeBodisOpinion Funny thing is, the actor behind the main Klingon was Bruse Horwick(sp??) the guy who played Hemmer, so we in effect had him back for this episode!!!
I know you don't have a lot of deep TOS knowledge - That fellowship with Dr Korby leads to them getting engaged which is fleshed out in the episode: What Are Little Girls Made Of?
The Klingons singing K-pop was the best part of the episode, though Kirk's, to Spock, 'I almost understood that' was second. I also liked the Kirk/La'An bits as well.
Poor La'an, she got the baby mama brush off. Meanwhile, a couple weeks ago, Jimbo was latched onto Nyota like that flying jellyfish will be to Sam Kirk. She punched him clean down to the ground and he still followed her around the ship like a lost puppy.
I liked your reaction to this episode Star Trek. And I would be interested to see your reactions to the films Robocop and Robocop 3. These films are my favorite and the best in the franchise.
If you could hear the singing well, UA-cam could hear the singing, and if it did, I wouldn’t be able to upload with all the copyright flags 😭 had to err on the side of caution unfortunately
BROTHER i don't like musicals....but this was FREAKING AWASOMEEEEEEEE ......guys GUYS guys ....the klingons scene OHHH MYYY GODDDDDDDDDDD aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa i watch like 20 times allready...i laughting sooo fuc*king HARD this scene WAS EPIC and enters in my top scenes list of ST. ....The Klingon voice going down WAS HILARIOUS kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk THIS is how you make a AMAZING ST show...and not that WOKE Star Trek: Discovery trash !!!!
I agree to everything you said my friend… except for calling Disco woke trash 🤣🤣 while I enjoy Disco the least, it’s definitely not trash, and it’s what made SNW possible! Also, all Trek is by definition woke, because it teaches us to push boundaries, make connections, be sensitive to the needs of others 🤣 Disco rant over- yes that Klingon scene killed me several times over 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@JustSomeBodisOpinion What makes me angry about Disco last season is that instead of doing funny trek-style episodes or science episodes, exploration, or just follow the main history, you know how NewGen did it, last season was more about "same-sex" couple drama. .. or that non-binary drama with a person (not sure how to identify) who comes back to life after this other person talks to his ghost .... it was 40 minutes of drama and 10 minutes showing the main story .... .. sorry for those who like this, but for me at least the last season did not represent ST ....AND BEFORE someone call me homofobic or something, sorry but my best friend is gay and another is bissexual, i don't have any problems with that, you can be whatever you want, but put this in a Sci-fi show witch should be about science and space, and not sex, gender or pronoums, its non-sense.
I guess this is where we disagree- science fiction (especially Trek) has always been a mirror held up to society and maybe provide a way to discuss social issues with more distance to it- through a different alien, a different race, a different mechanism. A race without gender? TNG. Commentaries on terrorism. Enterprise. Institutionalized racism- Ad Astra Per Aspera in SNW. The examples are as countless as the episodes. All the sorts of ethical conundrums and implications, wrapped up in an episodic format to explore, question, debate on! So when you say “you can be whatever you want, but put this in a Sci-fi show witch should be about science and space, and not sex, gender or pronoums.” I feel that’s very reductive and basically relegates sci-fi into “Pew! Pew! Pew! Space explosions! Science jargon!” When it is definitely not that and *should* allow us to explore strange new worlds and boldly go where no one has gone before- not just physically but metaphorically.. Funnily enough, what I took away from that Disco theme was on found family and dealing with grief… the gender piece was so incidental to the whole thing. For that matter, they didn’t even mention it except for the one line (not even in the same arc) where Adira tells Stamets they prefer to be called “them” (which I found endearing!) Do I enjoy Disco? Not all the time. I don’t like it most of the time because of its handling of plot- same issue with Picard 1 and 2. , But it’s definitely not because of its “wokeness”. Wokeness is *intrinsic* to Trek and can never be separated from it. Anyway. Those are my thoughts ❤️
Yeah, there doesn't seem to ever be a 'woke' problem with Burnham's relationship with Book, or Saru with T'Rina. It's about everyone being represented. People yell 'Woke' when they have no frame of reference to see an issue and refuse to even examine it.
@@bradheld7927 Like i say i don't care....but 90% of the episode about love relationship it's not why i watch ST. You can represent society like all others ST did it, without losing focus.
this woman playing the Number 1, her character was in the TOS Pilot with Pike as Captain (hen they meet the psychic aliens) and he says something like "Sorry Number One, im not used to having a woman on my ship, let alone the bridge." When the aliens show Pike his fantasy, its him as a king, with Orion whores dancing for him, with another guy saying "I like your planet Chris. You were right. Women are best seen and not heard." Im looking forward to seeing Pike become like that.
This Star Trek series is seriously rubbish. Songs and musical nonsense - WTF??? There are even episodes with cartoon characters - over-exaggerated acting - it really is a joke. The gritty storylines are gone - you couldn't expect this crew of comedians to deal with the dark and gruesome versions of Borg or the Klingons - it's lost the darkness of authentic Star Trek.
Go watch discovery if you want unnecessary darkness. I think this was great and captured the very essence of star trek: silliness and trying new things in space. Old trek never had that much darkness in them. The borg and klingons were the exception, not the rule. also, you clearly haven't seen the episode under the cloak of war, which was one of the best episodes this season. You are not only being unnecessarily rude, you also completely missed what star trek is about.
This is a new take. Usually I see such comments ranting about the darkness and serialized storytelling of Discovery. The approach to SNW is each episode is a different genre, episodic with a light throughline. The great thing about Star Trek is there are so many stories that you can find what you are looking for somewhere. You want dark and gritty? There's DS9, DSC, and PIC. You want funny? There's Lower Decks. You want light? There's Prodigy. For more anthology, TOS, TNG, VOY, and SNW.

Not sure if you found this out, but the Klingon captain is played by the same actor who played Hemmer.
Omggggggggg I didn’t know that!!!
La'an's actress is actually a professionally trained singer, that's why her solo is probably the best song in the episode.
Ooooh yes I’ve been seeing her talking about her new album!! Absolutely did not know about that prior to this episode!
Celia (Uhura) was on Broadway just before this series. I think she has some singing awards.
