That you still have this piece from your youth is testament to your love of such treasures. The outcome is just unbelievable. Looking at the finish is like looking into the depth of time. Thank you for what you do.
I see so many dressers like this all over UA-cam, and they are on the painting block….but this shows how beautiful they can be….color can always be brought in to a room….furniture doesn’t need to be painted!
Well, sometimes it doesn't need to be painted. Other times, as Angie has shown a number of times, it can. Depends on what it is made of and the damage it has accumulated.
I loved watching the gentle care you took removing the old finish. It was very relaxing and soothing, almost hypnotic. How beautiful the wood looks now! I always enjoy your videos. You have a unique way of looking at the furniture, like you can see what each one was meant to be. I’m glad you’re feeling better and thank you for the rescue bunnies!🌸
As you were stripping the shellac you said how satisfying it was to see it removed. This whole video was so satisfying! This dresser is so beautiful. I love the way you chose to honor its history. 💕
You have excellent production skills. The camera work is first rate; every shot well framed, every bit of lighting spot on. Your voice is perfect for narration and the background music is never harsh; never invades the scene. Of course, your actual woodworking talent is first rate but many talented artists fail to articulate their craft this well. Keep up the great work!
Girl, you rock! I also still have my teenage years bedroom suite and I'm 75 years old and sleep in that bed every night. It's gone through one repaint and then a strip and varnish. Sadly, my work isn't as good as yours. I love the way you respected the dents and scratches, because, really, that's part of who you are. I just discovered your work about a week ago, and already I've learned so much from you. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks! I still buy bargain worn pieces and make them into something better than they were and I suspect they will last a lot longer than I will. I also love that you love animals so much. They are a delight, especially Nacho!
What you do with your projects is magic! I love your videos more than any other wood working channel and I've been a wood working enthusiast since The Woodwright's Shop on PBS in the 80's.
My word, that turned out beautiful! I just love that mocha-maple-chocolate tone to the wood. This seems like almost a conservation job more than restoration. Absolutely beautiful.
It just warms my heart to see this restored in its natural state, and not painted! The wood is beautiful. And the memories you have makes this a special piece
It came out beautifully!! You can't even tell the drawer was tinted. Blends so well, and I agree with you about the finish. This is so much better. Makes me smile to see how much this piece means to you personally. Also, because you are on the mend, and back refinishing. Enjoyed this, as always! Love to the family!
Thank you so much for watching Kristi! I'm very happy to be back, I missed everyone. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, all the best to you and yours as well! ❤️
Thank you for sharing a piece of your childhood with us. This was such an awesome transformation and the story behind it made it really special. As always, it turned out absolutely incredible! PS, I love seeing Nacho and the bunnies! It's always a treat to see them included.
I am so excited! I love your videos. I've tried to find similar style videos from other people but it's way too much ASMR for me. I'm so sorry you were injured and so happy you've bounced back! Thank you so much for all your work to keep furniture out of landfills and for the entertainment your content provides me on a daily basis. I just got so excited when I saw that your new video was coming out today! I may have squealed.
@@designabeej I hurt my back. Turning sideways in a chair, of all things. Haha. I have one disc that likes to give me trouble every five years ago. Apparently I was due. Haha
OMGosh! That dresser is amazing! You did such a lovely job on it. And thank you for the Skill-share promo. I did actually get a month free to try it out.
I absolutely love walnut and this piece is beautiful. I love the way your treatment has enhanced the wood rather than masking the variations in the grain. I appreciate how much more meaningful it is that you've known this piece most of your life. And now you get to enjoy its renaissance. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful and sensitive restoration of a piece you have nostalgia about. You can see the love you applied! Your finishes and the celebration of that walnut made it PERFECT!❤ Love it!
You never cease to amaze me, you gave no more love and care to this piece than you do any other piece. The beauty of the grain is spectacular. Please, please, please do not EVER sell this dresser. It is part of your history.
It is called character! Just beautiful! It is as the wood tells you a story and you hear it! Love the bunnies and your videos. ❤️ I always leave in higher spirits.❤️👋👋👋
What struck me the most about this transformation is the respect for the history of the peace. I also love to watch all your videos. You have so many cool T-shirts.
Thank you for sharing this piece and your memories with us. I can tell it means a lot to you, and it turned out gorgeous with all that special character retained!
Gorgeous wood grain hiding under that finish. How satisfying to see life breathed back into the piece. ❤️ What a great tip about the tack cloth. I didn't know that. I have tons of old furniture that has the original hard loved finish. I was told to use mineral spirits because it doesn't raise the grain. That worked realky well on an old oak drop leaf table I have but I might try the denatured alcohol on another piece.
really good show about your childhood dresser refinishing with the dings left in …also the bunny rescue speaks volumes of caring for all creatures great and small
I hit the "like button" even before watching because you NEVER disappoint! Always look forward to watching your beautiful work and seeing your furry kids. thanks Angie...
Angie! Of all the other furniture renovation videos, yours are my absolute favorites. Your style is modern, clean, and oh-so-elegant without being fussy. And I love your voice over narratives. You are a treat. Please don't stop!
Glad that your back is back, and that you are back with videos about your beautiful work! This one, as always, is really nice. Glad you kept the perfect imperfections and are celebrating the really great wood with a clear finish 💥🥳
It amazes me how beautiful the wood is under all that tacky finish from the past! It's crazy how much they went out of their way to hide it. And it makes me look twice at old furniture. Ps: looks like Nacho is happy to donate some thumbs to your organization process! 😁
Wow! Look at all that beautiful grain. It must be very satisfying to restore an old friend. And I just love your decision to keep the history intact by leaving the dings and dents. Don't ever sell it. It's a part of your life.
Thank you for doing this dresser justice! It always makes me sad to see people take a unique, beautiful piece like this and make it look like something you could find anywhere, if that makes sense.
Oh, I definitely understood your comment! I was heartbroken to see another person on UA-cam refinish a beautiful Georgian style mahogany dresser and proclaim that the brass hardware and shell motif were ugly and then proceed to paint the whole darn thing grey! PS, she actually removed the shell motif.
@@wallihaley5194 I saw a woman take a dresser from the 1800s that was in excellent condition, it was stained in two tones, darker for the frame and more of a mahogany for the drawers, hand painted with gold detailing. She removed all of the hand carved decals and pieces (which were beautifully done) and painted it black. In the end it looked like a flat faced dresser from Ikea with slightly more ornate legs. 😩
So glad I watched. A few of the pieces I’ve gathered so far also are muted by too much toner. It is nice that when I eventually get to refinishing them, I will see more beautiful wood grain. Beautiful work, as always. Thank you, Angie!

Absolutely stunning! Thank you for restoring this piece rather than painting it, repurposing it, or trashing it. That wood is exquisite.
Thanks for watching!

I’m a HUGE Fan and Love this piece‼️
How do you know if it’s a shellac finish that you can remove with denatured alcohol?
Injured how? What happened?

Sounds like you have a lot on your plate. Makes me appreciate your videos more. Great job, looks beautiful.
There is definitely a lot that goes on behind the scenes of most UA-cam channels.. The furniture- that's the EASY part! haha
