  • This was pulled from a trash bin; saved at the last moment! It found its way to my workroom and I'll do what I can to make sure it is ready for the next 50 years. Using oxalic acid, Mohawk markers, and Odie's Oil, I'll try to make this as good as new. Or maybe even better than new!

Joy to tell you, Angie, this is my favourite UA-cam restoration to date! You made all the right choices making the grain all that it could be and then some. I was sceptical but the blackened hardware created visual harmony with the inlaid lines [also in black] and visually deepened the darkest of the walnut tones. You actually gave this piece character it hadn't yet shown - while many 'makeovers' often erase patina and character. Big hug to you.

You have become so proficient with explaining things and I love that you share tips and tricks as so many others like to keep secrets to themselves. I’m 61 and really enjoyed my years refinishing furniture as I hate to see stuff end up in a landfill when all it needs is some tlc and elbow grease. The piece turned out more reddish than I expected; it reminded me of that cherry colonial dresser you finished with Odie's Oil -- one of my favorite transformations of yours. I've said in the past that MCM isnt my favorite style, however, when you are finished restoring these pieces, i am close to being a convert. Some things should definitely be restored. But much like modern day designers, olden day designers sometimes got things wrong. Or the items were not taken care of properly and are destroyed. Or just aren’t practical anymore and end up in landfills. Being useful, for me, sometimes trumps being fully restored. So I consider each piece individually, rather than the idea that every single piece of mediocre furniture needs restoration.

I started watching this channel a little over a year ago. I get content fatigue easily, usually, but I have not grown tired of this channel at all. Moreover, you have shown me reasons to love mid century furniture. I'm usually a French provincial and art deco gal. Love this channel and the soothing way you present it, I'll be here as long as you have stuff to show!

My jaw actually dropped at the reveal. This. Is. GORGEOUS. You worked some amazing magic to give this ugly duckling such a beautiful dark makeover! The wood looks nourished and healthy instead of dry and worn out, and the black hardware is the perfect touch. Great job!
Very glad to hear the wildfires are beginning to back down. We had smoke from the Quebec fires and also some local wildfires in New Jersey last week and it was really bad. Hoping the fires are eventually completely contained and you all stay safe

Hi Angie!! It’s been a while since I’ve watched your channel. Had some awful health challenges this first half of the year, but I’m definitely on the mend! Thank you Angie! I learn so much from you with every video! I just restored two mid-century dressers and can see all of my mistakes but my client loves them and I know how to improve next time. You’re awesome, kind, smart and an excellent teacher. Please keep sharing your gifts!😊

Many thanks for the final run down on the products you have used.

I do a lot of full restorations but sometimes a bit of paint on lesser quality wood (and especially plastic laminate coated wood, or Formica) can keep something structurally sound from being tossed just because it’s a bit rough or dated cosmetically. But I like to restore certain woods whenever possible. 🙂

I'm so glad the voting ended for black hardware because in my head, seeing the piece now, those sharp black lines were begging for it. This is a rockstar drawer - no gold hardware would be as nice and fitting, and it also went great with the warm tone of the veneer. Great job!!
