@@_-.alexiss.-_1404 basically how the composer of this song wanted the war in Iraq to be over and how he has just been longing for peace this entire time ever since it started and this song is how he envisioned how it will end with peace and hope (if im not mistaken)
Our band director almost broke down during this song because it got him emotional over his son (that passed away) who’s birthday was that day. I almost cried too cause I wasn’t feeling it that day. Such a beautiful piece.
We’re playing this for festival in March!! We just got the music, as a triangle player I’m so excited even though I only play a little. I get to sit down for most of it and listen to those beautiful harmonies. ✨
My band just recently played this song and bc I am a flute and didn’t play much, I got to listen to all of the other parts and it was so good and the clarinet parts gave me chills. Funny enough, the only time we were ever able to all play together perfectly was the night of the concert
Same, I'm 3rd clarinet and I play the more base parts Of the song, And I absolutely fell in love with my part, I just feel so important Like i'm part of the foundation of the song, the part that's holding it up, I love how the harmony and the melody blend together so beautifully
He made earth song originally for a choir but he took the main theme from sanctuary to make it. Then he made earth song into a band piece cause it’s shorter and easier than sanctuary
It’s actually a really cool story. The original piece is called “Sanctuary.” Ticheli wrote sanctuary as a memorial piece for a close friend that had just passed. He then wrote a poem about the war in Iraq and took one of the main themes from that piece and used it to create the original “Earth Song” that was written for choir(I got to sing that piece at TMEA for state freshman year). He then made a band arrangement from that choral piece. I highly recommend listening to the choral piece as well. It’ll help explain the story better than I did but that’s the main idea of why he wrote it
Once our director told us what this song was about and why it was written, it’s both beautiful and heartbreaking
What was the song about

Am I the only one confused at how Earth Song and Sanctuary are basically the same piece?
