I'd like to take a minute to point out that JP had a 14-15 second gap from the leading pack before he used his nitro cap, catching them in the span of about 3-5 seconds (if we cut out the commentator's remarks about his rocket ride). My guess is that these cars, without nitro, push about 200-220 (since towards the end we see JP's speedometer reading 225 before he pops his second nitro cap). For JP to suddenly close that 14-15 second gap in 3-5 seconds, his car jumped from 215-220MPH to a solid *245-250MPH, maybe beyond that.* Towards the end of the race, JP and Sonoshee are both doing ~220MPH until they pop their nitros, and there's no other cars around them. When JP crashes, there's about 5-10 seconds until the rest of the pack catches him at the line (they were both pushing the same 245-250MPH on the run to and past the line, though JP was likely pushing 260-275 since he keeps ahead and starts to pull away from Sonoshee until he crashes). That leaves me to wonder how fast or slow their competitors were to have built that gap in such a short time. Not to mention the fact that JP crashes while still under boost at 260-275MPH. A crash that violent at that speed? Dude's lucky to have gotten away with the injuries he did. This sport is fucking insane.
Some of the speed gaps I think could also be factored after all the twists and turns they made til the final stretch. But I had thank you for the rest of this information. That seems otherwise quite logical
This edit is so good, it manages to perfectly cut out that weird subplot of the mafia and his mechanic and made it just look like the power was too much for the car to naturally handle. Fantastic job
I did cut a version of the film with almost purely races for myself, it was roughly an hour long. The issue is that I can't really share it here. I could but, i'd be really risking a strike.
Idk man. With context, JP knew he was supposed to throw the race and he knew that that tire was about to go, but he didn’t care. He went for it anyways. He’s wild and there is something very cool about that to me
The subplot makes a lot of sence if you know about the history of NASCAR and auto racing in general. TLDR; the mafia started it during prohibition because their drivers liked to race each other in the rum running cars they'd modded to be faster than cop cars. Mob money is what allowed NASCAR to start up in the first place, and what made it at one time, the number 2 sport in America (before it got lame and boring after they put limits on how fast cars could be rather than make tracks safer at high speeds).
Aside from how kick-ass awesome this movie was (and still is!) can we all take a moment to appreciate how utterly adorable Sonoshee was? Talk about a great girl!
She's also fucking insane like the rest of them. The first time I watched it, when she stomped on the gas on the home stretch, and set off JP's last nitro, I actually said aloud and in awe, "Crazy _bitch."_ And she's still Best Girl.
before I saw this movie, all I knew about it was this shot at 2:18 in an animation reel. Just from that four seconds, I knew I needed to see it and to go in blind. Sublime film.
Same, I'd say it's the best part of the movie. But it's also great it's just a part of the movie, if it were to be a 2h long yellow line, I'm not sure I could watch it all.
Nice traeng. Very clean edit. The audio is clipped cleaner here as well. The decision to remove the mob boss scene was interesting, and actually works out quite well. I also agree with the fps, increasing it would have messed with your quality. I would have to pick this one, over the old edit. Good work, thanks traeng!
o7 I adjusted the cuts frame by frame until the music somewhat matched, at least the rythm. I also removed the bomb on that one, Kinda happy about it. I don’t think I can do any better. I’ll not make another one for sure :D Just glad everyone can now look at that race in HD with the highest quality possible (although I’m sure some experts will say otherwise)

I can come to appreciate the fact that you don’t see why his rear driver side wheel came off. So it is presumed to be strain on suspension components, perhaps. However, when you go watch the movie, you could easily make the argument that nobody could beat him in yellowline up until that incident. Reasons, reasons... Very exciting!
You know, the big thing about car racing is when you go spectate at an actual racetrack. Watching cars on TV is just horrible. You don't hear the roaring of engines pass you at 300kph while you're separated by chickenwires.
One thing I really like is how Sonoshee's vehicle acts when it's on the water. The way it bounces just really sells how it's hover on jets, and I loved watching her spin out on the water. That thing would have no friction and would be difficult to turn, so of course it would spin like crazy once you got it started. It also makes it drifting around the corner make sense too, she can't take the turn like normal, otherwise she'd just shoot right off the course!
Tell me which one you prefer, the old one, or this edit? I personally find this edit better, a bit more colorful. Also it has 5.1 audio, not sure the older one did. I couldn't upload trueHD version, so I went for AAC instead. Blacks should be darker, and I did not compress the video when I uploaded it. So, any loss that happened here were youtube made, and I can't do anything about this. (I've heard I could upload this in 60fps or in 1440p, but I don't want to. Keeping the original 23.976024 fps was important to me)
The old one without a doubt, i can't see certain details or make out small movements on this one, your previous video is without a doubt more clear. I feel like the frames hold for just long enough for me to take in everything on the screen with your old video, but this one is like watching the movie in it's regular configuration. I feel like i need to rewind and watch it again to see everything going on, you can definitely see more in your old video, the action in your old one is considerably more clear.
@@commanderdon4300 hmm, ok. I tried to export this video as H.264 with the quality set to 100%. It did work as it was a 6gb file. I’m guessing youtube encoding did that to the video, sadly I don’t remember the settings used to export the old video.

5:29 I love that scene.. It just portrays that sense of scale of these monsters that an average muscle car had to compete against. They have an almost alien feel to it.
This is better edit, despite the old edit being classic, this new one trims all the fat, and absolutely nails the pacing. This edit is perfect for the youtube medium, as although the mob scene is very important for the movie, its not that important for this 9 minute short. However, as a possible compromise, why not just have a quick cut of the detonator being pressed? It can show that the car was rigged, while maintains the pace and adding intrigue
So. I did ask myself why or why not remove the bomb. See, the bomb was linked to the mafia. It wasn't really needed. Yet here, it looks like his car broke just because of how fast he went. Which removes the mafia completely, and in my opinion, doesn't change things much. Why not the quick cut? Due to the music. See, if I would have let that cut, the music just wouldn't match. Already how it's done now, if you listen to it carefully, the song doesn't continue exactly as you'd expect. (at the part when it zooms on JP's eye) I don't think it matters in the end. however, I did remove completely anything with the mafia, which is good. for me at least.
I haven’t seen the movie in a long time, and I totally forgot about the mobster scenes, so I thought this was all one long race scene. That’s how good your editing is, bro.
Thanks, but to be honest, I think the movie was done without the mob first. And they added it afterwards, or something like that. Hence why I was able to cut transitions that smooth.
My favorite part of this is at 4:09, navigating the S-curve. The animators went out of their way to show that even in this ludicrously over-the-top fever dream of anime indulgence, physics matter. All the other racers picked massive dragsters loaded with weaponry to deal with outer threats, and they almost turn into ping pong balls; meanwhile, JP's seemingly idiotic decision to go small and light pays off in how he's able to stay planted and weave through the chaos to take the lead.
With this editing the race looks more natural and Jp's car broke because the chassis couldn't resist such G force rather than the bomb sabotage bullshit Congratulation traeng, you improved this anime.
I did my best hehe. But I really should edit the entire movie, the main problem is that I don't think I can post even an edited version on youtube without getting striked.

Ordinarily I'm a sub purist, but since there's also a good upload of the sub, bouncing back and forth between that and this, without the bias of nostalgia since I missed this one when it was new... I think the dub actually sounds better. The character vocal performances in English are more enthusiastic and over the top, which for an anime like this feels much more fitting.
I think it's totally fine to prefer subs or prefer dubs, but I think it's fair to say sometimes certain shows just sound better in certain languages. I watch most anime in subs but some shows like Cowboy Bebop, Redline, or Panty and Stocking sound so good in english

My guess is that these cars, without nitro, push about 200-220 (since towards the end we see JP's speedometer reading 225 before he pops his second nitro cap). For JP to suddenly close that 14-15 second gap in 3-5 seconds, his car jumped from 215-220MPH to a solid *245-250MPH, maybe beyond that.*
Towards the end of the race, JP and Sonoshee are both doing ~220MPH until they pop their nitros, and there's no other cars around them.
I mean, its an anime bro
Some of the speed gaps I think could also be factored after all the twists and turns they made til the final stretch. But I had thank you for the rest of this information. That seems otherwise quite logical
RX-7 GOES TO0 FAST AROUND 20 SECOND GAP OF 340 MPH 440 MPH
HE'S GONNA WIN AROUND 23 SECONDS
The Mazda RX-7 FD3S HAS 920 HP 12.000 RPM AND SPEED TO SOLID 230 245 MPH
"Driving his Trans-AM" was the LAST thing i expected out of something like this lmao 1:47
I love all the wild descriptions of everyone and their vehicles and then it’s just “And some guy in a Trans-Am”
@@swisstraeng Any way I could get a copy of that? It'd be an awesome thing to have. No intention of distributing.
That moment where the intense and energetic music cuts to complete silence as the checkered flag is unfurled gives me goosebumps every time
The animation is crazy for it's time. Tbh uts better than most nowadays too
These are hand drawn. With effects added on top. Took Madhouse Studio 7 years to make and they almost went bankrupt because of it.
Him pulling the trigger and maxing out his machine might be the sickest scene I have seen in any anime, ever.
JP is pushing the engine so hard it's starting to fail, it's lifespan is to the line.
Nothing has ever captured the feeling of all-out speed better.
Aside from how kick-ass awesome this movie was (and still is!) can we all take a moment to appreciate how utterly adorable Sonoshee was? Talk about a great girl!
She's the BEST ❤
She's also fucking insane like the rest of them. The first time I watched it, when she stomped on the gas on the home stretch, and set off JP's last nitro, I actually said aloud and in awe, "Crazy _bitch."_
And she's still Best Girl.
7:20 you can feel the headlights being squeezed deeper into a hull
before I saw this movie, all I knew about it was this shot at 2:18 in an animation reel. Just from that four seconds, I knew I needed to see it and to go in blind. Sublime film.
watched this movie for the first time earlier this year, i was totally hooked from the yellow line race and i keep coming back to watch it.
Same, I'd say it's the best part of the movie.
But it's also great it's just a part of the movie, if it were to be a 2h long yellow line, I'm not sure I could watch it all.
You're not only one
Nice traeng.
Very clean edit. The audio is clipped cleaner here as well.
The decision to remove the mob boss scene was interesting, and actually works out quite well.
I also agree with the fps, increasing it would have messed with your quality.
I would have to pick this one, over the old edit.
Good work, thanks traeng!

I adjusted the cuts frame by frame until the music somewhat matched, at least the rythm.
I also removed the bomb on that one, Kinda happy about it.
I don’t think I can do any better.
I’ll not make another one for sure :D
Just glad everyone can now look at that race in HD with the highest quality possible (although I’m sure some experts will say otherwise)
Hey blip, there's a 4K version out now, you should watch it ua-cam.com/video/oL10Gt2uags/v-deo.html
I can't do better though :D
6:28 the bmw driver on his way to go 400 miles per hour to overtake me
I always wondered how this scene would play out without the mob boss part. I quite like it.
It feels like the mob was added after they made the whole race, which made editing this somewhat easy.
Shortly after my dad died, I watched this movie every single day for 2 weeks. I can no longer watch it without crying, but that is not going to stop me from watching it. Redline is a safe and sacred place for me, I want to learn Japanese so I can meet the director and thank him in his native language
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takeshi_Koike
He's the movie's director. Although he would argue other people truly were this movie's director. I do not remember the mentionned guy's name, but I do remember he was mentionned in this video here: ua-cam.com/video/TCvYQtPGp_Q/v-deo.html

same but in 4k!
You might be cool, but you'll never be as cool as flirting with your rival while drifting during a turbo boost.
Very well done, removing the mafia was a good choice in my opinion as it kind of took the feeling away from the race when I watched the movie
Yeah right? And like, the mafia was brutally added in, a sudden jump out of the race just to show something rather pointless...
@@swisstraeng i feel it def couldve be handled better in the movie, like little signs here and there that later with the info about the mafia wpuld have us go: wait thats why it botched! Not cause of Sweet JP
Yeah, I'm so glad I could cut that part off so clean!
that's soooo impressive! although i never had any interest in car racing before, this clip still make me heart racing and hang on the edge of my seat!
Keeping the original 23.976024 fps was important to me)
This one def better! 👍
Would love to watch the whole movie like this... Good job!
I always watch this video when I’m high
@@commanderdon4300 hmm, ok.
I tried to export this video as H.264 with the quality set to 100%. It did work as it was a 6gb file.
I’m guessing youtube encoding did that to the video, sadly I don’t remember the settings used to export the old video.
the sub is terrific and a perfect showcase of all action and little to no useless exposition, show dont tell, also a masterclass in delivering sense of speed in animation
Yeah they really did amazing on that one.
5:29
I love that scene.. It just portrays that sense of scale of these monsters that an average muscle car had to compete against. They have an almost alien feel to it.
Not to mention the fact that he races that car by pure choice alone, with no weapons whatsoever
This is basically Wacky Races but anime and in the future.
i love this movie so much, its the type of movie you can just play at any time and you dont get sick of it
This is better edit, despite the old edit being classic, this new one trims all the fat, and absolutely nails the pacing.
(at the part when it zooms on JP's eye)
I don't think it matters in the end. however, I did remove completely anything with the mafia, which is good. for me at least.
@@swisstraeng It's the spectators' perspective.
@@swisstraeng I agree, it creates a stronger pull by trimming what redline is all about: racing.
Props to the cameraman
I haven’t seen the movie in a long time, and I totally forgot about the mobster scenes, so I thought this was all one long race scene.
That’s how good your editing is, bro.
Thanks, but to be honest, I think the movie was done without the mob first. And they added it afterwards, or something like that.
Hence why I was able to cut transitions that smooth.
Man this is gorgeous. Thanks for editing just the race. The audio transitions so smoothly!
I posted the same but in 4K now, you should watch it instead! ua-cam.com/video/oL10Gt2uags/v-deo.html
"Mechanical Failure" Yeah, that sure is one way to put it.
shhhhh! :D
I love how your nitro is either going to blow you up or make you go so fast you swallow your balls.
Why not both?
@@swisstraeng Yeah like the ending.

The animation is FLAWLESS! Screw it that it flopped in Japan. I loved it!
Anime like this are only popular in western countries, Japan not so much. Innovation is a no go most of the time in the Japanese industry
As awesome as this is, you still can't beat the final race!
Ehhhh, personally, I prefer yellow line.
Final race was amazing too though.
With this editing the race looks more natural and Jp's car broke because the chassis couldn't resist such G force rather than the bomb sabotage bullshit
Congratulation traeng, you improved this anime.
I did my best hehe. But I really should edit the entire movie, the main problem is that I don't think I can post even an edited version on youtube without getting striked.
I love how intense that race is. All high-speed action!

I posted both languages on my channel now, you can compare them apple to apple if you want.
And they're in 4k.
I think it's totally fine to prefer subs or prefer dubs, but I think it's fair to say sometimes certain shows just sound better in certain languages. I watch most anime in subs but some shows like Cowboy Bebop, Redline, or Panty and Stocking sound so good in english
@@Bruh-Moment435 Exactly. Those are all one's I'd agree have a better experience with the dub over the sub. And then there's one where I massively prefer the sub (not that the dubs are necessarily bad but I just feel like the sub captures the characters more), like Naruto or My Hero Academia.
@@Bruh-Moment435it really depends on the actors and if they’re putting their heart into their performance. In the case of this movie everyone does a great job of hamming it up and having fun with it, which is what this movie is all about
