@MidNight Rules That's fine. Red Line is one of those projects that exists purely to showcase the skill of the animators. It's 'beautiful' in the technical sense and I can get why the aesthetic and scant story would be off putting for some.
@Antonio Candido is right though that it's impressive in the sense that, the whole thing feels like its pilot and previews, from start to finish. A lot of better known movies fail to live up to that.

considering how many times I've seen redline as a film and to see this it's amazing how far the animation team managed to go with such a simple premise. This group of crazy racers each which could easily carry an entire anime on their own solely featuring them and their story, for them all to feature in this one film, receive equal development and motivation and still for it to come out as this beautiful balanced piece is a wonder to view. Also won't lie, I much prefer the film design for JP, though Sonoshee's appearance here almost looks more human than the movie. She seems more vibrant and alive. Idk small nitpick, still love the film and I love this

There are some things in this I like more than the movie, roboworld being sunny is nice because you can see more and the Super Boins' mechsuit straight up punching and crushing other mechs compared to the movie where it felt weaker and had less weight. The movie finale was both more over the top and ridiculously polished artistically which I'm glad for, it's great they followed their vision, it just feels this rough cartooney style (J.P. melting when the nitro hits) serves the Redline vibe a little better. I realize I'm nitpicking an awesome movie that was so high budget it bankrupted the studio, so I'll stop.

Now I can see how they developed the ideas from Trava and through this pilot to the final form that is the Redline movie. In Trava the main character clearly was a vision that preceded JP. They took some cool stuff from Trava and gave it to JP, like the knife-comb and heavy smoking. Trava in this pilot seems to be this cheeky dude he was in the OVA (and now I see why in his poster in the final movie he has orange goggles, he never actually wears them lol), it's fun to see a nod to him in the final movie, but he is a totally different character there. I mean, he was this crazy dude ace pilot and then just became a rando that got his ass beat and kind of was there to race, while JP took the coolness. I think it's interesting and I appreciate how I can see those hints of steps of development here and there that gave us the crazy masterpiece that is Redline.
