Redline is the best 80's animation film made in the 2000's
I just wonder if they could have waited (or had the same vision later) to have the technology and made it today with all the budget starting in 2013-2020 how long would it take , how much beautiful it would be.

The animation of TransAM getting its hull ripped off revealing a trike form was so good it made it into a final movie almost unchanged

@MidNight Rules That's fine. Red Line is one of those projects that exists purely to showcase the skill of the animators. It's 'beautiful' in the technical sense and I can get why the aesthetic and scant story would be off putting for some.
@Antonio Candido is right though that it's impressive in the sense that, the whole thing feels like its pilot and previews, from start to finish. A lot of better known movies fail to live up to that.
How have I not heard of it before. The animation is fucking beautiful throughout the whole film

@@lintilion unfortunately, the movie isn't quite like this. I feel like we had a full series set up, but the cash wasn't there.
TheFooledGhost the movie took 7 years to make. If it were a series it would be so costly and take so long. Having animation of this fluidity and with this detail is extremely hard to do and not cheap.

Redline is a prime example of the rare occasions the dub is better than the sub, not because of the voice acting or delivery but because every second spent reading a subtitle is a second wasted not watching the animation

I love how the usually stiff, lifeless metal on the cars is just as alive and kinetic as the people who are driving them
I like the difference of car size between the racers in this one but i'm glad they toned it down in the final version

@@MadaraUchiha-oh3iv This was the 'pilot' for redline. Pilots are initial test videos that are usually shown to high execs to determine if they want to put in the money to make the movie/show a reality. It was never in the original movie.
An anime so gorgeous that it bankrupted its own studio.

This is exactly what my mind goes through when coming up with my own action packed cartoon: a flashy, fast paced, jumbled up mess that would be too incoherent to put into a visual medium, and due to the fact I lack the talent of animating, let alone to this insane degree. I'm glad madhouse was able to put it into a visual representation. I don't know if any of you thought the same

Well, imagine pirate ship like Black Pearl but not normal, with crab legs, moving forward as fast as one of these "cars" but on land, while being filled to the brim with pirates going full battle Royale [fate level] explosions, magic natural disasters and one huge FFA

Yoshiaki Kawajiri's The Running Man felt more like F-Zero to me, As Redline felt more like an X-Rated Mario kart mixed in with some Crazy Taxi plus a tiny bit of Twisted Metal here and there.

Red Line's great but it's definitely something you have to be in the right state of mind for. The plot is very much an excuse for the gorgeous animation.

What happens if you take Hotwheels, an unconfortable amount of hair gel, Speed Racer, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind's artstyle, some cocaine and Cyberpunk 2077, and combine them while ignoring the laws of physics? You get this masterpiece of a movie.

The pilot is pretty rad. You can see where they redid and integrated specific sequences from this pilot throughout the movie with different characters from start to finish. Sonoshee using the pistol on the missile versus the crab dude shooting the grappling hooks, JP's fenders getting torn off making his car into the trike before steamlight etc. I really loved this movie. As a 34 year old man who grew up on Toonami and ANIME 97 (from the SCI-FI channel wayy back when), this movie was a treat.
This is the over-the-top ****** that I signed up for when I subscribed to life.

Redline is art. Much like how old movies will be analyzed in the future, this is easily one of the best experiences those students in the future could experience.

This is basically what it feels like when you're younger and playing with your toys and making these over the top scenarios with them and I love it
And they went on with a whole movie like this: a tiny bit of dialogue and buckets of adrenaline across 2 hours.

I may be a huge sucker for great animation, but it's actually pretty rare that I keep a consistent smile and go "Ooooh" several times during only the span of 5 minutes, and this pilot of RedLine completely deserves it.

imo this 5 minute pilot is even better than the whole actual movie. Its almost like they made up a movie so that this clip makes sense, but honestly the pilot is really enough for the story and leaves a lot to imagine and think about 🥰🥰
I mean it is Madhouse Studios, everything they do is awesome, just look at One Punch Man Season 1.
I think you can buy a few dragon ball series with Redline budget. I heard dbz was like 50k per episode. And the budget of redline was 30kk. So its 600 episodes of dbz, or 3 DBZ.
considering how many times I've seen redline as a film and to see this it's amazing how far the animation team managed to go with such a simple premise. This group of crazy racers each which could easily carry an entire anime on their own solely featuring them and their story, for them all to feature in this one film, receive equal development and motivation and still for it to come out as this beautiful balanced piece is a wonder to view. Also won't lie, I much prefer the film design for JP, though Sonoshee's appearance here almost looks more human than the movie. She seems more vibrant and alive. Idk small nitpick, still love the film and I love this
There's really two kinds of people that end up watching Redline: people who had no idea what the hell it was until they stumbled on it, and people who are only there for Trava and Shinkai
I've never heard of the latter. It is interesting to think that people were hyped about particular characters before Redline actually came out.
I was purely blown away by the visuals and had to check it out.

What voice acting? I'm pretty sure it's just filler gibberish here.
Doesn't make a lot of sense to pay real voice actors for a production that may never happen i guess.
@Ehughesj There's some voice acting in the form of characterization, like they know already the general idea of what they want the characters to sound like and style without dedicating too much time to lines and having a clean act, just short, fast samples they can put in to ilustrate what the final product aims to be.
Takeshi Koike is the greatest contemporary animator, imo. His style is UNIQUE. It's like if 80's anime and 90's Hip Hop had a baby while tripping on shrooms. So much sense of speed and just an amazing visual spectacle that we should all consider ourselves lucky to have witnessed in our lifetime. "REDLINE" is my top anime movie of all time, animation-wise.
I was sitting in Baltimore when this pilot was first revealed and I was absolutely floored. To think that 9 years later the movie would not only exceed even my expectations then, but vastly surpass anything they had ever animated up to that point in terms of quality… man what a journey.
None of this is in the movie, and that just makes it more accurate

I love the SuperBoins twins; they're such a crazy juxtaposition of ultra sexualized cuteness and unflinching aggression. But not overdone as so many others have. A lesser cartoon would milk a joke like that for all it's worth and then some, while Redline brings across ten times more in ten times less the time.

And it feels like so much potential wasn't realized. Probably because of a lack of funding.
@@blazingfuryoffire1 This pilot was super ambitious since it suggests that the team behind it wanted more locations and race tracks to be in the movie. I think them scaling it back a little was a good choice since it kept things focused. And the final product is just as insane

It all comes across as very chill for the most part. I say for the most part, because well...of the tornado and stuff. And yeeeeeess! The soundtrack!! That really helps the chill aspect set in. The same with Max’s somewhat monotone voice
There’s another game that I know that’s very laidback. Aside from Minecraft, which nearly everybody knows about. I’m talking of VA-11 Hall-A! I’ve been wanting to buy it for a while now. Cyberpunk bartending, along with great aesthetics and soundtrack to boot. Just serve drinks, listening to people’s stories

This brilliant animated movie and its concept short film will always reminder me why, in a good sense, Madhouse is called MADhouse.

I remember when this video had only a thousand views and even if you searched it, it was difficult to find.
At 2:30 when the “car” lifts up you can clearly hear the 2 Door Opening/Closing door from the OG Doom....whyyy
It's a stock door sound. It existed before Doom and has been used in 1000s of different media.
I have not idea why UA-cam recommended me this but I'm so glad it did. Really not sure what this was but boy did it not disappoint.

This is one of those rare pilots where the final product delivers even far more than promised. Watch this movie, folks, is great. I want even more after watching it a dozen of times.

There was something unique about this one, where I think it took them years to animate it, as every frame was hand-drawn, similar to older 80s-90s animes...

Red Line is such a friggin inspiring work! the dynamic movements, each with power and actual velocity behind them..!! Never has it failed in keeping me at the edge of my seat

Someone should make a battle royale type racing game were you are dropped off at one end of the map and have to race to the other whilst competing against the other racers
I haven't the slightest clue what just happened but I loved every second of it.
I remember watching this pilot when I was back in high school. Such a huge fucking inspiration to me and to this day is still animation goals for me.
Imagine being a species of highly militarized androids and having your home planet and capital invaded by a racing competition and after everything you couldn’t stop it.
I kinda feel bad for them.
My god, watching this after seeing the movie is so awesome, all the little things that made it into the movie, all the little things that were expanded upon, fuckin hell redline is awesome
