  • Wei Yi Laksa & Prawn Noodle named with stall owner, Mr Yin’s (鄞惟才) name in mind. The second character of his Chinese name, “惟”, was the inspiration for the stall name, “唯一”, meaning “One and Only”.
At 2am, Mr Yin is already at his stall, beginning preparations for the day. Chilli paste, boiling chickens - these are some of the things Mr Yin has to accomplish before business starts at 5.30am.
A bowl of Laksa can contain prawns, cockles, and chicken as toppings, depending on what one would like. Pieces of Tau Pok (fried beancurd) soak up the thick, rich coconut-ty broth, that burst with flavour in your mouth. Noodles, submerged and coated with broth, will make you find yourself slurping non-stop, savour with utmost delight!
When asked about his secret recipe for success, Mr Yin shared it is none other than putting heart and soul into the work you do.

I was an exchange student at NUS almost 10 years ago and lived in commonwealth. This is one of the best food i ever tasted. It's kind of a mixed feeling that the uncle turned 68 already. Time flies but i need to visit this place again no matter how hard this pandemic is. All the best.

Used to eat it everyday for a few months when I fetched my wife to Dover every morning. Never got jelak. The laksa gravy is not thick but not watery either. It’s balanced. The taupok is specially commissioned to his specs and they don’t turn soggy. Seldom eat it nowadays as I stay pretty far away.

Good stuff needs hard work. Can someone recommend to the hawkers the stirrer that can help stir fry chilli n soup etc (many hawkers spend much time stirring stuff in their preparation); can factory produce smaller size tao pok so that hawker can save the time cutting it into pieces. So much labour involved in making good food.

Great tip!, It is indeed very hardworking for our pioneer generation. Uncle mentioned that no education that is why need to work hard. Think working against the odd is something my generation is lacking.

Even give him a Michelin,,this laksa difficult to franchise out..even his wife take over to cook is different taste always..so sad,,laksa, char kway tiao, fishball noodle, chai tow kueh, all these fried ones very difficult to make it big. So sad..is unlike chicken rice, soy chicken, Chili crabs..& coming to 70,,what’s his chance to see a big break? Another 5 Xmas is 75..sad..another 8 Xmas Wei Yi will be vanished. Wei Yi is a bad name as is one n only..so the chef also one n only..cook till u drop drip & die..to young hip hawker, should think twice ..choose the right food to do..
