Hi Leslie from California, I'm Leslie from California 😁 haven't knit a sweater yet so can't help you there, but love all your pattern choices and your yarn 😍😍😍 cubby tour!
Love your buddy! All those sweaters will be beautiful. I love your color choices. I think I would start with the cardigan, since it's a layering piece it's more versatile.
I am really delighted to have found your podcast tonight! I think your sweater project is going to tell you so much great info and it certainly will be fun to watch you make all of these. I am a huge Long Dog Yarn fan and that Rosegold is absolutely stunning so I can’t wait until you get to that one. ❤ Enjoy the journey! (Also voting for the Oslo sweater first.)
I vote both! 🤦♀️ They both offer something different so when you get a bit bored with one, you can hope onto the other, or that's my reasoning anyway! Yarn stash tour sounds amazing!
Selfishly I’m very invested in your Oslo sweater because I also have a pale purple yarn that needs a home! I totally agree that thick collar on it is gorgeous so maybe mine will become an Oslo sweater too
Lots of inspiration, thank you! Also, thank you for the recommendation for the row counters from Teice Sheared Sheep. I liked it so much that I ordered an extra set you use with larger needles. Your bright pink yarn reminded me that I have a bright pink intended for the Sock Arm Sweater...the torso will be pink, the arms are knit with self-striping sock yarn 😊
That’s awesome! I think I have four row counters now from Twice Sheared Sheep because I love them so much and use them on every project. That sweater sounds so fun!
I also saw Anthro Knits' post about the Semper Sweater vs the No Frills Sweater and added Semper to my queue for the same reason!! Been wanting a basic raglan and am excited for Sophie's pattern to be released. Can't wait to see yours!
I think the Oslo because you seemed more excited about the yarn. And you mentioned lacking motivation, so doing something you’re more excited about makes sense. Plus I’ve heard knitting with black yarn can get boring/tedious. I feel like I’m on a very similar knitting journey as you - trying to use stash and making some basic raglans and drop-shoulders! Can’t wait to follow along!
I am super excited about the yarn for the Oslo, and I totally forgot about how tedious the black yarn might get haha. I might have to take that one slow!
I loooove this idea. I keep thinking the same thing with the different but similar sweaters. We have a similar body type so I'm excited to see how this turns out. I would do the cardigan first with the increased time in the office. Orrrr second to break up the top downs. So not helpful lol
I really want to join you for an unofficial KAL of a Raglan and drop shoulder construction to figure out which style I like better! Such a good idea but I need to finish some WIPs first hehe😅
@@knitcalifornia I’m all for focusing on finishing something. However I also can’t always focus so I know to have at least 2 projects so I don’t miss knitting!
Just came across your podcast - really enjoyed it, thank you for the well considered breakdown of patterns and yarns for future projects. You had me intrigued by your comment about Knit Purl Girl's jersey compared to the No Frills Sweater, so my view is for Knit Purl Girls Sweater to be high on the top of the list. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it!
This is a great idea! After a couple years of making garments I've found that I usually prefer ease on the lower end of the recommendations, or even the size below! I'm not sure why, maybe because I'm also in California and huge sweaters are hotter than I need... I find I usually have to use thicker yarns than suggested for most Jessie Mae patterns -- her gauges are always really loose and I can't get a fabric I like with the recommended yarn weight, usually. And I vote the Oslo first -- might be nice to have a cardigan to break up the pullovers later in the season!
That’s a great solution for Jessie Mae patterns! It was surprising to see all the gauges and needle sizes lined up next to each other and the gauge on that pattern being so different! Wooo another vote for the Oslo Sweater!
In my opinion you need to start the darkest colours first the light in the winter is not so good for knitting dark colours, have you thought about knitting the musselburgh hat I think it will look good on you . Why not try socks with some of your single skiens
That’s a great point about knitting the black cardigan first! It’s since been cast on, but I haven’t gotten very far with it yet! The Musselburgh hat is on my list, but I’ve been so smitten with the Oslo hat that I need to make a couple and get it out of my system haha
Hi . I noticed 6 of your sweaters you plan to make are pretty much the same. I unfortunately knitted the no frill sweater and thanks to a podcaster who was the same build as me who had to make the extra small, I was forced to make the extra small instead of the medium. The bind off was too tight so I had to redo it because I’m not an extra small around my waist. My pattern limit is $5. I recently was given a coupon code for 25% off but it came out to $5.83 so I didn’t purchase it because it went over my limit. One of the patterns you want to make cost $12! It’s basically the no frills sweater which is half of that price. I feel as though I’m being ripped off by pattern designers so that’s why I set a pattern limit. No one is talking about that because designers work hard but when they’re putting out the same thing, why should we give in? Take care Rosy
Hi Rosalba, I talked in the video about how all six of these patterns are similar, classic shapes with three raglan designs and three drop shoulder designs. I want to compare the construction and final products to see which I like best and would recommend to others going forward. I would always recommend making a size that is right for your body, not based on the size someone else made. All patterns have you measure at your chest or at the widest part of your body and choose a size based on that and the recommended ease in the pattern. As for the pricing, designers spend so much time, effort, and money designing and releasing patterns. For some, it’s their full time job. I have seen this conversation play out from the designers perspective and honestly they are not charging enough for all the work they do and time they spend on one pattern. I personally don’t have a problem paying what the designers think their work is worth. Additionally, many patterns are sold at a discount when they are first released or during annual sales, and some designers have discount codes when you sign up for their newsletters. Some designers even have a pay-what-you-want/can-afford model, such as Jessie Maed Designs (Cozy Classic Raglan). I know pricing is a personal preference, but I always like to support fiber artists as much as I can.
Yes yes yes… to all of these yarns and knits! (Your color and style is so much like mine!)
♥️♥️♥️
Interesting experiment, and you will end up with 6 gorgeous sweaters, as all your yarn choices are beautiful.
Thanks, Rosemary! And it’ll be fun!

Love this! Looking forward to following along to hear your conclusions!!
Awesome thanks! ♥️

Have two going at a time is very appealing!! And glad you would be interested in a yarn stash tour! ♥️
Black cardigan ⭐️⭐️⭐️
♥️♥️♥️
I vote for the black cardigan next.
First vote!! ♥️♥️
Really enjoyable podcast, you've inspired me to knit some of these patterns! Thank you ❤️
Awesome! ♥️♥️♥️
You are a good yarn shopper!!!!
Haha thank you!! 😆

Yesss. Give me all the knitting plans and stash tours 😂 I love seeing what people are planning to make with their stash
🙌🙌🙌
So fun. I vote both, as everyone needs 2 projects in ase you need to put one into time out.
Haha so true!

I love this plan. I feel like I can learn a lot as well just watching your progress! Also, cast on the Oslo sweater first! It is gonna be gorgeous!
Wooooo thanks! I love the vote for the Oslo sweater too!
I loved this! I purchased a sweaters quantity of Fiadh as well! Obsessed with it. Can’t wait to see your fall/winter plans come to life! 💓
Thanks, Shala! I’m so excited to see how Fiadh knits up! It’s so pretty!

Haha yesssssss let’s go Meryl!! I’ll be knitting these all fall/winter so finish your WIPs and let’s do it!! ♥️♥️
I think you should cast on both so that when you get sick of black you can take a break
I have barrel aged sour by EKF! Just enough for a sock but it's SO SO GOOD
It’s so good! They’ll be beautiful socks!
I also want to make an Oslo hat!
I want to make like 6 Oslo hats at this point hahaha
Yay! I have fall sweater dreams~* rn, but no solid plans yet and you’ve inspired me with your pattern picks! Can’t wait to see your journey
Awesome! I’m sure your picks will turn out so nice! ♥️
I’d go with starting the Oslo hat and sweater!
Ooo don’t tempt me with starting with an Oslo hat! Haha I really want to cast one on
