Your kick was already nice and punchy man. EQ/Compression/effects are just extra nice sauce to put on an already nicely designed kick sound. The thing I want to learn is how to make my own kick drum punch/pop out of the speakers. I have tried a lot of different techniques but I must be doing something wrong. If the sound is shit, then it won't sound good in any effects. There aren't many tuts online to make kick sounds from scratch unfortunately. All these mixing tuts are good and I appreciate them, but I have not seen a tut that makes a sound I actually want to make, like the kick sound in this track
seamlessr has some kick tutorials and there is one from zen world, understand the technique and then you need to experiment and try out a lot of different small changes to get it to sound perfect/how you want it to sound. But i must say that you really need to know sounddesign and be patient to make really good synthesized drums, i would advise you to use good samples instead
@@prodbynsa3412 hey I looked at seamless. I understand the synthesis techniques but I feel its more than a synth. It is also really hard to find the right samples. I'd rather figure out how to make my own instead of scrolling through heaps of kicks that are not quite what I am after. Just have to keep experimenting. Cheers man.
@@destaana955 maybe you need to layer it more with other samples or synths, i just cant imagine that you cant find the specific type of kicks you search for, maybe you are a little to picky, sometimes you just need to tweak them a little more
Great video as always!! I’ve a question, is it ok to high pass the kick and bass at 68 Hz (more or less)?? I do that and then sidechain... I think it sounds good, what i don’t know if it’s ok to do that.. thankss
Pedro Pilutik if you like how it sounds, do it! Personally I wouldn’t go that high, that will take a lot of the sub punch from the kick, most kicks when played as they are will have fundamental frequencies around 50-60hz. If the kick and 808 clash, try Mirror EQ’ing, multiband sidechain compression, or just normal sidechain compression
Could you make a tutorial on dark trap?? 🤟🏽 that would be dope! You’re one of the best producers i’ve found on youtube that listen to your subscribers and helping them with tips that help out alot , it definitely helped me out!
Can you make a video on how to EQ and add effects to your melodies to help them sit together in the mix? Stereo seperation, ect. The drums are fine for me but I always struggle mixing melodies
Sidechaining is a quick way but you always gotta use your ears, if you don’t hear the clashing, you’re good. So many ways to fix the issue , but you hear it first!🙏
Hey man, do you or someone you can refer me to have a video explaining eq from beginning to end for absolute beginner's. I have been making beats for a long time now, but only had a computer and fl studio for a little while, and this shit is confusing trying to learn it on my own. See, my strong point is mixing tones very well together and getting the velocities on my sounds just right, but I never dove in to the eqing, which is probably the missing key to my already pretty well mixed beats. They just don't have that professional smack and thud that I need is all. Any advice would help. Thanks did it.
@@LifeStyleDidIt Yeah Thanks man, I was listening to your drums, and I'm like how in the hell are you getting that crisp, punchy full sound out of them like that. If you don't mind me asking, where or who did you learn how to do this from? Because if I can get my drums to sound like yours do, man...it's gonna be some stuff, but I know nothing about eq at all and it is something I definitely need and am going to get on right now. This db and numbers shit just confuses the hell out of me though is all, and I tend to block it out, but I am now realizing that my mixes are just not getting to how I need them to be. It's like from a 1 to 10, they are always at like a 7 or 8 soundwise. The mix is great, it just doesn't have that big crisp sound like your drums do right now. Thanks though.
Hey lifestyle I have a question about sending placement beats. Do you send them a mastered version or an unmixed/unmastered version? Or an unmastered version with some mixing because they will most likely buy the stems anyway right?
LifeStyleDidIt ah okay thank you! I was so confused because youtubers talk about placements but never say what version of a beat to send. I usually just leave the everything alone just add the instruments and arrange it because if they like it they’ll request stems to mix it anyways so I don’t think there’s no reason to send a mixed track as long as there is what you said headroom, I suppose.
I did like this mixing to tutorial nice and simple to the point, i was using a slightly different technique can you check my last beat and lmk what you think of the mix ?
the mix is solid, i would say cut a little bit more of the low end of the melody, and spread it a little more in the stereofield, and make the bass a little quieter and the kick a little louder, the rest is fine
Can you do a video where you mix the vocals to a Beat and go into detail and show us step-by-step and not even just one vocal we talkin about a whole song where there is a dad lives and everything
Lifestyle please do a new adwords tutorial, its a little different then it used to be and Im not completely sure how to just get my beats ranked better.
Can you show me how to EQ Melodys Stereo, Mono, Dynamic, Loudness?
Thx
Yes, this please
I always did this by ear, but the thing you mentioned about thinking of the frequency range as octaves is interesting. Thanks!!
Oscar Eliasson by ear is the way to go! But there definitely is math behind music and frequencies

I think sidechaining is one way to get around most of the clashing

What are the primary keyboard controls for Parametric EQ 2? It looks like you're adjusting the band width without adjusting knobs.
This is why I still only use stock parametric EQ2.
