Oh my goodness! When you started talking about Rook...lol. My grandparents, their friends and my parents used to play when I was a little girl. I can picture it in my head so clearly. Hi! I am also a Southern Lady who is left-handed and grew up with a mother, aunts & grandmothers who crocheted. My mother told me when I was about 12 and wanted to learn to crochet "oh, left-handed people can't do this...". So, I moved on to every other kind of stitching and sewing craft known to man and even painted for a few years. Then about 4 years ago in my 50s decided I really wanted to learn to knit, and if you also really want to learn that craft, let me tell you, it CAN be done by us people with our arms screwed on backwards!
Once I figured out that in knitting there is a "working needle" and a "holding needle" and the working needle is held in the dominant hand, that was my light bulb moment. When a right-handed knitter speaks about the right needle, that is the working needle. I taught myself by watching UA-cam videos on my phone in my hand mirror so I could see all the maneuvers in the reverse, and honey I was off to the races! Oh yes, I have had some snooty people in fancy knitting shops tell me "there is no such thing as handedness in knitting" (yes, there is!) and "you're doing it wrong" (no, I'm NOT!), so don't let anyone tell you that trash. My knitting comes out correct, so how am I doing it wrong? I am just creating stitches in the opposite direction, that's all.
So if you want some pointers, reach out, I'll be happy to share what I've learned. And I did go back to my Mama and ask her why she told me that all those years ago, and she said, "yeah, I knew it was a lie, I just didn't want to teach you, it was too much trouble." And she let me think that all these years! Southern Mamas, I tell you! So I told her I like knitting better than crochet anyway, so she can just keep her ugly old crochet, 😂! Just kidding. Love your show!

My daughter and I still cry every day for sweet baby Willow, who passed away on June 17th. Illbert, I'm rolling listening to your story about the freezing car ride and the newspaper to try and get warm, then almost going down an embankment!! Lol, sounds just like y'all have rode with me and my bestie. We have adventures like that all the time. Illbert, it's bad when you got to have a sweater in your car in Alabama in July!! It is nice to feel this colder weather. We’re in Northern California so it’s always a bit scary at the same time. We have been having our old snowpacks again before our droughts. So we had 7 ft of snow in a weekend in 2021 and in 2022 over a week we had 10 ft. Now that is separate from the 2-3 ft that fell weekly and would melt off. This year is another El Niño for us so more heavy snow, but hey we need it. These redwood trees have been thirsty for a long time.
I’m so ready for fall weather!
