  • Is the Artist TweedTone 20R loud enough to gig with? Absolutely! I'm totally digging this Artist TweedTone 20R amplifier for jam nights. I love the fact there's no need for overdrive or distortion pedals. The drive channel on the TweedTone 20R is about as good as it gets.

Cheers man. I think a huge percentage of the guys that make guitar videos on UA-cam don't leave their bedroom. I am going to feature more live stuff this year because it's where the gear counts the most in my opinion. thanks a lot mate :-)

Wow you guys sound amazing!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥 Personally, I appreciate how take gear that you review and use it in real world situations. When you do live streams, I noticed how often people ask you how certain pieces of gear sound and whether it’s worth buying. You have one of the few channels here on UA-cam that people can get an idea of how something sounds/works in a climate for what they were made. You and everyone in the band sound great in the clip I’d love to hear more of the jam!!! Cheers Shane!!!!🎸🎸🎸🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾

Damnit Shane! I only play 1920’s flapper style big band Jazz music. You NEVER attempt to demonstrate how well the gear produces vintage 1920’s jazz tones. Terrible reviews...smh...

The more I play my Tweed Tone 20R the more I love it. These things are unbelievable value and fantastic sound and volume.
Anyone who has the chance to buy one of these would be nuts to pass it up.

I hope that your amp is still functioning. Mine died after a couple of years. This is the problem with cheap Chinese amps.

I fully support the idea of showing a product in a live gig situation, it's a rare treat; after all that's where we're gonna use them. Thanks.

I thought I'd pass comment on my experience with my tweedtone 20r. I bought a customer return from the uk suppliers for cheap!. This was purely on the back of Shane and Brett Kingmans demos. It sounded great in my studio but I've only just used it in band rehearsal at gig volume. Firstly, I swore I'd never but another el84 amp as they can be spiky and harsh. Also the same for the 70/80 speaker. As Shane says, "it just works" and really well. For a cheap amp the circuit in these little things must be well designed. In a nutshell. It's well made. It is loud, but controllable. It has a great reverb. It has a genuinely great tone which works well for pedals and its light. I wholly recommend it as a go to rock, blues or country amp for any situation.

Thanks Shane. I can only echo what other viewers have said. It’s great to hear this amp in a live setting. I’ve traded in two big powerful amps recently which I’ve had for years for a Tweed amp with modified valves. In the home practice setting it’s terrific. I’ve even managed some pinched harmonics. Thumbs up from me about your endorsement.

The vox 15 watt amp was what most guitarist used back in the day. The vox 30 watt was not needed till all the screaming girls came along. I don't see any screaming girls, so I think you will be fine with 20 watts. Lol

    • @melvynobrien6193
      @melvynobrien6193 5 років тому +7

My main amp is a 65 VOX AC-15, with a tube rectifier; it's louder than a 45-watt Marshall DSL-401, which I got rid of; I don't like the fizzy sounds of Marshalls. My other live amp is a Peavey USA Classic 20; some tunes require both simultaneously.

    • @shaunw9270

Awesome ! I had the chance to buy a 60's AC15 from a local guitarist who had had his 15 mins of fame back in the day , touring Britain & Europe in the back of a Commer van etc lol...18 years ago I thought he was taking the piss when he asked £400 for it. Silly me. 😑

That’s great! You have a great combination of the SE and the Artist, the drive sounds like a great rock tones suitable for a lot of songs. Regarding the blues jr, I’ve not understood why it is so popular, and mine didn’t sound bad but was just adequate. I like the circuits from the tweed and blackface era. I guess we all have a guitar and amp that is inspiring to each of us. And don’t apologize for your playing, your chops are great, and I wish I could play riffs and fills while singing! Jealous! Peace thanks

My main takeaway from this: Is the Fender worth double the price for the tag? Based on what I heard I don't think so. The Artist has a footswitch available, too. Digital as opposed to tank reverb is only noticeable to other musicians. As a working musician I'm not playing for them, anyway.
Thank you for setting up a practical, real-time live situation. Thank your friends as well. They're all fine players as are you. This amp along with a TC-59 I just purchased will take care of every need I have. All the best from this side o' the ditch. 🇳🇿 🎸🎶👌

I've found that the drive circuit looks like some kind of tube screamer, there's also a status led inside the chassis for the drive channel!!?? I've built a foot switch for the drive channel with an effects loop in it, in that loop I put a black Star LT Dual pedal
It works like this, set the drive channel for your lead tone ,when you select the clean channel it switches in the loop with the blackstar in it which is set for crunch and a different lead tone if required, you get four switchable
Sounds this way, I put a blue LED in the footswitch for the drive channel too!

Got mine today in the USA had to wait 6 months for the amp to be made and to get here by ship. So far playing at home a nice clean sound I play Strats & Teles with pedals so I love the clean side. Came just in time for my gig tomorrow. I'm going to play some more with it see if I get the right tone for tomorrow or I'll bring my Supro or Ampag but they are just 15 watt I like this 20 watt Artist so far.

Interesting, you haven't been a fan of the celestions, but you really like this amp and the Marshall DSL 40. I think something happens when we crank our amps - our ears just love it. Very good video . Perhaps a live performance with this amp using the Tele would have also been interesting as the tonality of a PRS can fatten things up. I enjoy your playing. Thks.

I was thinking of getting a new combo, a Vox AC15. But now, seeing as Artist Guitars are nearby where I live in Sydney and have always been good to me, I reckon this could be the one. With or without pedals (I likes using the preciouss pedals) it seems like its well-voiced for either approach.

Hiya all !!!!! I have one of these, and it has been my gigging amp since I have had it,.. Why, because, it is lighter, and at the moment, it sounds better than my other two famous name amps. True. I do have a suggestion and question for Shane, should not ALL guitar amps be mic-ced thorough the PA., no matter how little the volumes are? Either get a long lead, or the Xvive Wireless, and walk around the room. Which ever amp you are closest to, stops you hearing all the other guitar amps. This doesn't apply to drums or base guitar. This is an obvious fact. For example, last Sunday I used my un mic-ed JCM, and standing on the other side of an acoustic, would you believe, I could not hear myself, in spite of turning up a fair bit. The acoustic was ID-ed of course, but if I had been mic-ed, it would have come thorough the PA and all cool. I have played in a lot of places where, with big stages, the guys spread out, and one amp just drowns the rest, depending on where you stand..

Interested in the way you have the master up full but the channels down lower, do you feel the tone is better? Better gain/distortion sound? Interested in your thoughts, and is it loud enough for a say, a RSL gig? Lou

Nice! That tone on the lead starting at 2:56 is really great. So this is just the dirty channel of the Artist 20R right? No OD pedals?
BTW, hang on to that drummer. What a great sense of dynamics... that's hard to find.

      Hi Spencer,
No pedals just the amp mate. :-)

Hi mate. How would the tweed 20 compare to the blackstar studio 10 6l6. In your opinion.
    Cheers.
