The Autobot Matrix of Leadership is basically a complex and compact massive data storage unit that holds the personalities of past Autobot leaders who were downloaded into moments before death and the current Matrix holder can access their combine knowledge when the leader needs great wisdom to win whatever the current conflict is. It's also essentially a doomsday weapon for the Autobots as a last resort (light our darkest hour) measure as was when they used it to destroy Unicron and cure the Hate Plague. And as seen in Transformers The Movie when Hot Rod became Rodimus Prime, it also has limited reformatting abilities. Depending on how heavily it's used, it needs recharging from millions of years to almost immediately (ie. when they drained it during the Hate Plague incident). Some Cybertronians considers it a myth. Autobots considers it their answer to Excalibur while the Deceptions considers it to be a cursed object since it could bring about their doom. A mystical slayer of world eaters and curer of plagues.
That's my theory on the Matrix.

There's only one thing I disagree with - The Decepticons have no reason to fear the Matrix. It's not meant to bring about their doom. It was made to be used by Cybertronians. In fact, a Decepticon could wield and house the matrix, as long as they weren't corrupted by Unicron.

    • @freakctc
      @freakctc 4 роки тому +4

@manofsteel33 G1 Scourge was altered/created by Unicron. That was the reason it had the effect it did, not because he was a Decepticon. It would be the equivalent of a person who sold their soul to the Devil trying to touch Holy Water.
The Decepticons physically are no different than Autobots. Any Decepticon would be just as able to handle the Matrix as Ultra Magnus did.

Mine is similar: My theory is that the matrix was originally a backup drive for the spark/personality component of some ancient leader. It was one of several artifacts, & would basically grant immortality.
Somewhere along the way that was forgotten (or was kept secret to all but a few) & it got passed down to new leaders. It does store accumulated wisdom, but as a by-product.
This explains how OP kept coming back & why he was a virtual zombie until the matrix went back in him. It also explains why Alpha Trion was inside the matrix, but in a different color scheme. He must have installed it at an earlier time (when he used a dif color scheme) & then stepped down, passing it to Optimus.

    • @dmangelsm1188

manofsteel33 I think the reason Ultra Magnus couldn't access the matrix is that it had already bonded with the next robot that came in contact with it: Hot Rod, when he caught it.

"Each Prime carried with him not only a Spark, but also a life giving power source called the Matrix, undiluted essence of Primus himself. The Matrix could be utilized not only imbue new creations with Sparks, but also to repair and reinvigorate those critically injured on the battlefield. It´s Power will be used at the discretion of the Prime. The Matrix also serves as a window to the past... or future."
    Transformers The Ultimate guide.
This piece gives us a lot of information about the Matrix. We may say the Matrix is an Artifact which not even the Prime who holds it knows it´s full power. That is why a certian times the weilder didn´t know how or when to use it There it´s lso said in the Ultimate guide, the Matix is a piece of the Spark of Primus. So we can tell it´s still a sacred Powerful artifact for the transformers.

In beast wars rinox warns primal about primes spark saying " his spark CONTAINS the matrix it too powerful" meaning they knew he carried the matrix of leadership and that it was fused with optimus primes spark. It was both the power of primes spark and the matrix of leadership that transformed primal into optimal optimus.

My theory is that Prime's spark had merged with the matrix as all previous welders, giving the current bearer across to their knowledge, wisdom, experiences, etc. That would retcon beast wars in another way different from Primeval Dawn. Also why Optimus could be controlled by the Quintessons in Dark Awakening since he was a soulless puppet like Age of Extinction Galvatron. That theory would require unnerving for events like Rodimus giving it back, I realize.
A great compilation video, always fun learning about the Japanese shows. I also sigh in exasperation about Prime Wars trilogy. A stain on the franchise, animation, and story telling.

Personally for G1, I think Optimus originally never took the matrix with him to earth he took the retrofit spark holder as a decoy incase a decepticon knew what it was (or thought it was the matrix, giving him a backdoor to return if destroyed), because when escaping Cybertron he had no idea when or if he would return and suspected that the decepticons would attack the ark and decided that taking the matrix with him was too risky as it was likely the decepticons would destroy him outright and with autobots left on Cybertron there would at least be the chance for another Prime should his mission fail.
His matrix style spark holder is then irreparably damaged in "divide and conquer" so when he is cloned in "a prime problem", it isn't there so he doesn't have an easy way to prove his identity. Then at some point after that and prior to the movie, he retrieved the real matrix and Ratchet First Aid and Sparkplug repaired his chest properly as human technological advancements made it easier to replicate Cybertronian components, though some parts still needed to be manufactured else where like Metroplexs transforming cog (either due to materials needed for construction or to stop centralisation to prevent decepticons disruption of a supply chain)

the beast wars one is just an error or a unique take on the matrix. when they are talking about moving it, rhinox first says "we'll never make it, his spark is already joining the matrix" but then tells primal "His spark has the matrix with it, it's too powerful" . so it sounds like it's both separate and a part of the matrix at the same time. like his spark "holds" the matrix while he lives, but then when he dies, it gets absorbed by it. that's how i interpreted it when i first watched it.

So each Transformer has their own spark which gives them life. A leader holds the Matrix which is, more or less, a Super USB that has an auto save function that accumulates all of experience and knowledge gained until it's time to pass it on to another. When transferred to a new leader, the Matrix also has an upgrade feature that enhances the new leader in order for that Transformer to be able to utilise that knowledge and experience in a practical way instantly.

  • @ronaldorejalde3338

My theory is that half of primals spark was merged from the matrix which is how he became a prime with the matrix still having the power to being passed with other rightful owners, and as you said, the matrix can obly be passed with the rightful owner, i think primal is one of the rightful owner which is how he can get hold of the matrix but he didnt want to change the future for being the leader of the autobots instead he gave it to prime, i think hes intent is to fix the matrix for it to work again by fusing half of hes spark into the matrix.

I have a theory that the Cybertronian Creation Matrix was possibly intended for all Transformers, but over time the Autobot faction began to hog it until they achieved a monopoly. It could serve as a major motivator for Decepticon angst and animosity, as well as a source of guilt for Optimus.

  • @samuelmeyer1024
    @samuelmeyer1024 6 років тому +2

My original head-canon prior to my discovery of "Primeval Dawn" was that Orion Pax inherited The Matrix upon his conversion to Optimus, Carried it throughout most of The Great War, And left it on Cybertron (Possibly safeguarded by Alpha Trion and/or The female Autobots) prior to the Ark launch as a precaution in any event Prime would be missing. At an undisclosed time between 1985 and 2005, The Matrix was recovered from Cybertron.
This was my hypothesis for The Matrix being absent from Prime's person between The Ark Launch and the year 2005.

For the cartoon stuff/animation errors. Technically speaking, BW did have it right as Prime's spark became one with the matrix upon being chosen to have it. Per G1 season 3's FFOD episodes with Rodimus as it shows all prime's of the past are one with the matrix, Optimus included. This is further mentioned in later episodes as how the matrix returned a part of Rodimus to him when he got it back from scourge, as well as how the Matrix overrode the Quintesson programming of the zombie Optimus. The matrix having a piece of their sparks upon being its chosen wielder, meant they were literally getting a part of themselves back in how their sparks were now part of the Matrix itself. Waking Optimus up from the brainwashing as it returned a part of himself to himself. Which further explains the BW reference itself. As the matrix is the 'spark holder' for Optimus, though it's also the Matrix itself. A chosen becomes one with the matrix. Their essence being added to the collective wisdom within it. This in turn being why it 'boosts' those that were chosen to wield it. Hot Rod becoming Rodimus, Primal becoming Optimal, and in Optimus' case, going from Orion to Optimus with A3's help in creating a vessel that was worthy of the Matrix.
So while it was an "animation error" as claimed, it also wasn't. And was accurate to the established lore. But as part of BW's story, much of the ancient lore wasn't always put on data tracks correctly either. Which explains the axalon crew's ignorance of it as well. But a chosen wielder is a chosen wielder, and unlike Ultra Magnus, the Matrix felt that Primal was worthy. And until Prime's body was repaired, did need to be housed in a living bot, as per how the Matrix is passed on down. Where it only goes 'inert' or 'inactive'/dormant, when not housed in a living bot or within vicinity of a living bot. Though also does seem to have a sense of humor as to how it reacts to Scourge including as mentioned how scourge was also a twisted reformat as performed by unicron. (Speaking only of the G1 animated iteration at least.)
The matrix not being seen in season 1-2, can also be explained away as it was simply still within the casing within prime's torso, and cannot be damaged by most normal means. Even if prime were to explode, the only way for the Matrix itself to go "dead' or 'inactive' is for it to be without host for a prolonged duration, or to remain within a dead host for a prolonged duration. Though a host can also apparently mean a form of charge station, as it seems a host does not need to be sentient per the JG1 story points. Only that the host itself cannot be deceased and without spark or energy function to fuel and channel into the matrix as a chosen "spark" does. Which acts normally in a symbiotic relationship. The matrix gaining the essence and knowledge of that Prime, as it also grants the wisdom and strength of prime's past when it was intact and full. The lack of wheeljack or Ratchet knowing this can also be explained away as that only A3 and Optimus knew of it, as the Matrix itself was only a myth until Prime actively revealed it in TFTM as the myth being true. His core casing being both the way it was hidden, protected, and away from prying eyes so that the Matrix was only a myth until revealed. The stuff bots only told each other of, or heard of in data tracks, but never knew for certain was real until the day came it was revealed. Which can also be explained in how the Quintessons hid this truth from cybertronians when they shackled Primus into becoming a manufacturing world for them to turn this species into a manufacturing good to be sold off. They themselves being of a different techno-organic life, with origins not fully yet explored, but also harboring a hatred for other robotronic sentient life across the cosmos. Whether it be other spawned, Unicron spawned, or Primus spawned. To them, it is all something to disdain for reasons as yet ever explored. But their lies and experiments a constant cloud of confusion over the history of such worlds as oppressors of their individual developments.
So TL;DR version, when Orion died to become optimus, A3 merged Pax's original spark with the matrix. Whereas with Hot Rod/Rodimus, it would only do so at death(Pax did die to become Prime, Hot Rod didn't). So in BW, Prime's spark was the matrix already. Which is why Zombie prime was 'soulless' until the matrix restored it. In season 1-2, this was only myth and the black box holding the matrix in Prime's chest was a hidden secret from everyone until it finally did need to be actually passed on in TFTM. A3 being ever so sneaky like that.

    • @TheStainlessSteelCat42
      @TheStainlessSteelCat42 6 років тому +2

I know. This video was great, I'm not criticizing. As I'm sure you know Call of the Primitives is a very weird episode, and quite hard to resolve with the law, both in the G1 cartoon continuity and the expanded G1 continuity. Best watched when high on sugar as I did when I was a kid. It attempts to create an origin story for both the Matrix and Unicron but ended up creating more plot holes than it fills.
My personal way of explaining it is as follows: Primus and Unicron are extra dimensional beings descended from 'The One'. They fight and Primus ended up wounded in our universe. Slowly matter collected around him to create the planet Cybertron, and as life evolved on him naturally he reached out and communicated with it, via the matrix and the creation of Vector Sigma.
At some point the Qunitisons arrived and enslaved all life on Cybertron turning the indigenous peoples into slaves which they mass produced.
At some point before this Primus communicated and worked with the scientist Primacron, however in their collaboration Unicron saw a method in which he could reach our universe and finally destroy his ancient enemy. He reached out to Primacron and mentally corrupted him, convincing him to make a physical form for Unicron to inhabit. Primus was unable to stop this and so Unicron's body was created which eventually grew to be the planet eating planet we know and love.
After the events of Transformers the Movie, Unicron lay defeated stuck in the damaged head of his body orbiting his ancient enemy. He again reached out to Primacron to create another form for himself. This time of pure energy. (Tornedron). However Primus was able to engineer events to stop this. Allowing Grimlock to stop him.
Note: This is just my own fan theory. It doens't really have any true basis in the law, however I think it makes things fit together in a cool way....

      The Stainless Steel Cat
In that episode, Primus wasn't entered into canon yet. The inventor Primacron invented Unicron and his successor. The primitives came together and defeated this successor. It was also revealed in season three that the Quintessons were the creators of Cybertron and it's inhabitants. The notion of Primus and Unicron being deities came much later.

Some alternate thoughts about the Beast Wars Matrix thing...
Rodimus had to be incapacitated to use the Matrix to enter the afterlife. Maybe since Optimus was in a (very long) coma during the events of Beast Wars, his spark was actually in there at the time.
This explanation admittedly works a little better for G1 since it never necessarily showed a spark as a physical object, whereas in Beast Wars we do see this, or at least spark chambers. Still, it's something that's made of energy, so I don't see why it can't move around in a body.
It fits with the spiritual underpinnings of the idea pretty well. A spark is more or less the transformer equivalent of the human idea of a soul -- that there is some energy or essence of a person that animates a physical body, but isn't the body in itself. The Dreamwave guidbook described sparks as being spread through a transformer's body in this way. If that was the case (at least for G1 transformers) it's plausible that the spark of an Autobot leader would rest in the Matrix (or be accessible through it at least) while incapacitated.
It's also possible that an Autobot leader's spark would animate the Matrix in some way while he holds it as a part of him -- at the very least we know that the Matrix contained a measure of the essense of Rodimus (he was Hot Rod without it). Maybe whatever part of the Matrix that had a similar (if invisible) effect on Prime. The point here is that there's a sense that the leader is "one" with the Matrix in some way, arguably a part of his body, so once again Prime's life force could reasonably be a part of it.
When I think about that the episode doesn't strike me as an animation error so much as something that could have been worded better.

When I saw the Transformers Animated movie, I was really surprised on so many things.
    1. The arrival of Unicron and the lack of his backstory therein.
    2. The death of Optimus Prime and some G1 Transformers.
    3. Weren't there 5 Dinobots? Why is it that only 4 were shown in the movie?
    4. There are so many mechanized animals wherever the transformers go such as robotic octopus and sharks.
    5. The Quintessons (who were the creators of the Transformers) doesn't seem to realize that Hot Rod and Kupp are Transformers considering that they have Autobot insignia.
    6. How did the Decepticons were always able to reach the Autobot ships that they were planning to ambush despite the long, light years of gap between them?

Do I think it was the Matrix of Leadership in BW? Yes. I do. Regardless of anyone saying it was a mistake. It was the vehicle they decided to use modifying Optimus Primal via the way Hot Rod was also modified.
Consequently, the writers of Transformers the Movie could have avoided so much controversy had they retained the initial concept of Power Convoy from Diaclones. Had they made Ultra Magnus an improved Optimus Prime, most of those letters stop. Also, they could have converted other fallen autobots into new versions as well. Springer, Kup, etc. could have all been the fallen autobots we saw lose their lives unceremoniously in the film.
It also would have balanced the scales of justice in the film. Why is there no death for Megatron? He gets an upgrade and lives to fight on in Season 3?

So I was playing around with my Titan return figures this week when I was reminded of the episode, City of Steel.
For those who don't remember this one its where Megatron takes over New York and starts to turn it into New Cybertron. Part of the episode Prime is caught in Central park with a pit trap, then Megatron orders the autobots to retreat or he'd melt Prime down for scrap.
Later megatron does have Prime dismantled. His head is left on a shelf as is his feet. His right arm and gun are placed on the outside of the Empire state building as a defensive turret. And the rest of him is turned into a giant robot alligator. which is given a basic vehicon brain and turned loose in the sewers.
This got me wondering. How could the Constructicons miss the matrix chamber when they used primes body for the Gatorcon.

In beast wars, when optimus prime was dying and primal was attempting to save his spark rinox can be heard saying "his spark contains the matrix it's too powerful" indicating that what primal was pulling out of primes chest was in fact the matrix of leadership not a spark containment vessel. As a fan of the G1 series and beast wars it is not confusing at all. Primals body was transformed by both the power of optimus primes spark and the matrix of leadership.

    • @RodimusPrimal

Quite honestly I think the Matrix was in Prime on the episode divide & conquer only thing it was cover by a hidden chest plate inside Prime. In Transformers the Movie it show when Prime open his chest there's a chest plate that hold the matrix. When Prime give the Matrix to Ultra Magnus Prime's spark is one with the Matrix. But on the episode Dark Awaken Prime don't have the chest plate in him that an error on there part.

I've always wondered if the only reason why the matrix didn't unlock for Ultra Magnus is because Unicron is considered to be the bigger threat to the universe than the Decepticons. I've also wondered if any other Autobots who were inside Unicron at the near end of the movie would be able to unlock the matrix, or would it just be always Hot Rod who would be the one to unlock it? ( I've always felt like it was too convenient for him to be in the "right place, right time" to be the one to unlock it.) The only other Autobots I know that were in there were BumbleBee, Cliffjumper, Jazz, Arcee, Springer, Ultra Magnus, and Kup. So if any one of them got their hands on the matrix & managed to unlock it, who would he/She (in Arcee's case) be called?

You overlooked the fact that Primacron's "assistant" in "Call of the Primitives" seemed to look exactly like the Matrix of Leadership. As for where the matrix actually was during season 1/2 of the show, I believe it was stored somewhere besides within Optimus (maybe somewhere on Cybertron, in Alpha Trion's possession). Optimus didn't require it to become what he was, since his updated form was a result of A3 fixing him (maybe guided by the matrix however).
