As a heads up, you could have left the gallery as you had it after throwing and then the locking disc could have been shaped like a teardrop (the technical term would be "cam"). When the knob is turned, the wider portion of the teardrop would rotate toward the middle of the lid and disengage with the gallery rim.
i thought thats what she was doing, but i think it couldn't be done that way because she wanted the image of it locking and unlocking coming from the mechanism
As always, I love your videos, you speak as your thinking and all the processes you think you may use our not come out. That was meant to be a complement, promise, it's what makes your videos so enjoyable. It may sound chaotic to you, however you work through it and to help us understand you talk us through your though process. Don't ever stop. This was a technical nightmare and you worked it out. 🎉😮😊
Sometimes it helps to make a cardboard mockup to get a "function fit" for the way it goes. That way you can see if it's right or needs an alteration. Once the mockup works properly you can then commit to the risking of clay.
STUNNING! Not only has your ceramic work surpassed your own expectations, but your videos continue to get more & more impressive with time. Can't wait to see what you make next!
And for me, by the time I remembered how to unlock the jar, I would realize that, yeah I don't really need a cookie that bad after all, and I would put it away. Good way to keep me on my diet!😅 (Yes, I saw the 🙂 and x. Do you really think that's going to help when I have brain fog? Nah...)
I love it! I paint textured/mixed media abstract works, and my theme the past few months has been "alien artifacts from an archaeological dig on another planet," and this vessel looks like it'd fit in with everything from that theme. It's mysterious and looks ancient, but also a little extraterrestrial? I just love it.
As a chronic viewer of ceramic porn I had noticed Andrew's work as well. As a hand builder I have a hard time deciding whether it's worth making open topped round vessels with hand building when they're so much faster and really better done on the wheel. I really enjoyed seeing you reproduce one of these locking pots and it makes me want to reconsider hand building one.
Wow gorgeous and functional but it sounds to complicated for me to try. I love watching all the great things you make and as I’m from England it’s fun to watch you do the great pottery throw down stuff. Season 7 started 4 weeks ago and it’s fantastic so far and I hope I can watch the Canadian throw down too ❤️
8 months later and im watching again. Just the other day i watched again your throw down making your cotton reel pot, i watched it thinking im sure ive seen you make a locking pot, so after finishing that video i went for a route around in you videos and found the locking pot. and i found my previous comment sitting there staring back at me. will sit and enjoy, pleased with myself for trying to sort my head space out. thankyou x
Please add a garlic-paste plate to your kitchen essentials collection. I've been looking at them & I love them. Would love to see what you'd do with it.💙 ❤❤❤
Would be interesting to see a fusion of different styles. For example, a mixture of cardboard and high-tech, to make it seem like you fixed high-tech with cardboard, and maybe also using tape to patch a few holes and cracks (in which case you would need to carve what would seem like the tips of the hole/crack covered by tape, and you could try using some tape over actual pieces of dried clay (even if not fired), to get an idea of how it would need to look like.
To make your imprints more rounded and not as sharp, you could try and press it through cling film or some kind of foil to make it more dome shaped. I love it. It's so cool!
Unless that piece that exploded was the only piece in the kiln it was from moisture that made it explode! I can’t believe all the work you did to make this. What an amaaazing pot. I had to watch the part where you crated the arts several times to figure it out. lol. Should have am watched the end first to find out how it worked first. Very very cool!!
So happy to see you happy and wow your skills are growing and growing and really the sky is the limit love your work and enthusiasm and curiosity and willingness to try try and keep on trying until you nail it and you absolutely did!!! 🥰🤩😍
Honestly adore this video -- the kind of joy from having a project turn out just the way you wanted is the feeling that we all chase as potters, and those high highs make all the lows (kiln disasters, uneven drying, random cracks, glaze issues) so worth it. Thanks for sharing ❤❤
Just started following you and just started my pottery hobby/side hustle. I've watched the kiln setup , and all related. Thank you so much for sharing your skills with us. I am looking forward to all your videos. Thank you very much. 🙂✌️
Love the wash. I’m testing a mason stain as a wash right now. But I also love the idea of using underglaze as a wash because I have more colours to choose from.
I really, really love your videos and how you show us your process of figuring out how to make it work. It's inspirational :D and this was a great jar :D
I would recommend making a test mechanism from cardboard or plastic or wood in order to see how to make it work. But you really made something amazing! Be proud that you can!
Omg I love love this and @andclark! Trying to grab one of his counting cups for a minute ❤🎉 I can’t wait to try- ur amazing for all the tips and these videos!
I love this jar! Congratulations! 👏 I would love to make one! You could store dry goods , like rice or pasta in this jar. Thank you for a most inspiring video !
This is gorgeous. the way Andrew's work has inspired you is the same way that your work inspires me. first to do a line of rainbow grog cups and now i want to combine both to make funfetti cookie jars
Such an awesome job! Super super impressed with this for your second attempt at making something like this - it's so complex! And thank you so much for sharing Andrew Clark with those of us who haven't come across his work before
Love this video so much! Your steps are so clear and now that I have made my first teapot (throwing) you are inspiring me to try this!! You are the best
@@PotterytothePeople Yes the East has long skinny butter sticks and the West has short and stout butter sticks. East coast is 12.1 cm long by 3.2 cm and West coast is 8 cm by 3.8 I just learned that recently
Totally awesome!!🤩 The weirdest thing is that just last night I was thinking about making a jar with a locking lid!! And like magic your video pops up today! My idea was not even close to as cool as your piece though. I was thinking of something simpler that could be used on an urn. Are urns supposed to be sealed once the ashes have been added?
This seems already the first episode in "steal like an artist". I like it!
hehe nice catch!!! That was totally the inspiration behind it. :)

I had to think a few minutes about this, but yeah that would work 🧐😊

Very clever. :)
Congratulations 🎉 that is an amazing build! I am so happy that you went back to that project and posted the win. Well done❤
Thank you so much!🥰 It was very satisfying
I love how you show us your problem solving! Thank you!
Oh, such a fun video, and I had no idea that's even possible with clay. Mindblown!

That happy dance at the end was everything! Keep up the amazing work :)

I need to try this! I loved the design and was very relieved when you hammered the lock and it started working again 🤩
I love your smile when something youre not sure is gonna work, works perfectly :) so inspiring
Ohhh yaaay, that's amazing! Made me super happy to see you so happy 😀 🎉
Thank you!!! This honestly was so fun to make :)
You did a great job and you're so right with what you said at the end, we're able to do so much more than we think, just try and trust the process 👏
This is a perfect cookie jar! I love it!
Thank you! 🥰

Oooh that's spot on! What a cool idea.
Absolutely delightful! Very cool design
not someone I expected to see at all on a pottery video lol
For the rivets look I always use the cap of a Bic pen!
The end result is amazing!! Great job!🤩🤩
Genius!! Thank you!
I was so excited right along with you. This is gonna be a great year. I'm looking forward to watching you, learn and teach us.
Me too!! Thanks for watching!
That's such a fantastic jar! Amazing how you made it! You are a true pro! You are!🌻

As a fellow hand builder I say…”DOOO IT!!!”
I am very happy for you! Keep going! Thank you for sharing all this pottery knowledge with us!! Kisses from Greece ❤ !

Another stunning project, loved watching the video and your work- and most of all thought process 😜

Congratulations Maya! You smashed it - tidying up your unfinished business with the Great Pottery Throwdown in the eve of the next season!
Love seeing you figure this out in real time. Congrats on a big success! 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you! It was a tricky one but also super fun! ❤️
WOW. I just can't even understand how awesome this all is. The speckles on that underglaze are amazing!
Love this. Would love to see this metal look glaze.
That would be cool!
I love this! I really like the way your content is shot. The lighting and composition are so pleasing. 🤩

Thank you!! I am so confused about that pot. I agree it must have been water, but it had been drying way longer than I normally dry things... so odd!
I think the fails in ceramics make the successes that much more exciting! Great job on this project, and thanks for the inspiration.
Absolutely amazing 🎉 You can be very proud of yourself ❤
Thank you!
I ordered the book Steal like an artist. You are so refreshing.
This video makes me so happy! I'm inspired to go and make something I can be as proud of as you are 😁😁
do it! It is the most fun :)

Aw thanks 🥰
This jar is fabulous. I’m not a potter but just loved watching you make this. Thank you.
It makes me happy to see you so stoked about something you made - beautiful to watch :) (and the jar is lovely too!)
For the butter in the states, we have 2 main styles. The style > of the Mississippi is longer and narrower than the style < of the Mississippi.

Yay!!! I am excited but also nervous hahaha

FYI on the butter dish - butter dimensions in the US are different depending on which side of the Rocky Mountains you are on :) love the jar!
oh no! Is one more common?? I only ever saw the long stick.
That butter dish should work in the U.S. They are so pretty.
