I'll never forget the night Gloria Swanson was in the front row of Carol's studio audience. She said she enjoyed the Nora Desmond skits and gave her full approval. Such a classy lady!
Everyone is always so obsessed with the Miss. Wiggins character( whis is good for sure) however Nora Desmond is my favorite by far! The over the top campy costuming actually is beyond brilliant and always makes me need my inhaler after watching a skit because of the constant purely genius jokes that still catch me off guard!
Ah,there'll only be one Nora Des...er I mean Carol Burnett. That whole group of comedians and guest-stars were terrific, very funny and incredible actors. What a show !
I wanted to watch this so badly to laugh, because I know it would make me laugh, and then Lyle walks in. My uncle was his doppelgänger. Even height and build were the same, but my uncle was born in 1953, not 1935. He was only 12 years older than me and passed suddenly in December 2020. He was more like my big brother than an uncle, per se. I just realized I am still very raw emotionally as soon as I saw Lyle, who also passed a few months before my uncle. Now I’m sobbing instead of laughing. 💔
Who knew John Byner could do an impersonation of a duck doing an impersonation of Georgie Jessel!!?? Freaking amazing!! (Yes, I know who *all* those people were!! LoL I'm *old*!! LoL!)
CAROL, required TV on Sundays. Literally made my dysfunctional family truly laugh . AH GOOD CLEAN FUN. i busted a gut evertime, especially when she did Nora Desmond. Vicki Lawrence, Harvey Korman, & Tim Conway were perfect w CAROL BURNETT. Those were the days...🥇😊😙🌷
Epic silliness!! Fun to see some of the last crazy physical humor, now an extinct form. Sometimes they seemed to defy gravity. JOhn Byner and, especially, Harvey Korman are CB's great foils (and, or course, Tim Conway).
"The last disease she got is now in the Hollywood WAAAXX Museum." "The what?" *Nods head sarcastically* "The Hollywood WAAAXX Museum... that's all we need, funny doctors." That plus the grin on Lyle Wagganer's face after the final slap out the door were hilarious...I love the unscripted moments.
Oh man that was funny! Not just the script - but the costumes, including hair or no hair- those poor dangling melons - the over the top slippers, I mean- slappers! Just so gooood! 😂
Harvey cracked up from Season 1 and many times at Lyle too. Most times Hamilton chose to air the show (they always did a 'dress' first) where he didn't. But with Conway who only cared about making Harvey laugh (which I found tedious) he would deliberately air that one. There was no laughing in the dress shows because Conway played the script. This whole notion that Harvey only laughed with him is absurd. If they would release all the tapings you would see Carol is the one he broke up with the most. And at least I can see why. Never got it with Conway. No laughs. Just waited for the next sketch.
I remember the first time I watched this sketch with my mom almost 20 years ago. Once the music starts playing and John Byner sings, "We are gathered here today...," we lost it.
John Byner doing impression the famous old Toastmaster person, George Jessel.. who was head of all Roasts and tributes back in the day.. DEAD on Impression.. This sketch was very loose.. so inventive.. the writing was ok, but the inventiveness of the performers made this sketch work.. John was a great sketch player.. ONe of my fav Nora Desmond sketches..
The truly funniest in this show was Harvey Kohrman (Erich VonStronheim) Norma Desmond’s chauffeur. The only one who makes me laugh, When I rewatched it many times. “Madam, is that you?” John Byner, also a good impersonator, did a great Georgie Jessel. Carol Burnett weekly TV show at their peak late 60’s-early 70’s.
Good question. I had to check dates, but see Mary Pickford was still living (mentioned at 3:35), was wondering if she saw this,; saw any humor in it? There were still many Silent Film actresses living at this time, have wondered what they thought (I know Gloria Swanson loved it).
Carol Burnett is one of the great all time TV and her Movies of all time. This lady was simply hilarious at everything she did. And had a great all time cast that complemented each other's characters.I also especially loved her in Momma's family.
I'll never forget the night Gloria Swanson was in the front row of Carol's studio audience.
She said she enjoyed the Nora Desmond skits and gave her full approval. Such a classy lady!
That's why Carol invited her to be a guest on her show..........
I've heard that the only thing bigger than Swanson's talent was her heart.
QUEEN.
Gloria Swanson was a yogini.
Gloria was a good SPORT!!! THAT says it ALL!!!
That's a beautiful coat Nora Desmond is wearing.
Nobody better or funnier on the Burnett show than Harvey Korman. The Eric Von Stronheim act my favorite
Simply one of the most hysterical characters she's ever portrayed. And I sympathize with her too
You might have missed Burnett's Joan Crawford! Oh the eyebrows - and the walk,!
Wow, Carol Burnett has powerful lungs!
And throat! How she can scream and shriek like that and not damage her throat and vocal cords, I don't know! 😵 😱
Don't forget her famous Tarzan yell! Probably kept her pipes in top shape. I've loved her all my life. There is no one else like her.
Lyle even gets Harvey to crack up a bit...
I love it....hilarious! :D
It seemed to be an ongoing effort for the cast members to crack each other up, and the audience benefitted from it.
Setebos true love your comment sweetie
Everyone gets Harvey to crack up. That's why he's the world's greatest straight man for comedies
Brilliant George Jessel imitation by John Byner. A fully skit by all involved.
This was the nuttiest skit of hers I've ever seen.
Bob Mackie is a freakin GENIUS
"What does the doctor know about dying...?" LOOOOLLL :) :) I will never stop loving my Carol Burnett :) :)
After the first 30 seconds, Lyle and Harvey are both fighting their urge to break character. A real tribute to the ability of the show's writers.
Comedy genius
My adoration for Nora Desmond will never die!
Ah,there'll only be one Nora Des...er I mean Carol Burnett. That whole group of comedians and guest-stars were terrific, very funny and incredible actors. What a show !
Eric Beaulieu it's terrific I know love your comment sweetie

she is the most talented of all talents! that Carol
grace t absolutely I agree with you a million percent love your comment sweetie
I knew the performers were the greatest, but watching these again, I’m impressed with the caliber of the comedy writing. It all came together.
Who knew John Byner could do an impersonation of a duck doing an impersonation of Georgie Jessel!!?? Freaking amazing!!

Burnett..... Queen of Comedy!!👑🎭😃
Epic silliness!! Fun to see some of the last crazy physical humor, now an extinct form. Sometimes they seemed to defy gravity. JOhn Byner and, especially, Harvey Korman are CB's great foils (and, or course, Tim Conway).
The so many different sets they had on this show were absolutely amazing.
Carol Burnett, thank you for all your greatest 🙂
Love Nora's ta-ta's!
Wurld Travlr She said when Bob Mackie designed the outfit, he had rice put inside the boobs!
@@carolleslie517 Rice? So that's why they don't rise.
Always loved Carol Burnett , she is so funny , Love her , wish she could come back !
"The last disease she got is now in the Hollywood WAAAXX Museum."

This is my favorite ones , love her , she is true talent ! 😂😂😂
Totally brilliant acting!!!!
This is true talent and intertament ….miss it …was the best and I still think is so so funny.
First time I've ever seen Harvey crack up without Tim.

Rip Mr. Waggoner
As brilliant as Burnett was, Harvey Korman was her equal in every way.
she's still alive
@@djkfhdjkgf And still funny!
I agree completely. Those two were true talents.
... and at least one gold star to the costume & set designer (s)
Most definitely. Don''t know about the sets but Bob Mackie designed all the costumes for the show
This was published on my birthday January 9th I love Carol Burnett and her entire cast
Lyle was so underrated. He had great comedic timing
No kidding.. he's hilarious can't stop laughing
John Byner was fabulous!
I remember the first time I watched this sketch with my mom almost 20 years ago. Once the music starts playing and John Byner sings, "We are gathered here today...," we lost it.
CLASSIC!!!!!!
Seen it 32 times, still LMAO
It reminds me that those sketches were made in a time where a good number of Silent Era actors were still with us.
Comedic genius 🤣🤣🤣🤣
*doorbell* "I've never heard of him, Max. Who's Binnnnnnnnngggggg Booooonnnnng?" God, I haven't thought of that joke in DECADES. Still hilarious!
Prof. George Werner I’m sure someone of Asian decent is really named Bing Bong. Lmao!
MAX! MAX! MAXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX!😂 Is that you Madame?
John Byner doing impression the famous old Toastmaster person, George Jessel.. who was head of all Roasts and tributes back in the day.. DEAD on Impression.. I remember watching this as a kid & then I saw Sunset Boulevard & finally I fully understood the parody.
I've spent my whole life dying..lol
“The Door Barrel?” Lol
John byner comedian Wikipedia
They’re all so crazy .....😂🤪🤪🤪😂😝🤪🤪
thanks for uploading this video "The Carol Burnett Show Official" :=) :=)
Now all we have to do is explain what a silent film is. But I loved these skits and also the old silent movies.
It never gets old
I've never laughed so much in my life!
The Austin Power character(Dr.Evil)-reminds of Max.
you must upload the sketch with Nora desemond doing the bug commercial
Flenif2247 really I need to see that one thanks for letting me know it's been uploaded I have never seen it
@@lynellemurray7491 ua-cam.com/video/kYhRQBIKCKE/v-deo.html
“I have spent my life dying!”
Paul Gary 😂😂😂😂😂
They just don't do stuff like this anymore ! !!!!!
Sunny Scott I agree they don't but only Carol and her team can pull it off their the best in show business love your comment sweetie
Maravilloso show 😁😄
The eulogy man sounds like Ant from the original "Ant and the Aardvark" cartoons.
John Byner did a "Dean Martin" impression for those cartoons (and sneaked in his "Jessel" impression in one of them).
“death will open up a whole new life for me.”
love you all
I want to know where they found that music to do the "eulogy scene". That is some comical music!
It was also oddly fitting to the whole 'silent film' theme too XD
So Goooooood !
One of the few times during the Carol Burnett Show run someone else other than Tim Conway cracks up Harvey Korman, hahahahaha
Others made him laugh many times. You a newcomer. Watched from Season 1. If they'd show the 'dress' shows it's Carol he breaks the most with.
Love the hang low costume top lol
That supposed to be her sagging breast
The truly funniest in this show was Harvey Kohrman (Erich VonStronheim) Norma Desmond’s chauffeur. The only one who makes me laugh,
When I rewatched it many times. “Madam, is that you?” John Byner, also a good impersonator, did a great Georgie Jessel. Carol Burnett weekly TV show at their peak late 60’s-early 70’s.
John Byner fit in well on this series.
This skit is hilarious!!!
Love it
Hollywood Blvd....love this skit

The derr beehr....so funny!!
Aaaah no part for the gorgeous William Holden character?

Ready or not here she comes
I hate to be a funeral pooper. Bahahahahahaha
0:59 3:02 4:09 Rough night for Harvey! :-)
MaskedMan66 i
Good Imitation of Georgie Jessel.
Even Nora Desmond came down with that shit covid-19 😂😜😜😜
Does someone know what Billy Wilder thought about this magnificient..and funny Tribute/Parody...
Good question. I had to check dates, but see Mary Pickford was still living (mentioned at 3:35), was wondering if she saw this,; saw any humor in it? There were still many Silent Film actresses living at this time, have wondered what they thought (I know Gloria Swanson loved it).

She looks like Liza Minnelli on this sketch, but prettier.

You've obviously never seen Liza Minnelli.
Carol Burnett is one of the great all time TV and her Movies of all time. This lady was simply hilarious at everything she did. And had a great all time cast that complemented each other's characters.I also especially loved her in Momma's family.
