For those with big hands, an easier way to change the driver side bulb on a CRV is to unclip the 3 fuse box retaining clips, the lower clips, not the ones that open the fuse box, and you can push the box back 2-3 inches. This gives you the additional finger room and it only takes 15 seconds to unclip...don't struggle in tight quarters.

Remember..never touch the glass of the bulb. If you do wipe it with a CLEAN cloth. The oil from your hand can prematurely burn out the bulb.

    Very helpful video.
The CRV headlights, in particular the high beam are weak by design, a poor choice by the factory to use a single 2-filament bulb on each side, to cut costs in headlamp production. . When one flicks on the high beam, it shuts off the low beam filament and switches on the high beam filament. That single filament is totally inadequate to produce enough light for night driving on a dark highway. Most cars have the low beams stay on when the high beam is switched on, so double the light intensity. This can only be done when a separate high beam bulb is used.

    • @chud327

Or is there a better bulb you can get that will be better than factory that will install the same way because I see a lot of people were replacing the entire headlight housings because of the plastic getting fogged on the outsideUV degradation

NOT ONE VIDEO… shows how to change the low beam headlight bulb on the DRIVERS SIDE because the fuse box is in the way ! I found when looking how to navigate around the fuse box to be able to get my hand in there to change the bulb while looking I noticed that there are 3 clips on the fuse box when depressed will release the fuse box so you can move it to the side enough to be able to get your hand in that area to change the bulb . All these videos are useless when it comes to changing the drivers side headlight bulb guess they didn’t know how to move the fuse box out of the way enough to get your hand in that area to be able to change the bulb … !! 🥴🥴

I did the passenger side first to learn how and then did the drivers. It probably look easier with a little editing. Sound like yours is a light killer. I feel like mine was a lemon. At about 30K miles, we had to change the tires, then the brakes, then the head lights, and it would run hot while idling... We traded it in quick. Good luck with yours.

chud327 I did have to replace the passenger side once, but that side was way easier. Doing the drivers' side would've been more helpful, especially since the space is so limited. I h aven't had any major problems... just annoying ones.

We traded up to a Pilot and no problems yet. I have a 05 Civic and have had it for years, with no problems. I hope I CRV was a fluke... Thanks for the reply.

as precautionary measure, please be extra careful not to touch the glass of the new bulb with your bare hands as the oil may result to damaged on the bulb when swith on. the oil on your hands may cause extra heat to the glass and may shatter or blow it out. This is always emphasize on the product casing especially halogen bulbs.

+Bhen Doreza Yeah, I think I did touch it. I didn't even think about it.

I'm changing the one on the driver's side. I can't get the clip to latch back on. What am I doing wrong?

I am not sure, I started with the other side to learn how to do it. The other side was easier, why don't you start there. Good luck and thanks for watching.

My first ever headlight bulb just went out on 2010 CRV with 105k miles on it.
I am the first and only owner, I know it never happened yet until today.

105K is pretty good, has the CRV been all good other wise? Thanks for watching.

    • @DocentUSA

It's been all good except for one bearing that I had to replace at about 80k miles and fix the AC compressor clutch at around the same time.
I think I am really lucky with this car. I had a 2nd gen CRV before this one and the headlight bulbs were burning out every year starting from year 3 as well as I had engine cooling system leak at around 50k miles and transmission fail at 75k miles.
Thanks for this tutorial, that bulb is the reason I watched it and I see that it is easier to replace a bulb on 3rd generation than 2nd.

If you think the CR-V needs a lot of work, don't ever buy a GM or Chrysler.

    • @chud327
      @chud327  6 років тому

I am a GM guy 100%, if you are talking about older GM's (especially Chevrolets) However, I do not like Chrysler at all. The Hondas are for the wife, she is 100% in favor of Hondas. We have had super luck with the Hondas, with the exceptions of that 1 CR-V. Thanks for watching and I hope this answers all of you questions.

I have a 2015 CRV LX that I bought certified in May 2017 with 39K miles on it. I have 66K miles on it and the only things I've replaced was the battery and the low beam headlight bulbs. This vehicle has been pretty much trouble free compared to the constant problems I had with my GM cars (including the $150+ cost of replacing the low beam headlight bulbs every 15 months... Every GM owner suffers this!).
I'm never buying another GM car.

At 30,000, I had to change tires, the head light bulb, the brakes were shot, and it was running hot. I traded it in. Hopefully yours will be better. Thanks for watching.

The driver side is impossible without moving the fuse box. There's about an inch of clearance if you don't. And the fact you can't see what you're doing, changing by feel was a pain in the butt.

I read to wear latex gloves so you don't contaminate the bulbs with your body oil from your fingers should you accidentally touch the bulb itself. Apparently, your body oil could cause contamination on the bulb and it could shatter when in use, yikes.
