The Sparco Sprint V fits perfectly without any door card interference. Another benefit is they are suspension type seats. I have them in my track Miata as well.
@@dongbutt if you take the Jass Performance Sparco adapter, you can use the original rails on the Sparco Sprint. You sit lower than stock seats, the Sparco are confortable and not expensive. I use this combo for about one year.
They really spent some time and thought in the seat rails. The seat belt isn't always remembered or cared about. I do however hate purchasing something that I then have to modify, while it's being sold as a remedy for something it's replacing and they should have thought about it.
Fantastic idea for a build and a series. So many channels doing exotic / stance stuff these days, great to see budget minded tips for those of us who drive hard. Well done!
Ok so I have just finished install my Recaro Pole Position using the same rail Nagisa Auto seat rail... here is my review Recaro Pole Position (10/10) - Excellent quality, materials are fantastic, removable cushions to sit lower in the car, Highly recommend! Nagisa Auto seat rail (3/10) - Does Not directly bolt in. The rail when install onto the side of the pole position is about 25-30mm from the mounting holes in the chassis. This is due to the seat rail being designed to fit smaller bucket seats (pole positions are classified as large seats for big guys). The outer rail closest to the door required cutting using an angle grinder and re-welding to offset the bracket by 30mm. The seat belt buckle also does not work well with the rail as it contacts with the seat and makes latching the seat belt impossible. I managed to make it work by installing the latch with the eject button facing against the seat and the slot against the transmission tunnel & bending the bracket slightly. There is just enough space to lock the latch when the user is trained, not a friendly setup for new/random drivers or passengers. This is not user-friendly install at all, I would not recommend for those looking for a direct plug and play setup. I now understand why there is no video shots of Dave or Pete installing the seat with rail into the car :( Hope this helps anyone looking to copy this setup.
i love that you guys put some dope seats in!!!!! can wait to see this at Cayuga!!!! ive been reading superstreet, maxpower import tuner and modified magazine in Fortinos for years before everything went online. 1998 represent!
Nice. Thats what we are planning to do to our Nb Miata as well!! Excited for this series because it will help us choose parts for our time attack Miata build!
Once you guys get the roll bar situation sorted, you should check out LRB Speed aluminum door panels. A set of those should gain you some space, trying to find room in a Miata is a game of inches.
The MOMO Monte Carlo wheel came with some early MX5 Miatas. My 1992 MX5 (UK) has one that came with it, it just has a Mazda rubber cover over the button which you can remove to make it look much cooler.
I have the same model (but a 1998) and removing the mid console (i actually replaced with a shorty console) and the handlebar on the door (replaced with a strap) created alot of room for the driver.. (i also put an adapter, snapon-wheelhub and a smaller flatbottom steeringwheel for legroom).. this made it bareable for my 189cm 120+kg brother
To avoid cutting the door cards you could look into getting some aluminium or carbon fibre flat door cards, they give you a lot more room and will help save some weight too
I have an NB and finding seats for it was a pain. Some of what I read and saw in many forums and videos turned out to be innacurate. This video might be helpful to a lot of NB owners. Can't wait to see the car on the track!
I am 200 cm tall about 6.5 feet, will I fit with a low bocket seat thats still comfortable for everyday driving without having to awkwardly cramp my legs?
The previous owner of my car adapted the horn hub and used a wood screw as the pickup 😂 Something not to do! Horn stopped working and I opened it up... So much brass dust/shavings. Fixed well now though 😊
Check out LRB speed, they have aluminium door panels for the miata that might solve the door hitting the record's problem. Plus they make some really cool parts in general.
Nice that y'all chose the Pole Positions, I've been looking into getting one of those or a SPG for my Miata. I am worried about the tight fitment though. I don't want to cut the door cars on my NA lol.
If you're of a normal height (>5'-8"), you really only have 2 options: Sparco Sprint or Tillet B6. Anything with normal (read wide) shoulder wings will hit the door when you mount it low enough to actually pass a broomstick test. If you need an XL seat, you need to buy another car. Period. Mounting the wings above the door panel will result in a seating position at least as high as stock. The door panel is pretty thin in the area it will contact, so even hacking up or completely removing the door panel will not get you much more than 1/4". It's an unbelievably tight fit. I measured literally every single FIA-rated seat and spent weeks researching Miata builds. Had I known how much effort it would take to get me into a reasonably comfortable driving position at 5'-11" I would have probably just bought another car. I've spent more time working on improving the driving position than any other aspect of the car.
this is a bit late, I'm thinking about the same seat/rail combo for my miata. Could you tell me how's the seating position compared to stock seats? Do you sit lower or higher? Thanks!
8:22 what do you loose removing the clock spring? I've changed a wheel in my ex Miata with putting a Momo Prototipo attached to a Daikei Boss Hub kit which worked perfectly, and my clock spring stayed there. Thought you needed that for alignment and other stuff
Clock spring would just be for steering wheel buttons. The wheel angle sensor (if your car has one) may not go through the clock spring (it didn't on my sti).
@@joseochoa5432 for a track car it is cheap. However building a track car is never going to be something you can do on the reap cheap unless you want to have a crap experience and not car about safety
I could be wrong, but I think I recall them mentioning it would be budget except when it comes to safety as is often the case with budget based racing.
I kinda miss my old NB. They are a fun car. Are you going to do something about the diff? By the looks of the absence of the stock Nardi steering wheel that means your NB doesn't have the stock Torsen LSD. By the way the stock Nardi wheel is one of the best feeling wheels I have driven with. Looking forward to see this little car rip on a track. All my old NB saw was the highways of california and the mountain roads of California. I may consider another NA or NB in the future but it would have to be a second or third car. Miata's make great cars if you are young and don't need space but for a singular car they are just too small and have limited functionality. Great fun though, nothing like ripping around turns and feeling like you are hauling ass when you are way below the speed limit.
How are you guys going to accommodate 6 point seat belts with those seats? Certainly you're not going to put people out on the track with 4 point harnesses or OEM belts? Why not a low cost Kirkey racing seat?
funny you put safety first in the thumbnail because you'll be putting so many people in this car, but the pole positions are notorious for only fitting short drivers
the harness would be where to spend your money not the seat. So long as it’s comfortable and the harness is properly fitted that’s the most you should worry about
FRS to Miata ? There is an absolutely HUGE amount of room in the FRS lol. Miata’s are a serious pain to find a seat that fits (#1 SLIDES ALL THE WAY BACK to the rear wall, clears the seatbelt tower & fits the narrow floor at all) You can fit a massage chair in an FRS compared...
If you like not stretching your legs out at all while driving. I’m only 5’ 10” but it still is very small and gets slightly uncomfortable after a couple hours of driving but it’s still the most fun car I’ve ever driven and I have no regrets. Test one and see if it works for you!
Awesome. I have a Miata rehab planned soon!!!
Those Pole Positions costs about the same as a used NA Miata lolol
The Sparco Sprint V fits perfectly without any door card interference. Another benefit is they are suspension type seats. I have them in my track Miata as well.

Couldn't you just slide the thing apart and switch the sides? Driver slider to passenger.
