    I've been contemplating trying my hand at some upholstery but have been kinda hesitant...after seeing this, the idea is a lot less scary and the results seem attainable. Thanks for this one man!

      For your style of car builds a really nice upholstered interior would look sick with all the audio gear, if you hadn't done it already. Dash, headliner, seats ...big project but customized! Thx for watching!

      @DaBadNewz 27 днів тому +1

      @@mostlyuselessgarage yea thats exactly the idea! I'll be redoing my roof in wood (I know, a racecar would never!) and when I do I want to redo the headliner and all the fabrics. This was basically the missing piece of the "how-to" part of the puzzle.
      (now to find my materials)

    Is it wrong that my fav part of the video was the edit you did to sync the 'snap' of the lumbar hog rings with the music - so satisfying. :) Thanks for the video.

    Excellent video - especially all the editing you obviously did! (You could nearly call this a 'how to' video!!) I've done this mod and replaced the central portion of both seats with alcantara fabric which really stops you sliding around in fast corners. Not quite as good a bucket seat but my car is mainly a street car that occasionally goes to the track.
    Really enjoying your content - your 'get to the point' style is excellent (as is the humour!).

    • @mostlyuselessgarage
      @mostlyuselessgarage  Рік тому

      Replacing the fabric did cross my mind and not just because of the mystery stain. Did you put the alcantara directly over the fabric or had brand new upholstery made?

    Awesome video! I'm collecting up all sorts of ideas to use with my son on the Miata he bought from the estate of one of my best friends, who lost his life last summer in a motorcycle accident. We are keeping his memory alive by getting this 99 NB back in tip top condition. Your ideas and videos are helping us greatly, as we do most everything here in my garage ourselves!!

      You're the 2nd follower of the channel that commented about a Miata friend passing and building the car as a tribute. Truly inspirational and certainly they would be happy to see the NB bring passion and joy to you and your son. Amazing comment that's lifted my day, I can only hope to have a friend like you guys who would do the same for my humble NA were I to pass. Thank you and glad to help!

      @@mostlyuselessgarage Hey, thank you for your kind comment. The history here is, about 3 or 4 years ago, my friend had a tranny problem in the car. I went over to help him pull it out and he took it to a certified shop to rebuild it. When he finally got it back, Covid was upon us, and it sat in his garage since then. This past Spring my son and I made a pact with him to come help him FINALLY get it back together, and then he would come help us take the tranny out of the one my son had at that time to replace the clutch, with the idea being it would be good experience before we tackled my son's. Soon after, the accident happened. Then my son sold the Miata he had, before replacing the clutch. Then we got the idea of getting my friend's Miata to fulfill that commitment. His brothers and daughter agreed, and so we got it. If the link shows up, this is the 1st start of it after 3 to 4 years of sitting idle up on jack stands in TJ's garage. ua-cam.com/video/CXPZ_0rHtBo/v-deo.html

      Though a sad story with your friend passing without seeing his NB driving again, it's awesome to see that it isn't the end of the story. It looks like a lovely example of a clean NB1 and a good base for you and your son to wrench! Carpe diem, seize the day!

    Nice video, thank you so much. I'm 6'3” and today I got on a NB. It was horrible haha. With straight back I can't see with the frame and I touch A LOT the soft top, but if I move ahead the ass my legs blocks the steering wheel.
    I think I'm going to TRUST in foamectomy + steering wheel spacer and buy that NB 😊

    Great video as always! Did you notice any sagging of the fabric after the foamectomy?
    Sorry for your fender, it will make a good video.
    I once backed out of my garage with the passenger door open, after 2-3 hours of super frustrating brake work (I had a busted brake cylinder, and I hadn't realised it). I virtually ripped the door from the frame. So yeah, sh*t happens.

    • @mostlyuselessgarage
      @mostlyuselessgarage  Рік тому +1

      You win, you're a dude that gets it! I had the exact same concern and to be honest, yes it does make the upholstery look looser at rest. But it's not saggy and sad looking, you can just tell it's not as stuffed. So ya if that's a big concern then I wouldn't remove as much, or not at all, the top foam and just work on the foam in the hump. Thanks for the great comment, and story about ur oops! That must have been a lot of swearing with the door hanging off 🤣

    • @miatacollector
      @miatacollector Рік тому

      @@mostlyuselessgarage yeah a lot of swearing ensued, I also stopped working on the car for a few weeks after that as it was a hobby and it got a bit toxic (especially considering it was a 20 years old used car).
      The seats are looking great through the camera at least. Enjoy them, you can always re-upholster/buy other seats. A lot of people here in Europe change the factory ones for seats from Vauxhall GT/Lotus Elise.

    • @mostlyuselessgarage

    stupid idea. miata seats are very comfortable (did 5000km in 8 days, no backpain), but seats lack side support. if any one know how to make side foams larger and harder, let me know, send a link

      @tigim101 Рік тому

      @@mostlyuselessgarage I'm 5'7 (5'8 when the stars align) So after a few months on this would you say it's worth it? Visibility is okay and the seat feels more supportive?

    • @mostlyuselessgarage
      @mostlyuselessgarage  Рік тому

      Yes definitely worth it. Now 1 thing I do notice, as you sit down in the seat you will feel the foam sink into the bum scoop which I find comfortable. If the thought of that bothers you simply take foam off the top and as much out of the lumbar as you dare.
