This is so helpful, I'm planning to build a PC for the first time when the 5090 comes out (Budget's saved up already) and trying to pick a good case is driving me nuts.
It's important for people to understand that you don't need to put parts inside of a case if you don't want to. An open test bench or open case can do wonders for airflow and ease of access.
Built my first pc last year in November 2023. I think it was you who got my eyes on the NV5 and it's seriously such a gorgeous enclosure! Price to performance + looks are superb in this case
Glad to hear the Hyte is still getting love. That's what I'm running; inside is a Ryzen 5 5600X with 32GB of GSkill DDR4-3200 dual channel RAM, an ASRock B550 mobo, and an XTX QICK Series Radeon 7700XT GPU. Great airflow, gorgeous looks, and absolutely terrific cable routing options. Plays remarkably well with radiators, too. Mine's a red Y60 and it's like a damn Ferrari.
Marcus, Editor Karl, you are wonderful. I don't know what it is, but you all have it. I love your humor. If you aren't wealthy beyond your wildest dreams, the world makes no sense.
I keep changing my mind. I like all the bells and whistles, but I also love minimalist. Right now I'm out of the showy NZXT H6, and back in the cozy, subtle Corsair 2000D.
It's really surprising how cases have become more affordable over the past couple of years. I think that Montech and its price to performance philosophy had a lot to do with the change..
For ITX I used the Thernaltake Tower 100 and really liked its overall aesthetic. I decided to go for the bigger cousin to that case, the Tower 500, for my full ATX build and it's been equally nice looking on my desk :)
I'm using the Lian Li o11D Evo for my main rig, with a ROG B650, 7800X3D and rx7900XTX Red Devil. My secondary rig use a Lian Li Lancool 215 with a ROG B550, 5800X3D and a rx7900XT Hellhound. Last is my sim racing rig that have a Montech Air 903 Max with a TUF B650, R5 7600 and a rx6950XT Red Devil. The o11 is my all time favorite. But the Montech Air 903 is the value king. Not the best fans, and the glass panel is a little thin. But other than that it is superb.
Glad I got the phanteks NV5 for my new PC build this year, no fans included also means you don't have to dispose of the stock fans if you wanted to use better one so from an ecological point it's good.
I built my 14700K/4090 PC in the NV5 a year ago (probably upgrading to 9800X3D/5090 soon). Running it with D30 fans (1 standard as exhaust and 4 reversed as intake) and the Glacier One 360D30 AiO, so everything looks coherent. I love the case. It’s compact yet spacious enough, with ample room for cable management, it cools pretty well, it looks great, it’s well made and in this config, pretty quiet. My only gripe is that unlike e.g. be quiet! cases it doesn’t allow me to switch between mobo and case controller lighting using a button. In order to change the mode I have to open the case and connect or disconnect a cable every time. Other than fhat, I find it perfect.
Bro.. thx for this and all others! Your help has been huge, I can't express this enough... I'm on my parts pick through multiple vendors, and several times a day I find myself going back and searching my choices. And of course my case selection has been a concern, with this only being my 2nd ever build. So second guessing myself on components have become the norm. I'm days away from pulling the trigger. With that being said... The Lian Li - O11D EVO RGB is what I finally came up with after walking through Micro Center. Low and behold... One of my trusted sources (you) has it in the top of the list! It has been a hell of a time trying to find the GPU I want though. I am US based, so I feel like the time is now to build before any pricing issues with upcoming tarrifs, so I'm starting to freak out a little. Here's what I'm working with atm... AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Lian Li HydroShift LCD 360TL RGB 79.9 MSI X670E Tomhawk WiFi G.Skill - Trident Z5 Neo RGB 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR5-6000 PC5-48000 CL30 ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER OC Edition (Very Difficult to find) Samsung - 990 PRO 2TB Samsung V NAND 3-bit MLC PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe M.2 Lian Li - O11D EVO RGB I'm still working on my case cooling but leaning towards cleaning it all up with more Lian Li 120s. Let me know if something looks off folks! Happy Holiday all!
There ARE a zillion choices for PC cases these days. But in my case there are only a few to choose from. I like to have an optical drive in my builds, and I also find a hot swap bay to be convenient. But hardly any of the case manufacturers allow for external drive bays these days. I know I can attach these things externally via USB, but it's much tidier to install them in the case.
@PcCentric actually did a showcase of the latency with the 5090 at CES, and with MFG the end-to-end input latency was about 45 ms, and without MFG it was 35 ms. As long as you’re below 50-55 ms in competitive titles you’re good, so Nvidia seems to have tackled it pretty well
Build my first PC looking into your videos as guidance and the case was corsair 4000D . It looks good but over bugget with all the fancy fans QX120 . Seeing your videos did help .
It really depends on what components you are replacing. So the process can vary a ton. Most replacing of parts is pretty easy until you have to replace the motherboard, which everything else plugs into.
Totally agree with AP201 as my favorite matx case. Highlights as providing choice of psu fan facing inside or outside and long gpu clearance with enough fan space underneath plus mesh side panel for gpu optimal cooling. As for itx, Deepcool CH160 would be my pick. Love its simplistic elegant look. Ideal for air cooling with huge air cooler size compatibility. Added newly aquired Intel B580 gpu and it becomes my ultimate budget itx build.
I really like the thermaltake 300. Cooling is exceptional with 420 radiator support, and side mounted gpu means gpu gets fresh outside air directly. The only slightly irritating thing is that you have to remove top cover to access mother board io.
You should have reviewed the Asus ROG Hyperion GR701 its THE case. Build quality and looks on a whole other level. Internet pictures don't do it justice.
What gorgeous monitor is that in most of the shots? LG?... I'd also highly recommend the FormD T1 over the Terra. Might be slightly more expensive, but the build quality and compability is far better, meanwhile being even smaller than the Terra as well.
I was hoping to see a Fractal Design Torrent RGB case here. I have just ordered one for a new AMD Ryzen 7 9800x3d build using an air cooler for the cpu. I know this case is old but it should still be considered one of the best cases for airflow from what I have seen.
The cooler master case I did build in and had for a few years. It is a good case for how low the price was. Put all the savings I could into cpu and gpu 😂. If you get the larger size for it as there is two versions, it can fit an ATX Motherboard. I had the MSI ATX x570 gaming MB in there with a 5700x3d and a 3 fan slotted 6700xt that did barely fit. So the graphics card length is important! The biggest downside was honestly the cooling. Switched to a H6 Flow and my temps dropped noticeably. So if you can get enough air flow may work for you if you’re wanting to hold out on purchasing a more expensive case. 💪
Montech Air 100 checking in, going strong. I'm pretty sure this case is discontinued at this point, but its full-size ATX replacement (the Air 903) is just a better version of this case. The Air 100 was such a steal for the $60--4 included ARGB DC 120mm fans, hinged glass side panel, ARGB hub w/ 6 slots, good cable management, the works. I swear by this case and probably sound like a shill, but I love it!
glad someone else likes that case. was often one of the cheapest cases in the UK and can be $50 in the US too. there was also the air 1000 lite which was a bigger size one and direct competitor to the 4000d, it was almost identical and way cheaper
I'm between the 207 or 217 or Fractal pop not sure what to get. The 207 probably is the best option as it's cheaper but I'm worried about the fact it's apparently hard to build in
I think the NZXT H9 is the best because that’s what I have. 😋 Seems very similar to the majority of cases mentioned here but mysteriously not included.
I built my first pc in a fractal north non-xl last weekend. Im a life long tinkerer first time builder so the smaller size ddnt hurt me any. Im thinking about getting an matx case as a used parts receptacle as I plan an upgrade path.
I need help... I play on an Xbox X that has HDMI 2.1 so I can play at 4k at 120hz.. I want to invest in a PC but keep the OLED TV C3 42”...which motherboard do you recommend to continue enjoying 4k at 120hz via hdmi 2.1?
Just picked up the NV9, and waiting on the 50-series GPU and next X3D chips. I'm going with the 120/140mm INF Fans from Lian Li, so hoping that pushes enough air for a case this size.
what do people think of the MSI MPG VELOX 100P AIRFLOW Mid-Tower PC Case, im pretty happy with it, my new build holds around the 35-40 temp and thats after 12 hours of being used. loads of room and decent fans included, even has space for upto 9 fans to be fitted. All this for less than £70, best deal i found.
Have a Corsair 4400 Air Flow version and don’t like it. Sata cage and power supply along the bottom offers very limited room. You can ditch the cage and be fine, but annoying to take out. Area on the back side is tight’ish for cable management . Haven’t been a fan of its overall flow/thermals. My 3080ti and 9700k haven’t overheated but it’s under whelming and NexusGamers’ test back it up. Plus it’s on the larger side for seemingly no reason. Moving on to the Antec Flux Pro.
im gonna build a pc for the first time soon and am researching cases! my only problem has been that i want a case where the glass faces out to the right rather than to the left if that makes sense.. i basically want the long back bit where the motherboard goes to be on the left against my wall but all the cases ive seen so far have it on the right and all the display is facing the left! help plz pc man :,)
Considering an O11 Evo from Lian li with the new 5090 x 9800x3D for aesthetics but worried about airflow, have a 5000D from Corsair and love it and will basically re use it if the evo doesn’t get good airflow. Anyone have any insight on the 011 EVO ?
Hi! Does this mobo MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard fits in a MAtx? I currently have an ATX case and I'm struggling with space, I can't keep it on my desk because of my multiple monitors setups and even under the desk it doesnt fit any under desk support. Also since this is the case Aerocool Aero-800 ATX Mid Tower Case I've been wanting to upgrade since some time! I was thinking about the Okinos Aqua 3 but it's impossible to find somehow in italy, but also the Lian Li you showed is cool!
Funny about your choice of Best of the Best. I finished my NV5 MK2 build two weeks ago, and it is incredible. Phanteks PSU, AIO, D30 fans, Luxury Vertical Mount, full case lighting system, CableMod Carbon cables, and all black as a politician's heart. Great video!
You will be fine also with 280 Aio or an good air cooler like Noctua D15 or something. So dont limit your case selection purely by 360mm rad :) Look at liquid freezer III for a good performance/cost option for AIO. I have ran 5950X and 7950X on 360mm and 280mm AIO. The 280mm AIO uses 140mm fans. Liquid freezer AIOS have quite a lot of thicker rads than a lot of other AIOs. I did on my 360 one fit Noctua fans, but the OEM fans were also quiet I would say.

maybe add an extra 1000 bucks to your budget (its nvidia you never know), nah im jk, gl with your build and i hope you enjoy it
I suggest add another $1000 just to be on the safe side...
Why choose the 5090?
@@fantagrapee Cause I can, cause it's my first build, cause I'm going to that from a 980. What does it matter?
@@spyder5876 Just asking man, I am trying to build a new PC and I don't know what gpu to pick.

Flawless.

I have ran 5950X and 7950X on 360mm and 280mm AIO.
The 280mm AIO uses 140mm fans.
Liquid freezer AIOS have quite a lot of thicker rads than a lot of other AIOs.
I did on my 360 one fit Noctua fans, but the OEM fans were also quiet I would say.
you should try the inwin mod free deluxe case
