    Growing up my mom would make me a funfetti angel food cake covered in 7-minute frosting she had died pink. No sprinkles on the outside so it was a surprise when you cut into the cake. It was so pretty and delicious and sweet. Just how I like my cake. I might have to make one for nostalgia sake.
    Happy baking. 💗

    Looks so good! 😍 here in Sweden the most basic birthday cake flavour is raspberry jam and vanilla custard from a box with storebought cake bases. And the cake is always frosted with wipped cream. I was so over this so I started making my own cakes when I was 13 😅

    • @she927
      @she927 Місяць тому +1

      @@anasherman I’d say the buttercream was sweet, but not gritty sweet. It wasn’t overly stiff at room temperature. If cakes like this are refrigerated more than a day I find it takes a couple of hours to really get to a nice soft cake texture and get a creamy feel to the frosting though. Using heavy cream and not milk in American buttercream gives me consistent good results

    Oh, growing up in Chile, we were in a dictatorship. There was like very few options. We had our own Oreo version though, "Galletas Tritón". My mum opened them, dunk them in milk and Pisco (never to young for hidden booze) and made a cake by layering them with whipped cream (since it was south Chile, deep in the country's south, we never lacked milk products). To this day I still make it just for the nostalgia.

    1970's birthday cake was naked without the hard sugar decorations you get at the grocery store. We got to pick the decorations.
    My dad always had pineapple upside down cake. My oldest brother had pumpkin pie (October birthday), youngest had Lemon Merengue pie. Once I asked for gingerbread cookies for my birthday (in August). I got a cake with ginger bread sugar decorations on it. No idea where my mom found them.
    p.s. Love the highlights! So fun for Spring! 💕

    For a german cake I bake, called Ameisenkuchen, or "ant cake", you use the long chocolate (color) sprinkles. They are the only ones that melt just right. I am half half, so back in Chile I tried to make it and used the small dots and they just made the batter brown. So I can relate to the principle.

    Hi, Liz, Recently found this and made delicious cupcakes using your recipe! :-) My husband's birthday is in 2 days, and he wants the funfetti cake, so I'll give it a try. I do have a question, though. When I went to buy more butter extract, they only had "butter emulsion", which I bought. The descriptions say that this is a more intense butter flavor than extract is. Will it still have that "nostalgic" taste, or should I only use the extract? Thanks!

    I’ve never heard of funfetti cake. But I’m not fan of super sweet desserts. I find most North American desserts are on sugar overload, so I reduce the sugar in almost everything I bake, which doesn’t seem to negatively impact the quality of the dessert.

    When you say half the amount of oil for cupcakes do you just mean half of the canola oil or should I also halve the shortening

    Oh my this looks great! I have a coco melon cake I'm doing & I think this will be awesome. ?? Is this cake structure able to handle fondant? My cake when I was a child was always 1/2 white 1/2 chocolate sheet cake grocery store. My mom worked and had 3 stair steppers(4,5,6 years old for example). We didn't have much but she always made sure we had a cake for our Birthdays! By the way: You are looking younger & younger--just beautiful Darlin'!

    How tall does the cake end up being? I plan to make this cake soon for my baby’s first birthday and I want to buy a box to carry it in. I just need to know what size box to purchase
