I really like seeing this and would like to see more vehicles added to the test. Not everyone needs a truck with 10k towing capacity but most families will use vehicles to tow small boats and small trailers

I'd say well done GM, a mid size to compact crossover that can tug around 3500 lbs without an issue. Impressive. They were smart not to try and rate 5k lbs. The vehicle seems very unstressed in all aspects at 2700lbs and I doubt another 700lbs back there would matter too much it's only another 80lbs tongue weight. Which I doubt would make it sag much more. With weight distributing hitches and brake controllers a small family will have no issues going cross country with a small trailer etc. There are some nice travel trailers in the sub 4000lb gvwr class. Perfect for a 3 or 4 person family that's outdoorsy.

Watching this in 2022. I bought a new 2020 Terrain SLT with that power train. I traded in a 2016 Terrain SLT with the 301 h.p. 3.6 litre V6 and was a little apprehensive about the 2.0 litre turbo powertrain but was pleasantly surprised. I live in Canada and I can get 7.6 litres/100 kms which is about 37 m.p.g. Imperial. That’s running at about 110 km/h which is 68 m.p.h. I like my car very much. I like your reviews very much. Keep up the great work.👍👍🇨🇦

What a great video series idea since the midsize/compact CUVS segment is a rather large one and there are people that would like to be able to tow lighter loads like a small/medium trailer, a small/medium aluminum or fiberglass fishing boat, etc... so it would be good to know how each of these tow like the GMC Terrain Chevy Equinox, the new Jeep Cherokee, Subaru Forester/Outback, etc... and others whom have a rating between 2-5k lbs. I want a Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon so bad and to eventually get a 16-18 ft aluminum boat to tow behind and fish from, but the Chevy Equinox with the 2.0L Turbo I4 is such a great vehicle in it's own right and can tow decently well, and get pretty good fuel economy. I know different vehicles all together, but still capable of doing the task (The Colorado Z71/ZR2 is obviously better at the towing part, the CUV usually better fuel eco, comfort for the driver and passengers, and possibly driving dynamics). Good job once again I look forward to more vids like this and others. I do like the IKE series, it's a great measuring stick.

I have one of the new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox AWD with the 1.6l Diesel and the OEM 2" receiver hitch/wiring package, 4 pin connector only. It does a awesome job of towing even thought it is rated at 1500lb. I took a 5x10 u-haul trailer from Michigan to Pennsylvania ~500 miles at got 25mpg... Return trip without the trailer was 39mpg. I have also done several shorter trips with a 6x12 trailer and get about 20mpg. I would expect it to do great on your test but it might be hard to find one.

Hello there. Just wanted to ask how your Chevrolet Equinox has held up for you? I am looking at purchasing an 18’ GMC Terrain with the 1.6 CDI. Been researching the GM-Astra which has a biturbo if the same block with 150bhp. Not sure if the torque. Mileage still going strong? Cheers.

    • @CJIEngineering
      @CJIEngineering 4 роки тому

@@glitterkittensreid5079 So far so good. I have just over 35,500 miles on the Equinox and have not had any issues with the Motor, doesn't burn any oil and the distance between regens is 600-800+ miles telling me that everything is sealed up nicely. Once in a while when you start up the engine you will hear some timing chain slap but I'm not concerned about that. I expect to keep this vehicle for at least 4 more years but the number of miles I have been driving has dropped dramatically so it could last me a lot longer. I'm upset they stopped making them so I have to make sure I keep it as long as I can :). I hope this helps

It ran right up the hill in 8 minutes at max GTW. The engine was getting a nice, brisk workout at 3500 rpm and could have done it faster, or towed a lot more. GM has been making that 2.0L turbo LTG for years, so it should be pretty bulletproof.

Allow me to save them the trouble. Tried them ALL for many years and stuck with the Transit. Amazingly, it is superior in almost every measurable way to the competition. Ford has owned the van market in Europe and North America for as long as I can remember. Heck, they call vans Transits in Europe for cryin' out loud. Ford has done their homework and it shows in the final product. Don't take my word for it though. Go rent a Transit, or take one for a test drive and see for yourself.
      P.S. Try doing a U-turn when you do :)

I have used a Sprinter and a Nissan 2500 at my previous job. They both have so much more room than the Express.

Like your videos but the format needs to be more consistent. With some of the runs you guys show the dash view the entire time and other's you don't there are random clips of pictures of the car and it goes back to the interior I personally can look at pics myself I wants to see the driving dynamics watch the RPM gage to see how many times the transmission has shifted. If you guys work on consistency across all your videos that would really help. Otherwise good video since you guys are doing small I would like to see the Jeep Cherokee, Ford Escape, and the Honda CR-V take this test on since they all come with turbo 2.0 I-4 would be interesting to see.

So even with a 2.0L tubro-charged 4 cylinder engine with a 9-speed transmission it still is only rated at 21 mpg city and 26 mpg hwy. That's very similar to what many AWD 3.5L V6 engines get. If it could get another 3-4 mpg I think it'd be a much easier sell. I really don't see any benefit that's gained.

So the only way to tow the full 3500 pounds without exceeding max combined gross weight is with no passengers and no driver?

@ tfl truck I enjoyed this video my question is if this little 4 litter crossover can tow a trailer and a car than what can a Silverado v6 and v8 tow ? What is the difference ? Also what differs from a z71 and an lt Silverado when it comes to towing ? I'm in the market for a new truck and if an SUV tows like a truck should I get a cross over ?

Please use the 2019 or 2018 Jeep Cherokee with tow and v6. Tows 4500.

you're telling me the suv can supposedly tow another 1000 pounds , check out the rear suspension sag at 2:48 , needs auto level or something.

@tfltruck i love your videos and channel. You guys should do ike gauntlet test with older 1st gen vehicles like the 97-02 expedition. Or f150.. or the older explorers, trail blazers ect.. I would love to see how they put up

I agree. I'd love to see the Pilot towing, as well as other mid/large crossovers like the Traverse, Explorer, etc.

Honda Pilot towing would not be a problem, but if it didn't have trailer braking on a hot day and you needed to stop or slow you'd only get one chance as HMC really is under braked in cars and suvs.
