This doesn't surprise me. I has a 2.0 AWD Equinox for a loaner for a couple of days and I was able to get 35 mpg on my 75 mile mostly highway commute.
Good lord way more than I would have expected from a GM (expected 25 or so).
Glad to see y'all read the comments & going along with them!!
These Father and Son reviews are awesome! Great information and a little compitition makes for a great film! Good job guys! Keep it up!!
Except that they aren't father and son.
Good to see father and son bonding over mpg loops
1-800-beatdown Snicker! :-)
Except that they aren't father and son.
Really appreciate the review. And the Okoboji hat!
Great reviews! I agree, the turning radius is ridiculous on the 2019 Terrain. You have to compensate making U turns so you don't hit the curbs. Also the backup butt buzzer is super annoying. Otherwise, love the ride.
Great vid guys. Keep it up
I have the 2.0 L engine in my Malibu Premier. It's states "premium gas recommended" inside the gas compartment on my Malibu.
Is it recommended to run premium gas in these SUV's?
I'm not surprised, in my little experience with GM vehicles they just are better on fuel than the other two,......FCA and Ford.
Not that one in the truck

The terrain definately wins in the looks department
I dont mean to be offtopic but does someone know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account??
I was stupid lost my login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me.
@Zayn Wesson instablaster =)
Great review like your duo
Slip test for the AWD Terrain? I really enjoy those, but we need more examples to do some real comparisons.
Agreed. I'd love to see the Terrain slip tested.
Did they mention what speed they were driving at? Didn’t catch in video
The GMC looks FAR! better
It's the foam/bubbles when putting gas when you put gas in the car on full speed or highest notch.. for about a year now I have been putting gas in at a low speed or notch and have been getting more gas and filling up less
Nice work Gentlemen!
Nice review! My wife just got a 19 equinox 2.0 turbo awd. I need to find some reviews on high mileage.
I haven't seen the rest of the video. For other people watching the video. Never use the topping method. When its full, it's full. Topping overflows the system. The extra fuel goes into the evaporative system. The evap system is meant to recover fuel vapors, don't top off. Unless you want to replace your charcoal canister.
Great vehicles love the watch Nathan
You mentioned Rugged Radios and your code that would be in the description....only it's not there. lol
Thank you , I was thinking about buying a Terrain
They share a lot of different things? WTF?
Are you in US or Canada...Us gallons or Imperial? Thanks
A front wheel drive Chevy Equinox, wasn't call a Mini Van in the 90s. ;O)
Love these peeps!!!
I don’t know how you can fairly compare a front wheel drive auto and and all wheel drive auto? Why didn’t they test two AWD or two FWD?
They should be able to switch the terrain to FWD. I believe that's a feature. Idk why they wouldn't do that. It's a feature to help you save fuel!
They are identical vehicles. This is a comparison between fwd and rwd.
Because the point was to compare equivalent models which these are basically the same car but the Chevy model isn't offered in AWD so they had to compare them as they came, but even so, it actually made the test more interesting to see what the real life difference would be between the same model but one FWD and the other AWD. I'm glad they did it that way versus comparing two exact vehicles (just with a different logo on them) which would have been pointless.
I am not surprised at all, both are good vehicles and I am glad that they redesigned them. I was a fan of the 3.6 V6 in the previous gen one as it was pretty peppy in its own right, but that 2.4L I4 was a DOG spelled with all capital letters. I was hesitant at first, but after driving the Equinox, Malibu and even the Camaro that 2.0L Turbo 4 has some juice for a 4 and is much more fuel efficient than the V6, plus it still tows 3500lbs and you can get a tow package. I am also glad that the 2.0L T4 is offered in the LT trim level so you can get that performance in a more cost efficient trim level. Yes almost all vehicles are expensive, but still. Nice little comparison of FWD vs AWD mpg even if the selectable AWD wasn't engaged that extra 300lbs was there. I agree with Nathan on the GMC that gear selector is weird, I think that GMC wanted their new Terrain to be more than an Equinox with a different exterior design. Good job guys.
Why not compare the fwd terrain? That would be more fair
Acura has the same heads-up flash bar for the collision alert.
Should have both used the same pump filler as calibration pump to pump can vary +/- 10% either direction.
Oh please come on really
Matter of fact buddy, a good friend of mine works in a very senior position in BP and my younger brother worked in a filling station. They have to do ullage test at various pumping speeds. Legal requirements may vary from country to country but not a single pump delivers 100% the same.
The vehicle can sit at a different angle at a different pump which would affect the results too.
Thats another great point and even more reason to use the same pump for all vehicles and all fills start and finish.
The size of the fuel doors. I maybe see a diesel with a DEF tank in the works?
Yes there is a 1.6 liter diesel option available for both of these.
I’d be interested to know how much the 50 miles cost. Also, how large is the tank?
Jeff Forbess - they showed the cost for both vehicles. You just had to read the gas pump.
Nathan's in denile again!😉😎
I like the Seiko 009 on NATO.
I just bought a 2020 Terrain with the 2.0 litre engine and (AWD). Your not going to get used to the transmission controls in the short time you guys had the cars. It took me a while too but it’s fine now. I traded a 2016 Terrain with the V6 engine which was pretty quick (AWD) and I could get just about 31 m.p.g. imperial in that car on the highway. The new car is pretty impressive performance wise but the jury is still out on mileage. The electronic or electric controls do take some getting used to for sure.
Just bought the 2.0L FWD GMC Terrain SLT. any pros and cons you have yet?
I actually really like the new gear shifters I just bought an slt terrain a few days ago. Love it so far
I'am Your Newest Subscriber Great Videos I Wanta Get A Chevrolet Equinox
How much liter per kilometer does it make?
Using my superior 5th grade math skills I can tell you that 32 mpg is about 7.3 L/100KM and 30 mpg is 7.8 l/100KM.
Any money saved on MPG was wasted on filling the tank with the Premium Fuel.
Except you don't have to use Premium, only recommended.
Wait, they’re NOT father and son?
Nope. But they have made jokes about it.lol as well as tommy/Roman makes people think Michael got the job via family connection at his age....
Awesome 😀 😀 and I subscribe to your UA-cam channel .
Great test I was wondering about the two of those but I do have to say those rugged radio sound very cheap
Nice skx!
If Michael starts using Dollar Shave Club products and showing up for videos in a Rush or Motorhead t-shirt, I'm going to have some very serious doubts.
9:05 nice watch!
nice!
TERRAIN!!!!!!!
Is GMC chevy’s luxury division?
yep, in particular when you get the Denali trim.
No. Cadillac is GM’s Luxury division. GMC is a more premium truck brand, but not a luxury brand.
I love a good father/son review.
It's kinda sad nowadays when you ask people what kind of mileage they get in their cars everyone just spouts the numbers that the car's computer gives them.
saturnday in most cars they're close so its around the mileage you're getting
can we see the tires?? its all about rolling resistance and if the AWD car has even slightly more grippy tires it makes all the difference in MPG...just putting 289 pound Aunt Edna in the passenger seat wont mean 3 MPG especially since these AWD systems are generally very front wheel drive biased
it's not just the added weight, it's also the parasitic loss from the drive shaft that's always spinning even when the car is in fwd mode only. i've actually gone in and physically removed a driveshaft from a car that had a fried rear diff which allowed the car to operate as a fwd only car and sure enough, the MPG's picked up once the motor no longer had to spin that drive shaft regardless of whether it was in fwd or awd. Also the acceleration was better for the same reason less drag on the engine from not having to constantly spin that drive shaft even when in fwd mode only. That's just the way these "on-demand" awd systems work, regardless of the front to rear bias.
Shameful that GM dropped this wonderful 2.0t
Premium fuel recommended, that sucks
It so better when it v6 motor and then regular gas
I live in Colorado! Can I work for you guys? Or do you want to review my vehicle? I have a 2016 1.6L 4WD Ford Escape.
Premium fuel, that would turn me off. Where I live it's CRAZY more expensive than regular.
Then why is it recommended????
Manual recommends premium but says you can use 87 octane with performance and fuel economy reduction.
Let you know in a few weeks.
Running on 87 now. Taking it to below 1/8th full and fueling with 93.
2019 2.0 turbo fwd. Just picked up yesterday.
Ran a 2003 Cadillac on 87 for over three years with no problem.
You should see what they do on all highway at highway speeds. I bet it’s a lot lower.
Actually it's not. Owners are reporting similar and even higher MPG's on all highway at highway speed trips. The roll off tends to happen when exceeding 75 mph, but that's pretty much the same for nearly all gasoline powered cars.
They get great MPG I just dont see why someone would buy one unless they intend to keep it for forever. These little GM crossovers will tank in resale. I'd lease for sure if I was thinking about these two. Great video anyways!
I lease mine and I wouldn't have it any other way.
It wouldn’t tank as bad as the jeeps though
After owning a 1.6 diesel cruze.. these numbers are really laughable
Former Cruze eco owner. My 2013 Cruze regularly got 52 mpg. If only my 2018 Terrain did the same! (41mpg 1.5 liter)
The 2019 Jeep Cherokee with 2.0 t gets 32 Highway
31mpg not 32mpg.
Too expensive for a little suv
91 octane might have made up the difference.
You don't have to use 91, you can use regular but it would result in decreased power and slightly worse MPG due to 10% ethanol content. To be honest if these cars required premium I'd just use E85, similar octane and even with the worse MPG your end up saving money over using overpriced 91.
@@AdamSmith-gs2dv What about 87?
Back when gas was cheap
Really? Premium recommendation in that Chevy 🤑
Turbo
Morano has more:hp @250 and better mpg and:has:competitive acc#relation@ 7.3 s#bonds:to:60 mph yot a lagging turbo
Ummmm. Do the diesels
yes please!
Yes!!
@@justinrozon7 I have a diesel and if I take it easy, I can get 65 MPG on a level highway with my 1.6 Terrain AWD
Est numbers are without AC, LoL
i don't think you can tow anything with these cars
3500lbs with those powertrains. About the standard for cars and small crossovers these days.
My taco truck is rated at 3500 also but i never have and id say any truck is better than a GM 4 cylinder...im sure the power is fine but id be worried it would overheat with that turbo and the typical GM micro radiator
3500 is about as good as it gets for a compact CUV. Other than the 3.2 V6 Jeep Cherokee rated for 4500 lbs with the right option. Not many sedans are rated to tow more than 1500 lbs.
Great MPG all gone to waste thanks to having to use overpriced premium gas
It will run fine on regular
@@normt5463 Well thats good, still wouldnt buy this car cause it has a turbo with questionable reliability later on (especially since these cars come with start stop BS you can't turn off)
Purchased a chevy Equinox in February 2019. It has 1,144 miles on it. Died in the middle of traffic over Memorial Day weekend. Engine/Transmission malfunction. Dealership duct taped the broken part which is on indefinite backorder. They refused me a loaner and sent me on my way. Still not functional nor safe. At second shop. It’s a known problem with no fix in sight. Still no resolution...GMC is the culprit and not authorizing assistance ..... 1,144 miles. Brand. New. Car.
I Smell a Troll
@@bryhul6534 i mean it is a GM product
Misty take it in a 3rd time for the same issue and if they still can't fix it then contact your state attorney general office and start the paper work to have the Lemon Law applied. That's the only language GM understands.
@@bryhul6534 Do some research on these GM models. Everything she's saying fits perfectly with the issues that thousands of other people are having with these same GM models regardless of the which badge name it's under and she's right, for many of the issues, there simply is no fix available according to GM itself.
"real world" testing should be done with family in the vehicle at all addllkoï
Except that consumer research has shown that even though these can fit a family, the majority of people that own these vehicles drive alone most of the time or just one other passenger.
People just like roomy cars and the ability to pick up supplies from Home Depot every once in a while. People who are going to be driving with an entire family on a daily basis tend to go for the next size up from this size or more towards a minivan. So the test is actually realistic since most of the people that drive them are usually alone or just one other passenger.
Yikes! 40k for that little SUV? That's more than I paid for my truck. No thanks....
@@normt5463 I understand that. $40,000 MSRP for a small SUV is unreal. Obviously, I am not their target customer.
STOP OVER FILLING THE FUEL TANK, that's why the mpg computer is wrong.
1. I can't believe that Chevy is LIGHTER than the Corvette ZR1 and the Camaro
2. I'm very impressed with the MPG of these 2
3. Take the GMC up gold mine hill
Driving vehicles with Bluetooth, but holds phone risking lives.....unfollow
GMC vs Chevy? Really
Ford vs Lincoln
Ford vs Mercury
Who the hell has the money for one of these? GM is getting pricey for what you get.
It's not just GM. It's every manufacturer
EGGINFOOLS You are correct! Vehicles makers are charging ridiculous money for cars and trucks.
@@rockford2523 It's crazy these days. It's been going up and up for about 7 years or so. Can't afford anything. Lol
I got an AWD Equinox in LT trim for 33k CAD
All cars are getting crazy expensive but that's for many reasons such as how complex engine/transmission and emission systems have to be nowadays just to meet the ever more strict EPA requirements. About half the equipment under the hood nowadays are there just to help the vehicle meet emissions and mpg requirements. Same goes for the chassis of new cars, they are all going to more expensive alloys and composites to make the vehicles lighter so that they can meet the ever higher MPG requirements. Then there's also the ever increasing crash and safety standards which are requiring more and more safety equipment and technology. The manufacturers are building the cars to meet these constantly increasing standards and that's reflected in the constantly increasing prices. Lastly, there is a non-stop and rather vicious "car-review" industry that will absolutely roast and destroy any car that they are reviewing (even economy cars) that doesn't come with soft touch everything, power everything, 15 airbags, 12" entertainment system, that must go from 0 to 60 mph in under 7 seconds and must get over 30 mpg. Anything short of that, then reviewers will say the car is "horribly cheap, 20 years out of date, etc, etc... and put that model on a "do not buy" list which does affect sales and if a particular model doesn't sell it gets discontinued. It's easy to blame the manufacturer, but the reality is their profit margins aren't any greater than they were 20 or 30 years ago, rather it;s all of the things that i mentioned above that are shifting car prices ever higher. Proof of this is that you can go to some 3rd world countries and still find some old car models that were designed 20 or 30 years ago that are still being made and sold new in those countries and the prices are 1/2 to 1/3rd of new cars that are being sold elsewhere in the world and the reason why is because those older designs were so much cheaper to make. Hard plastics, basic interior designs, at most 2 air bags, no navigation or LCD screens, just a basic am/fm radio with plastic rotary turn knobs, no pricey exotic alloys in the chassis, no HiD or Projector lamp headlamps or led lights just plain old halogens, no lane departure warning systems, no collision avoidance systems, no keyless entry, no remote start, no bluetooth anything, less complicated emission systems, smaller displacement engines, etc, etc. Yeah... that's what has happened to prices.
The engine is basically and very old engine from Saab 9-3 9-5
No, no it is not.
Good old GM. Putting Generic back into Generic Motor Crap
