Why 50 pull-ups? In my early 20's I was really into rock climbing. At the time I was trying to improve my upper body strength for overhanging routes. I set a goal to be able to do 50 pull-ups in 1 set. I worked hard on it but never got there. Got distracted by something else.
It's been in the back of my mind for nearly 30 years. Over the years I've had thoughts pop up like "Maybe I should see if I can get that goal". As I've gotten older I've pushed that idea away because with every year it seems further and further out of reach. NO WAY can a 50 plus year old dude like me do that many pull-ups in one set!
I finally decided to just commit and see what I can do. This video is only the beginning.
    Enjoy!
    Sincerely,
    JT "Jared Taylor"

28 is pretty impressive as it stands. I would enjoy a video sharing your pull-up training game plan . I’m a few years older and I can get to 12-13 strict. Would like to get to 20.
BTW I enjoy all of your content. Your focus on increasing your health span resonates with me. I wish I had this mindset in my younger years. Oh well, better late than never.🤙

Thanks! I appreciate it. 12-13 is really strong. Especially at out age. I'll work on a video breaking down my plan but until then one of the things that has helped has been doing higher volume of pull-ups in general. Several sets well short of max. For example one style of workout I've been doing is called EMOM. It stands for Every Minute On the Minute. This means doing a much smaller number of pull-ups each minute every minute.
Currently I am doing sets of 5. So I do 1 set of 5 then start my timer. At 47 seconds I do another set of 5. Rest until the timer reaches 1:47 and do another set. Rest. And do another set when the timer reaches 2:47. There is nothing special about "47 seconds" it's just the rhythm that I got myself into. The key is doing a set and resting for the rest of the minute and doing another one.
You are not waiting an entire minute to do another set just what every time you have left until the next minute comes up. The short rest is important though. I started with doing enough sets that when added up the total volume of pull-ups equaled 60. So my workout consisted of a total of 60 pull-ups. My last workout like that the total number of pull-ups was 175. I'm working on increasing the volume overall.
I your case it might look like sets of 2 or even 1. And do 1-2 pull-ups every minute on the minute until you have done 20 total pull-ups. Then see if you can eventually increase that number. The idea is getting "more reps" in total so your body can adapt to more volume in general. Over time you can add more sets or go to sets of 3 or more and continue.
A great workout would be to start with a max set. Do 12-13 total. Rest for 5-10 minutes then start your EMOM workout. That's what I do on my MAX test days. Other days it's EMOM only. Hope that gives you some idea of what I've been doing. Hope that helps.

Fair play, I've been training for years and do weighted pull ups on a regular basis and know you've worked hard there! try adding weight and progressive overload slowly , when you pull up on a fresh day with no weight you will fly up💪😎. Good luck keep at it, big pat on the back👍

Crazy impressive, there's a lot of young, strong rock climbers who can't do that many

Tendon pain sounds like golfer's elbow, common in this sort of exercise. You can look up prehab/rehab for it. I believe eccentric bicep curls are supposed to help

Unlike Marky Mark you did clean ones. A lot of them! Most people struggle to do a pull up not 50

Have you considered getting yourself a personal trainer? Maybe your expecting more from yourself than is possible or needed..😊

    • @JTJaredTaylor
      @JTJaredTaylor  5 місяців тому +1

Hey Sally, I hope you're doing awesome! Great question. Yes I've considered it. I actually have a personal trainer currently. She's helping me with mobility and stability training. I do everything else. I actually was a personal trainer for a very short time many years ago.
Expecting more from myself is the point. If it didn't seem impossible I would have less interest. I know it's weird but it's also fun. I want to see if I can do what is commonly thought impossible. More importantly it's my way of pushing back on "getting old". I don't want to just accept that I "can't" do something. And maybe I can't but it's fun for me to try.😊

@@JTJaredTaylor I agree with not accepting I can’t. So many people I know are in that phase! The mobility and stability are a big thing as we age. Keep up the good work..
