I have lathe cut records (some custom ordered, some purchased from bands) from 4 operations across the country. Yours from the live session series are by far the best. I've got nothing to gain from saying this, just have much love and respect for what you're doing. Keep it up
Your guys lathe is awesome, the automatic tablet and sound gap system is sick, I like how you integrated the modern software tech to control your lathe. Reminds me of a CNC machine how the record head auto drops.
Thanks for sharing this guys. Learned a lot of interesting things i didn't know. Are you cutting the live-recordings that we hear in your other videos?
+Lie Likes Music Yes!! We have been cutting and selling the sessions for about 6 months now! You can buy all of those sessions at LittleElephantLive.com. This is a new off shoot of the company to cut lathes for anyone.
That audio wavelength looked pretty "brickwalled" and "compressed"! But you know more about what you are doing than I do! Don't listen to me, I'm an Asshole sometimes!
Cheers for this. looking at releasing a few lathe cuts in the future. Wouldn't have known the different things to look out for, i'm in the UK, so of no use to you. I haven't yet watched all the way through the video, but is cutting this way much more expensive than the generic lathe cuts you mention, which are cut a different way? Do your prices differ from general 7"s, with all the extra effort made to make it sound better? Cheers!
For our sessions, we decided to keep everything on 12" LPs so that every record is the same. Many of our sessions would not fit on 10 inch, or 7 inch records, so to keep it all uniform, we decided to just do everything on 12 inch, no matter how long it was. Plus, on vinyl, the music sounds better the further away from the center it is. Does that all make sense?
It's not going to do anything of the sort unless you pushed the volume into the cutter head. The groove spacing is dictated by the feedscrew that moves the cutter head in towards the center
This is a good example of how the vinyl craze has gotten so ridiculous. Anyone who still thinks that vinyl is superior to digital, obviously hasn't heard a modern-day high-end transport/DAC system, watch will blow any vinyl out of the room every time.......And that's the truth.
To me its more fun to mix with vinyl. Plus there are many cool tunes that never got a digital release and most likely never will. Its fun hunting for new tunes in record stores all over the world that have who knows what stories behind them. And even if you are just listening back on a HiFi, its a completely different experience. Sound doesnt matter as much as the whole process of taking the disc and putting the needle on and listening to the full side in 1 go, most likely doing not much else other then look at the big printed artwork and soak the music up fully. You can slap a pad in a coffee machine and get a nice drink with 1 button push. Or you can take the time to manually brew one which will involve a lot more time and work, but most likely result in something way more enjoyable, despite it still just being a cup of tasty caffeine water. And some imperfections might end up turning into 'character' and 'charme'. Thats essentially all analog sound is about: finding the imperfections that suit your taste. Totally fine to persue the 'ultimate perfectly clean and flat' sound too. The genre of music makes quite a big difference too, in terms of what 'good sound' is. Some stuff just sounds wrong in too high fidelity. Too clean, too robotic...
Very poor work done on my project and no response from this guy. Not talking about a little surface noise, but major flaws that made them unplayable. Was embarrassed to give them to people
@rats arsed GO TO THE WEBSITE!!!!! You will see everything listed as a NORMAL SERVICE HE DOES 12” 10” & 7” all for no extra charge. All I was saying is I wish the 7” Records were a little cheaper.
@rats arsed I think your just looking for someone to talk to huh? Are you lonely? Do you often respond to comments that don’t need a response just so you have someone to talk to? There’s websites you can go to and rent a friend from. Maybe those sites have the special order your talking about.

Super cool! We just ordered from you guys and can’t wait to see and hear the finished product.
Very informative. I can’t wait to get my first vinyl record!
This is actually very interesting and cool. Thanks for sharing!
This is fascinating. I have a ton of respect for what you and LE do. Thanks for walking us through the process :)
Thank you!! Same goes to you!!

Thanks so much, Jeff!!
Love what you guys are doing. I can see this is more about passion than anything else.
thank you!!
Simple amazing.
Congratulations, your lathe is beautiful. ;)
This was an awesome video, great explanation and just really freakin cool watching how much work goes into vinyl :D

nice lathe!what model is it??

I need to do this
This is super cool. Why do you guys use a whole 12" though? Wouldn't it be cheaper and cost less to put it on a 7" since most of the sets are 3 songs?

However, for our custom lathe cuts, we can do any size the customer wants!
Beautiful machine my machine is the polar opposite of yours hehe great work!
13:30 I'm in tears.
Holy shit. This hurts my soul
@@lagroneglass7546 I hear it when I close my eyes. Really.
@@garretthaines9485 im confused, what exactly did you hear?
@@davida7229 At 13:30, what do you hear?
@@garretthaines9485 Some sort of squeak noise?
the space bar pusher 😂😂😂
Who manufactured your lathe?
I would have spaced out the grooves to the max, since it's such a short recording! Makes for a "hotter" louder cut, with more dynamic range!
It's not going to do anything of the sort unless you pushed the volume into the cutter head. The groove spacing is dictated by the feedscrew that moves the cutter head in towards the center
how much would you charge to build one of these to sell
I just got a test "pressing" and I'm super nervous.
But please tell me you don't touch the surface cut with your bare fingers as seen here at 3:20? Please? cotton gloves are cheap!
Do you accept analog source to cut from? Tape?

Whats the point of pressing a vinyl if it comes from a digital source
I'm not sure of exact numbers, but a giant percentage of records being manufactured today start as a digital source.

Can you please elaborate on this? I’m looking into working with them right now. What type of music? What makes the cuts unplayable?
You charge WAY TO MUCH. $50 for a 7inch record?
@rats arsed If you go to his website they sell 7" records for $50 each. its not a special order.
