FYI, Kanami has degrees in Economics and Marketing. The school MISA and Akane attended is The Tokyo School of Music. It's a vocational school the trains/educates musicians to work in the Japanese music industry. Saki's Mother is a gem dealer and has given gifts to all of them. She has also said that Saiki has changed since joining the band, She's warmer and friendlier. And Miku was a DJ for her High School radio station.
And when Miku said "it's a miracle, po" - she was not kidding. The music they have created over their ten year existence and the joy they have brought to all of us is a miracle, indeed.
Well you did learn that Miku is the reincarnation of a 810yr old pigeon. Ha (8), To (10), Hato (small pigeon). And she ends her sentences with "Po" from "Kuruppo" which is the sound kawai Japanese pigeons make.🤓
@@jeremydawkins8814 Haha. If you want to see my limited edition version of that book then i'm sure i can dig it out from somewhere....give me a couple of days.😉
if possible, 😅please write "kawaii" Japanese has five vowels😊 "a" "i" "u" "e" "o" these vowels are almost the same as in Spanish however, 😮Japanese used a lot of dipthongs "kawai" has a different meaning😅
The interview was before Saiki's vocal cord surgery. She still has the scratching in her voice. That disappeared afterwards. But fortunately she still has that unique laugh. She can laugh with her whole upper body and sounds like a super villain. 😈 It's fantastic!
The female interviewer is Nishiwaka Sayaka who is a founding member of 9nine, a successful pop idol group formed in 2006. They quickly went from 9 to 5 members and stabilized there for many years. 9nine is now down to two, with Sayaka having gone on hiatus recently. Her sister is Nishiwaka Ayaka, a founding member of the pop idol group Perfume in 2001.
I just looked her up and was surprised to find that she's younger than most of the members of Band-Maid (just a couple of weeks older than MISA, who's the second youngest).
Something I like about this interview is you can see "the other Miku" briefly. The other Miku is the one that went to her agency pitching the idea of an all female dressed in Maid costumes playing Rock music. Then went and did it successfully. The other Miku writes the lyrics, creates the maid costumes, is the producer (per MISA in an interview) and is a killer poker player. Here is another interview where they talk about touring overseas, very rare for Japanese bands at the time. ua-cam.com/video/SltjaoNBlbY/v-deo.html - I call it the pink suit guy interview.
Fun to watch your reaction to Band-Maid's Gold Rush interview. This was from 2016 so it was still somewhat early into their careers. Akane was termed the band leader back then, however this seems to be related to her organizational skills focusing on directing rehearsals and performances at the time. Later, they developed a close knit, democratic system where their individual contributions become very evident. It's amazing how efficient and cohesive they have all become which results in such incredibly good music. Seeing five good friends working together to turn out astonishingly good music while having a great time doing it is one of the many things that is so endearing about Band-Maid.
Some are saying this is where the name "barefoot assassin" came from. I keep trying to spread the story that the costumes are for their maid cafe where Miku and kanami are naturally the servers. Saiki is obviously the bad ass at the door who seats you, misa naturally is the bartender and akane is the cook in the kitchen. I will keep repeating it until it becomes lore.
When I finally got to meet them, each of the girls had this otherworldly, iconic beauty that left me moved to this day. There's something extraordinary about Kanami, Saiki, Miku, MISA and Akane that goes beyond their music. I don't know. Maybe it's their light... their presence... their incredible magnetism, quirkiness and seemingly innocence nature. Whatever it is, I hope they never lose it. I don't think they will because they're also genuine. Thx, MVJ!
Although they were still relatively new and at the start of their career. They had a pretty good idea what would work and what would keep them separate from the rest. As time has gone on they have relaxed their characters a bit and after ten years the facade has slipped and we now know these 'cute' women are highly skilled, very intelligent and very supportive of each other. But they all have a life outside of the band. Although we know nothing, thank goodness, outside of what they choose to show on social media.
Yes, Akane has a big appetite, but she is also a big girl by Japanese standards; around 5'6". BTW, MISA is around 5'8", Saiki, 5'4", Kanami, 5'1", and Miku is the smallest at right around 5'.
The other thing Band-Maid brings ......smiles. Check out some of their "Kawaii" and "Cute Moments" on UA-cam, it brings more of their off stage personalities out and are so much fun to watch....they're so nuts
The Ladies history is unique to themselves. And no problems with the pauses. You need to be able to take it all in. There are some other video interviews J-Melo is one. And another reason Akane was nominated as leader, according to a few people, is her family owned a large van and she had her drivers license. So Akane could drive them to their gigs and haul their gear. Plus as she said in the interview she was the most organized.
Kotoba is written 小鳩 in japanese. The first character means small and the second pigeon. So it literally means small pigeon. One of the complicated parts of Japanese is every character has at least 2 different pronunciations, the Chinese(Japanese uses Chinese writing system) and the Japanese. So the other pronunciation of 鳩 is hato. This is what she meant when she said small hato. Just explaining why she thinks she's a pigeon. Because her name literally means little pigeon, she thinks she's a pigeon.
If you don't know, kaiten sushi is where there are the chefs in the middle and seating at a bar that wraps around them. They have small plates which are color-coded by price, and they pass them around on a conveyor belt, so you take whatever plates you want as they go past. Each has two pieces of sushi (so Akane is saying she can eat 60 pieces, which is a lot, but I might could do it if I'm really hungry). When you're done, you hand in your plates, and they tally up your bill. I went to one of these a long time ago, either in NYC or London, I don't remember which, and it was a really cool experience.
This interview is so well known to maid fans and is a beautiful introduction to the band. Now that you know that Miku is a small pigeon and Akane is only half human- the other half is Gorilla, because she eats bananas during shows. There are only three and a half humans in this band. The real names of Miku Kobato and MISA are not generally known. Re the chanting in Real Existance- the Japanese say Wow, as in the west say Yeh. Great reaction. Thanks.
It's often thought that Miku's real name is Mika Naguchi. I was her name in her previous band Lil Cumin. Other names she has used are Himawari (Sunflower) - her stage name when she worked in the Maid Café in Akihabra. Hatoko is her Band-Maiko name and of course Cluppo her solo project name.
Also, there are a couple of things Miku says in explaining the origins of the band where later interviews have revealed that she had more help from others. She actually pitched the Band-Maid idea to a talent agency that she had been working with while pursuing an idol singer career, and it was they, not her, that found Kanami's audition video online and contacted her. Saiki had auditioned with the same agency, and when Band-Maid said they felt they needed a stronger lead singer, their agent was the one that invited Saiki to join. I believe she wasn't even allowed to meet Miku until the dress rehearsal for her first gig with them (where she also found out about the maid outfits), because the agent was afraid Miku would scare her off.
Yeah Saiki was already working for the same agency as Miku. Though Miku didn't attend Saiki's interview (so not to scare Saiki off) she watched it via camera - something Saiki only found out quite recently.
Take it all with a grain of salt. The interview is more PR friendly, then investigative. There are other interviews floating around that rounds out their personalities. They are interesting, and do seem to be good friends.
I agree however, this absolutely displays the on stage personas that they have chosen to run with. This was a while back and they are playing these bits up on every stage to this day.
TRIVIA: Host Sayaka Nishiwaki is the younger sister of megastar group, Perfume's, Ayaka Nishiwaki (A-chan). BTW, the interview videos of both BAND-MAID and SCANDAL are always entertaining and outright funny, because of the girl's personalities.
Just to let you know, after this interview Saiki had to have surgery to remove nodules from her vocal cords. That is why she sounded so hoarse and she probably didn't have a lot of energy. After the surgery, her voice for talking and singing were back to normal. Thank god!
