Watching this show is what brought atheist me to read The Gospel of Mathew. I have read the Bible every day since and am now a devout Christian.
Epic
So happy to read about your journey. I've had a similar awakening due to this show. I picked up the season 1 devotional which I'm really enjoying. I'm struggling as to which church to join. I'm also a little nervous about the bible. The old english it uses confuses me a bit. So I'm thinking of getting a modern english version. Is the Book of Matthew a good place to start ? Any advice you could give would really be helpful.
@@GloriousPanic the book of Matthew is 100% the place to start for a nee Christian. Read through the New testament in its completion. (I might hold off on revelation until you have read the old testament and have vastly raised your biblical knowledge.) so save the last book of the new testament for the very very final one you read
That's amazing! About 4 years ago I had a similar experience, I was actually reading the bible to rebuke the bible. I was that kind of atheist.
I found myself at first joking about it.
Later, my face was on the ground and I prayed Jesus is Lord and I am a wretched man who deserves NOTHING from Him.
From that day on I pray every morning, for God to stay with me, and not let me go astray again.
@@GloriousPanic Hi, you definitely shouldn't use the old english King James bible; there are plenty of modern translations. The Catholic NASB or RSV are the most popular modern translations. But I agree; the book of Matthew is my favorite and covers all of the bases. It is fleshed out and explained in more detail.
Jonathan has such a sweet face and kind eyes. He does a wonderful job portraying Jesus.
yes, I agree. He has such an expressive face.
Jonathan is a good actor and a very good man.
Yeah… and his face is warping to look more and more like HIM. Watch S4 and compare it to S1.
Best casting of Jesus ive ever seen 😊😊 he brings something so lovely and genuine to the character. The show was responsible for sealing my faith in Jesus. I came to full faith and trust in Jesus because of the show 🥰
Me too!
Praise God! That's amazing! Very happy for you.
I remember my first ever chosen video. Somehow he had a short hair cut, and I kept watching the videos of him with longer hair. Funny I know that's nothing concrete to go by, but I like Jonathan's humanity and i really like him(Jesus) ...never mind the hair.
Later I even installed the app, that I loved. My favourite disciple that I can relate to is Peter, I keep watching the video where he decides against his wife's wishes to follow Jesus. 🌸
@@sarahd3307 Actually, his wife was very positive about him following Jesus!
When Jonathan interacts with other characters as Jesus the compassion in his eyes cannot be faked. I know this as a former student actress. These things have to be internalized. He beautifully shows Jesus' love for us.
I love him on The Chosen and he’s Catholic!!! How awesome!!
It would be IMPOSSIBLE for me to love the casting of THE CHOSEN more than I do. GOD BLESS THE WHOLE PROJECT
i think most everyone had the same reaction as you, Matt, when they first heard about The Chosen. I also thought "Naaah, it's just going to be another hokey Christian show with cheap-looking sets."
Boy, was I so wrong. and when I saw Jonathan as Jesus for the first time, I was like, wow, finally an ethnic-looking Jesus!
now, I'm a hardcore fan of the show. it changed my life and reignited my faith.
God bless the cast and crew.
SAME I LOVE THE SHOW SM IM WATCHING A SECOND TIME RN 🤣
As a lifetime Catholic, I am so blown away by the Chosen. It has given me a window into life during Jesus' ministry. Now, when I read or hear a story from `the New Testament, I immediately can visualize the people and surroundings like I never did previously. I have watched all of the episodes at least 5 times and it seems like I see something new every time I watch an episode.
Honestly, I appreciate what the show is doing, but I just cannot get over the fact that they took the Gospels and made a sitcom style show out of it.
Please don't play the race card with Christ.
Ethnic lol. U could put him in a lineup with all the other hollywood jesus’ and the only difference is they stopped casting blue eyes decades ago… they’re still handsome white boys
This dude is a phenomenal actor. Not sure any one could play this roll as well as Jonathon has. When you’re as talented as he is, coupled with his humility in submission to the divine then you truly can move mountains
31:13
"I just try to clear out my own head, clear out my own spirit, and just open my heart in the scene, and try to be present with the person in front of me. Then the rest is whatever the spirit lets happen."
This sounds like a beautiful path to follow throughout life.
Jonathan is right - this cast is a beautiful family. That's what my husband said when he got to join them as an extra for a short time. He said not a single one of them has too much ego - they are all kind and professional and very loving toward each other.
There is an amazing transformation that occurs when Jonathan portrays Jesus. We all see the Divine help in that role - we all recognize it.
What delightful person is Jonathan. Look at the stuff behind him!
HERE is YaH’s Truth of Salvation
1. YaH is The Heavenly Father
2. YaH arrives via the Tent of Meeting
3. YaH was Who they Crucified for our sins
THAT’S IT. NOW, how simple is that and no ones “virgin daughter” is getting pregnant by their “god” (Genesis 6)
HalleluYAH “Praise ye YaH” and NONE BUT YaH
@@Praise___YaH I guess you reject Isaiah 7:14 as the words of the Holy Spirit through the prophet Isaiah? Seems you need to do a bit more research...
@@shadowlinks99
I’m Jewish and that is NOT what the HEBREW Book of Isaiah (THE ORIGINAL Book of Isaiah) says. I’ll give you BOTH Isaiah 9:6 AND Isaiah 7:14
Isaiah 9:6
Which reads:
For unto us a Lad is given, the government shall be upon his shoulder: and His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty One, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
“a Lad given” - NOT “a child born”
“Everlasting Father” - NOT the “son”
“The Mighty One” - that’s YaH
Isaiah 7:14
Which reads:
Therefore the YaH Himself shall give you a sign: behold, the young woman shall bring forth a young Lad, and shall call his name YaHoEl (YaH The Mighty One)
“a young woman”, NOT a “virgin”
“bring for a young Lad”, NOT “conceive”
AND BOTH refer to YaH The Heavenly Father, NOT some “son”
Praise YaH and NONE BUT YAH
@@Praise___YaH Clearly, you are learned of the letter of the law, but devoid of it's spirit.
2 CORINTHIANS 3:6
"Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life."
The young woman indeed brought forth a young Boy - the Virgin Mary brought forth the Messiah, Yehoshua, as was written in the scriptures of the New Testament - or do you reject the scriptures as the work of the Holy Spirit?
Indeed, unto us a Lad is given - the Messiah, Yehoshua. The government is indeed upon his shoulder: and His Name is indeed called [...] The Mighty One, The Everlasting Father, for he is the Son of the Trinity. The divine "Lad", as you call Him, is indeed the Son of the Living God, YHVH.
"While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him."
Circumcise your heart, and be no more stiff-necked. Are you a Jew, or are you a follower of the Christ, and therefore a believer in the Sacred Gospels?
@@shadowlinks99 amen. Still rejecting Him after 2000 years. 😭 How could it be ever possible? Not even the dead sea scrolls and Isaiah 53 can convince them😭😭😭. Praying for all the Hebrews to accept the Messiah has already come and He is about to come back.
As a fellow bearded long haired Catholic who also get's compared to Jesus at least several times a year, I may or may not have a big huge man crush on Jnathan Roumie.
I cannot imagine any actor playing Jesus better than Jonathan Roumie. He really did an amazing job. I'd say he is the best Jesus actor I've ever seen, even better than Jim Caviezel in The Passion of the Christ.
Jonathan is beautiful inside and out. Beautiful balance of strength, humility and gentleness!
Jonathan has so much grace. I don't believe anyone could do a better job in that role. He is so down-to-earth, relaxed and confident. He engages beautifully in interviews,
I think Johnathan looks the most like what I think Jesus looks like in his mannerisms and his over all look ☺️😊🙏🏼🕊️✝️
Yes, the scene with Jesus and Nicodemus on the roof, is by far, one of the most moving and very well done of all the episodes. Yet so many scenes are very well done and moving. Also, when Mary came back after leaving the camp because of disturbing events. Her return and the forgiveness shown to her, her tears, and embrace, all made me cry. Then Andrew crying over John the Baptizer, oh ! I have watched these episodes in both Seasons at least 20 times each and maybe more by now.
Which season is it and which episode? I mean with Mary Magdalene escaping and being forgiven. I started watching it on the app.
That is a wonderful testimony ! I have been a Christian for a long time, but The Chosen has made it more real somehow. It has led me to completely surrender all of my life to Jesus whereas before i sometimes thought i could "do life on my own" turning to God only during hard times or times of suffering. My prayer life and Christian walk are so much deeper now.
"I played a lot of Frenchmen, and the beard was working for Frenchies." LOL, laughing so so hard right now! Jonathan, that was VERY funny!
It is inspiring and touching to see someone playing Jesus who has been touched by the Holy Spirit and feels that this is not just work, but a mission to spread the Gospel.
Jonathan Roumie was a great choice for portraying Jesus. He looks very much like the Jesus from the Shroud of Turin. Amazing.
Jesus works through you Jonathan, so it is also you that has saved our lives and our souls!!!!
Fast forward to August 2023 and you are done filming Season 4❤
Please guest him again.
I love that Jonathan has a picture of the Merciful Jesus. I have one too. God bless you all.
Seems like such a nice man, great casting
I found the show to pull me out of deep, dark funk as well. It was the only thing that helped through a deep depression.
I love his sentient protrayal of our Lord...the most sensitive and humanlike communication of the person on film..from a PROTESTANT.
WHY WASN'T I SUBSCRIBED ALREADY?! Sorry about that Matt.
As a Brit, Johnathan’s ‘right then!’ In a British accent got me completely off guard 😂😂😂
I'm bawling here 3/4 of way through when he says his spirit rejects certain shows. I'm there and so many people don't understand. I loved his answer to that question.
I am obsessed with the show in the healthiest way possible, as I am returning back home to my faith, the timing of discovering the chosen, and the unforeseen massively impactful impression it is leaving deep within my soul is absolutely remarkable, and I really am without words. I was also raised Catholic and unfortunately lost my way many many many times during my life I never stopped believing, but I never felt it was possible to have such a beautiful relationship with Jesus Christ, and Jonathan’s portrayal opens the door to the reality that Jesus is not only our savior, but our best friend, our biggest fan and the one whom I desire to make most proud. This entire project is such a gift and I truly pray for each and everyone human being involved in cultivating this ….absolutely a gift from God.
Even Jonathan Roumie just being Jonathan Roumie telling his story about being at his lowest and submitting to God makes me tearful.
Maravilha! Jesus Cristo ontem hoje e sempre. Saúde e vida longa a Jonathan e todo elenco.
We couldn't ask for better Jesus' actor thanks Jonathan you are nice Jesus
Because Jonathan Roumie is hardly anything like Jesus, he says it himself that he’s so terribly flawed and people often get disappointed to meet him , I see now why it had to be Him playing Jesus because the Bible reminds that where mistakes abound where sin abounds Grace abounds all the way more ..It’s God way of using the lowly to confound the mighty..I love how modest He is , and clearly there’s such an anointing on this man .. God bless Him and the show 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
TV "Jesus" and movie "Jesus"
Both so talented. God bless them.
Is it just me? I love Jonathan Roumie 😍😅 God bless him!
He was definitely the perfect person to portray Jesus for this show🙌 also , hallow rocks my face off 😎
The Chosen is amazing 🤩 God bless
I Love You Jonathan!❤
You are absolutely amazing Jonathan
I am so sorry, you family has had so much loss. You and your family, are in our prayer🙏🙏🙏🙏 our pr
I just binge watched the Chosen this past week…what an amazing show!
The Chosen is one of the great surprises of the Holy Spirit on this weary old blue planet, There aren't adequate words to explain the affect that The Chosen has had on millions and millions of people,,,and one gets the sense that the Lord himself chose Jonathan Roumie to play this part, as well as Shamar Isaac and every single person involved in this amazing series,,it's like He just dropped in on all these peoples lives and said Come On,,,and they all said Yes,,,Just look what happened,,,,,on behalf of all of us who watch the Chosen,,,,we can't wait for Season 2,,,God Bless Jonathan and Shamar and Noah and Paras,,,all of them,,international stars almost overnight,,,,,and thank you Matt Fradd,,,if you weren't doing your show,,,you'd be great in such a series,,,,, and everytime Jonathan gives interviews,,,,up goes the amount of people watching,,,,
Really nice to see a devoted human doing his best to bring an important message to life 💚
Also, his T-shirt is brilliant 😆 I want one
Thanks Matt for guesting Jonathan. Binged watch the Chosen a year ago. Can't wait for season 2!
Can't wait for season 4!
Johnathan, you have encouraged me to speak more openly about belief. Thanks for your work, I love it.
Well I'm pretty mesmerized by Mr. Jonathan Roumie. He communicates so much through his eyes and the tone of his voice, its touching and exciting to see what is until now, imo, the best portrayal of Jesus. Jim Caviezel, as far as I remember, had also that tenderness in his eyes, but he was more distant than what we see in The Chosen. I am being pulled to search and try to understand more about the Catholic Church because of him and how he gives himself so freely to it + also because of the series. Still have a long way to go.
Beautiful chat and interaction, thanks for not pushing to keep a schedule or not interrupting him, that makes a wonderful "interview"/conversation. Cheers!
Jonathan plays the best Jesus ive ever seen. And im 72 years old
Jonathan's heart and spirit are so humble, honest. Thank you Jonathan for being transparent.
I was reluctant to watch the Chosen; was I pleasantly surprised.
I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The Chosen is the best “Jesus” movie I’ve ever seen. It’s changed my life and my son’s. Oh and By the way, I’m so happy you have a Zion’s mug!!!! I live in Utah, only 30 minutes from where you filmed. Come back, Jonathan, and come to Zions National Park! You won’t be disappointed! You should also come to the visitor center at temple square downtown Salt Lake City. Again, you won’t be disappointed! I can’t wait to see all seasons. ❤️🙏🏼
He seems like such a sweet man! May God bless him throughout the next season🙏💕
I think all the Cast and Crew in the Chosen are Awesome
Also from Australia. You are most welcome Jonathan! Hey Matt, thanks for this interview.
Saw Jonathan speak at the March for Life today and replayed it for the family. It was an AMAZING INSPIRED speech; just incredible. Can't wait to see The Chosen - Family is going to watch for the next few weeks daily to catch up.
I love the Hallow app. I love the Divine Mercy as well which I pray that everyday and the Holy Rosary and Padre Pio I have the prayer book from Italy when I went there. take care and may God Bless you always .
Anything with Jonathan Roumie is a plus. He is the beautiful result of opening to Jesus. He outshines everyone. God chose him to portray his Son for a reason. He is genuine. I am not fond of the bar sarcastic mode of this place. I guess you are trying to appeal to others like you. I love Jonathan because he is not afraid to be humble. We all need humility, me for sure too. 👍
what do you mean by bar sarcastic
Oops typo
Forgot what I meant!
No problem. It is all awesome! 👍🙏😊
Love that San Damiano Cross!
I love the way Jesus was teaching Nicodemus about being born again and what the kingdom of God is. I love it. Every movement, every word, every facial expression was perfect for me. I could watch that scene 100 times easy.
I like how this series is more relatable than other shows about Jesus and his Appostles
I love seeing Jonathan's face also.
This so great. I love to see collaborations among many of the Catholics that are seen on the internet. Love this. God bless Matt and Jonathan!
I visited the Blessed Sacrament and took a picture. Jesus appears in the Eucharist with his open arms and blood in the left side. When I take the Eucharist in my tongue I hear it broken in half. Jesus is alive
I ❤ Jonathan Roumie 😁
Jonathan is my beautiful Jesus ..l just love him..just one of God's amazing Creation..
Hello sweet Jonathan Roumie ❤❤❤❤. Della Warren here
I like to wonder what great merit [through the merit of Christ] Mr. Roumie has gained in heaven by playing Jesus Christ so well in the show! May God bless him. Lord, have mercy on us all!
I love how much Jonathan loves God and just warms my soul
Thank you so much for having Jonathan on! I’ve been obsessed with the chosen for the past 6 months. It deepened my faith and brought me closer to Christ. I especially love episode 3 for how Jonathan portrays Jesus lovingly and playfully interacting with children.
Hi Matt, can you please have Jonathan Roumie again and this time live in your studio, please 🙏
The Chosen is an awesome vehicle to evangelise Christ throughout the globe. What a beautiful and powerful antidote to a dismal culture of death.
He has quickly become my favorite version of the Messiah on screen. My favorite part of this back and forth is around the 45 minute mark, where he speaks about his Spirit rejecting bad things on television, and how his Spirit also Rejects the idea of taking an audition for a role in the same vein. And can you imagine how tragic it would be if the thing he decided to do after this was take up an acting career which featured tons of debauchery? Perhaps I only speak for myself, but it would leave a pretty significant stain in my mind.
Thanks Matt and Jonathan for this good interview 🙏🏻❣️I pray this will have an impact on peoples lives who are searching for Jesus’s values,, by watching you speaking to them humbly, simply as a poor man of 😮God🍀💕🕊🙌🏼
Nothing is accidental, Jonathan Roumy, as you know. Everything is planned by God for us to grow spiritually. When we surrender our life to Him, He takes charge of EVERYTHING… and the Holy Spirit is there to help us.
I enjoyed this interview so very much. It’s so obvious to me that you have grown tremendously in your spiritual life and have grown wiser… May God keep blessing you abundantly and use you for His purposes and His glory! 🙏✝️
The Chosen is so good, I loved that show
God bless you Matt
I love your accent and keep up your good work
Jonathan is simply wonderful
This show has brought my faith back to Jesus. It's totally changed my life.
Jesus I Trust in You. Started session 3. Brilliant series
There is no question that The Chosen production can touch and change the lost. It is the power of God to reach the soul. He draws the human being. This wonderful tool of film and great acting can satisfy so many people.
Jonathan embodies a perfect example of displaying living one’s faith with fear and trembling: he’s so respects what he’s doing and puts into proper perspective what he needs to, through prayer, and genuinely seeks humility, so as to (with our LORD as his helper) avoid the pitfalls of adulation that this world would seek to put upon him. May God continue to bless him and his efforts. Thank you for this interview 😇
Jonathan has his own UA-cam channel with many prayers offered and it’s just been wonderful praying with him
When Jonathan surrendered fully, God made him into an instrument of His peace. Wow! How blessed.
In this series, and very unique film, Jesus have never been portrayed as humours or funny before. It makes me laugh so much. Never in any other movie about Jesus and His life, did I see or hear the laughter. So it is very unique. I like it.
So thankful for both of you guys for working on God's kingdom on earth...may HIS blessings shower you
Just finished S4 of The Chosen ; such a beautiful show. I cry at every episode. There’s always one line that hits harder at my core. Even better, are the After-shows & Round-table conversations. So so good.. I bought so many gifts to support them.
Glad to hear from Jonathan and happy to hear he is Catholic! Great interview.
Go Matt! Invite more of awesome Catholics to your show. You really had wonderful guests recently, such as Fr. Goring, Fr Schmitz, and now Roumie. Thanks a lot. We need more spiritual meat, and true, devout Catholics who radiate the beauty of the Catholic faith to the world. Christians should be the light in these dark and crazy times, as Christ wanted them to be.
👏👏👏👏 Most enjoyable interview. I am looking forward to Season 2. I was in tears at the end of each episode when I watched Season 1. Very authentic.
ARE YOU FOR REAL? Matt, your content is 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 The Chosen is wonderful. Heard Jon while listening to a sleep story on hallow the other night!!
Hi Matt, I was half expecting Jonathan to say to you "Green is your colour, not too shabby" 😂.. Can you ask Jonathan as he mentioned his special connection to Blessed Mary.. "when will he visit Ireland".? Knock may strengthen his special connection. GB 🌈
Jonathon, I think it must be incredibly hard to have the biggest role ever, to portray authentically. I hold you, as the real man you are, in high regard for being able to handle the gravity of this responsibility so graciously. I am certain the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, are pleased with your work. Good job. And I truly hope that you read this comment.
The Chosen has brought Jesus and the apostles to life. Best show ever. Ive seen other movies that has tried. But The Chosen is top notch the best
Jesus being very good friends with John. Isn't that beautiful?
I love this show. Jonathan does avery good job of playing Jesus
You can tell he takes the responsibility of portraying Jesus seriously. I cry when I watch this show. It is truly anointed by God
Keep on doing a good job.
Jonathan-our parish was blessed to have a visiting priest from Puerto Rico who became a huge fan of The Chosen. He’s a solid orthodox Roman Catholic priest and a huge fan of the show. You play the part of Our Lord really really well!!!
Absolutely loved the chosen God bless you Jonathan
Could listen to Jonathan all day, not about Catholicism, but about JESUS. That's all that matters to ppl like me.
Catholicism=Jesus.......Jesus=Catholicism
Great interview. Anyone else pick up on the metaphor for Jonathan's trust in the show's creator to our trust in Divine Will? When asked if he's ever conflicted about creative decisions regarding how to tell a certain part of the story, he said, "You're not always thinking about the bigger picture, of what the overarching story is. He [the show's creator] knows what the story is from beginning to end; we don't. We get season by season and episode by episode, but he knows what the bigger picture is so I always have to defer to him and trust him."
