It was Avi's idea to open "Aha!" with "Christus Factus Est", a piece he had sung in college choir and that is a choir staple in general. There's even a video of him singing it with his college choir. And his solo there really showcases his opera training. As for the part where Mitch goes on all fours, the rumbling you hear is partially Shane Nicholls' phone not able to handle the frequency of Avi's voice without distorting, and, like someone mentioned, he blew out part of the venue speakers. They had that problem a lot with venues that didn't have adequate lows capabilities. I believe they ended up bringing some of their own speakers that could handle Avi, to supplement the venue's own.
Thats typically what Acapella groups with that bass capability do. I know Home Free brings in their own entire sound system (or at the very least subs) and patches into the existing PA
Also, that rumbling did sound like it could be a loose cone in the subs, as well as the phones distortion and amplifying the sounds of the blown subs. Not sure what it sounded like in person but shit, the Board Op must have freaked out... Although, It sounds stylistic enough that it could have been on purpose for this performance? Now im doubting myself
In case anyone wants to check out a 20 year old Avi in his college choir, here's the link to their "Christus Factus Est" I mentioned above - this is where he got the inspiration to start "Aha!" with the beginning of "Christus". You can't miss young Avi. He's the only one with dark shaggy hair and a beard, in the back row. He was majoring in Opera, but said goodbye to that when Ben Bram took notice of him and urged Scott to add him to PTX for The Sing Off, and he ended up saying hello to a whole new world. ua-cam.com/video/BIn-wM5sVM0/v-deo.html

Kevin was putting his cello away at the beginning of this song and came in as Avi started the song, the others moved up. The person filming didn’t zoom out far enough to show Kevin. I think maybe you should react to Pentatonix live at pop springs 2016, they did a few songs live in that one
So, here's why this video should be sub-titled "Kevin is There!" At the beginning, there is a big space between Kirstie and Mitch. In the prior song, Kevin was sitting there with his cello. He went offstage to put it away, and they start the choral piece. During Avi's bass solo, Mitch moved to center stage, Scott followed him and Kevin came onstage at the far right. Unfortunately, the person making this otherwise incredible video never backs up to show the whole stage after Mitch starts singing. But he is there, and all those insane beats and whooshes and rattles are Kevin!

I have been waiting SOOOOO long for you to react to this. When Mitch is going onto all fours the noise you hear is a mix between not being able to pick up Avi's low notes and they have blown out a part of the venues speakers which happens quite often. They have started to bring there own speakers for Avi because most couldn't pick it up. You should react to Problem and can't hold us both of which have rapping. I HIGHLY recommend seeing them in concert. I did in 2019, went with my sister and it was amazing. They do not disappoint. It helped that we saw them in Worcester Massachusetts. Matt went to school near there and Kevin went to Yale in CT (my home state). Plus their opening act was Rachel Platten, who is from the Boston area. It was great hearing them three talk about living and performing in the area when they were younger.
I was at that concert too! Rachel's mom was right by us in the pit and was the sweetest thing. I love that 2 years before that concert they were playing the same size outdoor venues as openers for Kelly Clarkson, fast forward 2 yrs and they were the headliners with their own opening acts. They are so so good live!
423catherine my sister and I weren’t anywhere near that close lol. We were way up in the stands but it was still great. My nephew was so jealous when we went. I had to take a bunch of videos for him.
I don't have something against live recordings at all, they're phantastic to showcase their 'actual' capabilities, but just for the sake of appreciating Kevin's incredible work in this song I recommend listening to the studio version of this😉

One of my biggest regrets PTX-wise is not seeing them live before he left the group. 😢 I totally enjoyed this reaction! Amazing! You absolutely do you have to buy a ticket if they ever come anywhere near you. I have been to see them three times and have never been disappointed. So worth the money! The last time I saw them was the first time with Matt and while it was different it was still awesome. You will not be sorry you took a chance to see them live. Good luck. Great reaction as always. You’re one of my favorite reactors to PTX. Keep on rocking on! 😊
100% get tickets when you can. You will be AMAZED. And I say this as someone who loves all the members extremely, and Mitch isn't even my most favorite, but if you ever get to see Mitch Grassi perform live in your lifetime you HAVE to do it. He has this amazing charisma and stage presence like nobody I've ever seen before, and that's a fact.
Kevin just had to put his cello up and he came back on. I couldn't believe a cell phone could pick up that kind of sound! amazing! Thanks for reacting!
You should totally react to Can't Sleep Love and The First Noel, Mitch is super impressive in the first one, and Avi awesomeness happens in the second one
Your reactions are the best but this one is priceless! I could not stop laughing and am right there with you. Avi is my all time fav too and he and Mitch singing together always blows my mind. I'm convinced this group could do anything. Matt is great and fits right in with the band but Avi holds a special place in my heart. Happy Holidays!
I'm pretty sure you already knew that you will NEED to see them in concert. As you seem to be discovering for yourself, they continuously make stunning music, and they do not disappoint live!
That moment when I see the notif and immediatly run to grab my headphones, knowing exactly what to expect from this reaction! xD Believe me, you'd never be ready for this even if you wanted...this performance is the ultimate "atomic bomb" ;D
Every time I watch these guys it's always "the Kaplan effect" and "Mitch face reaction" I miss Kaplan so much. I know exactly why he left the group, but I'm not telling. He was so good with the other four, but he is doing well now on his own I believe. I love Avi, his voice, his face, his eyes, his heart.
THAT WAS ROCK right there bruh! 😁😂🤣🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 I think i've watched this video of yours about (insert crazy numbers) times now, and your reactions to the notes that Avi & Mitch throw down on are insane. And I totally agree, how could that much sound come from a cell phone! OMG! I was using my hands to press my headphones into my skull and it was insane in the membrane! #MitchSlapped
You should check out their Sing Off Performances! Is was the acappella competition show they were on in 2011. See how they all started. It's live and you can fully appreciate how they come together as a group. You can find all the performances on UA-cam.
A I can do this really cool thing where he sings 2 notes at the same time and they end up sounding like 1. He demonstrates it at the beginning of one of their live shows. There’s a video online of it somewhere.
I've seen this live in 2016 and you wouldn't believe that they are better live. It is a full blown rock concert. Please if they start touring, or Avi touring..GO GO GO!
You should try telephone from the same concert. Mitch was on fire that night. Telephone was the first song they ever sang together as a group. It was their audition song for the sing off.
I was lucky enough to see them in Indianapolis . To answer the question...YES, they are as good in person. They produce a wall of sound and intense mercurial eddies of song that just embrace you . One of my all time favorite concerts.
Mine, too. And I saw Heart (Ann & Nancy Wilson & the original band) many times in the late 70s & early 80s!!! I used to party with them. So that is high praise! I just talked to Roger Fisher (Hearts orig. guitarist) the other day! But Ptx is in a league all by themselves.
When Mitch and Avi decide to to a high vs low battle and we ALL win!
Amen to that.
I can only imagine how much more awesome it would be if Avi hadn't blown that speaker.
Its all fun and games, until Avi blows out the sound system. Basso Profundo voices can wreck havoc on monitor speakers ... lol

Love all your reactions to ptx, thanks for sharing your journey with these amazing people, and I share your feelings when Avi hits those low notes - jaw dropping!! ❤️
Glad to see this one!! Can't wait to see your reactions to the new stuff they released!!
Mitch's range in this song is sick! AVI had killed a speaker with his super low note.
I’ve see them in concert! They don’t disappoint.
We have seen them in concert 5 times. Would blow your mind! Incredible!
Kevin just had to put his cello up and he came back on. I couldn't believe a cell phone could pick up that kind of sound! amazing! Thanks for reacting!
this is by far my favorite reaction to this video haha, still gets me shook every time!
Highly recommend seeing them live!!! They are even better in person. Seen them 3x!!!
You should totally react to Can't Sleep Love and The First Noel, Mitch is super impressive in the first one, and Avi awesomeness happens in the second one
I was actually there that day! It was amazing!
I’m so freaking happy you finally did this song!!
Jase.exe has stopped working! /giggle ...Your reaction was awesome!
Thank you so much for doing this!!!
I so love watching folk view this for the 1st time, you didn't disappoint. Thanks Jase, that was ssooo satisfying!😃
I’ve seen Pentatonix live twice! They are amazing live! You should definitely go!
Awesome as always with these guys.
That moment when I see the notif and immediatly run to grab my headphones, knowing exactly what to expect from this reaction! xD
Believe me, you'd never be ready for this even if you wanted...this performance is the ultimate "atomic bomb" ;D
They are SO DAMN GOOD LIVE. If you ever get a chance to see them you should.
If you ever get the chance to go to one of their concerts you will not be disappointed. Guaranteed!!
I second, third, fourth etc checking out the live Popspring vid.... this features and the sound is really clear.
You may be my favorite react-er to PTX!! Your emotions are a joy to watch and put a smile on my face every time!! ❤️
But a ticket!!! well worth it. Soooo good live.
A I can do this really cool thing where he sings 2 notes at the same time and they end up sounding like 1. He demonstrates it at the beginning of one of their live shows. There’s a video online of it somewhere.
YES!!! I love Aha!!.. I was hoping you would do this one
no matter how many times i watch it, it always gives me chills
Yes! You need to buy tickets! They are phenomenal live! Worth every penny.
Thank youuuuuu. Finally. I've been waiting. Your reaction to Avi's low notes!!!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽😆😆😆😆 (a.k.a. how we all feel) Mitch is a BEAST💜💜💜.
I’ve seen them twice and they are AHmazing!
Watching people react to this version of this song for the first time is my new hobby 😎
I've seen this live in 2016 and you wouldn't believe that they are better live. It is a full blown rock concert.
Please if they start touring, or Avi touring..GO GO GO!
This is my favorite video they have ever done. I love the reaction videos from this song!!!!
Your visceral reactions to Avi and Mitch are a joy to watch and just make me smile during the whole video!💜🥰
yes you absolutely need to go see them live - it's a lifetime experience
I've seen them live three times and they have been mind blowing each time
You should try telephone from the same concert. Mitch was on fire that night. Telephone was the first song they ever sang together as a group. It was their audition song for the sing off.
Ive seen them live....so worth it
This amazes everyone ! Thank you for reacting ! Do try PTX cover of Kiiara's GOLD, love it. They don't record anything that they can't do live.
I love his reactions! Welcome to the world of a cappella! 💜
FINALLY!! So glad that youre back reacting to PTX!
