Iggy’s story is not unheard of, my mom moved to the UK illegally years ago and used her friend’s identity to work and support herself. If you did more research, you would know Iggy said multiple times she lived with boyfriends and friends she met online for the majority of the time when she just moved her and it was actually those older friends/boyfriends that got her the hotel rooms. One of those people being Hefe Wine, her abusive ex boyfriend who recently did some type of “tell all interview” without naming her. Another being her friend Peezy, who makes appearances in Iggy’s early music videos and even gets a shout out in the third verse of Iggy’s “Work”.

I feel like only non-American people will truly understand her. As a British black person that loves American rap, I completely understand why she uses a fake accent. When you grow up listening to a certain way of preforming and articulation in music, when freestyling or making your own music, you definitely tend to mimic what you’ve consumed. I don’t think it’s someth she does on purpose to “cosplay black people”, I think that’s the only way she heard or liked rap music and she copied it.
It’s like when learning another language. I’ve known people who speak in very particular ways because they used TV shows to learn the language. This is especially true when the tv show is older.
Exactly. When learning a new way of enunciating words, we all start by emulating those sounds and mimicking the accents that we are exposed to. Iggy naturally adopted the southern black accent in her earlier years bc that was the type of music she studied, but she literally apologized and dropped the accent after 2015.
Yes! I remember girl said i was blackfishing because i said "crib" instead of "apartments"/// And i couldn't explain her that i was listening to American rap music since the day i was born, and that was the only way to learn English at the time
I’m from Australia and don’t believe Iggy was by herself in the US. You can’t live and travel underage without your parent’s permission. On the visa waiver your parents are responsible for you and you need a sponsor to work as a foreigner. Travelling every three months is a tourist visa. It’s very common for young Aussies to travel and most aren’t broke they have money.
Sometimes you get to do whatever you desired if you were “noticed” during that time period. Many powerful people had underaged children doing solo trips back then
Honestly, she was pretty much harmless, but people went way too deep into her fluffy pop rap music. Looking and searching way too deep into what she was doing. She never bothered me, and I wasn't even a fan. I don't think she deserved all the hate she got.
I'll always contend that she'd have been a million times more interesting if she leaned into being an Australian girl instead of trying to be a black man from the south
I think she could have more success with her Australian accent today, because people are a little more open minded now about what rap can sound like. Central Cee raps with his British accent and he's become pretty popular. I think America wasn't ready for a rapper without a black American accent in 2014. Also, white girls adopting black American mannerisms, speech patterns, fashion etc. was a huge trend at the time, ala Bhad Bhabie, Lil Tay, and Woah Vicky, so I think i think it benefitted her more than just being herself would have.
Not really, she only kinda sounded like she can rap because of the blaccent. Her Australian culture would've gotten her nowhere in hip hop so she decided to come to America and imitate black women to get a check. And central cee is not the first successful international rapper, btw.
Iggy is such a weird phenomenon. She has some really good songs one second and then next she pushes out the most generic, soulless sh_t ever. I feel like she's better suited as a singles artist because she's been unable to actually create a GOOD body of work. I will say though, her directing skills are impeccable. At least if she truly is the mastermind behind her music videos like she claims to be. The amount of references, easter eggs and details she packs into them and the stories she's telling are really cool.
I feel like if Iggy had stayed in Australia, worked on her career, and become popular there, she probably would have ended up being more respected as an artist. I think she would have eventually had a crossover moment and been seen as "That cool Australian rapper" rather than that "fake girl trying to be a rapper."
If digital distortion was released officially, I think a lot of those who despise her would have actually liked her a bit more. Its her best album to date IMO. so sad that her label did her dirty.
I guess I never questioned her story either but now none of it makes sense. A 16 year old immigrant wouldn’t be able to get an apartment. I don’t even think a 16 year old could get an apartment even if they’re a citizen. And in Miami? Even back when it would be expensive. There’s no way she’d be able to afford that off of money from a cleaning job.
You are correct. I’m from Australia, and if you’re underage going to the US you need a sponsor to work and adult to legalise your visa. I don’t believe she was by herself I think her parents were with her the whole time.
It's obvious she was here illegally and was an illegal immigrant. They just didn't want to say that part out loud. Wasn't there a rumor going around that she was married to a man in Texas that she was living with before she became famous? She probably found men to hook up with for a place to stay and possibly a green card/visa to remain in the country. Remember, she claims she moved here at 16, but she didn't become famous and wasn't getting work as a rapper until she was 21. So what work was she doing beforehand? Like what kind of work could a high school drop out be qualified for to get a visa to stay in America? So the illegal activity- at least one of them- she's alluding to has to be her illegal immigration to America. And 18-21 gives plenty of time prefame for her to have gotten married for a visa to stay as well. She probably also did sex work too. A lot of men in hip-hop love to sexually exploit young women. To get the sponsors she did when they didn't even like her raps implies they did it cause she was a white girl they were attracted to and got sexual favors from. Explains why she got her BBL to better sexually attract black men in the industry.
@@queenmoreau2098this makes the most sense. The fans are getting defensive and up in arms but this isn’t a diss at her. This is just the reality of it all. Not many men in the industry will help a beautiful young woman without getting something from it.
I feel like Iggys management team really did her wrong, I feel like they never established a brand for Iggy. We didn’t really know what to think of her as an artist or where she fit in. She makes really good songs one second and then really lack luster ones the next. Her artistry is very inconsistent but in a way it makes her intriguing which makes ppl like her including me.
Iggy has made, and continues to make, a lot of good music. She is inconsistent and also has a lot of duds, but she's never deserved the amount of hate she receives.
Iggy is a sweet person and a talented artist. I understand that some people don’t like her music, but she has a significant audience even now that she’s independent, and she wouldn’t achieve that, or the gigantic success she had in 2014, without talent. She doesn’t deserve the amount of hate she gets.
One of the main reasons Iggys career dropped was when Nicki Minaj singlehandedly started a hate train on stage on live TV when she was accepting an award. It was obvious shade towards Iggy and her Barbz ripped her to shreds until she was on the verge of suicide and from there everyone in the industry turned against her. It was very very sudden and sad to watch. She didn't deserve it. Which is why i always laugh when Nicki complains about a hate train when she basically successfully bullied Iggy out of a career.
I have been waiting for someone to say this. I'm not a die hard Iggy fan but that's why Nicki despises Cardi. She thought if she did the same thing it would ruin her but people actually love Cardi. Cardi is just self sabatoge at this point. So thank you for pointing it out.
Not true. First of all, she wasn't coming for Iggy in her speech, she was coming for safaree and everyone else who claimed she didn't write. Second, if anything Nicki herself also received a lot of hate at the time as people claimed Iggy was taking her spot. And third, MANY different artists came at Iggy at the time, ranging from Snoop Dogg, Eminem, J Cole, Azealia Banks, etc.
I agree. I remember that speech and it was mean spirited. I will always respect Nicki Minaj as an artist but she has proven time again that she doesn't like competition.
I should be ilegal how people treated her just because they thought she was not a good rapper but people are now supporting mediocre rappers like jack Harlow, ice spice , cardi b etc, she is underrated
I will never understand how people are FAWNING over Jack Harlow saying he's attractive etc, while hating on Iggy because shes a "white female in rap." Make it make sense.
@@Nina-ex5wd White male from Kentucky vs white female from Australia, ugh its the blatant sexism/xenophobia for me. I don't think Harlow is attractive at all, he gives me the ick. At least Iggy got them gorgeous looks.

they had a feud because he liked iggy first, but said she didnt produce the music her fans first knew her for (more pop like with story telling). then iggy replayed something mean on twitter to a retweet of honest’s video, though, i think she was just carried by the title of it which most likely was a little clicbait. then honest made a video insulting her and said he would never talk about her again, but here we have it!
Iggy’s very underrated. Despite what people may believe about her, I’ve always liked her & enjoyed her music even to this very day. She raps better than a lot of today’s women in rap & her visuals always EAT! She’s actually one of my all time favorite female rappers. Her, Nicki, Left Eye & Lil’ Kim. I actually seen Iggy live in concert last year, I was in the 2nd row & she ATE that stage up. Her stage presence was everything. She’s very humorous, real & poise. She’s improved a lot over the years compared to her earlier music. She’s definitely one of the greatest female rappers during her run. She’s actually the SECOND highest selling female rapper worldwide after Nicki Minaj. People need to stop sleeping on her & put some respect on her name. She’s always been unproblematic & put in the work. 💯
I never cared about her back story honestly, I just liked her style. Up to today. I feel sometimes she got highly over-hated and was overshadowed by Nicki’s gigantic fame at the time.
Hahahaah she probably sucked at the begging. But now the same ones who say she can’t rap are the ones who think saweetie and ice spice are top-tier rappers. I can’t🤣🤣
I always felt bad for Iggy, like I genuinely enjoy a lot of her music, she has a very unique style, and like you said she falls right in the middle between pop and rap, so whatever you wanna call that… shes the queen of that genre.
Iggy is talented idc what anyone says. She writes her own raps, directs her own mvs, and has one of the meanest flows in the female rap category. Yes she's made some mistakes in the past (what celebrity doesn't), but has apologized and owned up to them - she used to rap with a southern accent bc that was the type of music she was exposed to & studied growing up, but she dropped her "blaccent" post-2015 after the backlash. It's crazy to me how people say she's appropriating when so many other non-black artists are receiving accolades by doing exactly what Iggy has done, taking part in Black culture. By their logic Cardi B, Jack Harlow, and JungKook should all be cancelled lol. Keep the same energy.

I love Iggy. I don't care what anyone says. She is an independent artist who still pumps out really great songs with great visuals and sold out performances. She is one of my favorites.
She def worked hard to develop rapping abilities, even not being naturally gifted. Let’s not mention how many female and even male rappers/pop artists been copying her videos day after day. She is not respected, but definitely influential to a lot of the industry babies
Excuse me, but what contributions exactly? Bc Azealia Banks have been attacking black people her entire career and when beefing with white people she pulls the race card
You can’t deny her ability to write songs tho? I feel like over the years all your videos towards her are very biased. Like what was even the point of this video? You stated parts her life 10-15 years ago? It’s like you read a Wikipedia page on her and just added her music videos to you reading.
I think your message here is kinda bias - she was a really successful artist and had some great music that shaped the middle 2010’s. Saying she ‘wasn’t gifted’ is unfair
I don’t care, honestly, the woman has tenacity. Whether she had to practice her craft, find people to make her sound good, do things to survive, etc. She did it and kept going. I like her music and her. She will always have a fan in me 💚
lol you’ve been hating on Iggy ever since she made that tweet about you. I can’t wait for “Honest” aka “Bias, Fake, and Lame” to just jump and be done with UA-cam. This ain’t it hun
I never saw it for her. I don't like seeing white people or other people of different races doing an imitation of black American culture. It's an insult and it's cosplay. I would have had more respect for her had she just rapped in her genuine accent and didn't adopt this urban style.
Iggy was criticized a lot harder than other artist. Katy perry and Justin Bieber had the same appropriation scandals yet their careers didn’t take a big of a hit as hers did. Unpopular opinion a lot of it came from the fact she was White an immigrant and a female in HipHop of all places and the FIRST one no less.
@KrissyKayyy yeah White a Girl and a Foreigner that’s a triple whammy in the eyes of Hiphop a genre that’s predominantly run by Straight Black Men so she had to be very careful about the things she said and did. Having Cultural Appropriation scandals in a Genre predominantly run by victims of ACTUAL Racism was career suicide. Bhad Bhabie had the same issues I remember people saying she was just a disrespectful teenager yet you have Tay-K a rapper the exact same age shooting and killing two people and that was seen as okay for some dumbass reason🤦🏾♂️
I have no real opinion on Iggy. I don’t love her music but I don’t have any hate for her. Her rise to fame was weird, but I thought she was coming up as an internet phenomena. Then again we found out a lot of them were industry plants (ie Lana Del Rey who also consistently lied about herself). I do think she could’ve been bigger. Back then there weren’t a lot of women in rap and she stood out. But whatever I guess. She’s very irrelevant now and there’s no way she’d be able to last in a world with City Girls, Cardi, Megan, etc. It’s wild how much the industry changed in a little under 10 years Edit: I just found out she defended Tory Lanez. Nah fuck her lmao.
I actually liked Iggy. Camilla cabello is constantly defended and she had tons of items dealing with racism. I don’t think she was the most talented female rapper but I thought that she made decent music and she had great aesthetic and visuals that were her ideas.
Camila must be doing something right, because I still see her in all the tabloids and teenybop magazines, especially the j14-type ones. She's still loved despite the music not hitting (well actually idk if her music is bad or not charting, I haven't looked). There was a way bigger push for iggy to be thrown off her pedestal.
I will be honest with y’all…Iggy Azalea wasn’t a great rapper at all, so she was appealing to the young audience who knows nothing about hip hop. She only made music for club-bangers and stripclub music alike for the whole young generation. Her only downfall was turning on T.I. , so that was her choice. She had that fake accent in all of her music. I was never a fan of her music, so I have heard a little bit of her music and it’s terrible.
Indeed her rise to fame has details that we don't know still to this day. I loved Black Widow and I liked Fancy and Work. Team was a banger and Switch was a bop, it's sad to remember they flopped.
I love this channel because he has detailed descriptions on all things music. He knows what he's talking about Sonically too. Been watching it since day one. ❤😊
I always thought she had potential tbh. Every subsequent project, she seemed to get better. Even her fake accent started easing up towards the end and quite frankly, everyone (mainly her fans) wanted her to be more real and stop giving the same tired (fake) topics. Unfortunately, she never took initiative to branch out and ended up making her own bed in the end. It’s a shame, because if she had played her cards right from the start, I genuinely believe she could’ve been MUCH more than what she ended up becoming.
@@iggyisprincessofrapno that’s actually what happened. Not judging or anything of course, but I thought most people knew she had a sugar daddy. He tried to release her tapes and she legally fought for him not to.
Haven't we seen this all before, another Rapper backed with the usual PC software driven mundane repetitive basslines, beats and samples. Glam her up, present a fancy video and present a load of hype, then we have the latest Commercial Music star. If Cardi B can get attention, Iggy Azalea will do well.
Two very different scenarios. Cardi actually did have a rough come-up and didn't lie about her backstory. A true rags to riches background that Iggy does not have. Plus, say what you want about Cardi, but she is an unmistakable presence and personality. You can call Cardi a lot of things, but boring is not one of them, which is not the case for Iggy. Outside of the blaccent/bad tweet controversies, her music was really not interesting and *very* emblematic of the most dated aspects of early/mid-2010's pop-rap outside of a few decent cuts like Work. Cardi was able to sustain success and public interest for more than 6 months whereas Iggy could not
@@cityboy2092 Cardi B sure has presence and personality, but one thing I do notice she has zero musical talent. Her Rap lyrics sounds like from an angry teenager, there is barely musical key changes or note. Bassline, beat, samples from PC software. Cardi B is a good example of anti-music.
You mean give a white girl a blaccent and people will eat it up even though she can't rap and is taking up space from talented black female rappers who are actually apart of the culture.

This is a very interesting assessment of Iggy's career. The tone and implications of this piece is what I have most issue with. For starters, this take has a dark, shady undertone-without reason. The entire focus is on Iggy's career in the U.S., which is only one market. She is an international artist, so if you want to analyze her career, you must view it from that angle. Her decline was in the U.S., but she continued to thrive in international markets. Her sales and streams broke records in many markets and she is still one of the highest selling female rappers in the U.S. and internationally to date. I never heard any mention of any that in this think-piece. Despite her career missteps and being black balled in the U.S., Iggy really did well and made a name for herself in the world of entertainment. No, she couldn't rap in the beginning, but she sure used the tools acquired and evolved into a solid lyricist. Mind you, she just did a huge tour with Pitbull not long ago at all. All i'm saying is don't try to discredit a person and push negativity with all of those innuendos (I know what he was trying to get at, but was careful as libel will have you sitting in a court of law). Simply put, give credit where it is due. Iggy's streams are still high up there, if you actually go and do a little more research. That woman made plenty of money and I can imagine isn't hurting for a thing.

That did happen to me when learning English. I do switch from British to American depending on the situation, it’s 100% not on purpose
Yes! I remember girl said i was blackfishing because i said "crib" instead of "apartments"/// And i couldn't explain her that i was listening to American rap music since the day i was born, and that was the only way to learn English at the time
youre wild for saying what youre saying.
She's rich. She don't give af abt what people say!
.
Black man?? She's a women.
Her albums are great idk what your talking about. And yes iggy does have great music videos!

I feel like if Iggy had stayed in Australia, worked on her career, and become popular there, she probably would have ended up being more respected as an artist. I think she would have eventually had a crossover moment and been seen as "That cool Australian rapper" rather than that "fake girl trying to be a rapper."
Her rapping wasn’t the best but Ice spice literally exist😩
Iggy walked so ice could run all regarded.
If digital distortion was released officially, I think a lot of those who despise her would have actually liked her a bit more. Its her best album to date IMO. so sad that her label did her dirty.
yea that album was really alternative something new for being a rappers
I guess I never questioned her story either but now none of it makes sense. A 16 year old immigrant wouldn’t be able to get an apartment. I don’t even think a 16 year old could get an apartment even if they’re a citizen. And in Miami? Even back when it would be expensive. There’s no way she’d be able to afford that off of money from a cleaning job.
You are correct. I’m from Australia, and if you’re underage going to the US you need a sponsor to work and adult to legalise your visa. I don’t believe she was by herself I think her parents were with her the whole time.
I always just presumed people took her in, and it was probably a bad crowd.
You would be surprised as to what adult can do to underage children. Plus it's not uncommon to slip by with illegal housing if you know the right ppl.
@@Liam-xf5tv that part!

I agree!
Iggy has made, and continues to make, a lot of good music. She is inconsistent and also has a lot of duds, but she's never deserved the amount of hate she receives.
Girl hush… She was literally cosplaying a black woman and was a racist.
@@bebecap1970 go outside
She deserved that hate. She was going around saying racist and ignorant garbage for the fun of it and thought a BBL and a fake accent excused her.
@@queenmoreau2098 I don't think any of that happened, actually, lol
Finally somebody is speaking facts!!! The barbz like to rewrite history but we all know Nicki helped ruin iggys career.

I still to this day wish her song "Three Day Weekend" was released. I still go back and listen to the studio snippet time to time...
I wish she released it too.😭
I think Iggy is talented no matter what people say
@@Liam-xf5tv Facts. Not to mention Iggy and Nicki were the only 2 female rappers dominating the charts during the mid-2010's.
She WAS LITERALLY cultural smudging Azealia Banks contributions to hip hop at that time...
Excuse me, but what contributions exactly? Bc Azealia Banks have been attacking black people her entire career and when beefing with white people she pulls the race card
A blonde, white Australian using a blaccent was always cringe.
You can’t deny her ability to write songs tho? I feel like over the years all your videos towards her are very biased. Like what was even the point of this video? You stated parts her life 10-15 years ago? It’s like you read a Wikipedia page on her and just added her music videos to you reading.
I personally really love Iggy. Every album she makes is great and has great Rhythm/barss. Sometimes choppy, maybe I just have a soft spot for her.
I think your message here is kinda bias - she was a really successful artist and had some great music that shaped the middle 2010’s. Saying she ‘wasn’t gifted’ is unfair
She wasn't tho

That’s true. She was not right to go at him, but discrediting an artists’ merit and accusing them of prostitution is just mean
I never saw it for her. I don't like seeing white people or other people of different races doing an imitation of black American culture. It's an insult and it's cosplay. I would have had more respect for her had she just rapped in her genuine accent and didn't adopt this urban style.
I was just thinking about iggy earlier today then you go on ahead and made a video about her lol 😅
Bhad Bhabie had the same issues I remember people saying she was just a disrespectful teenager yet you have Tay-K a rapper the exact same age shooting and killing two people and that was seen as okay for some dumbass reason🤦🏾♂️
the truth is Iggy is so much better than most of our current female rappers yet gets unnecessary hate
It’s wild how much the industry changed in a little under 10 years
Edit: I just found out she defended Tory Lanez. Nah fuck her lmao.
I actually liked Iggy. Camilla cabello is constantly defended and she had tons of items dealing with racism. I don’t think she was the most talented female rapper but I thought that she made decent music and she had great aesthetic and visuals that were her ideas.
Idk where you are but Camilla Cabello does get called out. It’s just that no one cares.
I have been a fan of Iggy.
Are you still? Because I think her best music came after she went independent. Started, Lola etc.

Exactly. That fake hood accent did not do any favors for her. And she claimed she saw no problem with it
Indeed her rise to fame has details that we don't know still to this day. I loved Black Widow and I liked Fancy and Work. Team was a banger and Switch was a bop, it's sad to remember they flopped.
I left this video with what I came in with
I dont know how she got famous and I frankly dont care, her 2014 music slaps and she was a huge moment and name that year
I love this channel because he has detailed descriptions on all things music.
