I would love to get into my garden beds and start doing all the work to prep them further for spring, but they’re buried in snow. God’s telling me to relax, focus on my indoor projects and not rush the weather process. Today a faucet blew and I’m waiting on a plumber. I’m cleaning my box freezer and getting it ready for 2024 harvests since I’m almost at the bottom. 😊
My garden space is also covered in snow. We have more in the forecast. I am also slowing my steps, trying to learn God’s lessons in patience and trying to stay focused on completing my winter tasks.
Awww…I don’t know how y’all do it! I guess it’s sort of like suffer the summer heat for us. I just planted tomatoes, peppers, and beans so they can grow before they cook!
I agree Ms. Jessica. Just do the best you can when it comes to pruning roses. A couple of hints, leave 3 to 5 healthy canes and prune to outward facing buds. We strive for open centers to help with air flow to try and prevent diseases. God bless your new house.
Oh my goodness..I said "no Jess! Let the song keep playing !!"....God your so blessed to have such talented, humble, and set apart people near you..God bless you jess..
20 years ago I had about 30-40 Austin roses spread around my gardens--basically fancy, expensive, English roses that I put tons of thought into buying and planting--and I pruned them every year by taking a hedge trimmer to about 18" tall every year. Drove my neighbor 2 doors down NUTS how gorgeous they were every year, b/c he was a professional landscaper who trimmed all his roses with painstaking care, stem by stem, and his never looked half as nice as mine. Of course part of that was probably he was a miracle grow guy and I was all organic, but still--pruning roses absolutely doesn't have to be difficult, so good for you!
Love, love, love that song! As a fellow "Lover of the Land", I resonate. Beautiful voices, beautiful melody. Thank you for sharing your talented friend's art.
I love that you show people there is no perfect way to prune. I pruned my fruit trees the other day and I was super scared, but watching things I realized as long as I don't cut down the trunk, all is well 🤣
I love the song. He and his wife sing beautifully together. I mnss regularly singing in a choir and always wished i had more musically inclined friends or knew how to play the guitar. I learned a little bit in middle school but my parents couldn't afford to put me through lessons or buy me a guitar. Thank you for sharing this with us!
My first asparagus of the year broke through the ground on Tuesday! It is also the first year that I’m “allowed” to harvest it. When I noticed it, I audibly exclaimed “Happy Birthday, little guys!!” This evening, there was a chubby fairytale looking frog in my garlic bed. I bent down to tell him, “Don’t be scared little toadie. You are welcome here.” Jess, you have influenced me in the most fun ways!! Haha! I always love your videos! I look forward to listening to more of your friend’s music- so beautiful. 🌺🦩💕
Beautiful music thanks for sharing his talent with us! Love these videos where you taking around while you work. Helps scratch the garden itch while we are still deep in snow.
Good God's Day to you Jess.. And all friends here.. Love your sunshine.. Helps give me a smile here in Our dreary rainy days while I'm enjoying my Beulah Roasting Co Dark Roast Coffee and doing my chores!
You are gentler than I with my bush roses - mine get cut back to a few inches above the ground every so often. lol. Enjoyed the music - Michael is talented. I know another Michael Ball and interestingly they are both very similar...lol.
What an incredible song - it definitely made me emotional. Listening to great music definitely makes work you don't enjoy more bearable. And your encouragement makes it even better. You are a blessing!!! ❤
Ok so not garden related, but that song is so beautiful-so much so that my dog stopped chewing her bone next to me and was in a trance staring at the tv…(she is rarely distracted by anything on tv-maybe other dogs)so it was kind of moving…💕you are surrounded by such talented friends! I’m not surprised 😊 I do have a video of her-but can’t share it here☹️thanks for sharing!
FABULOUS SONG!!! I love it! It’s wonderful that you showcase other people’s gifts! You have a lot of talented friends! I pruned my parents rose bushes in Arizona one time…..I cut them wayyyyyy down! My mom cried when she saw them, but the next summer she sent me pictures and said they never bloomed like that before! Sometimes you just WIN by going by instinct! I want roses now…..you got me in the mood last year and I’m going to have to try them this year! Love you Jess! ❤❤❤
I have been hesitant about loading Spotify but I did so I could listen to the rest of the album. I absolutely love it! What an incredible musician! I have shared it with all my family! Love it! Thank you for the introduction. 🥰
I've always been the one that says I can do everything okay/well but nothing excellently. This runs the same path as your pruning! And while I've always strived to find something to do excellently I think I'm okay with doing things well! 😊
You’re such a giving person, you showed the love to your Aussie friend, letting her show us oat bars on your channel and your friend Micheal singing his song. You share your life’s goings on with us it’s like a new series for me to watch😊 I hope with your roses, yu will make some Rosewater, which I have a video of. It’s a nice skin to ear. Back in the day ppl used Rosewater in baking and a spot into tea. Not to mention rosehops full of vit C. You have teas now in you your cafe so think of the rose petals. Thanks for being your you and a lovely walkway. By the way perhaps you can go to a golf course see if they will sell you an old cart this way you can hop out to the estate and gardens quicker. My friend got one just for fixing it and taking it away it’s a thought
Pruning roses is easy, just remember to cut the branches growing into towards the centre of the plant and then trim the outer branches. With the clippings that aren't dead stick them in the ground or pot them to grow more rose bushes. Side note from experience I don't start roses from seed as they dont turn out the same as the mother plant. only by cuttings will you get the identical rose bush as the one you have.
Thank you for sharing Michael's music link 🎉. Those arbor roses where gorgeous😍Gotta see them on your place somewhere😍! Such beautiful work guys❤. JO JO IN VT 💞
Thanks for bringing us along! The roses & gardens will be so gorgeous with the beautiful stonework completed! Michael’s song is beautiful! Blessings 🤗🇨🇦
Jess, don't stress over pruning your roses. I learned to prune roses from my grandfather nearly 60 years ago. They are pretty much exactly like so many other plants you've taught us to care for: 1) they need good airflow, 2) they are more resilient than people give them credit for. Just try to keep the center open (think a vase shape) which usually means removing the puny, crossing stems and choosing to cut stems just above an outward facing bud. Other than that, keep them to a size and shape that works for you. And like any flowering plant, the more you remove the spent flowers, the more new flowers you will get. It's so exciting to see all the new growth just starting; I just discovered my asparagus spears starting to peep out.
To anybody wanting to prune roses “properly” I’d recommend Garden Answer. Her methods are absolutely fool proof and incredibly easy. Remember, your roses don’t care if you mess up. Roses do not care. They do what they want, without your permission!
It was a gorgeous day here today. I trimmed my fruit trees and raspberries, prepped a few beds and trimmed back the dead where perennials were starting to grow. I have a happy exhaustion tonight.❤
My garden is still a blank field. My garden fence still a pile of posts. My raised beds still in their boxes waiting to be put together. It is soooo slow to get anywhere . I love your garden--so pretty!
lol roses are so easy in the right climate. We have 10 bushes along our porch and we cut them all the way back every year and they’re almost 30 years old.
What a beautiful song. I always worry about pruning but normally just go for it. I am ready to get out and work. My poor Easter flowers were coming up, and last week we got about 13 inches of snow. My yard is still covered. 😢
Roses are the only flower I can keep alive for years , I pruned my down a lot then set my lawn mower blade to the highest setting & mowed them over lol every year they came back bigger & better & very full n beautiful,, with that said I'd never grew a plant a before had no idea what I was doing now I'm able to grow a decent beautiful veg garden " except onions" all I get is the onion skin ,so imhetting my dirt tested to see what I needto change & keep trying I'll get them to grow one of thees times ,, God bless Happy Homesteading
The first time I heard Michael was on IG with his wife singing Thimbles and Acorns. OH. MY. GOODNESS. I love that song and she has the most beautiful voice ever!!!! ❤❤
Loving the timing of this rose bush pruning! Just watched a pretty in depth tutorial that Laura from Garden Answer put out this morning (for anyone who wants to go a touch deeper than this one!); that, combined with your reassuring "just get in there it will grow back better with more flowers" is just in time for me to get out and prune mine today.
I'm 2024 goal was to live by the saying: Good, Best & Best. Sometimes good is ok and it's better than nothing. The same goes for my garden and you trimming your roses reminded me of that
Jess, I think this is one of the things that I love so very much about you! You let the rest of us know that even if we don't do everything just perfectly we can still grow things and do all right! It's so nice to be able to garden without the stress of trying to do everything perfectly 😊❤
Thank you so much, my dear friend for another great video and a video on pruning the roses. I am not a great gardener and I buy things that I like and you make it my gardener a tough plant. So I think that’s why my garden looks as good as it does because the ones don’t make it only the strong. Thanks so much for stopping by. Thanks for sharing. Love the video you always do a
Hey just rose pruning has 3 d’s to prune for sure! Dead, Damaged and Diseased! Cut other healthy canes just above a healthy Bud that is facing the direction you want the new branch to grow! Simple and easy! Can be painful so I would recommend gloves! Your garden is coming to life beautifully! Peace and blessings!
Perfect timing as always Jess. I bought two climbing rose bushes last year because you took the fear out of growing roses. I knew I needed to prune them and felt stuck Thanks for getting unstuck.
I was always afraid to cut my roses back too much. Then a friend showed me how to do it. Wow! I cut everything back so much that I was sure these super dead-looking woody branches would die. Not so! What grew back was much stronger and healthier. Food/fertilizer is also important.
One of my customers I help out every now and then in her gardens on my spare time has a Batchelors in horticulture as well as has been a member of the rose society for 35+ years has taught me a really easy way to prune roses to take the guess work out of it. Beautiful music.
Such a Beautiful way to wake up in the morning…. Beautiful Jess, garden and song birds in the wind🍃
Jess Garden Answer did a rose pruning video this am. She simplifies the process so even I could understand 😂
seeing baby seeds in such beautiful colored seed trays makes me so happy
Lover of the Land....oh my blessed mercy ❤❤❤❤❤❤ .. its on repeat.... beautiful!!
That song is absolutely beautiful!!!
Love, love, love that song! As a fellow "Lover of the Land", I resonate. Beautiful voices, beautiful melody. Thank you for sharing your talented friend's art.

I love the song

What a treat to hear Michael and his wife's music. So lovely as a backdrop to your garden 💗🎶
I agree, would love to hear more.
I love the song. He and his wife sing beautifully together. I mnss regularly singing in a choir and always wished i had more musically inclined friends or knew how to play the guitar. Beautiful song xxx
Beautiful song!🤩 Thanks for sharing the pruning info. As silly as it sounds, hearing someone give you permission actually helps. ❤
Enjoyed the singing and your video❤

Jess, you know I embrace your ruthlessness with roses! 😊 it is all your fault!
Those men work hard and love their craft. The stone walkway is going to be beautiful.....and keep down the mud. 🙂

Reminds me of “don’t let perfection be the enemy of good”
What a beautiful setup you have. No wonder you seem so happy all of the time.
I love your approach to roses. Have done the overall CHOP CHOP on roses for years, It is all good.
Thanks for bringing us along! The roses & gardens will be so gorgeous with the beautiful stonework completed! Michael’s song is beautiful! Blessings 🤗🇨🇦
Thank you for having a kind soul. I enjoy watching your life on the farm. I love what I'm seeing..wishing you much prosperity. Mote it be.
Loved the music and so relaxing pruning. I don’t know how to prune roses so this was a bonus!🙌🏻🙏🏻🌻❤️🌹

I resonated with that song. That was pleasant to the soul.
You must FEED your soul with beauty as well as your body with clean, nutritional foods. Ignore the negative. Bless you and yours. Thanks 4 sharing. 😊
I think that’s a perfect metaphor for life just do the best you can and it’ll probably turn out OK.❤🌻

lol roses are so easy in the right climate. We have 10 bushes along our porch and we cut them all the way back every year and they’re almost 30 years old.
My FIL (Corning, NY), used to cut them way back every fall and then put buckets over them before the snow flew. He kept amazing roses.
Absolutely beautiful song. Expressed how I’ve been feeling lately. Thank you for sharing 🤍

The rabbits "prune" back my rose bushes every winter down to the ground 😆Always put on a great bloom show with the new growth

I just adore Katie girl!
Thank you Jess, what a blessing to have both the beauty of song while you enjoy the beauty of the garden.
Everything looks amazing, Jess!!
The first year my husband pruned my roses, I was so mad at him because I thought he killed it. It came back more beautiful than before.
When you trim your roses you can start a new rose bush with the trimmings if you want more rose bushes
Such a good song!!!
Perfect timing as always Jess. I bought two climbing rose bushes last year because you took the fear out of growing roses. I knew I needed to prune them and felt stuck Thanks for getting unstuck.

One of the best books ive listened to lately was called "Oona Out of Order". Loved it so much and found hardback version today!
One of my customers I help out every now and then in her gardens on my spare time has a Batchelors in horticulture as well as has been a member of the rose society for 35+ years has taught me a really easy way to prune roses to take the guess work out of it.
Look for the 3 D's when pruning
Dead foliage and branches
Diseased foliage
Disoriented branches (branches that shoot off in a weird direction and go towards the middle of the plant)
Always cut at an angle right above a bud
