Just starting out after 10 year break, I’m running a 12 min mile on my second run 😂. My best 2 mile time in the army was 12:30, between all the miles we had to run for PT in the morning what really helped me was doing sprints , sprint the straights on the track and walk the curves, also was 30lbs lighter
I have a 10.7 mile uphill leg for a relay race coming up in March of 2024. Anyway to get a customized program? Wanna run it at a 7:00 minute pace. Ran the same leg at an 8:03 pace this past year. Hopefully can hit a sub 1:15. Never been the best hill runner.
Hey Erik. I don't have a 10.7 mile plan per se but I do have numerous custom 10-mile training plans that will set you up for success you can view here rundreamachieve.com/shop/?fwp_run_type=10-miles Good luck in this upcoming race and know you can hold sub 7 minute pace. Keep me updated on how it went.
Hey erik..you can check out our coaching services here courses.rundreamachieve.com/membership Keep up the superior work. You have dome big PRs coming your way.
I did say already that I'm trying to get a sub 1:45 for the half marathon. To properly negative split this race, what would a good time be at the 6.5 mile mark ? Thanks for everything
no faster than 53:30 through 6.5 miles then really start to focus on speeding up pace in those last 6.5 miles...hydrate well and take a gel at mile 7 and 10 if you can.
Hey coach! I’m getting ready to run the Philly marathon. I got hurt this spring and took a very conservative approach this time to make sure I’m healthy. I’ve been doing my long runs around 10 min pace and my shorter ones around 8-830 pace. This weekend I did 20 miles at 9:38 pace, it felt very comfortable. My question is, what pace should I target for my marathon? This is my first marathon so I know I should just be happy and enjoy it, but I’m just curious what’s the ideal pace to target
9:15-25 mile pace..I think based on your current fitness, once you taper and really rest going into this marathon you have the potential to run at or around these paces. Keep up the great work. Philly is a GREAT place to after a great time too. Have fun out there and good luck
Here in oregon we have 3000 m instead of 3200m. Any tips to get a sub 10 3K? My quickest 3000 so far is 11:13 but my 5k was 18:40 so I knew I can go quicker for the 3000
Outstanding job having already run 11:13 for the 3k and 18:40 for 5k. I think you are doing the right thing already..key now is to continue to spend some time training at or around 5:20 mile pace...i.e. repeat 200,300,400's. 1 tempo per week, 1 vo2 max workout and 1 long run each week. Alternate the paces of your long runs i.e. varied pace one weekend followed the next with a JOG long run. Adaptation and recovery are key so really pay attention to your recovery days. Get that tempo run lengthened out to around 4 miles...doubling this distance of your race distance will make that race distance feel that much easier. Hope this helps. You are well on your way to running well below 18 minutes for 5k and under 10 for 3k.
I always hit a wall after the first few laps.. i find it very hard to push past rhis without stopping and breathing.. how do i improve this? How do i increase speed/mileage safely?
Be patient with your training...get that long run out to around 10 to 12 miles, continue to develop your leg speed and don't try to win the 2 mile in the first 4 laps, negative split the race if you can. Continue to stay consistent with your mileage, the 2 mile distance WILL get easier for you in due time. Keep me posted on your progress.
Hey coach I’m currently running a 12:20 as a sophmore in highschool and I have a conference coming up this week do u think it’d be possible for me to run a 11:45 my mile pr is 5:25.
Hey Quinn, thanks for reaching out..yes it is doable..watch that first 1600m..no faster than 5:58-6:03 through that first mile then really focus on turning the screws in that last 4 laps..don't try to run 11:45 in that first mile. Good luck and keep up the superior work, that 5:25 mile shows you can do it.
For an athlete ending Fall cross country, wanting to get quicker sub eleven for track. Do suggest a specific amount of time off or continue to train with speed work?
I woud always take a week off completely after cross season before starting to train for indoor/outdoor track..some downtime is needed as so much of the year is spent training heavily. Hope that helps. Good luck in your quest for sub 11 and know you can do it.
Hi coach,I have a race in November for 2 mile! Can i shave off like 2 mins, im training like somewhat close to 2 months now! My current pr is about 15mins(not all out) and I know i don't have much time to train! My legs get tired easily and i run in grassy hilly terrain but my race will be in compact dirt roads(pebbles and some sand but hard surface)400m laps! Do i need to run in spikes for this track? Help!🥺
I would race in flats, NOT spikes especially on those surfaces. Remember, focus on what YOU can control and do your best ti disregard anything else. You are in great shape, don't try to win the race in the first 4 laps, let your competition go out too fast and then you pour it on in those last 3 laps especially. You are extremely fit, continue to remind yourself of that fact and stay relaxed..the best runners are and run because of it..follow what the best do. Good luck out there and know you are going to do great.
