What happened with the Ravenov skin is the year 2 mini update for Cold War, he was going to be one of the last bundles in the game. But due to the Russia Ukraine situation, he had to be removed from the game.
Cod2 had one of the most cut-filled campaigns ever. Going through the game's campaign files, in certain missions you find more unused lines than not. The Russian campaign got the worst of it, since almost ALL of the character stuff got cut. The American campaign also a Lt. character cut from the first mission. Both the British and American campaigns were supposed to have levels where you drive vehicles, but this was replaced with turret sections in the final product (armored car for the British, armored carrier for the US). It is actually shocking how much of the campaign was cut.
I always thought Invasion felt more like a COD4 map than the rest of MW2’s selection. It was very gritty and grounded in a way the rest of the maps weren’t.
Not a popular map per say but I still can't believe they didn't bring back the Berlin wall map from bo1 given the fact the game takes place during the cold war and that they already had the Berlin wall as a built asset in the campaign and that last zombies map. A staple of the Cold War and yet no multiplayer map for it, yet they bring back express from bo2 and don't even try and theme it to fit the 80s setting and keep it looking like its from 2025. The whole things just mind boggling to me like it just feels like such an obvious thing that they fumbled somehow

@@Battle_Boy26 stadium was wildly popular in its time. it's just that many didnt have the map packs back then. any players that didnt have the same maps wouldn't matchmake with each other. so that was an issue. but stadium was absolutely uniquely beloved. part of that is because, on paper? its one of the best designed maps in the whole series. stadium's design was such that anything could be viable on the map. you weren't at a disadvantage with any play style.

1:21:02 Correction: Boomjuice, DTPBoom and Pronaide (Which I'm 99 percent sure is supposed to be spelt 'Pronade' and the 'i' was just a typo) were all just WIP names for PhD Flopper, Richtofen saying "With this I can go down even quicker!" is most likely supposed him joking about the fact that the whole point of the perk is that it causes an explosion when you dive prone which when you think about it sounds like it would end with the user becoming a very large stain on the ground hence him talking about going down quicker, and plus a Zombies exclusive perk with the only effect being laying down on the dirty ass floor faster sounds (as you might expect) utterly pointless.
Always interesting to see what we missed out on. Here’s a few things I can add. WaW: Animations exist for zombies who walk on their hands after their legs are blown off instead of crawling. MW2: early version of spec ops mission Hunted exists in game files called co_hunted. It uses COD4 Marines as friendly AI. co_hunted instead of so_hunted means it predates the spec ops name. BO1: Zombies difficulty settings strings exist. Strings exist to enable and disable hellhounds. Disable and enable magic box. Strings for zombie challenges exist. It was planned to allow players to drop their points for other players. Basically all the customization in BO2 was planned in BO1. MW3: The MK12 SPR was not a leftover gun from MW2, but a weapon completely cut. I pulled the sounds from the game and recreated the gun in COD4 in 2015. COD2: A multiplayer mode similar to Breakthrough in Battlefield V existed. 1 team would defend a section of the map while the other defended. If the attacking team successfully took the sector, a new sector would activate and switch spawn points. Attacking team wins by capturing each sector. This mode and maps, along with the large team battle maps with drivable vehicles were cut when the decision to make COD2 an Xbox 360 launch title was made. There was a lot of cut multiplayer maps and campaign maps including a car chase mission in a Russian city that seemed pretty fleshed out. It’s been years since I looked through any of these games. There’s a lot more that I just don’t remember.
the psychedelic colors seen around 28:50 are actually colours of the world direction overlaid over the models, X is Red (1), Y is Blue(1) and Z is Green (1) -X, -Y and -Z are all technically -1 (black or in this case nothing, as there is no black colours overlaid)
One of the absolute most interesting cut pieces of content from mw2 was that there was literally a money system and rarity system mentioned in the code. Shit was wild.

In CoD4, I found an Apache helicopter under the map on the AC-130 mission. Didn't do any research on it, but that's the only time I was able to find any evidence of that type of helicopter in the game. Found 2 different texture files for it, too. A desert camo, and a traditional army green one.

Also, I swear back in the day I was no clipping around Nacht and found way out of bounds a few rows of modern looking soldiers and a couple vehicles just standing around in a small deserty looking area. It could've been another map but I'm pretty sure it was Nacht and I've never ever seen anyone bring it up or talk about it - and the soldier at 12:57 reminded me of them
The Blackout 2 map was repurposed into Fireteam Dirty Bomb, a large gamemode in BOCW's multiplayer and also Outbreak for Zombies. Also Outbreak wasn't unpopular at all as Treyarch themselves have said that 50% of the Zombies community actively played Outbreak and is their most popular Zombies game mode ever. Grief from BO2 Zombies and Gauntlets from BO4 Zombies and all those other gamemodes never were as successful as Outbreak

The map “cell block” featured 8:29 was actually a real map it was finally put into call of duty with minor tweaks and adjustments in modern warfare 2 remastered 2022 it was called “Al Bagra Fortress” and it was a multiplayer map and was also featured in the ranked playlist

Perhaps a reason why so much stuff was cut from Waw is due to it having a VERY hectic development. There’s a documentary out there I think by Ch0pper who talks about why this game should have failed but miraculously is now regarded as one of the best games in the franchise
Something that not many people comment on, but I very distinctly remember the first leaks of CoD Vanguard's campaign mentioning that the story was set in an alternate 1950's where WW2 never happened and would justify the super cursed weapon customization. We never got that, but I think about it often.

Ravenov actually was supposed to release with a zombies themed bundle, it was speculated that because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine they didn't want to release a cosmetic bundle with a Russian character at the time (they also removed the soviet flags from the map WMD for this reason supposedly) the bundle did come out but they replaced Ravenov with a different operator skin instead
2:24:22 IW didn't make anything in MW3. The zombies mode was done by treyarch. So technically they still haven't put zombies in their games 2:42:34 suppression rounds probably would've worked like the suppression system in Vanguard. If you were hit you would enter a suppressed state where you momentarily are slowed.
A little thought I made up for the round 6000 thing in Infinite Warfare is that rather than reaching round 6000 by normal means, there could instead have been a trigger that would change it to round 6000 regardless of what round you were on previously.

The reason they added those extra sections back into the FNG level is because they could, and it's a remaster, no mystery there guys they were just doing it solely for the fans.
I just love that such an influential mode like Zombies or creative spark that lead to a huge genre shift is always done by just some random dude working on a side project, then almost getting shitcanned and gets in trouble. Same thing happen with the ILM employee who experiment with 3-D models for CG Dinosaurs was warned not to work on it and was threatened to be fired. Then upper management saw it, loved it and the guy who threatened the employee suddenly loved how the side project changed the whole industry.
Modders did not restore any content from COD4. There's actual pre-alpha builds of the game you can find and play. All that "cut" content is in those builds.

Wish people talked about the PS3 versions of the games since that's where I played all my CoD games. Also the fact that the controls were different between the two until BO3
One thing that was missed in the video for Ghosts: this was a long time ago, so if my memory serves me right I think this was during the initial reveal of the game where there was a little snippet of gameplay that showed a UMP45 type weapon with a holographic sight on it. That weapon was never seen in the release of the game and we never saw it again after that. Who else remembers seeing this? One more thing for the level “Throttle” in AW, on any version of the game to my knowledge you could find the RPG as an easter egg, intentional or no. By using the grapple hook to reach the top of one of the buildings, you could actually equip the RPG. I believe the model and animations were reused MW3 assets, but I don’t remember it having any sound files. Alternatively once you reach the RPG, you could also breach the boundaries of the map and go exploring wherever you wanted as there weren’t any kill boxes Also, as shown in the vid @2:05:23, I guess that mission in IW was originally supposed to be set during a different time of day vs. the release build. The KBAR also appears to have a cut red dot sight on it that never appeared in the release version.
MW2 modded lobbies hold a lot of memories for me. I remember people hosting lobbies with those cute maps, like Gulag and Oil Rig with lobby images, and they always tried to scam. "As soon as someone gets me a code with 1600 Microsoft Points, I'll start it" Classic.
2:50:50 Neither of these are cut in the examples. The images just aren't shown because the loading screens show the first frame to the character intro cutscenes. Instead of seeing this pic of the fighting by the shore we get introduced to Alexandr Sokolov. And the same goes for the Sherman picture. The cutscene just starts with Sam Rivers.
For MW2 i would have loved to see an Arcadia MP map, and a funny thing about MW3 guns is that for whatever reason, Frost uses a MW2 USP45 as his sidearm, MW2 M9s can be used in ‘Goalpost’ and in Bag and Drag you can very rarely pick up a .44 magnum the only time in any MW campaign. Edit: i just noticed that the mission name ‘Operation Deadbolt’ was made into MW2023 as a war mission.

I cant remember if it was a joke, but i heard they considered making a COD roman warefare type historical setting. Part of me wishes they did that as a side project that had its own soul as a spin off where they went through different ancient historical events like the battle of thermopylae, and celts and stuff. It wouldnt be the thing people waited for, but it would be a fun side diversion for while we waited for the main games.
Reason why in world at war some of the prototype maps are so colourful is down to having no reflection probes as pc got the mapping tools and if you don’t put one in everything turns colourful
Instead of being in the chinook firing the grenade launcher, I bet the cobra mission was the first idea and instead of having to save the pilot, you would’ve had to escape from the wreckage and then find your way to an evac heli where the nuke cutscene would’ve happened
In WaW, all the cut weapons were British. They probably would’ve been part of the undercover missions as that would fall under SAS and SBS operations in theater.
The fact that they removed the KS-23 from BO1 (and that it never returned in any other title) bugs me to this day. They actually made both versions and then scrapped them. They're still in the files and, luckily, the zombie variant was restored in at least two mods (one for WaW and one for BO1). Unfortunately, I'm yet to see it in multiplayer (I kinda get it would be insanely OP, which is probably why nobody did it yet).
The end credits where you play as a German soldier, think what game has Allies and Axis pit against each other on the beach of Normandy. Invasion on WW2. We just witnessed cut content that was put in WW2 invasion mode, 6v6 with a limited number of respawns.
im guessing the odin battle officer would mean that you get to use odin and drop rods, aka the drone strike streak from the current game but instead of drones it would have been the rods

Perhaps a reason why so much stuff was cut from Waw is due to it having a VERY hectic development. There’s a documentary out there I think by Ch0pper who talks about why this game should have failed but miraculously is now regarded as one of the best games in the franchise
Something that not many people comment on, but I very distinctly remember the first leaks of CoD Vanguard's campaign mentioning that the story was set in an alternate 1950's where WW2 never happened and would justify the super cursed weapon customization. We never got that, but I think about it often.

Ravenov actually was supposed to release with a zombies themed bundle, it was speculated that because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine they didn't want to release a cosmetic bundle with a Russian character at the time (they also removed the soviet flags from the map WMD for this reason supposedly) the bundle did come out but they replaced Ravenov with a different operator skin instead

2:42:34 suppression rounds probably would've worked like the suppression system in Vanguard. If you were hit you would enter a suppressed state where you momentarily are slowed.

A little thought I made up for the round 6000 thing in Infinite Warfare is that rather than reaching round 6000 by normal means, there could instead have been a trigger that would change it to round 6000 regardless of what round you were on previously.

The reason they added those extra sections back into the FNG level is because they could, and it's a remaster, no mystery there guys they were just doing it solely for the fans.

I just love that such an influential mode like Zombies or creative spark that lead to a huge genre shift is always done by just some random dude working on a side project, then almost getting shitcanned and gets in trouble. Same thing happen with the ILM employee who experiment with 3-D models for CG Dinosaurs was warned not to work on it and was threatened to be fired. Then upper management saw it, loved it and the guy who threatened the employee suddenly loved how the side project changed the whole industry.
Modders did not restore any content from COD4. There's actual pre-alpha builds of the game you can find and play. All that "cut" content is in those builds.

I dont like linear games. Im "open world sanboxy" type of guy. But i hope there will be more linear classic fps because every taste must be full filled by developers. One thing that was missed in the video for Ghosts: this was a long time ago, so if my memory serves me right I think this was during the initial reveal of the game where there was a little snippet of gameplay that showed a UMP45 type weapon with a holographic sight on it. That weapon was never seen in the release of the game and we never saw it again after that. Who else remembers seeing this?
One more thing for the level “Throttle” in AW, on any version of the game to my knowledge you could find the RPG as an easter egg, intentional or no. By using the grapple hook to reach the top of one of the buildings, you could actually equip the RPG. I believe the model and animations were reused MW3 assets, but I don’t remember it having any sound files. Alternatively once you reach the RPG, you could also breach the boundaries of the map and go exploring wherever you wanted as there weren’t any kill boxes
Also, as shown in the vid @2:05:23, I guess that mission in IW was originally supposed to be set during a different time of day vs. the release build. The KBAR also appears to have a cut red dot sight on it that never appeared in the release version.

For MW2 i would have loved to see an Arcadia MP map, and a funny thing about MW3 guns is that for whatever reason, Frost uses a MW2 USP45 as his sidearm, MW2 M9s can be used in ‘Goalpost’ and in Bag and Drag you can very rarely pick up a .44 magnum the only time in any MW campaign.
Edit: i just noticed that the mission name ‘Operation Deadbolt’ was made into MW2023 as a war mission.

I cant remember if it was a joke, but i heard they considered making a COD roman warefare type historical setting. Part of me wishes they did that as a side project that had its own soul as a spin off where they went through different ancient historical events like the battle of thermopylae, and celts and stuff. It wouldnt be the thing people waited for, but it would be a fun side diversion for while we waited for the main games.
Reason why in world at war some of the prototype maps are so colourful is down to having no reflection probes as pc got the mapping tools and if you don’t put one in everything turns colourful
The Tag gamemode can work just give “IT” 5x health and call it Team against Goliath
Instead of being in the chinook firing the grenade launcher, I bet the cobra mission was the first idea and instead of having to save the pilot, you would’ve had to escape from the wreckage and then find your way to an evac heli where the nuke cutscene would’ve happened

In WaW, all the cut weapons were British. They probably would’ve been part of the undercover missions as that would fall under SAS and SBS operations in theater.

The fact that they removed the KS-23 from BO1 (and that it never returned in any other title) bugs me to this day. They actually made both versions and then scrapped them. They're still in the files and, luckily, the zombie variant was restored in at least two mods (one for WaW and one for BO1). Unfortunately, I'm yet to see it in multiplayer (I kinda get it would be insanely OP, which is probably why nobody did it yet).

also gotta point this out on PC for MWIII is task manager shows the exe as MWII.exe with the MWII logo. Its 100% a dlc.
The end credits where you play as a German soldier, think what game has Allies and Axis pit against each other on the beach of Normandy. Invasion on WW2. We just witnessed cut content that was put in WW2 invasion mode, 6v6 with a limited number of respawns.
