The greatest thing that has happened to Halo recently is the swap to Unreal Engine 5. Personally, I dislike the way to UE looks for Halo. Project Foundry looked poorly animated but that might be more related to the fact that they were trying to make things look nice instead of focusing on animations. The reason I do like it though is that they won't have to train developers on a unique engine where they waste a year of their two year contract trying to work out how everything works. Where the UE is essentially open to everywhere it is more easily accessible. In theory, it can mean a quicker turn around for games, as well as quicker fixes for issues within said games.
Not just that, the developers they brought in were all contractors and they would not have their contracts renewed because Microsoft didn't want to hire permanent employees
There are pros and cons to in-house engines. Generally for a game like Halo that doesn't stray too bravely into physics, open worlds, etc UE5 is probably fine. I was speaking with a client at work that was employed by the company that created Project Spark, which is another Microsoft studio. He was really proud of the work they contributed to Halo Infinite after the initial reveal was received so poorly, but he also told me that there was seven other Microsoft subsidiaries that were contributing to get Infinite over the finish linewith 343. So the idea that 343 alone was so responsible for Halo Infinite is insane. Maybe for a chunk of it, but all the heavy lifting was done by outsourced internal Microsoft studios.
I absolutely loved titanfall 2. Apex seemed like a cheap titanfall reskin to appeal to the fortnite crowd. They should've made titanfall 3 and had a battle royale game mode instead.

When you mentioned "From the Ground Up" with the Slipspace Engine, I was waiting for it to be a Segway into talking about the Forza Motorsport Reboot and the lies they kept pushing before the games release.
I get kinda tired of the Mass Effect 3 ending hate. It was EA that made them ship the game out 1 year earlier than planned. Try wrapping up each characters story (depending on who you’ve saved, killed, romanced, fought) through two games and then get told you’re getting a year taken away and try to wrap it up the best you can
I mean the Legendary Edition improved it, I personally like the ending where you control the reapers and sacrifice yourself for the galaxy. It really reminded me of the ending to The Matrix. Plus the whole thing with the genophage just totally redeemed it for me.
No, that's not the problem at all. The problem is that Mass Effect 1 set up a trilogy, Mass Effect 2 decided to throw that set up in the dumpster and go off on a side adventure with a minor faction in the first game while making no progress towards stopping the Reapers, and then with ME3 they had to write themselves out of a hole and somehow tie everything together. Despite all that, the campaign itself is pretty decent. Everything you did to repair the problems each species had in ME3 is what should've been done in ME2. Then 3 should've been an extended war with the Reapers where Shepard is involved on various fronts and uses a mcguffin that was set up in ME2 to beat back the Reapers. We should've learned more about them beyond human-reaper baby suicide mission against the collectors. Instead, BioWare focused on the personal stories of a wholly new cast of characters and completely ignored the overarching narrative they were building. It worked as a standalone product, but it also completely wrecked the IP to the point they'll probably never successfully recover it.
I'd honestly take any of the Mass Effect 3 endings over Andromeda, Anthem, and especially the new Dragon Age..We were complaing about ME3 and DA2 back in 2012 without actually realizing how good we had with Bioware compared to today..
In fairness to Frank O’Connor, it’s completely possible for him to have written the first draft or pitched the outline of Reach and then after that left Bungie to start 343 while they actually developed Reach. Like, because the story is done so early into a game, I don’t think him not being at Bungie when the game came out as proof that he couldn’t have been involved (Granted, it’s probably an exaggeration on his end but still)
He put in hours of work to make this video and all you had to say was something negative about something less than 2% of the video? This world is pathetic
You asked for optimistic people to comment, so I'll give it a shot: Halo can probably be saved with decent management. It'll never be a phenomenon like it was from 2002 to 2010, but it'll still have an audience. Halo: Infinite has a decent core. It was just let down by a complete dearth of features and content for an obscenely long time after launch, and that comes down to poor project management. You mentioned another studio developed MCC with the current 343 studio head just managing their work. That was effectively their biggest problem, at least with Infinite. All of the bad press and lack of community trust means they're less likely to push their luck with BS features and trend chasing in their next release, which means the biggest hurdle to clear is releasing a solid game that's content rich. This is an achieveable goal. All that said, Microsoft will almost certainly screw it up out of greed and the marketing will be guaranteed to be full of lies. But hey, there's some reason to be optimistic.
I had a couple of 360 RRoD but each of them lasted a few years each. At most, the only issue my 1st 360 had was struggling to read brand-new, unscratched discs. I remember trying to play Dead Rising and it often struggled to play it as I'd get some play time and then a disc read error closing the game.
No, we would not have been ok if BioWare went out and said, “Ok, guys, there’s three endings. Take it or leave it” because as you mentioned, they were all boring copy pastas.
This is a reminder that many of 343's lore and story issues stem from 343 letting Greg Bear write the background for the setting with little to no oversight from 343, as most of 343's management was focused on turning Halo into a multimedia blockbuster franchise. it wasn't until the 3rd book in Greg Bear's Trilogy was being written that any changes started to be requested by management (I'm guessing Frank O'Conner had to push that through despite 343's other managers.) 343 leadership and Microsoft wanted to have their cake and eat it too and only succeeded in falling face first on the cake and attracting redditors(Look at the halostory subreddit) to the Halo franchise that dickride 343 dogshit lore and writing. Despite the hate he got from the community, Frankie wasn't responsible for the issues that 343 Halo had. The issue was that either Microsoft executives or the rest of the 343 leadership members were incompetent.
4:16 Oddly enough I got lucky. A day 1 White Arcade with a 20Gb external that never got the red ring. Still have the puppy. She's starting to yellow, but she's still purdy. Such an oldie that when Destiny 1 came out, I had to purchase a 250Gb external upgrade, but I do still have my old 20 sitting in a box
Why would they even put the red lights in the console if they didnt expect this to happen? Imagine how much money they made from everyone who got lost in sea of voices and ended up buying 2-3 consoles completely out of pocket.
i still have a launch 360 that hasnt red ringed, and i ran that thing hard, multiday gaming sessions back then, online and powered on for days at a time, never had an overheat problem
Really disappointed by the researching on the payday 2 segment here, the micro transaction drama was during 2015, when they added lootboxes and weapon skins. The DLC model are considered normal at that point.
I member the red ring of death. My parents got me a used Master Chief edition 360 for my birthday. I plugged it in, and bam, red ring. I was crushed as a child. I wanted the green 360 sooo bad. I also member the disc scratches too. I had a few games ruined out of nowhere from it. I even bought a few games from GameStop WITH them because they used to keep the cases empty and had the disc's behind the counter.
the mass effect 3 ending wasn't even the original ending we where originally supposed to get the ending was so different before they changed it mid development thay change the ending because someone leaked it online the original ending
I don’t have a single bit of trust left for Halo Studios. I was growing more and more skeptical of 343i but my halo friends wanted to give it a shot. Halo 4, lost interest after a couple of weeks. Halo 5, just didn’t care for it anything about it. It felt like they released a big pile of compromise topped with a layer of excuses. With Infinite, I knew when the buggy beta was actually the final release and 343i was just happy to lie about it, I knew it was the same old 343. They can keep their early concept art UE5 stuff to themselves as far as I’m concerned. Build a game and I’ll take a look.
Tbf to bioware, you really couldn't do Mass Effect 3's ending any other way. The original ending got leaked, allegedly, and they had to slap together a new ending. Mass Effect 3 in general was also rushed pretty hard. The original writers also left Bioware so the people who wrote 1 and 2 were gone. It's important to remember that Mass Effect was like BG3 today where it was popular with non traditional RPG people, aka Troglodytes like me. Edit: So i think you also made a good point if Bioware was also honest about the ending too. This was still back in the 360 Era. You were still constrained by disk space back then
Wow i looved the ME Legendary edition, such a cool set of third person shooter games with an interesting story going through them all. First one might start as a bit of a slog

I definitely had the scratch problem happen to me back when I had DOA4 and Tekken 6. Couldn't play DOA at all and then with Tekken 6 I couldn't use specifically Bryan for some reason, everyone else was fine.
60$ is all it took me to keep my gen 1 360 working until i put it away when the xbox one came out. I bet my 360 will still run all because i got the external cooling fan attachment. Wasnt that expensive and kept it running.
My brother picked up and moved my 360 like a week after getting World at Wat and the 360 Made a god awful noise. I shut it off, opened the tray and omg the disc had a huge circular scratch. Could only play hardcore mode from that point on. No other mode would work. Single player would freeze. But yea, learned to not move a console with a disc in it after that point. This was in 08’ 😂
I also used to get the heat cracks around the little circle cut out on the disc from over use 🤔. Or that’s what I associated it with. Many call of duty discs had that happen too
My 360's disc drive failed to eject and read games twice. The second time I sent it in for repairs, they claimed that it was tampered with and violated the warranty. They were the only people who tampered with it. I explained that, but they denied the second repairs. That was just the beginning of the "tab" that Microsoft would begin to run up with me. They definitely owe me over a grand from there manufactured opulence horse s*-ery!
I wanted to show my uncle my MW2 Edition Xbox 360 I had JUST gotten for xmas and ruined my disc drive and my only game. I did this by rotating the console while the game was running... I was so sad lmao
I had one other system where I received the "circular barn rings" on the bottom of a disc, and that was with my copy of grand theft, auto auto vice city when it first came out for the PS2, but a friend tripping over the GD controller cord, causing the PlayStation 2 to do a complete front flip and land completely perfect flat, on the concrete floor, 2 feet beneath the table I had it sitting on!!!! It put burn rings all over the bottom of the disc..... the Xbox 360 would do this to a game if you looked at it wrong!
I'll bet the reason the Nintendo doesn't have a good relationship with Mihoyo. Seeing as everyone likes to compare Genshin to Zelda. Nintendo and their recent patent purchases they're using against Pocketpair. It's likely they see them as competition, whereas Mihoyo where blissfully confident it would eventually happen.
I had 4 different xbox 360s all died from red ring of death. I had 25 games destroyed and my dad was so strict about anything touching the xbox. This man instilled fear in my life we never touched the xbox without his permission: and we still lost 25 games from stupid scratches of the xbox 360. Explain why i have ps1 and ps2 games and gamecube games running perfectly fine but xbox 360 sucked so much early on it destroyed so many good games i loved
100% happened with the Wii my Marvel Ultimate Alliance disk was destroyed when it toppled over one day. It laid down ever since. But the 360 would do it alot even if it was sideways and got bumped
The 08 - 09 Xbox360 was the best model to have in terms of working on it, being able to take it apart quickly and put it back together quickly, as well as it had the upgraded computer chips that did not overheat!!! Still to this day, I am using my 2009 Xbox 360 "arcade" model !! it was the model that sold for a $199.99 and did not come with a hard drive!! it came with a built-in memory unit and you had to buy a hard drive separately, you had the best 360 on the block-
When I had halo 3 on my Xbox 360, my cat brushed up against the console and scratched the disk. I could still play, only a single level from the campaign was missing and I had already beaten that level by the time it happened. But I wasn’t able to ever play that level again. I had gotten that Xbox to replace my red ring Xbox that I had been making work until it eventually wouldn’t start anymore, I would wrap the red ring Xbox in many blankets and because of physics it would allow some of the heat to go into the blankets instead of staying in the console and it would run longer before overheating. Got a few extra months of use from it doing that. Fun times with the Xbox.
The xbox 360 actually killed gaming for me i got one for Christmas it broke due to the red ring of death i got another one and it died in the end i sold all my games that i paid hundreds of pounds for and stopped gaming basically until the quest 2 came out I just felt so cheated and will never touch another Xbox
7:55 no it didn't, there's a notorious video of someone grabbing a slim when they debut'd it to see if it would sratch discs and it did. It's hilarious. People just stopped blaming the console for something that was their fault.
Halo is dead. Pack it up, guys it's over. 343 only released MCC on PC for money, definitely not for the fans or because that would bring the rest of the franchise to a bigger audience. You guys should go be a Call of duty centric channel since that's the only thing you're good at covering and seem to care about.
I have my arcade model 360 that came with no hard drive, in my closet. no repairs needed but a rubber band lol still works tho just gotta give it a good spank to open the disc tray 🥰

Instead, BioWare focused on the personal stories of a wholly new cast of characters and completely ignored the overarching narrative they were building. It worked as a standalone product, but it also completely wrecked the IP to the point they'll probably never successfully recover it.
I like just throwing at the last second. Let the lessons learned allow the next cycle destroy the reapers properly.
Eh, early halos and fallouts had similar time crunch. The devs did fine. Not that hard to make something decent.
@@bldontmatter5319 you have no idea what you’re talking about and that’s okay
I had a disk get scratched, but mine’s probably a more extreme case. I definitely just knocked the whole ass console over from the upright position.
I'd honestly take any of the Mass Effect 3 endings over Andromeda, Anthem, and especially the new Dragon Age..We were complaing about ME3 and DA2 back in 2012 without actually realizing how good we had with Bioware compared to today..
You had better standards in 2012.
Always look forward to the next RocketSloth upload 😁
In fairness to Frank O’Connor, it’s completely possible for him to have written the first draft or pitched the outline of Reach and then after that left Bungie to start 343 while they actually developed Reach. Like, because the story is done so early into a game, I don’t think him not being at Bungie when the game came out as proof that he couldn’t have been involved
(Granted, it’s probably an exaggeration on his end but still)
Ew. AI sponsored slot. Blergh
I agree, given my experience it’s for incels so I think that’s why it’s popular enough to send these kind of ad reads to UA-camrs.
He put in hours of work to make this video and all you had to say was something negative about something less than 2% of the video? This world is pathetic
Gotta keep the lights on somehow
Maybe promote something that isnt garbage. @cornholio069
@toptiertech7291 this comment has zero idea what's it's like to be a content creator 😂
No mans sky, 2077, and fallout 76 are the holy trinity of false promises.
You asked for optimistic people to comment, so I'll give it a shot:
Halo can probably be saved with decent management.
343 industries not one of them made a good Halo...
No, we would not have been ok if BioWare went out and said, “Ok, guys, there’s three endings. Take it or leave it” because as you mentioned, they were all boring copy pastas.
Don't forget, you can throw at the last second ;)
When was the last time you’ve played cyberpunk? You can ride a train now and call your S/O to your apartment
Crazy thing is, I never had the red ring with two 360s just disc read errors with the disc drive unable to spin the disc

Oddly enough I got lucky.
Whoops, they forgot to put the green lights in
Why would they even put the red lights in the console if they didnt expect this to happen? Imagine how much money they made from everyone who got lost in sea of voices and ended up buying 2-3 consoles completely out of pocket.
MCC is fixed? gee I couldn't tell since every time I'm in the menu, it moans and groans about my region choice
i still have a launch 360 that hasnt red ringed, and i ran that thing hard, multiday gaming sessions back then, online and powered on for days at a time, never had an overheat problem
Really disappointed by the researching on the payday 2 segment here, the micro transaction drama was during 2015, when they added lootboxes and weapon skins. The DLC model are considered normal at that point.
Respawn working on a vr game is good for VR. I understand it really, really sucks for titanfall fans but vr as a gaming medium should not be ignored.
I experienced both the red ring and disc scratching. I feel so bad my parents bought me 3 Xbox 360s
Great stuff Rocket, thank you
Not even gonna lie these vids help me sleep so well. Thanks guys 🙏
My mom got with my step dad in 2007. I red ringed 2 360s and he couldn’t play halo anymore and he was pissed .
Sponsored by ai chatbot. Dead internet.
I'll forgive it this once because I like the content. Only 1 opinion shouldn't matter in the grand scheme of things for the channel anyway.
3:44 every single early Xbox 360 has red ringed. It's a 100 percent fail rate. My first one lasted thousands of hours.
AI ad read. I'm out.
Wdym??
@@bldontmatter5319 they did an ad read for Poly AI. I don't support people who shill for AI.
Ok..
@blizzard2100 they won't miss you. Sorry, you're stupid it's just a ad and not all ai something bad
You will be replaced. You are nobody and your skills are minimal and unimportant. You only fear the AI because it makes you realize how meaningless you, in particular, are.
Sucks to suck, huh OP?
We went through 5 or 6 360's when they first came out from red ring, and I only played on the weekends.
I definitely had the scratch problem happen to me back when I had DOA4 and Tekken 6. Couldn't play DOA at all and then with Tekken 6 I couldn't use specifically Bryan for some reason, everyone else was fine.
I had a later model of xbox360, and still got the red ring 4 years later. Amazing games and memories... Awful console and pricing schemes for online
60$ is all it took me to keep my gen 1 360 working until i put it away when the xbox one came out. I bet my 360 will still run all because i got the external cooling fan attachment. Wasnt that expensive and kept it running.
My brother picked up and moved my 360 like a week after getting World at Wat and the 360
Made a god awful noise.
Many call of duty discs had that happen too
40:30 it’s like the Disney frozen conspiracy lol
L ad
My 360's disc drive failed to eject and read games twice. The second time I sent it in for repairs, they claimed that it was tampered with and violated the warranty. They were the only people who tampered with it. I explained that, but they denied the second repairs. That was just the beginning of the "tab" that Microsoft would begin to run up with me. They definitely owe me over a grand from there manufactured opulence horse s*-ery!
11:29 just released the song in the backround you had playing was a jazz version of Life Will Change from Persona 5. Nice choice!
Gonna just skip over racing games entirely? Like we dont exist? And been lied to by developers???
I'll bet the reason the Nintendo doesn't have a good relationship with Mihoyo. Seeing as everyone likes to compare Genshin to Zelda. Nintendo and their recent patent purchases they're using against Pocketpair.
It's likely they see them as competition, whereas Mihoyo where blissfully confident it would eventually happen.
Respawn got a raw deal from ea with titanfall 2.
Halo on unreal would mean Epic games will make you wait for it to be on steam.
They should've namesdtheir engine shitspace coz that was all that Halo accounted for under 343i
Scratched 3 CDs with my 360 like that. Fun times.
How Microsoft didn't know about the ring of death? They literally installed the red lights specially for that?😂😂😂😂
30:34 Fun fact, Clover was responsible for Viewtiful Joe and Okami ❤
I red ringed 5 times. But at least they gave me another console every time with a free 48 hour Xbox live code each time
Great Video Lads!!!
Fun times with the Xbox.
wtf is this ad read bruh I’m unsubbing
Thats ok. Those with a room temperature IQ will be replaced by AI. Enjoy your time while it lasts, useless eater.
The video ends abruptly
I knocked my xbox over while playing Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. Forget a scratch, it put a WHOLE ring around my disk. I did get it fixed
I see that treadmill on the floor👀 I’m currently using mine while listening it’s great!
I had the red ring on 2 different consoles. I thought it was just like an urban legend or something til it happened to me 😂
7:55 no it didn't, there's a notorious video of someone grabbing a slim when they debut'd it to see if it would sratch discs and it did. It's hilarious. People just stopped blaming the console for something that was their fault.
My wii git ripped off the shelf by a gamecube controller and the disk was fine
Halo is dead. Pack it up, guys it's over. 343 only released MCC on PC for money, definitely not for the fans or because that would bring the rest of the franchise to a bigger audience. You guys should go be a Call of duty centric channel since that's the only thing you're good at covering and seem to care about.
AI ad...that really is disappointing, I'm not gonna support anything that's generative AI related or supportive of it
Not first. Rocket Sloth is awesome
I have my arcade model 360 that came with no hard drive, in my closet. no repairs needed but a rubber band lol still works tho just gotta give it a good spank to open the disc tray 🥰
I know you gotta make money, but please don't accept AI commissions guys.
