    What a great video, thank you. We've just bought a Talent after 6 years without a caravan. We learned very early on as caravaners that tinned and packet food was the best way to eat, always cooked from scratch at home but after our first caravan holiday peeling potatoes, carrots etc it was tinned food, boil in the bag rice etc unless we were in France when we could barbeque.

    Brilliant, brilliant, as usual, I knew my Trophy was good for the odd day trip, but you as usual have been an inspiration for overnight stays with my two Bichon dogs, though where I'm going to put them over night, without having a nasty and smelling awakening, is another matter!!!!

    This video poses a number of questions that require answers John:
    1. Who reads the instructions on a tin of soup?
    2. Where are your fresh fruit and veg? Tracey and I are really quite concerned about the quality of your diet. Far too many carbs IMHO!
    3. Secret ukulele player? When will we be treated to your first music video?
    4. Where’s your sink for washing up?
    5. When do you plan to lubricate your fiamma wind out canopy?
    6. Have considered towing the Jag behind to use whilst on site? 😂
    We’ve been caravan dragging for over 20 years and there was a period where it looked like I might end up working away from home during the week and I considered living our van for work. Glad that it never came to that, but it’s definitely a viable option as you’ve ably demonstrated. However, I have to agree with the other commentator who questioned your culinary skills (I know, everyone’s a critic).
    Cheers John and thanks for another interesting video. 👍

      Hi Gerard Hi Tracey.
      1. Me, ref your suspicions on my culinary skills😁
      2. There was Peas with my Burgers. Nearly a dozen of them.
      3. The quality of my Ukulele is not matched by my Skill😎 (Its a particularly expensive Ukulele😔)
      4. Opposite side to the cooker
      5. Yes I know, on my next trip. My 'Garage' cupboard will include some lubricant spray.
      6. You remember how Aston Martin linked up with Toyota to create the hideously expensive Signet. Jag need to link with Mazda to create an MX5 called the Jaglette. Then I will sign up for the A frame towing kit

    I have met a number of Contractor owners who use the Campervan as a mobile office. With good WiFi you can do most office work and other stuff. Also good for meetings as such.

      They are infectious Mark. The issue with the VW's is the Inverse to the XK8. They are priced way too high compared to their value. But the VW's have a personality that is different to the other vans, Easy to understand with the rear engined models, inexplicable but still there from T4 onwards.

      @@ToTheGarage Hi, John, me no understand your ref. to VWs being priced too high, compared to their value. I have had very bitter and costly experience with a Duetto, adapted by Autosleeper, in almost the same way as the TROPHY, but based on a Ford Transit. With a very large percentage of them of the same 1995 vintage as my Trophy, the Ford chassis are rust buckets and sold by unscrupulous dealers with fake or cobbled MOTs. What with chassis repairs and the huge loss in the resale, I lost over £8000. By comparison, the VW chassis are infinitely better, and anyway a motorhome cannot be compared value-wise, with a car, which is merely a means of getting from a to b - a motor(ised)home enables the driver, "to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no man has gone before", AND cook himself a good meal, when he gets there.

      @@1776leonardo Beautifully said Robert.
      Bear in mind when reading my comment that I have two and Had 3 VW campers😁.
      I genuinely believe them to be 'better' in many ways, but if it was just down to specs (top trumps style) then its very hard to explain the at least 20% price premium to folk who are not already (like us) 'infected'🤣

    Super, real, warts and all, video. Enjoyed it tremendously. Is there a 4th seat belt in the rear?

    • @ToTheGarage
      @ToTheGarage  2 роки тому +1

      On mine, yes there was (I located the pre existing shoulder height seat belt mounting behind the Auto sleeper interior trim and installed my own aditional lap and diagonal in the factory bolt holes.. However this belt was not part of the standard Autosleeper conversion

    Hi, I also have a Trophy. Have you had to replace the exhaust yet? I'm told that it's a bespoke part due to the chassis extension. TIA

    • @ToTheGarage
      @ToTheGarage  3 роки тому +1

      Yes I have Cameron
      ua-cam.com/video/PuPKpkTbt5o/v-deo.html
      Good point re the original. I asked the exhaust builders about it before the new one and they said they would be able to use their standard SWB T4 sports exhaust with the exception of the last section that would have to be bespoke. However, when they installed the pre-made front end parts they recognised that the system already fitted was modded at least two places already. One to avoid the spare wheel which apparently is located slightly differently to a standard T4 and a pipe was distorted to avoid getting too close to the corner of the plastic onboard water tank.
      So in the end they tweaked several of their 'standard uprated components' to achieve a good fit.
      I guess the shortest answer is that the Trophy has an extension before the last silencer, and a few extra dents and bends in an otherwise standard SWB system.
      I would have a system built on the van like mine. Its not much more expensive than a standard one (that wont fit without a lot of hammering and tweaking anyway
