Em pentatonic is a good one for this, it's got all of the Cmaj7 notes except the root and the Gmaj pentatonic notes as well. Noodle around and recontextualize minor pent licks you know, resolve up to c by hitting that minor 6th. Great way to get started with modal substitution

its actually G Dorian. That is how Trey would play it. Jerry would play G mixo.
Anyone liking G Mixo on this or is it just me? I guess if it’s a G>C progression, you could “flip” it and say it’s a 1-5 in C instead of a 1-4 in G.
Yeah, that works too. Whatever sounds good. That's one of the big reasons I like making tracks, so people can just try out ideas.
@@JeffWilliamsGuitar well, tbf, Gmixo is certainly how trey plays it once he starts soloing, wavering between Gpent, Ghex (throwing a C in every now and then), and Gmixo (playing an F in lieu of F#). tension and release. floating on the waves.
